Rob, I just saw your post. I was thinking Vizquel too, obviously, and your point is well-taken. He COULD develop, just as we thought Frenchy COULD develop. There’s a long way to go. Generally speaking, you’re right. I wouldn’t have dealt him without having a long-term deal in place for Tex.
“Andrus is a light hitting good fielding shortstop. Nothing more.”
People used to say the same thing about me. I seemed to help bring stability to the Cards infield defense, and oddly enough, many players came and went, while I stayed.
I don’t ever recall being benched and always gave my all. Can you say that about Yunel?
Loved the McLouth deal. I expect Morton to be a really good pitcher. I just hate that we gave Andrus away when he has great makeup.. We seem to be missing character in the clubhouse.
Nice going with the pitch Garrett. 2 for 3 tonight, 1 double, average up to .287. Dude started off slow (was injured for most of spring training), however now that he has adjusted to the National League, he is starting to show that he can hit, which he did during his 14 years with the Angels.
Making adjustments is the name of the game, something Jeff Francoeur has failed to do.
I do not believe that DOB is from Atlanta I think he is from somewhere down in Florida. Most people in the cities in the south don’t have southern accents. And if they do it’s slight not like you see on TV where they are speaking as if it’s Gone with the Wind or something.
And speaking of hot weather it was 105 here in Alabama a couple of days ago with the heat index at 112. It was insanely hot.
And one last thought, the people that live in Atlanta and are Braves fans get out to the ballpark this stupid Lets Go Cubs chant is an embarrassment.
I was so pissed after losing six to these low lifes last year that I looked up our record against them going back to ‘91. From ‘91 to ‘07 we were 91 and 55.
So that would make it 92 and 62 after last year and this year. Respec’, as Ali G would say.
Francoeur just fouled that 0-1 pitch off, a curve that was in his eyes. Next pitch, he just sticks his bat out there and got lucky for that single. The pitch before that was supposed to be CRUSHED.
Great. Jeff has two hits. He’ll have an extension signed by Thursday.
On a side note, anybody out there think that Glavine should be the next president of the players union? I think that job was MADE for him. Had the Braves activated him, he wouldn’t really be available. Now he is.
I don’t agree with that statement at all Rob, guess let’s just agree to disagree, ok?
Let’s get this team some runs. poor Javy, loyt pressure. The guy probably can’t remember what a few runs are like. 8(
Guys, I cannot believe I am about to say this, but Jeff Franceour is starting to look…almost… decent. Perhaps it’s the swirling trade whispers causing him some urgency, but in the past couple weeks, his usual lumbering stroke has looked more authoritative. Am I wrong?
I just laugh when I hear Boog and Simpson talk about how well “Francoeur is swinging the bat”. Dude is getting pitches that he should DRIVE and is only hitting them up the middle or fouling them off. That is what is frustrating. If Chipper or McCann had a couple of hacks at some of the pitches that Francoeur has seen tonight, the Braves would be up by 4 or 5 runs.
The half/partial team is back on the field…great pitching and just about zero hitting. Maybe JV can keep the Cubs from getting a run and the half team will win. How hard can it be to find a SS, RF and/or LF who can hit?
I could claim reverse psychology on my last post, but the truth is that I thought the Cubs would score there. I hate to say it but I watch each close game with an underlying sense of dread.
