I have been thinking the same thing about Bobby. I don’t think he wants to go out on a losing season. I think he will stay until he gets a winning/playoff season. Doesn’t look good this year so I think we can count on him coming back. The Braves have no choice but to bring him back even if they wanted him to retire. They can’t ask him to leave can they? Well, we saw Smoltz and Glavine leave town on bad terms so why not Bobby?

But still, this is tough to watch at this point. Consider that since May 24, 2007, Glavine is 10-11 with a 5.09 ERA in 37 starts, with 229 hits, 81 walks and 95 strikeouts in 203-1/3 innings.
And since Sept. 20, 2007, he’s 2-6 with a 6.84 ERA in 16 starts, with a .322 opponents’ average and almost as many walks (41) as strikeouts (44). (DOB)
Are you kidding me? Seriously? After all the crap you gave me when I said Glavine was done back in 2007 and you threw all this “quality start” through August of 2007 junk at me time after time – now you quote his stats starting with the last 3/4’s of that season as a sign he was done. Really?

Great point about the pitchers getting a little frazzled by the lack of run support. Vazquez and Jurrjens especially seem that way as of late. I’m sure KK is just glad to be in America. Lowe will definitely snap at some point if not given support. It wears on your mind feeling like your team won’t be able to recover if you make one mistake.

Vazquez for best package of prospects
Francoeur for whatever you can get or send to AAA
Kotchman for LaRoche- PGH might do this straight up after contract review, especially if you agree to take Wilson too and eat the contract. Remember that Kotch + a prospect got Tex last year.
Escobar for Cody Ross + a prospect. You know Florida would love having Esco at SS and Hanley at 3B for the next few seasons, especially with the Cuban population down there.
As for the answer to “why trade Escobar and Kotchman?”
Simple- they are tradeable pieces that don’t fit what we need. You can’t trade junk for anything but junk. These are solid players under team control for a few years and cheap. I think it makes a ton of sense. Funniest thing is that the contracts of LaRoche + Wilson + Ross are almost identical to Vazquez + Kotchman + Francoeur.

Please, for the love of God, let’s make Prado a fixture at second base until Infante returns, at which point we can re-evaluate the situation. I’m a Cox defender, but this is a dealbreaker….if he continues to allow Kelly Johnson to be a black hole in this offense while Prado looks on from the bench, it’s going to be more than I can take. Cox’s apparent infatuation with KJ has reached the point of being inexcusable. Make it stop. Please. I’m begging here.

You guys can bash KJ and Frenchy all you want but Cox is the one that keeps playing them hoping for a breakout from one or both of these guys. I really don’t see the crime in playing Prado everyday and use KJ off the bench. Same goes for Frenchy and have Diaz play regularly. Whatever, he’s the manager and we’re just bored fans on a computer.

McLouth of the South, I don’t necessarily disagree with anyt of the other players you mentioned but Escobar is irreplaceable at the moment.
Yes, Yunel is a head case who seems to have ticked off most if not all of his teammates. Not to mention Bobby Cox. But he is also the reason Atlanta was able to include Elvis Andrus in the Teixiera trade. Trading Escobar now would make no sense in light of what was given up.

I don’t think Hudson’s lock. Coming off elbow surgery and getting close to another another run at a large dollar, multiyear contract may make him expendable.
I will say, though, if Hudson returns to form, I’d figure out a way of moving Kawakami to accomodate him.

I was thinking about this whole uh…doubles thing, and how I had compared BMac’s uh…doubles total this season to those of past season after a certain number of AB. Then I got to thinking that 2006 would be the best season to compare this year’s stats to, since he spent time on the DL that year as well. And at this point in ‘06, he had roughly the same number of AB as he does thus far this year.
Through June 18, 2006 (146 AB): 11 uh…doubles, 0 triples, 5 HR, and 21 RBI. (He finished the year with 34 uh…doubles, 0 triples, 24 HR, and 93 RBI.)
Through June 18, 2009 (155 AB): 10 uh…doubles, 1 triple, 6 HR, and 26 RBI.

Speaking on the pitchers. I was watching the Braves/Reds game with Vasquez on the mound. He gave up the HR to Bruce early and you could see it written all over his face. OH S%$t, I just cost us the game. He was deflated. Now, I know ATL retook the lead, but you could definitely see the pressure he was under to try and make each pitch perfect, thus why he struggled early in the game with his control.

I concur! I just stated earlier that why couldn’t we trade D.Lowe as easily to a pitching starved team in the race(with deep pockets)as we could a younger (Vazquez) an equally as good (IMO)less expensive pitcher.(You would have thought the world was coming to an end by even making that remark). I know Vazquez is a free agent after next season but maybe he would take a contract extension now. I’m sure we would all rather move KK if push came to shove but he is still unproven and therefore probably won’t draw near the interest. If say the Yankees or whoever said, we’ll take D.LOwe and his contract and trade you a young RH powerbat, why wouldn’t you? (Just hypothetically speaking) Seems to me the Yankees could use a very good sinker ball pitcher in that little bandbox they play in.

Heath- I have to say I’m concerned about the Mets. They’ve given away at least 4 games the last week and a half. Granted they have lot’s of injuries but that really had nothing to do with the 4 games. 2 were because of defensive lapses by regulars and the other two were blown by the bullpen the last two nights.
Overall I’ve been happy at how they’ve hung in there during the injuries but I have a feeling they’re headed into a downswing. All the signs are there. They are coming home so maybe they stave it off.
I just want to get to 7/10/09 within 5 games of the top of the division. I’ll sign up for that right now.

Escobar has consistent hands, great range and a strong arm that’s a plus at any infield position. He is also the best athlete on the team.

Anders, you are right. You called it back then. You know it. We all know it. And whether he’ll admit it or not, DOB knows it to.
But here’s the thing. Had the Braves had the “losing it” Tom Glavine in 2007 in their pitching staff to just simply give us those innings, the Braves beat both you guys and the Phillies that year in winning the NL East.
That’s how BAD our backend of our rotation was.
If you disagree, you lose all credibility and “credit” for you calling Glavine “done”. LOL!

Frustrated – the reason why people have thrown Escobar’s name out there is that if we are going to get something good back in the trade we also have to give up something significant. Chipper and McCann are not going anywhere. Neither are Heyward or Freeman. Aside from a starting pitcher, Escobar would seem to be the trade chip.

I agree with Coach on Escobar….The only way I would think of trading him is for a similarly talented young guy that needs a new address..Sort of a challenge trade…maybe for the Upton kid….I still believe TP needs to go and we need some fresh blood in the dugout….Frenchy is what he is (an athlete learning baseball), but Kelly is a good hitter who needs to someone to lead him out of the forest…TP is not the man to do that, no more than he was with Jordan….Heck, if he can’t be the pitching coach, bring Leo back as the hitting coach….Something to get some fire back in the dugout…I understand Chipper says he’s not going to first, but if we brought in someone who could add to the team, he might

Actually Believe It Or Not, The Braves Will come Correct Tonight, “Bank On It”
They Play their Best Baseball when they are expected to lose (Remember the Sweep against the Jays and the last series at Citi Field). It Seems Like the Come correct against the good teams of the game and lay down to the Garbage teams of the league, like we have seen during the last 2 weeks!
That has been a season long trend so far…Braves will take 2 of 3 this series…Maybe they finally have some Momentum Now…
