I just read the Power Rankings on espn.com. The Braves are ranked #20. I dont so much have a problem with the ranking, as I do with what was said in the comment section:
“Starters Javier Vazquez, Jair Jurrjens and Derek Lowe are a combined 1-7 in June as the Braves have lost 11 of their past 18 games.”
Although it doesnt come right out and say that our top 3 starters are at fault, it sure as hell implies it. The casual fan seeing that would think “damn, 1-7? that is really bad”.
However, sometimes stats can be misused to make a point that isnt valid. In the Month of June, here are their stats:
Now do those “combined” stats suggest that our top 3 starters “are to blame” for the Braves losing 11 of their past 18? ERA under 4….less hits than innings pitched…….over a 3-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
I cant resist saying this. Whoever voted to attribute those comments as reasons for the Braves struggles are, how do I say this……….MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11 errors for chipper already???? wow. i knew the guy was making some mistakes at third but wow! the throw could have been better but goodness that is a lot errors and its not even all-star break yet.
Where’s all the hate for Loaf and love and adoration for Chipper?” I can see it now after the game..”Well, Yunel’s throw was a bit high but I probably should have caught it. I’d put the blame on both of us..”
Poorjeff, they don’t announce attendance at Turner Field until almost the end of the game, for whatever reason (it’s earlier at most places). But there’s probably 45,000 here (place holds about 50,000)
I know it’s the first start of the year but he wasn’t fantastic last year either. Eventually he’ll have to do something positive as a professional to be a “top prospect.”
Because sometimes you can be much more effective when you are doing more then just throwing as hard as you can. Tommy doesn’t need to throw that hard to get guys out.
On the too soft high throw from Escobar to Chipper, Chipper did all he could. If he went up for the ball he is not going to tag the runner. He was in a position almost like a first baseman. I agree he should/could of made the play but the play stunk from the start. I also agree the silence of the announcers was deafening about the KJ debacle. If DOB commented on the play I missed it. Did Sutton say anything about KJ’s lack of hustle (he lost the ball but is taught to run from little league).
What’s Hanson’s Velocity? Must be a Yankee fan. Hanson is showing the big time Yankee’s that he’s a PITCHER. Not just a thrower and he’s a rookie. Go back to bed.

……………….Derek Lowe…Javier Vazquez….Jair Jurrjens
ERA…………..(5.96)…………….(2.20)……………(3.80)
Innings………..23…………………..29…………………21
Hits……………..27………………….19…………………23
Walks……………7…………………..4…………………..8
Runs allowed..15…………………..7…………………..9
Strikeouts…….10………………….31…………………22
Record………..1-2………………..1-2………………..0-3
Now Lowe has struggled some, however the if you look at the stats of Jurrgens and especially Vazquez, you cant say that they have “struggled”.
Even so, since the comment section lumped all 3 together, I’ll combine all 3 to see if indeed the combined stats suggest “struggling”:
……………..Lowe, Jurrjens, & Vazquez combined stats…..
ERA…………………………..(3.90)
Innings pitched……………….73
Hits……………………………….69
Runs allowed………………….31
Walks……………………………19
Strikeouts……………………..63
Record………………………..2-7
Now do those “combined” stats suggest that our top 3 starters “are to blame” for the Braves losing 11 of their past 18? ERA under 4….less hits than innings pitched…….over a 3-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
I cant resist saying this. Whoever voted to attribute those comments as reasons for the Braves struggles are, how do I say this……….MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job, TH getting out of a jam not of his making.
Even though Escobar babbled that last ball, he stuck with it and got the out at second.
