I like your theory. I definitely think the Phils will pay in the long run for their piss poor starting pitching. They put way too much pressure on the offense having to score 5 or 6 minimum every game to win. Even though they are very capable of doing so, it ain’t going to happen all year long.
Good to see Tommy Hanson sitting next to Lowe. The kid will have to face these guys in Atlanta next week and who better to give him some scouting reports than the ex-BoSox Derek Lowe.
Should be interesting tomorrow with Beckett and Lowe going at it.
cabravesfan – I am very disturbed that you are sticking up for GA, who clearly is a lazy person who has suckered the MLB establishment over the past 16 years.
Bad luck there for McLouth. If the first baseman wasnt holding the runner on, that’s an easy double down the right field line. Instead, it’s a double play.
I wish we would have released Norton and kept Barbaro up here. He wouldnt be any worse. He can play 1st adequately and the dude can hit. What would the score be if we had Barabaro in there as DH, Loaf in LF. Diaz is rough today. He can be too much of a liability. You dont know if he is going to go 3-4 or 0-4 with the golden sombrero.
True Paul, but it is nice to see some solid hits in play that otherwise would be good luck for the boys. Too many times this season we have all been griping about poor at bats. We have to be liking the approach the guys have done so far today.
as someone who actually watched Garret play with the Angels, I can vouch for his abilities from first hand knowledge. I like him, I have always liked him and I hope my fellow Braves fans will come to see why I stick up for him all the time
(and yes, I did pick up the sarcasm there )
We’ll have to remember this game when we feel like we make struggling pitcher’s look like Cy Young. This time we made a struggling pitcher look like a struggling pitcher.
Meanwhile, you can believe the Boston fans think their hitters are making our mediocre guy look like an ace. I guess it happens to great teams, too.
cabravesfan………….the only problems I have with the Braves is management’s refusal to bench Francoeur, and Bobby’s insisting on using Moylan in the 7th inning.
for at least the 25th time- Norton is on the DL. He can’t be released while on the DL, nor would he free up a roster space because he is not currently on the 25 man roster.
cabravesfan – this is where I would say “that’s why have fond feelings for you,” but that would sound too much like that coward who stayed off the blog until after I left last night. I just had what might be the quintessential Atlanta moment – I was in Publix, and a guy came up and said, “Jim (correct last name)?” It was a guy I worked with and played softball with over 15 years ago in Richmond. The good thing for me was that I look as youthful as I did then – he has put on a few pounds since then, and I would not have recognized him.
I forgot to add into that theory the fact that as year goes by, this poor hitting team will start facing more tired pitching staff………..injured pitchers, etc………… Some will say……..ours is also gonna get tired………..but the truth is……….if they stay healthy, they can be as dominant as they have been all season long.
1) Youkilis wasn’t even on first…kelly could’ve atleast attempted a throw
2) I’ve seen 2nd baseman throw with worse feeds than that….and when you’ve been playing with the same guy for IDK how long you need to learn how to throw when he may give you a bad feed
3) It wasn’t like bay’s homer was on a good pitch or was a cheap homer
Groundfog, if we had any offense and the least bit of mental toughness we would be world series bound.
There are a lot of pieces on this team that I think compare very favorably to the top teams in baseball. We just have a lot of other crap that keeps us solidly at or below a .500 team.
Come on now! You know I have to defend my guy! He rarely shows up before 1:00 EST- don’t blame him just because you have to go to bed by 10 maybe if you stuck around longer…
I look a lot younger then I am too- I was buying beer today and the woman checking me out looked stunned that I was buying alcohol…checked my ID twice
Yeah…it’s been in the back of my mind all year that if they can just stay close, as the year goes on, the Phils should come back some unless they can significantly upgrade their starting pitching. Just no way they can keep up that pace if their starters are giving up a 5 spot every game. I think we’re seeing a little of that now with the Phils. The hitting has cooled somewhat and they aren’t winning as much.
Now, the muts, that’s a different story. I think they have the combination of hitting and pitching to win the division if they ever get healthy.
Garrett has been hitting the ball with some “authority” since the his struggles in April. His average is up to .273 while Francoeur’s has dipped to .249

In Franceour’s current 7 game “hot streak”, he is batting .280 (7 for 25) with 1 double, 1 walk, and 4 RBI. Virtually no power.
Meanwhile, nice walks in back to back at-bats for Johnson. Hopefully he will be more selective on the pitches he swings at.
