We don’t need Tommy out there again. You have to remember also we want to limit his innings. Come August and September, the brass is going to be seeking to limit his IP to prevent injuries. Not only is he a rookie, but he pitched in the AFL last year too. We are hopefully going to be seeing Hanson for years to come. Now isn’t the time to go all Mark Prior on him.

It would be way cool to see Hanson pitch a CG too, but let him do it when he’s thrown 79 pitches after 6 innings, not 99. Expecting him to throw 140 this early in his career is inviting injury.

It’s sad to me when a guy throwing a shutout comes out of the game after 6IP and only 99 pitches. This pitch count mess does not build enough arm strengh and only makes them weaker.

Hanson’s ERA down to a very respectable 4.08. WHIP down to 1.58 and looks like he is staring at a 2-0 major league record as well. Not bad. That bad taste in the mouth from letting the other guy go is quickly disapating.

Guys. Relax on Tommy coming out of the game. It’d be one thing if it were a veteran pitcher.

Let’s try this again. There is a HIGH CORRELATION between ROOKIE PITCHERS THROWING EXCESSIVE INNINGS and SIGNIFICANT INJURY TROUBLE.

Odds are that we win this game whether he stays in or not. But leaving him in for this victory, at the risk of turning him into the next Kerry Wood or Mark Prior, is just silly.

I hope so, too. Last time I was at Fenway the Braves lost the first game like 19 to 0, or something like that. I immediately bought tickets to the second game and the Braves returned the favor. It was pretty awesome.

Lol seems like KJ walks in every game I actually get to watch on TV. Doesn’t affect my decision, KJ isn’t really any more of a liability than GA anyway, in fact KJ is probably more likely to hit the ball in the air and avoid a DP. Keeping Chipper fresh and more out of harm’s way by DHing him would still be the smart thing to do.

I don’t think they hit Tommy very hard today. Tons of weak popups. Only 2 strikeouts, but I think he is pitching to contact right now until he gets comfortable. MAinly curveballs and fastballs. I expect him to begin throwing more sliders and striking out more people in his next few starts. He doesn’t give up many solid hits. Once he gets his control down he will be hard to score against.

Since I am in the mood for spitting out stats today…here are Matt Diaz’s career numbers:

G | AB | R | H | 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
391 1023 119 312 48 9 25 119 48 192 16 8 .305 .345 .443 .787

Folks…that’s numbers that have been accumulated since 2003…and that is enough games played to be 2.5 full seasons. I can not emphasize enough that unless a trade is made, we have a good solution for LF. I would take those numbers from my LF. Wouldn’t hesitate. Especially since he makes LESS THAN $1.3M!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m pleased to see Diaz show what he can do when given an opportunity to bat up in the order. 2 for 4 with a homer and a double. It’s production like that that we need on days that Brian McCann has off.

When was the last time that Francoeur had a homer and a double in a game? Or two extra base hits in a game? Hitting 9 for 26 with 1 double is ok, however when Francoeur falls back down to his normal self average wise (.250), then his lack power really hurts the line-up. Dude simply cannot drive the ball anymore.

Yet tomorrow, rest assured, Bobby will have Francoeur and his .228 average against right handers (Dice-K is pitching for Boston tomorrow night) in the starting line-up. Meanwhile, thanks for the double and homer today Matt Diaz, but you’ll be back on the bench tomorrow.
