Not suggesting that Cox is thinking in these terms, but appearances/IP play a large role in the relief pitcher evaluations for Type A/B FA.

I did notice that the umpire had a low strike zone that benefited KK tonight. He really is still learning how to pitch within the MLB strikezone. A lot of his pitches just off the plate are strikes in Japan and he is facing better hitters 1 – 9 than he saw in Japan. I think he will become a valuable asset down the stretch.

I changed my mind about using Gonzo. I didn’t like it at first, I was hoping Bobby wouldn’t bring him in but here’s my theory about why it was a good move: we won.

Give Moylan credit too. I was in the other room when he came in and I came back right when he got the last strike out. Had I been watching when he started off the inning I would have been about ready to throw something. But he got it done didn’t he?

I saw MLB Network showed that catch by Jason Bay down the line. They must have forgotten that we scored a run because he had to slide and because Garrett made a heads-up play. But I guess he deserved the accolades.

Our offense will score tons of runs when our first 4 hitters hit. However when they don’t the bottom half doesn’t pick them up. Martin Prado needs to be the everyday second baseman. Platoon Anderson and Diaz, and we will just have to live with Francoeur. I think Cox is just being stupid by playing Johnson.

AndyC,

I think the muts are already out of it………. Putz is out……..Delgado……….KRod has blown some leads lately………… That team is hurting.

On the other hand, you really think 1 pitcher will make the diff for the phillies? I dont think so. They need more than one……….They can get more than 1, but that wont be easy. They can win with what they have right now, but only if we dont get our most needed bat. Once we do that, if we do, we will have the edge. I think Braves are waiting to see how the situation with McLouth will develop in order to know how big should the bat they are gonna get, be. Hope they get more help

This team is frustrating. They just clicked tonight perfectly…………Im sure thats the team Wren thought he he had put together in spring.

Muts pitching is starting to melt down. All we need is to play good and those phillies bats will sooner or later start slumping. Specially now that Ibañez is on the DL.

Kelly’s gotta keep seeing more pitches. I understand that Pendleton wants him to be aggressive in the strike zone, but I think Kelly takes that to mean that he just needs to be more aggressive overall. That’s not his game. I’m not a big fan of him, but he’s better than a OBP hovering around .300. Francoeur isn’t really better than that, but Kelly is.

I hope Garret is having deja vu.

Paul Lentz

I was looking at Garrett’s, Diaz’s and Francoeur’s stats:

……………………Garrett……….Diaz……….Francoeur

At-Bats……………154………….122…………….246…..
Average…………(.273)……….(.279)………….(.248)….
Doubles………………8…………….6………………..6….
Triples………………..0…………….2………………..2….
Homers………………3…………….3………………..4…
RBIs…………………23…………..17………………30…
Walks……………….10…………..12………………12…
Strikeouts………….18…………..26………………36….

Franceour has far more at-bats than both Diaz and Garrett. Yet compare their numbers to his? Instead of platooning Diaz with Garrett………Garrett and Diaz should be the ones playing everyday while Francoeur is riding the bench. I’d use Francoeur as a late inning replacement and move Diaz to left to spell Anderson.

You are probably right. The Phils do need more than one pitcher. But, in a real tight division race coming down to the end of season, one really hot pitcher can make a difference especially with the kind of offense they have. I think the division is going to stay tight for a while anyway. It seams like none of the teams want to step up. The Phils seemed like they had put it together but now they are back to playing poorly. It’s been a crazy race so far in the east.

If we lose tomorrow Tomahawkin will be back to saying we are horrible, need to be sellers, we have an awfense, no one on our team can hit. HILARIOUS!

Nothing has changed because of a win yesterday and tonight – lets be clear about that. This team needs to make it through this 13 (now 12) game stretch before it becomes clearer which way they are leaning in terms of being a buyer or a seller.

Of course, if the Braves do indeed play to the level of competition, then they need to figure out a way to beat the weaker teams once this tough stretch is over.

All of the sportstalk losers (ie Kincaid & Shapiro) said we were going to get swept (or there-abouts) by the titans of the AL East, therefore the last 10 games were vitally important. We’ll see over the next 9 days. Guess that is a Monday makeup game at the Cubs.

As Heath (Cleveland) said, maybe it is better to win on the road than at home. If we manage to make the playoffs, that will be critical because we will definitely be on the road alot.

I like Doc’s theory about us getting stronger as the year goes on too, because of our starting pitcher depth. That is a good possibility if the bats can stay hot like tonight. Having the DH actually helped us, too.

I agree with those above who said that we need to keep (some of) the middle relievers off the field. Bennet has already shown me that he can’t throw a strike when required which automatically shows that a pitcher is below average.

Can’t wait to see us face Beckett tomorrow night.

My only criticism of Cox is that he is not aggressive enough offensively. I would like to see more stealing and “hit and run”. Lastly, it seems that our batters are working the count a little bit more. Bobby said something about that in the paper the other day, so maybe he has been telling that to the players.

Anybody looking for a good war movie might want to check out The Hurt Locker.

It comes out next month but I reviewed it last night (or perhaps I previewed it). I’m reviewing it for atlanta insite.

Most if not all of the movies about Iraq have been extremely political even when they’re trying not to be. The Hurt Locker is about a three man unit in Bagdad who disarm IED’s and who are a month away from the end of their tour. The director, a woman (gasp), really examines the paranoia they experience on their missions with civilians constantly observing them who may or may not be insurgents. There’s an amazing combat sequence that has almost no action. It’s hard to describe but it is a completely apolitical Iraq war movie which is a hard thing to achieve.

I recommend it, in case anybody should care.

Tom O – not wireless, but it started typing backwards – when I entered a letter, the cursor stayed where it was, so the result was that the words formed backwards. It took effort to type out the post I did to be sure it came out forward. And I did receive the reply, but not until this morning, so I have not yet replied.

cabravesfan – I was curious to see what your reaction would be to RG’s video, and was not surprised.
