according to gameday, hes thrown 30 pitches and has nobody out in the 2nd?
no way he gets past the 5th…

Braves radio needs to have more attainable promotions. Something like th Home Depot Failed Bunt Attempt inning or the Sonic Strikeout with Runner in Scoring Position inning.

Heath, sometimes making consistent contact is a bad thing for Jeff, with the groundballs to the left side of the infield. but today he stroked that ball to right field for a hit in his first at-bat. that was a good sign right there….
Little wild today, huh?
Wow, Hanson pulling a Kris Medlen and walking the world.
Frank from KS
“Hanson looks good so far. scoreless first, he walked brandon phillips on a 3-2 breaking ball, but there are worse things. he’s a dangerous hitter ….oops right as i say that he walks Hanigan on four pitches to lead off the second.”
What part of “Hanson looks good so far” from Carroll, don’tcha understand?
3run dinger by the pitcher again?

I agree, i think we bash Frenchy when he dosen’t get hit when we want him to. He never hurt, makes contact, has cut down on his strikeouts, and has hit better the last couple of weeks. He is an “A” defensive player and has respected arm around the league. He is playing a lot better right now.
KJ to me has no upside, what he is now is just what he is. He needs to be a corner OF so that his impact is limited. A change of responsibility in the field may help his hitting.
Frenchy over his last 7 games: 9H 1DB 5RBI 2K batting .375
…Carroll…if memory serves me…hasn’t most of his hits been to the right side the past few days?
June 18th, 20091:54 pm
LOL, if this is looking good… I don’t want to know what looking bad is!!!!
BIG K…2 out
Not too crazy about Hanson’s telegraphic delivery either. He’s got this “here it is” pause that give the hitters a real good look at his release point.
Easy to tee off on that kind of delivery…..if it’s anywhere near the strikezone that is.
How many swings and misses has this kid gotten? Seems like everyone can hit this guy. He looked good for three innings. That’s about it.
did he walk the pitcher yet?
June 18th, 20091:55 pm
I could be wrong on JF’s hits..but it does seem he has been hitting more balls to the right side…
June 18th, 20091:56 pm
His next two starts are against the Yankees and Red Sox. Good luck Thomas Hanson.
I will say Frenchy is turning it around when he starts getting some extra base hits. Singles to right field are nice, but that is not why he is on the team.

Oh hey, my local radio just made the following announcement “Well that rain delay is over, we’ll join the braves and reds in progress shortly”
I was trying to imply the fact that you asked..”I thought Hanson was pitching…not Medlen?”.
Hanson is pitching (not Medlen) is the point I was trying to make.
Leaves ‘em loaded…good job.
Nice save Tommy.
WOO HOO!! Nice pitching Tommy!!
Way to get out of the jam Tommy!
LOL, nice job getting out of that. Of course he got himself into it, but nevertheless 1-0 Braves thru 2.
Way to leave ‘em loaded, Tommy!
Don’t present the board with any Frenchy facts. The fact that he hasn’t totally sucked over the last several games is just too much for them to handle.

