Jeff “give it up” Bennett strikes again. So, does KJ get an error on that one?
June 20th, 20098:57 pm
Hey, has BMac had that wrap on his left wrist the whole game?
Chip Caray: “I love the sound the ball makes off that wall, don’t you?”
Joe Simpson: “No”
How about a slow toss from Escobar allowing tha runner to get closer to KJ and take him out… and he gets an error. Boston more than likely this.
Steve from OH
My problem is with Steve who continues to call Lowe a dominant pitcher.
I challenge you to find one instance tonight in which I’ve called Lowe a “dominant” pitcher, much less the several which would entitle you to use the word “continues.”
Boston fans stand up and applaud their former players, ATL fans boo their former players.
And Jeff Bennett being in this game is like waving the white flag. Ah well, I knew it would be tough to beat Beckett.
June 20th, 20098:58 pm
O’s up 3-0 now.
So we use Moylan, Soriano, and Gonzo when we’re up by a ton, but bring in Bennett when we’re down by 2. Awesome, Bobby.
On a brighter note, I just Obama-ed a fly
GD F-ing Kelly Johnson. What’s the deal? He must have pictures of Bobby and a goat. He must. How in the hell is he playing 2b in the majors league otherwise? I ask you.
GA was too lazy to jump into the stands for that ball!
June 20th, 20098:59 pm
That was funny wasn’t it, Louisville Brave @ 8:57. Gotta love Joe.
Funny how the score of this game is paralleling the O’s/Mets game
Baltimore up now 3-0, Phillies coming up in the bottom of the 7th. However they have stranded 14 runners tonight. 13 hits, 5 walks….yet only 3 runs, lol.
Chop It Up All-Star
Bennett has great stuff, but just doesn’t appear to have it between the ears.
Steve is Stupid
June 20th, 20099:00 pm
Hey goober. Im da man and don’t you forget it!
*Sigh* Here we go.
Gotta love Joe
And gotta hate Chip.
OK, so it’s more on his arm…not really his wrist.
June 20th, 20099:01 pm
Louisville Brave @ 8:57–
Yeah, that was funny.
Our defense is a much bigger reason for our troubles than the offense.
There are only two teams with a worse Ballpark Adjusted Defensive Efficiency than the Braves, and it seems than every mistake leads to runs. That’s why we are 3-28 when scoring less than 3 despite good pitching
I can’t argue with wrong but I can’t admit I’m right either!
June 20th, 20099:02 pm
ted (the cubicle): What the heck happened to Kelly Johnson this year?
Marc Normandin: His BABIP isn’t up to snuff. His power is the same as it was last year, and he’s actually whiffing less often than in the past. That BABIP dipped 100 points though, despite a solid liner rate. He should bounce back, with some time..
Steve from OH
Thanks for posting this. It’s very true, Kelly’s hit into some really bad luck this year. It’s really got to be grating on him.
That’s our hero, Jeff!
June 20th, 20099:03 pm
With a good defense we’d only be losing games 1-0 instead of 3-0
Derek Lowe is a dominant pitcher
June 20th, 20099:04 pm
Yeah Bennett’s stuff is awesome.
Nothing quite like a guy who will either walk you or throw it directly down the middle at 95. Does wonders for your average.

June 20th, 20099:05 pm
Garret is having a really good series.
I hope you don’t hate me now
You know, I’ve gotta laugh. Bennett could go the rest of the year without allowing a run, and I think I’d still hate him. I just cannot bring myself to root for the dude. Kinda like Loaf. I will never be a fan of his. Just can’t do it.
June 20th, 20099:06 pm
That’s enough, Nick Green.
I am a legend in my own mind and don’t you forget it!
Ok, that 9:03 was an imposter. DOB, can you do me a solid and get rid of that post, and any others from anyone that’s not me? Thanks!
Roman Gal–I wasn’t aware of it until I saw that response. Makes sense, b/c Kelly shouldn’t be struggling as much as he is.
I’m out for the night. Anything else you see isn’t me.
June 20th, 20099:07 pm
How can we manage to hit a foul ball in the 12 inches between the fair pole and the seats?
RHR…dont love Joe as much as I think CC is a complete dork…yeah, chip, tell all of us Braves fans how awesome that sound is after a Boston hitter has just clanked on off the monster…great commentary chip
June 20th, 20099:08 pm
This is the last point I will make on the subject.
When Lowe is on with his sinker than it is fine to throw the pitch 80% of the time. When he is leaving it up like he was tonight, you need to change your approach.
Hanson knew he was throwing to many fastballs and hard slider so in the game against Cincinnati he throw mainly fastballs and Curveballs. He needed to get the hitters of the fastball.
When Lowe is being hit, I just wish he would change speeds more and throw off the hitters timing. That is what Javier Vazquez does so well.
Ha, Chip said “Let’s see if Francoeur can with one swing of the bat, bring the Braves back from the brink.”
Attaboy Krotch. Too bad Kotchman’s not from Iowa. We could call him the Groin of Des Moines.
