Frank, Albany is located on the Hudson River, with its main tributary, the Mohawk, separating it from Saratoga county to the north. We are surrounded by mountains. There are several bodies of water, which have almost every variety of fresh water fish you can imagine. If you don’t want to go to the ocean, the stripers, shad and other salt water fish spawn in the Hudson. Just to the north, is Lake Champlain. It has the biggest variety of species, of any lake in the WORLD. If you like to fish, this is one hell of a place to be!
Never seen (or heard of) an ocean trout (not saying you are wrong, just that I never knew) but even so, probably 99% of all trout is freshwate (CBF)
hey I am NEVER wrong.
Actually I was being snarky and trying to start trouble even while denying same. The sea trout is a close relative to the brown trout;it is born in fresh water, moves to the sea and returns to fresh water to spawn. Salmon is in the trout family too.

I got to go fishing in the Gulf Of Mexico when I was 10 back in 1985. My granddad had a brother and his wife (my aunt & uncle) who lived down in Houston, Texas and we went down and stayed a week with them. My uncle took us out fishing a couple of days on the Gulf. We caught flounder, trout, red fish. Can’t remember what all else. That’ll be a memory I’ll have for the rest of my life.

“nolie, AND I never saw your thoughts on the Minor pick. It’d be great to know what you thought about it. I didn’t like it. (EFRIM)”
“I wrote a couple posts on it. I wasn’t thrilled. Guys like us who are into that want an exciting high potential draftee obviously. They went cheapish, but maybe safe. Just not the upside you would want from a #7 pick. However since the odds are so long even on first-rounders, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.”
You posted this a few times, and while I was away, listening to XM Radio, Kevin Goldstein, of “Baseball Prospectus”, was interviewed. After the first round, in his opinion, the worst pick was Minor. He couldn’t understand why the Braves would make him their 1st pick. He said that the Braves had their best pick since 1991, why did they choose this guy?
Sorry RG. I thought ya might been like a few girls I went to school with during my elementary/middle school years, especially middle school or like a bunch of those girls in those VH-1 *I LOVE THE 80’s* specials from concert clips, etc.
A bunch of girls I went to school with were huge Michaels fans.
You guys are a trip. I’ve been reading the blog. Some personal troubles… it’s sweet to see you asking about me.
I post sometimes under other names, but I feel very unfunny and obnoxious anymore. But I wanted to throw in a hello. Thanks for missing me. Seriously, it helps in troubled times. Blessings.
Brett Micheal’s what a douche. I saw where he was almost knocked out by that prop at the Tony awards that was a great video. That whole band was nothing but douche bags.
I saw it, Richbrave. I give Bradley an E for effort (he’s been posting like a man posessed) but replacing the greatest manager of the modern era with…Jose Oquendo?!
Doesn’t make sense to me.
By all means, Richbrave, let’s get that Marvin Williams for McGhee and Butler sign-and-trade finalized!
He said that the Braves had their best pick since 1991, why did they choose this guy? (TOM O)
money. he’s gonna be cheaper than any of the others they could have picked, and he’s kinda safe in that he will likely at least get to the show even though he has little upside compared to others . There is no question in my mind but that money is very tight. It’s been shown a number of ways this season and last winter/spring.
So Magglio Ordonez has apparently been “indefinetely” taken out of the Tigers lineup. The guy hasn’t been hitting like Magglio can but maybe he just needs a change of scenery. How about seeing if they have any interest in Frenchy, as long as they eat most of Magglios salary..
I wish, Ritchie. But it seems like too much of a “lose-lose” situation for the Tigers. Take Frenchy (who stinks) and pay to get rid of Maggs? I dont see it happening. They might as well just keep him on the bench.
I just read the article on Andruw Jones revival in Texas. I guess he FINALLY realized that “Fat, Indifferent and Stubborn” is no way to go through a baseball career.