Its encouraging to see Jeff getting some hits. Now, if he could start hitting it with some measure of authority, some power, I might be comforted somewhat.
But being an optimist, I hope it happens.
If our entire team hit to their capabilities, would they still be able to hit when it counts??? That is the real question.
Frenchy is playing good ball right now, just not translating as well because Chipper and B-Mac are struggling.
Time for Tommy’s first big-league hit.
June 18th, 20092:00 pm
Frank from KS – I was implying that Hanson caught whatever Medlen had when he lost all control and walked everyone who came up.
June 18th, 20092:01 pm
…or not… : )
June 18th, 20092:02 pm
Gotta crawl before you walk, literally!
Rather have singles with runners is scoring position then nothing ala Kelly Johnson last night!
June 18th, 20092:03 pm
Apparently McLouth CANNOT hit the high fastball.
Willy Taveras: 8 for his last 91.
Dusty Baker: “He’s in a slump?”
Bobby Cox: “Dude, even I would bench him.”
Buffalo NY Braves Fan
Ok, just got back from lunch…. and watching Tommy get out of that jam. I would appreciate a play by play of sorts… like end result of the at bats would be fine. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help out.
June 18th, 20092:04 pm
I’m wondering if we can temporarily suspend the Francoeur criticism for now. He is hitting the ball very well currently and just had a base hit with a runner in scoring position. He is batting above .250 and is hitting it to the opposite field. He isn’t great, but he certainly isn’t awful either.
We’ve seen this show before. Charlie Brown believes, Lucy moves the ball every time.
Oh okay. I misread (or misunderstood) your post.
Wayne in Utah:
Step-by-step….If JF could just learn to make consistent contact first…even if it turns out to be putting the ball in play instead of striking out (making productive outs instead of unproductive ones) and hitting singles instead of popping up from swinging for the fenses all the times…that would be a great first step.
Offense so far looks absolutely lifeless against a ROOKIE pitcher.
Esco with a nice swing, too bad he hit it to the deepest part of the ballpark.
BJKelly is far worse, but you don’t see the volume of articles or segments.
thats also wrong. kelly is not far worse. his batting average is lower, but his OPS is higher. also, kelly has good months and bad months, frenchy has had average months and bad months for the last year and a half.
June 18th, 20092:05 pm
Oh well, at least Esco won’t have to worry about getting the stink-eye after that deep out.
Good thing it didn’t go out!
Wayne….to finish my thought… He has been doing that more consistently for the past week or so and the numbers have shown that.
McClouth can’t hit anything right now, Esco just missed a solo shot by 4ft. He (Esco) is hitting the ball a ton right now.
I was kind of hoping Tommy getting out of that jam would pump up the offense a little bit. I guess I was wrong.
June 18th, 20092:06 pm
DAP…do you contend that Kelly plays better 2B than Jeff plays RF? This is not a loaded question…I just want to know.
June 18th, 20092:09 pm
People actually listen to music on their phone???
I’ll stick with my minidisc player thanks.
Good play by Chipper.. even though the runner was called safe.
heath no, i dont think so.
by the way, id rather jeff be striking out almost twice as much and slugging .450, personally. the old jeff was what he was, but at least he had decent power. jeff has suceeded in not King as much but it has sapped his power and results in weak choppers way to often.
June 18th, 20092:10 pm
Wow that wasn’t even close..and Bobby just sat on his fat @$$!!!!!!!!!!!
We may have gotten hosed on that call, Chipper with a nice scoop.
How many more blown calls? HOW MANY?
June 18th, 20092:11 pm
Bad call by an ump? I’m SHOCKED!
What happened on the play to Chipper? I’m on gametracker and it just said single to 3b.
Tommy with a pickoff, Wow!
“We’ve seen this show before. Charlie Brown believes, Lucy moves the ball every time.” – RHR
The preponderance of the evidence is on Frenchy’s side. He had a very good start to his career. He was very bad last year. He had a good first month this season; a horrible second month and is picking it up this month. His average is higher than McLouth’s and Kelly’s yet he takes the criticism.
I am not saying he is playing great, I am saying that the AJC and talk radio are racking up big numbers by manipulating this story and over covering it, yet you guys are buying in. Don’t let yourselves be manipulated. Frenchy isn’t the biggest problem.
However, I know, for this board, criticizing Frenchy has become fun sport rather than honest analysis.
Impressive baserunning by Phillips.
June 18th, 20092:12 pm
B.Phillips out at 3B on a pickoff
Some people do…but I think it’s just that Verizon is their sponsor…and that’s more of what they listen to on their I-Pod.
HOW MANY MORE BLOWN CALLS?!!! HOW MANY??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
phillips is still trying to do his best to get benched apparently
Hmm, the umpire is screwing us again. Oh well, what do you think they’ll have on the post-game buffet?
June 18th, 20092:13 pm
If Bobby can not even argue a call like that one, no wonder the team lacks fire.
June 18th, 20092:14 pm
Snagged by him…fell to his knees..got up and threw a one hopper…that hopped right in front of Casey’s glove that wasn’t bang bang…got there at least 2 steps before Phillips and Phillips was called safe….doesn’t matter since he got picked of going to third…but it led to a stolen base.
this guy Maloney is really fooling chipper. he’s 0-for-2 with 2Ks
carroll—what’s with the ily with an arrow along the firstbase line?
DAP…I agree with you that Kelly does not play better 2B than JF plays RF. In fact, I would say that Kelly is one of the worse defensive 2B in the league. The 2B is supposed to be a very good fielder, if nothing else, and he is WELL below average defensively an offensively. As much action as the 2B sees compared to the RF, I would say that defensively, it is more important to have a good 2B compared to a good RF since the 2B is involved in so many plays. As such, I would say that this year KJ is far more of a problem than JF.
June 18th, 20092:15 pm
I was just presenting the facts. No judgement from me. I have certainly complained about Frenchy here before so I am no Frenchy lover but…the numbers are better. I will say that it is still disappointing that he has only 1 extra base hit over that period and 1 walk…so I’m certainly not ready to pronounce him cured, not by a long shot. If he can maintain this over the next 2 weeks then he might be on to something.
June 18th, 20092:16 pm
The number of blown calls is rather disturbing. ML Umps are usually pretty good which is why blown calls are so frustrating. Plus, they seem to be mostly against us.

