Braves radio needs to have more attainable promotions. Something like th Home Depot Failed Bunt Attempt inning or the Sonic Strikeout with Runner in Scoring Position inning.

Heath, sometimes making consistent contact is a bad thing for Jeff, with the groundballs to the left side of the infield. but today he stroked that ball to right field for a hit in his first at-bat. that was a good sign right there….

BJE-

I agree, i think we bash Frenchy when he dosen’t get hit when we want him to. He never hurt, makes contact, has cut down on his strikeouts, and has hit better the last couple of weeks. He is an “A” defensive player and has respected arm around the league. He is playing a lot better right now.

KJ to me has no upside, what he is now is just what he is. He needs to be a corner OF so that his impact is limited. A change of responsibility in the field may help his hitting.

Not too crazy about Hanson’s telegraphic delivery either. He’s got this “here it is” pause that give the hitters a real good look at his release point.

Easy to tee off on that kind of delivery…..if it’s anywhere near the strikezone that is.

Its encouraging to see Jeff getting some hits. Now, if he could start hitting it with some measure of authority, some power, I might be comforted somewhat.

But being an optimist, I hope it happens.

If our entire team hit to their capabilities, would they still be able to hit when it counts??? That is the real question.

I’m wondering if we can temporarily suspend the Francoeur criticism for now. He is hitting the ball very well currently and just had a base hit with a runner in scoring position. He is batting above .250 and is hitting it to the opposite field. He isn’t great, but he certainly isn’t awful either.

Step-by-step….If JF could just learn to make consistent contact first…even if it turns out to be putting the ball in play instead of striking out (making productive outs instead of unproductive ones) and hitting singles instead of popping up from swinging for the fenses all the times…that would be a great first step.

“We’ve seen this show before. Charlie Brown believes, Lucy moves the ball every time.” – RHR

The preponderance of the evidence is on Frenchy’s side. He had a very good start to his career. He was very bad last year. He had a good first month this season; a horrible second month and is picking it up this month. His average is higher than McLouth’s and Kelly’s yet he takes the criticism.

I am not saying he is playing great, I am saying that the AJC and talk radio are racking up big numbers by manipulating this story and over covering it, yet you guys are buying in. Don’t let yourselves be manipulated. Frenchy isn’t the biggest problem.

However, I know, for this board, criticizing Frenchy has become fun sport rather than honest analysis.

DAP…I agree with you that Kelly does not play better 2B than JF plays RF. In fact, I would say that Kelly is one of the worse defensive 2B in the league. The 2B is supposed to be a very good fielder, if nothing else, and he is WELL below average defensively an offensively. As much action as the 2B sees compared to the RF, I would say that defensively, it is more important to have a good 2B compared to a good RF since the 2B is involved in so many plays. As such, I would say that this year KJ is far more of a problem than JF.

AndyC

I was just presenting the facts. No judgement from me. I have certainly complained about Frenchy here before so I am no Frenchy lover but…the numbers are better. I will say that it is still disappointing that he has only 1 extra base hit over that period and 1 walk…so I’m certainly not ready to pronounce him cured, not by a long shot. If he can maintain this over the next 2 weeks then he might be on to something.

Frenchy isn’t the biggest problem but he is a problem and even with his 2006-7 production he was barely passable as a corner OF. And BTW, taken in isolation, batting average doesn’t man much.

Wish they would have shown us the reaction in the dugout to Matty’s homer, so we could compare to last night and Esco. However, Chipper looks incredibly grumpy even after Diaz homer, and he has looked awful in his two at bats too.