I dig the look of Kotchman’s swing. It sometimes looks crazy, but distinctive and cool to me for some reason.
June 20th, 20099:09 pm
I know Louisville, but I love Joe’s deadpan, which is exactly what all us braves fans were thinking.
Night Steve, I hate name stealing losers on here.
Come on Jeff, be a hero in front of all your boston family.
Francoeur is auditioning for the Red Sox – he will come through!!
June 20th, 20099:11 pm
I have a question for anyone who knows the concepts of hitting. DOB maybe a player can answer it for me. The ball used to jump off his bat. Even when it looks like he crushed a pitch it doesn’t go anywhere. Is his bat speed slow ( meaning a slider speed bat), is it his wrists, lower body. Just wondering where the power went
cabravesfan – are you crazy? – I’m cool with being #2 (am I #2?) to a stud like my boy Tom – especially in a totally fantasy-baseball coast-to-coast situation. I have a dilemma – I just realized I’m out of wine for tomorrow (an expected Whole Foods trip yesterday disappeared with my cancelled tutoring session), and I live in a backwards state where a Sunday purchase would be a sinful act. And then, there’s Jeff.
Of course. No comment.
I was thinking the same thing, Chop it up. And the answer is…NO.
I own Derek Lowe.
June 20th, 20099:12 pm
Francouer hits into a DP…Why do I not have the surprised feeling?
WHO DIDN’T KNOW!!!
Good old DP Francouer.
Chipper really helped set that one up…some of you may say huh?…but Chipper swung at a 3-1 pitch from Beckett and if Chipper swings at a 3-1 pitch others will too.
Chop It Up All-Star- I was about to write the same. But I don’t think the Red Sucks want Francoeur now, do they? 0-7 so far this series.
Sure am glad I came on just in time for Franceour to ground into DP
Royals Still Scouting Jeff Francoeur
By Eddie Schmid [June 20 at 7:14pm CST]
According to Mark Bowman at MLBlogs, the Royals retain interest in Braves OF Jeff Francoeur and are keeping an eye on him this weekend. However, Bowman notes that if a deal were to happen, the Braves might have to be willing to take on the $12MM owed to Jose Guillen.
Guillen is owed another $12MM in 2010 before his contract expires. The Royals’ interest in Francoeur is well-known, though supposedly not everyone in the KC front office is keen on him. It isn’t clear if the Braves would be willing to add any payroll, let alone any payroll that would involve a potential headcase like Guillen.
June 20th, 20099:13 pm
Francour has to go ASAP I think the Braves made too much of him years ago and it has messed him all up mentally. He was supposed to be the next face of the franchise and yeah he is state of the franchise in a nutshell.
That was probably going to be a ball. He didn’t have to swing at that one.
Why am I surprised by that? I really thought he might get it done there. Laying off that one would have been good enough. Probably a ball.
Now I’m somewhat disappointed by this. Good chance there and we blew it.
June 20th, 20099:14 pm
Mother F-ing SOB Francouer. Did anybody in the city think that he would not hit into a DP.
Even if neither one had pitched the last two days….they aren’t going to come in the game in the 7th inning.
Sorry bravos2249 but that’s one of the dumbest theories I’ve ever heard. I mean, it’s pretty damn clear by now that Jeff doesn’t pay any attention to anything Chipper does, no?
June 20th, 20099:15 pm
Wow, Phillies winning all of a sudden.
You are more like 1B Not sure if you know how high a man that likes to cook rates on my scale…
How can you be out of wine? That’s very disappointing! (and I’m sad for you) Can’t you get some tonight?
Can’t blame Jeff for swinging at a 3-1 pitch down the middle with KJ on deck, now can you? Not saying Jeff gets a pass because he’s just plain dreadful, but sometimes I have to slow my anti-Jeff rants here.
Mike in LA
Please release Francouer. Geez! How many rallies does he have to kill for us?
Best thing would have been to lay off that one. Why can’t he ever do that?
3-1 does not mean you have to swing at the next pitch, although when was the last time he had a 3-1 count?
June 20th, 20099:16 pm
Low and away, and he couldn’t friggin lay off it. Feebly hit into a DP. Dammit, Jeff. 3-1 is a one pitch, one zone situation. Low and away is clearly not your zone, Jeff. You’ve shown that over and over and over again. It’s the same result everytime you go for low and away. K or feeble groundout that you either can’t lay off or refuse to drive the other way, preferring it seems to roll feeble grounders to short or little lazy choppers. So why the hell in a 3-1 one pitch, one zone were you swinging at a pitch in the one zone you have the most problems with? Friggin’ retarded mofo.
Wait…I thought Howard was in the hospital? Losing ground tonight it looks like.
God ^”%^%^”%&”(”()*”()* Francoeur!!!!!!!!!! How many blessed times has he come up to bat with the game on the line this year?????????? UN REAL. I am so sick of his limp ground ball double plays to kill rallies.