I believe the Braves should send Kelly Johnson to AAA to help figure things out without the pressure of the Major Leagues. I am not bashing Kelly. Roy Halladay was sent all the way back to A ball to figure out his delivery. Kelly’s approach is drastically different. If we had a smart manager Martin Prado would be the second baseman while he is hot. I think Kelly can be a good player, but he needs to figure things out soon. We need to stop babying these players. Cleveland sent down Carmona.
Frank Wren didn’t plan on dumping Tom Glavine because we all now know, the McLouth trade came together in less than 48 hours. The Braves brain trust made a snap decision. Save the money from Glavine’s roster bonus and use it to pay the pro rated portion of Nate McLouth’s remaining salary for 2009.
The other reasons for drafting Mike Minor is one: Because he could be available to pitch in Atlanta as soon as 2010. Also, Glavine and Morton are gone. Jo-Jo Reyes is out of options after this year and all but history. Somebody (probably Vasquez) will have to be traded when Tim Hudson returns. Kris Medlen isn’t a big league starter but he is valuable out in the bullpen. Parr, Campillo and Carlyle will never be anything more than emergency starters.
Simply put, all or most of the precious pitching depth is gone or soon will be. This is why Mike Minor makes sense for more reasons than just finances.
Mark Bradley’s article had a good view of this team and what everyone including Bobby has asked. Can they be coached? they have all the pieces but they only fit in place every 4 days. I think the brain trust has seen this coming a while and a new fresh breed of younger players are coming. Look at our drafting, look at the AAA ,Even better look at next years team at spring training. This year is a toss up,next year we see more rebulding, 2011 is the big year.
Number of former Braves STARTING for the Red Sox… three, Nick Green, Mark Kotsay and J.D. Drew. I get NESN on satellite and watch the Sox play there, as they are my favorite AL team, all the time.
Coach, you know what is gonna suck? Fast-Forward 3-5 years. There will be a few guys who will be studs in the Bigs that the Braves could have had with their pick.
The Braves dont need a $200 mil payroll. They just need more flexibility.
You are 100% correct on why they picked him. I really hope that Minor turns out to be great, but I can see this one stinging later on down the road.
“The other reasons for drafting Mike Minor is one: Because he could be available to pitch in Atlanta as soon as 2010.”
Coach, I’m not saying you’re wrong, but if that’s the case, it’s a stupid decision by the Braves. Never draft for need, especially at pick #7….in baseball.
Drafting Minor was 100% financially motivated. The fact that he could be close to
ready at some point in 2010 is a bonus. I have a feeling they’ll start him at one of the single-A teams this year and at AA in 2010. And let him show them when he needs to be with the big club.
Chipper Q and A with foxsports.com link http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9700054/Q-and-A-with-Braves-slugger-Chipper-Jones . He pretty much blasts the entire team except the pitching. He says “Our pitching this year has been outstanding. Don’t get me wrong. It’s been other facets of the game that have faltered — defensive execution or offensive execution. It just hasn’t been the same.
FOXSports.com: Can that be fixed in the middle of the season?
Jones: Yeah, anything can be fixed if players want to fix it. That’s what we all still hold out hope for, that baseball becomes the No. 1 priority for these guys and they care about going out and executing day in and day out, doing the little things it takes to win a big-league ballgame.”
Wow baseball, no wait, your JOB is not priority one for these guys. Hmm.. I wonder who he is talking about.
OK that tears it…I abandon the site for a day…come back and all I see is page after page after page, and post after post after post..of music crap. Dave, why don’t you put in with the powers down there to give you a blog over in Entertainment – or whatever they call that category of subject matter these days – so that the ‘die-hards’ as one of the earlier posters called us, can talk BASEBALL and the BRAVES? After all, that is what the hell this thing is about, ain’t it? You go off on tangents because you’re bored with what you’re being paid to do – namely to come up with stuff that devotees to the site (Braves baseball) just might be interested in – so why not convince Jim Kennedy that what you need is two sites to attract readers and double your money?
