shadetree, way too much negative here, and I can be to a point. But, I know where you’re coming from on that and on Javy. He needs run support but like you said, Glavine had his one bad inning so he needed the same and he’s a HOF. I’d really hate to see Javy traded which is why I cringe when I remember how much they gave Kawakami. If they had not, could’ve put MEdlen/Hanson in that spot and had enough to get a bat without trading Javy…maybe that can still happen. Games startin

Lars Taint……….a couple of weeks ago, the Rangers were ahead of the Angels by 5 games. Today they are ahead by 1/2 a game. The Rangers just got swept by the Giants. Other than Kevin Millwood, none of their other starters are CONSISTENTLY giving them quality innings. The Angels got healthy and you know that they will be active before the trade deadline.
The Rangers cannot compete with the Angels if they do not improve their starting rotation. That is a FACT. If the Rangers do nothing, the Angels are going to run away with the division. That is why I proposed the Vazquez trade. I also said that other pieces could be included to make the trade work.

I feel horrible for Martin Prado. He has done everything asked of him including playing hurt. Why does Bobby Cox look at him as a bench player. Give him an extended look as the everyday second base job. I guess Bobby Cox see’s something in Kelly Johnson that I am missing.

For the teams in the playoff hunt the Yankees and Red Sox don’t need starting pitching. Tampa is desperate for a closer but can’t add payroll. I wonder if the would be willing to give up Ben Zobrist or Wade Davis for One of our closers. The Tigers need pitching and a bat but don’t really have any top prospects.

Frankly, I love that kind of stuff. Our old buddy Robert (not the donk Robert, the other guy) used to make some truly outrageous, 5-team-12-player-other-dimension-stuff posts on trades, and I liked reading them. Truly.
I know some of these folks are actually, well, serious, but I forgive them that. The joy is in the reading and chortling, regardless of the reasoning behind the origination.

rob from sc, you act as though JS shouldn’t be held responsible for taking part in that trade (Tex)? Why and how did the Rangers “f***” us. They asked for players and JS gave them to him.
Where, this past winter, when Towers asked for Heyward, Hanson or any of the other top prospects for Peavy, Wren said no. Should we be mad at SD for trying to f*** us? LOL!
Kudos to the Texas GM. He had a “chip” and he maximized it.

Hicks MIGHT make a trade…but I wouldn’t bet a dime on it…especially cutting 10% of the administrative staff due to unexpected losses so far….They have some marketable pieces, but I think you are more likely to see them go after a young pitcher like Juurjens and give up bats that way…Not saying we trade JJ, just saying that is a more likely route for the Rangers to improve their pitching

I’m not quite sure why you don’t get it, but I am going to try one more time. No team is going to trade a PROVEN player making the league minimum for an aging player making $11.5 million. It doesn’t happen and you can’t give me one example of it happening. I’m not talking about trading prospects, I’m talking about proven, really good players. Players that are currently helping their team. Not unless they are getting a GREAT player in return,

“It might be easier if Johnny would have something to say about the Braves mixed in with his comments.”
Carroll, if you know anything about Johnny Miller, you would know that he is known for his unfiltered thoughts and comments.
Miller’s comments on the Braves might go something like this: “The Braves are losers playing with a losers attitude. How can Bobby Cox be absolved of all blame for this train wreck? If you are going to take the credit for the good times you must be accountable for the bad times. And what’s up with the hitting on this team? They look like a bunch of little leaguers. And above all, I hate to accuse someone of choking, but if the shoe fits!”
Now anyone who knows anything about Johnny Miller’s rep as calling them like he sees them without worrying about ruffling feathers, knows that what I wrote above about what his hypothetical comment on the Braves might be, is pretty accurate.
Don’t wish for Miller’s comment unless you want to hear his views, warts and all! lol

Jason Bay Was Nearly A Brave

We know that the Braves and Rays almost acquired Jason Bay from the Pirates at last year’s trade deadline. Rob Bradford of WEEI.com has some specifics on who the Pirates would have received in return and just how close the Braves came to completing the deal:
* The Braves would have sent Concepcion Rodriguez, Brent Lillibridge, Brandon Jones and Jeff Locke to the Pirates.
* Interestingly, Locke was eventually dealt to the Pirates for another All-Star outfielder, Nate McLouth.
* The Braves actually had Bay’s name sewed onto a jersey. I wonder who has it now…
* Pirates president Frank Coonelly called the deal off since he wanted more major league talent in return.
* Bay had no idea that he came so close to becoming a Brave and said he’s happy to be in Boston.

Lars Taint………In mid-June of 1983…..the St. Louis Cardinals traded Keith Hernandez to the New York Mets for Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey. The Cards had won the World Series in the previous year and needed to shore up their starting pitching. So they traded Keith Hernandez, who was in his 10th year and making good money (I’m not sure how much, but I can assure you that it was a lot more than what Neil Allen and Rick Ownbey were making). The Mets needed offense so they traded one of their starters (Neil Allen) to the Cards. Allen went on the go 10-6 for the Cards that year.
I’m not saying that that was a good trade for St. Louis to make (after all, Hernandez went on to help the Mets win the World Series in 1986). What I am saying is that a team is willing to trade a cheap, established player (Neil Allen pitching for the Mets) for an expensive, productive veteran (Hernandez for the Cards).
Again, this doesnt happen that often. But it does happen.