GET THE F RID OF HIM.
June 20th, 20099:17 pm
Two outs. Let’s finish them off and start bunting with Kelly.
Kelly’s gotta get on. Can’t start off with an out. Still a chance.
Preach it, Braveheart.
June 20th, 20099:18 pm
Dammit you’re right. Philly is winning.
It’s ok….I hear the Red Sox closer is pretty shaky
June 20th, 20099:19 pm
Joe: “Down by 3 but up there hacking”
Chip Carey is by far the worst announcer I’ve ever heard. How many times has he said, “Let’s see if this guy can hit a three run homer”, only to have the hitter strike out or ground into a double play. SHUT UP CHIP.
Until Cox or Wren or whoever get Johnson and Franceur out of this lineup, Every time the Braves look like they mightdo something, one of these two clowns come up and kill us.
SIT THEM DOWN OR SEND THEM DOWN. ANYTHING WE REPLACE THEM WITH HAS TO BE BETTER.
Kelly launched that
Ok, we’re gonna lose but I’d feel a little better if the Braves scored at least one run tonight.
June 20th, 20099:20 pm
So let me get this right. Frenchy hits 2 balls really hard that the defense makes great plays on, and he’s in a funk. I mean, by no means is he tearing it up. But he seems to be seeing the ball better and hitting it harder. Chill out people….
I guess we’ll never now, but take this:
May 30 @ Arizona: Mike Gonzalez pitched for 2 innings (30 pitches)
June 8 vs Pittsburgh, June 2 vs Chicago Cubs: Rafael Soriano pitched for 2 innings (24 and 29 pitches, respectively).
What the hell was that Nate?
As the Wine Turns
Vinings Jim is out of wine! What will he do? What will Cabravesfan think about what Vinings Jim does? Stay tuned for the unbelievable conclusion of our story!
Ode to the Frenchman
Send Frenchy to the benchie,
He’s really hitting crappy.
His OBP and OPS
Are worse than Big Ole Papi.
His power’s gone,
His number’s up.
He couldn’t hit Bob Wickman’s stuff.
If I have to watch him hit one more DP,
I’ll just go take a nappy.
cabravesfan – the dilemma is going back out tonight – keep in mind, it’s almost midnight here (well, it’s at least dark). Then again, I think the game may end by 9:21.
Gator in the Hootch
You don’t have to trade Jeff, just sit him down and let Diaz play right full time. Who would you rather have up in that situation, Diaz or Francour? Neither are the best options, but Diaz is a better player right now that Francouer. Whatever major league talent Jeff had is gone for good, I think. Time, long past time, for a change in right. Diaz now, someone else later…hopefully better than Diaz or Francouer. Anderson is starting to hit, so let him play full time and play Diaz full time in right until a trade can be done. But I guess they are playing Jeff so that other clubs can look at him. They can’t be liking what they see.
Braveheart – it seems like the only person that doesn’t know that is Francoeur. And maybe the coaches
Papelbon is one of the best, better then anybody we have.
June 20th, 20099:21 pm
FIVE PITCHES THREE OUTS, PATHETIC!!!
In answer to your question DOB, yes it was just another tease
June 20th, 20099:22 pm
It’s a shame! How many pitches did Beckett throw this inning? Like, five?
Whats the pitching matchup for tomorrow?
Reading Beckett’s mouth there, you can see him shoo off McLouth and say..get outta here! Earlier, when he got Chipper he said… wasting pitches on that fa***! Anybody else notice that and think he’d get drilled more than once if he was in the NL hitting?
June 20th, 20099:23 pm
Ugh…and DGANG tomorrow…
June 20th, 20099:24 pm
Telling statistic – Beckett threw 94 pitches. The Braves hitters have to do better than that. I understand he had 67 strikes but how about some foul balls to run up the pitch count.
Anyone else sick of hearing Chip announce that Frenchy is just a long ball away from tying the game. Who is he kidding???? Frenchy has hit 1 long ball all month. The Sox announcers were probably saying that Becket just needed one routine comebacker to turn the double play and end the inning.
DOB – this team ain’t finding any momentum with Frenchy & KJ killing the lineup. Why not let the pitcher bat instead of these pathetic hitters.
The trip is totally worth it (and it would provide As the Wine Turns with that unbelievable conclusion he’s hoping for )
RHR (The Eternal Optimist)
June 20th, 20099:25 pm
Oh hey, I still have time to go to the closest grocery store before it closes. Thanks, Braves!
No seriously, Beckett was lights out and Lowe was shaky for an inning or 2 before Bobby hooked him and they still only beat us 3-0. With that lineup, which by the way, is far superior to what we had out there.
June 20th, 20099:26 pm
And the Phillies are up 5-3
Huddy, I agree completely. Chip Carey has jinxed this team so many times. I thought Skip was bad…Chip is 10 times worse.
And the Phillies are now up 5-3
June 20th, 20099:27 pm
This is the second game that a Chipper 1st innings blunder caused a downfall of a game.