June 18th, 20092:17 pm
good question, semiballcoach. not sure. and Hal McCoy the legendary Reds beat writer doesn’t know anything about it either. I figured maybe the first base coach did that. who knows….
Diaz said he was going to rake, eh?
it just don’t stick in your mind when the umps miss onefor the braves
good job, Matty D. Solo shot!
You know..as bad as the Braves have been during their time in Cincy…if the scores hold up, they could actually gain ground on the Phillies…. Thank you, Jays. Your first wins against the NL this year could not have come at a better time. : )
Let’s see……Prado doubles and scores while Diaz homers. Why aren’t these guys playing more??
June 18th, 20092:18 pm
I am told that every Brave uses a Verizon Wireless V-Cast phone.
If this is not true, I don’t want to be a Braves fan anymore.
diaz with the poke
now the question is if this is all the run support we’re going to provide today or not
i was hoping it was a reds coach and maybe they love kotchenough to deal for him

June 18th, 20092:20 pm
Frenchy isn’t the biggest problem but he is a problem and even with his 2006-7 production he was barely passable as a corner OF. And BTW, taken in isolation, batting average doesn’t man much.
Prado has great at bats, walks and gets timely hits.
June 18th, 20092:22 pm
Wish they would have shown us the reaction in the dugout to Matty’s homer, so we could compare to last night and Esco. However, Chipper looks incredibly grumpy even after Diaz homer, and he has looked awful in his two at bats too. Perhaps he has been working so hard with the left handed swing, he has lost the right hand stroke all of a sudden.
JJ – Answer: Bobby Cox is the manager
Marteen should get all the starts in Boston this weekend, I don’t want to see Kelly anywhere near the lineup! Although Chipper maybe the DH for those games.
heathThe 2B is supposed to be a very good fielder, if nothing else, and he is WELL below average defensively an offensively.
THAT i disagree with. kelly is not well below average defensively, in fact, i think he is having his best year yet defensively, and has been getting better. offensively, yeah he has been pretty bad. but, i think kelly has turned into a pretty good defensive 2nd baseman. at least average.
Yeah, I know. I tried to present the facts last night when Frenchy was 1-2 and the board would have none of it. The truth is, he isn’t playing that poorly recently. In fact, his numbers are probably better than most of the team in the last 7 games.
June 18th, 20092:24 pm
did diaz just go yard?
Good AB for Frenchy currently even though he flied out
June 18th, 20092:25 pm
Who likes listening to “Rhythm and Blues” on his Verizon Wireless phone? Garret Anderson. I knew because he would be the only person that’s too lazy to list an actual song or artist. Truth is, he doesn’t care what he listens too. Rhythm and Blues is playing on his phone and he’s too lazy to hit any of the buttons that make it stop or change the song.
June 18th, 20092:26 pm
Wierd. I just got back from lunch with an old friend who now lives in SC and noticed that at 12:55, though I left my Ipod at home, and was at an old food joint without wi-fi, I was still able to post on the old blog.
Interesting, to say the least.
Well, I’m off to take my boys to guitar lessons, and then to baseball. So anything posted WILL NOT be me this afternoon.
Hanson appears to be solid. Which is good.
June 18th, 20092:29 pm
Funny as hell, GA is lazy a b@st@rd. I am tired of his “professional” singles. He will have the most uneventful 3,000 hits in MLB history.
I think we actually might be seeing Jeff come around. He’s played well in June. I’m just afraid that if we trade him, it’ll be one of these deals, like Jermaine Dye, that will just haunt the Braves.
But anyway, he’s working counts a bit more, and making solid contact. Good to see.
Brooklyn Braves Brawler He [stinks] defensively and he hits like a “Mary”.
June 18th, 20092:30 pm
Any notice that McLouth has the lowest batting avg. in the lineup today. Even Frenchy has a higher average.
