Bobby’s and Steve, good discussion about Kelly. Had so many hopes for him.. sigh.. I think he should seriously consider honing his skills in the outfield in the winter, and he could become a left handed version of Derosa. He is athletic enough that his outfield defense will be league average. Like you guys said, I would hate the Braves to sell low on him, and I hope the Braves hang on to him one more year.

Carroll Rogers:

“i’m reading off the Braves notes that plenty of good seats remain for the Red Sox and Yankees series…..wow.”

Carroll, being a Braves fan who doesn’t live in the metro area, I’m unable to attend more than about half a dozen Braves games a year. I’m about 3 hours away.

When I found that the Braves were playing the Red Sox AND Yankees at home this year, I was going to buy tickets for at least a game in each series……UNTIL…… The Braves started their “hold the gun to the fans head” tactics in April of saying if you didn’t buy a package, you couldn’t get tickets!

Well guess what. I wasn’t going to be held hostage and decided that under no circumstances would I pay to see either series.

I suppose there are other fans who felt the same way I did. No offense to the players or anyone on the blog but I hope the Braves management and marketing group CHOKE on those tickets! I just think it’s really funny that they are having to hawk those tickets just to be able to sell them all at this late date! You reap what you sow.

Plays like that last inning should make us realize McCann won’t catch another 8-10 years in MLB. The guy is too big go do this long term and his stick is way too good to have him hobbling in another 4 or 5 years. I think the Braves are making a huge mistake if they aren’t seriously considering their options for another position in the next couple of years. For those that haven’t spent time back there, it is really hard on your joints and back and moreso for a guy of Brian’s size. And (before you jump me McFann) I’m not just talking about his weight. RE: trading Lowe

I don’t think anyone is going to give adequate value considering the length of his contract. Who would take on $15 mill for 3+ years for a 36 year old? Its not impossible, but Vazquez has more value because of his shorter/cheaper contract.

rob from sc

June 22nd, 2009
8:46 pm

Trading Lowe is an interesting idea. For that to happen we need to make sure we keep Hudson to be the ace. Also before trading Lowe we would need to sign Javier Vazquez to a contract extension. If we are able to accomplish these two things then maybe trading Lowe could be an option. Really doubt Wren would even entertain that idea though.

Pennski…………I want to see whoever plays for the Braves to do well and help the team. However, because I feel so strongly that having Francoeur in the line-up is not a good thing……..I feel that any time Francoeur gets a hit, that just prolongs his stay in the line-up. So in essence, when he gets a hit, it hurts the line-up long term. He should have been

Damn, nice rip from McCann. Just in the wrong spot. He should have been benched a long time ago. Francoeur simply does not have the ability to go on any kind of hot streak. And when I say “hot streak”, I mean something like 4 homers and 4 doubles in a week span……..like you see from Chipper and McCann when they go on a hot streak. Not a 7 for 18 “hot streak” when you only have 1 double like Francoeur had about a week ago, lol.
