No doubt you’d want to get back a good SS prospect for Vazquez. They may say otherwise, but I think you could get Alcides Escobar from Milwaukee as long as the race stays tight.

And as far as Wilson goes, he has less trade value than Frenchy right now. His UZR is not good and he has put up a sub .700 OPS for the last two seasons now. He also makes 7MM that the Pirates desperately want rid of. That’s why I think they’d trade both for Kotchman and a nobody prospect.

Since the Braves are not using Kris Medlen and Manny Acosta, they should send them both back to Gwinnett, so they don’t get “lit up” when they do pitch them. They are young arms that need to be pitching on a regular basis, not sitting in the bullpen waiting for something to happen.

Last nights game against the Cubs was a beauty and hopefully will be the catalyst to get the Braves turned around, because NOW IS THE TIME!!!

wayne in utahWhich contending teams need a closer or a strong set-up guy, and still have a bat they can deal?

the yankees need a setup guy, and have plenty of outfielders. nady is still on the DL, but could be back just before the all star break.

the yanks also have swisher, damon, and melky. once nady comes back, the yanks are good trade candidates.

no other contending teams that i can think of seem to match up to well with us…but the yanks have three guys i would consider getting, swisher, nady, and melky. (my interest in them would be in that order.

I don’t think the Braves will even consider Schafer’s struggles when deciding in Heyward. Heyward is a patient hitter who walks almost as much as he strikes out. He K’s a lot less than Schafer did in the minor league level. I much as I like Schafer, Heyward is in a different league as far as prospects go.

I do think Heyward’s a bit young still, but if he finishes the year strong in AA I would certainly give him a shot…couldn’t hurt (especially with the AAA club so close now- even if he started there and proved he was ready, which I think is the best idea- again, provided he has a strong season spent at least partially in AA). He’s only 19- no reason to rush the kid

Melky does not interest me at all. Maybe Swisher or Nady. Problem with Nady is the bum elbow, and the fact he is a Boras client.

How about the Angels??? They need a starter and a reliever. Brandon Wood is having a killer year here in SLC at AAA. Who could we use to interest them in sending us Wood and maybe Gary Matthews??? (how many more years does he have on his contract?)

Matthews scares me as a possible ‘roids user though.

Wayne,

Look at Andruw’s production compared to Frenchy and Garret Anderson.

Andruw, in 122 at bats, has 8 home runs, 19 rbi’s, and is slugging .516.

French, in 253 at bats, has 4 home runs, 30 rbi’s, and is slugging .340.

Garret Anderson, in 165 at bats, has 3 home runs, 24 rbi’s and is slugging .394.

I agree that Andruw’s best days are likely behind him. However, his numbers in limited playing time, are far superior to both of our corner outfielders. As much as his defensive skills may have eroded, he has to be better defensively than Garret Anderson.

What somone was last year or 3-4 years ago has no bearing on what they are right now. Infante or Prado may have only been decent utility guys in the past but this year they are performing well. It really makes no difference about a player’s past unless you are looking to pay them based on their past performance. Then you want a track record. You probably don’t replace a star even in an off year (production wise) but neither Prado or Infante have been asked to do that. If a guy is hitting .300 spot starting and my regular is hitting .229 it should be a no-brainer who should start. Thank God for Prado and Infante!

Wayne, to make a run this year I honestly think we’re better off keeping Soriano and Gonzo than Vazquez. What a luxury to not only have an outstanding lefty and righty 8th and 9th inning guy, but to have guys whose egos allow them to share both roles. You have to think that Lowe, Jurrjens, and Hanson can get you to the 7th most nights. Kawakami and Medlen may need an inning or two from Acosta, Bennett, etc.

The great teams can pretty well slam the door in the 8th and 9th. I’d rather not give that up. Hell, with the market like it is we may be able to keep them both for the same money they make now. Great move, IMO, if that happened.

We can only slam the door in the 8th and 9th if we’re in the lead in those innings. Braves apparently aren’t going to hit a bunch of HRs or score a lot of runs, but need to score with small ball, doing the little things to win, and not leaving a bunch of runners in scoring position. Come on guys, stop letting the Braves trick you into thinking they’re competing! They may be only 4 out but that’s not because they are playing well, it’s because the Phillies are struggling. I do think that the Braves have a decision to make on Gonzo and Soriano. They are auditioning both in the closer’s role right now, showing teams that both can close. Both are free agents after this season.

In my opinion, the Braves will decide who they want to sign, then trade the other. Look for a young, cheap, good MLB ready corner outfielder to come to Atlanta in return.

Trade NONE of the starting pitchers! Last year we were craving someone to give us 6+…this year we have plenty of guys doing it and we want to trade off Vazquez, who is having a stellar year, similar to Bobby’s praise when Wren pulled off the deal. How do we know Huddy comes back in July or August and returns to form so quickly?

After saying that, is Magglio an option for a trade? What type of package do you think it would take to get him? Is he someone worth taking a chance on, given his track record for hitting for power? This year he is off to a Frenchy pace, but he does have a history of hitting 20-30 homers and 100+ RBIS. Don’t know his contract situation and whether the Braves are able to swing a deal for him, but it seems like Detroit may be looking elsewhere in the future. Just a thought, don’t kill me.

Made damn sure that slider hung for Wohlers and sealed his fate.

Pleased to meet you — hope you guess my name.

But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game.

Signed a young Rodriguez when I saw he was primed for a change.

Irked the Sox and their followers; Theo Epstein screamed in vain.

When Atlanta reigned and the Yankees stank.

Pleased to meet you — hope you guess my name

Ah, what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game

I watched with glee while the team from Queens

Fought in vain to beat The Atlanta Braves.

I shouted out “Who killed the fiscal responsibility?”

When after all it was them and me.

Let me please introduce myself: I’m a man of wealth and waste.

Earning more than The Tampa Bay Rays

Pleased to meet you — hope you guess my name

But what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game

As the Ted is filled with Yankee fans (and none of them are saints)

The beer man shouldn’t serve them alcohol

’cause they’re in need of some restraint.

So if you go there, have some courtesy

Have some sympathy, and some taste.

Use all your Southern politesse

‘cause tonight Turner Field will be debased.

joe(shoyo wang),

I had us with a 10-0 homestand. I didn’t post it anywhere, but I don’t need to. I’m so positive about the Braves that I’m positive you’re a negative sack of crap. We don’t need fans like you hanging that albatross of an .800 winning percentage on us.

Personally I’m not big on Ordonez at this point. His power dropping off so badly is very suspiscious to me. I’m afraid he won’t get it back. Remember he was a guy that Canseco ‘fingered’ about PEDs. Also, Maggs has had a lot of knee injury issues.

Dye would be much more preferrable. His power has always been consistent.

At best, if a trade is even made to address RF, I suspect a mid level guy is the best we could hope for. Somebody along the lines of Cody Ross, Willingham, Juan Rivera, Marlon Bird, Nady, etc. Of course in my opinion just about any of those guys would be an improvement.

“FOLSON PRISON BLUES” is an awesome song. They play it at Tennessee Titans games in the 4th quarter when it’s down near nut cutting time.

Brandon O We got hope, Plus two nasty guys at the end of the pen.

Much like Cincinnati had in 1990 (Myers, Dibble and Charlton). Could Moylan become the 3rd?
