All you baseball fanatics out there, if you want your kid to be a star baseball player just make sure his middle name is Herman

George Herman Ruth
Jerome Herman Dean

Don't bother to thank me, just send 10% of his first MLB contract

kirkinga...............NO TEAM is going to trade for Jeff Francoeur. OK? Reason being, NO TEAM is going to want to risk Francoeur being awarded $6-7 mil in salary arbitration. Contrary to what many of you may believe, arbitrators factor in past seasons, not just the last season. The fact that Francoeur plays everyday and plays good defense in right will be SELLING POINTS that his agent will use if some team is foolish enough to tender him a contract and go to salary arbitration with Francoeur.

Basically, if a team were to trade for Francoeur, they would only be getting half a season out of him, because they will end up non-tendering him after the season. That is why Francoeur has ZERO trade value. Benching him will NOT reduce his trade value.

However, benching him will strengthen the Braves offense and give the Braves a better chance to win.

Evening, folks. Judy and I are slumming up here in Blue Ridge GA, watching our team, of course. I had a great time emailing my Yankee friends in NY and pointing out that the Braves have won more games in Fenway this year than have the Bronx Bombers.

Garrett has played the Monster many times, no?

Nice ground balls by D Lowe!

nolie
Nolie...I was born and raised in Toledo until I went in the military. Toledo was an ok place to grow up - the best parts were the zoo, HotDog Johns, Tony Packos, the Mud Hens (saw a lot of Yankees come up),the park system, and going up to Lake Erie.
I've lived in Spokane, Wa/Couer d"alene Id for over 30 years now and there's no comparison. We have jobs, clean lakes, mountains, and great housing prices. Toledo has a Maumee river the color of coffee, and a feel like it's the Allentown that Billy Joel sang about. The zoo's still there but not much else is left...the best part now is the exit sign.

olie - Gasoline is almost $3 a gallon down here - but I would have paid $20 for it if I could have found it after Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Never, ever again. (KeyLargo)

yeah it's back close to that here in SW Fla too. We had the same deal when Charley came through, no gas, no power, no phones etc etc. I'm stocked up too. Since I'm retired this year though, I think there is more chance that I might flee the scene if one looks particularly bad.
Loved you comment about the tourists, very true over there. Here we mostly have snowbirds and most of them are gone by hurricane season anyway.

Once again, Matt Diaz is on the bench while Francoeur’s 4 homers in 246 at bats bats 8th.

It makes sense if you are trying to trade a guy Paul. A guy who you have in the lineup every day is going to appear to be more valuable than one you've just given up on and benched..or looks like you're about to release.

At the very least, Francoeur will still give you good defense. Until he's traded don't expect to see him out of the lineup much.
