Glad you asked…those my friend, are Prado’s career big league numbers. Those games played are spread out over a few years, so, while other teams have had time to “get a book” on him, he has continued to perform at a very reasonable level. Time to put him in full time?
Wow, hey you guys, Frenchy has 5 strikeouts this month, did you know that? He had 23 in 109 ABs last month and this month has 5 in 48. So he’s on pace to strikeout 10-12 times this month. He also has 5 walks this month compared to 1 last month. And for fun – 7 RBIs, 1 HR this month and 10 RBIs, 1 HR last month.
Those numbers don’t count today and have 11 more games after today for this month. Not huge strides I know, but the fact is he’s on pace to have an improved month, and that’s something to be happy about.
When we go to Boston…honestly we should have Diaz in Left/ GA DH or Blanco in LF and Diaz DH…..and Prado at 2nd….that would put the best team on the field.
Having Chipper DH would allow better D at 2nd but it also makes us put KJ at 2nd which doesn’t put our best lineup in there.
Diaz may very well be a 4th outfielder. The problem is that Bobby has never let him show us that. He is definitely better than GA this year, and as such, he should be the starting LF.
This year:
Diaz > GA
Prado > KJ
I think there are two immediate upgrades to the team, both defensively and especially offensively Bobby would just cut that loyalty BS and do it.
I dunno Bravos, I understand your logic, but if I’m managing I’m keeping Chipper out of harm’s way as much as possible. A wood chip sidelines him for a week. No, if he can DH, he’s DHing if I can help it. Besides, I think Prado plays a 3B than 2B. Kelly’s AVG is hurting, but he still draws some walks; he’d be fine in the 9 hole with McClouth due up next.
Aw Buffalo Braves fan, Tommy Hanson just got his first hit and RBI. I’m at work and actually working so I’m only popping in with my cheers now and again.
Jayson Stark has a new article up on ESPN. One of the pieces I read that was interesting:
Off with the show: Bobby Cox isn’t the only one that has been rubbed the wrong way by Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar’s attention to style over detail lately.
“Somebody better remind him he’s Yunel Escobar, not Gloria Estefan,” said one scout. “There ain’t no show going on. This is baseball. Let’s play.”
it’s cool. I was keeping track on my cell phone, but my battery died. Watched the first 2 innings while I was out for lunch….. now completely lost haha.
Too little too late, I’m afraid. Where in the hell is this team 3 out of every 4 days? The Phils and Mets will win of course. We can’t win games when they lose. This is unfair to Braves fans everywhere: keeping us within 61/2 games so that we HAVE to keep watching until the all star break.
I agree with you on the lineup for the BOS series:
1.) McLouth CF
2.) Escobar SS
3.) Chipper 3B
4.) McCann C
5.) Diaz LF
6.) GA DH
7.) JF RF
8.) Kotchman 1B
9.) Prado
(I would put Prado at 9 because he serves as a second lead off type of guy when wrapping around the lineup and he is more likely to be on base for the power-hitting McLouth than JF.)
I agree with those that say pitch counts are over-rated, but I doubt we’ll see a CG from Hanson today since he has 89 pitches and only 1 out in the 6th inning.
Braves have 7 runs, they might be able to hold off any potential O’Flaherty/Moylan collapse (note the 4-2 lead in Baltimore, with a 6 run 7th thanks to those two)
Sutton had an interesting comment about him pitching a complete game for his 300th win. That he didn’t know his pitch count for the first 16 years of his career. What’s your opinion on today’s obsession with the number of pitches?
Heath, like the lineup with one exception…
1.) McLouth CF
2.) Escobar SS
3.) Chipper 3B
4.) McCann C
5.) Diaz LF
6.) Ross DH
7.) JF RF
8.) Kotchman 1B
9.) Prado
I know BC will mot use the back up catcher.
7-0 with 2 runners & the starter running out of steam (pitch count-wise)
Booby better get up Moylen, Soriano, & Gonzo to put away this non-save opportunity win (Course with Moylen & Gonzo the game may become a save

Come On Booby – waste those relief pitchers so we won’t have them tomorrow night.
Pretty cool to see Hanson make adjustments when he doesn’t have his control or best stuff, and throw six innings of shut out ball. Look out for the days when this guy “has it”, because if the last two starts are what happens when he is off, it’s going to be pretty awesome to see him when he’s on.
I’ll be at the game Saturday as well. Hopefully they do better than when I just saw them at Baltimore Sunday…11-2 loss. Or else you can consider me a jinx and I won’t go to anymore games. If only that was the problem. Ha.

On this team, Matt Diaz is a starting left fielder. Until Frank Wren makes a move to get an above-average player for left field, Diaz needs to start.