You’re worse than Joe and Boog in the booth…those guys seemingly look for other things to talk about – perhaps so they won’t have to think about the sorry-ass team they’re looking at on the field – only they miss half, or more, of what most of us are watching the game for in the first place – what’s happening and why, whose producing and whose not. Yesterday they went off of the duck’s question about something entirely meaningless (used to be in-game trivia questions had to do with players – past or present – that were connected to that particular game, or one or other of the teams or whose daughter had sung the National Anthem or something) now they just come up with stuff that even after you have the answer, it’s a big ’so what?” This time it got Joe off on Vada Pinson (great ball player, but hardly why we were watching yesterday) while Chipper was being ‘jobbed’ by the home plate ump with two calls off the plate outside, then had to swing at a third FB even further off the plate in order to keep from getting called out on three pitches…and all they could do later in the game is say he had swung weakly just so he wouldn’t strike out again…and further failed to note that the damn ump in question had been giving Maloney that back-door pitch the entire game (none of which ever caught the plate) and then called Prado out on one just as far inside as the others were outside…and then, finally, all they could conjure up late was that the ump had ‘expanded his strike zone’ – if they’d been paying attention instead of playing grab-ass all game they would have been able to add something that baseball fans would have been interested in – instead of just what they wanted to talk about. Thank goodness they don’t like music that much or we’d have to put up with that there too.
Morning, bloggers and Braves legions. Lets get some momentum going tonight. Won’t be watching the game, though, as I’m going to see Bad Company at Chastain tonight. Don’t think I’ll get another chance to see Bad Co with Paul Rogers, so it’s not one to miss
And Wayne, I agree about most of the girly man country singers today. There’s only a couple out of the hundreds that I find remotely interesting. Jamie Johnson and Randy Houser are pretty good and not so darn feminine.
Magglio Ordonez for Frenchy? He just got benched “indefinitely.” Would have to make the money work, but is there anything to lose from either side’s perspective?
DirtyDawg-Why should DOB continually blog about how pitiful the Braves are (and not to mention he has been off for the last several days) when people like you pummell us continually with the same old, sorry posts day after day, night after night about how bad the Braves are. If they’re that bad and you are so upset, maybe a new hobby is in line-like getting a real life. If you don’t like music, that’s your problem-just don’t read about it. Maybe you’d prefer blogging about boks like we were earlier in the week.
The real sad thing about the Braves is not only is this team bad but the play- by- play guys(I don’t even know their names) are equally as bad. They sound like Fox News Channel wannabees. The Braves of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s had Milo, Ernie Sr. John Sterling, Sutton, Skip, Pete and even Billy Samples. These guys were fun, witty, and knew baseball and how to link the game with what was going on at the present time. However, you have to give the present guys some slack as it is hard to be positive for three hours when broadcasting the Braves games. They have to this every day. Yikes!!!!! Thank god for Tiger and the Golf Channel.
It was from 0100 to like 0400. There were something like 5 people on the ole Blog here. I dont see what the big deal is. 95% of the time its baseball talk. So what if people want to take a break from the Braves’ suckage and actually talk about something fun for a bit.
Are you tryin to tell me you have read all 1179 posts verbatim? Day in and day out? It sounds like there is more going on than a hatred for musical blogging.
Geez. People act like there is no such thing as a mouse wheel or a scroll bar.
that was a good q n a with chipper. very interesting. he kinda contradicts himself a few times, probably trying no to say too much, but i wonder too who they guys are that arent cutting it.
Complaints about blog content are only made by those who never contribute blog content.
Those who want others to only talk baseball are always as inept in talking about baseball as they are in talking about things other than baseball.
Instead of complaining about the conversation on a blog, especially complaints about the conversation not being strictly baseball, one should just make conversation and talk baseball themselves.
This, of course, would require one to have the ability to make friends, start a conversation, and know enough about baseball to conversate about it in a way that engages others to conversate about baseball.
DirtyDawg, how in the world does people talking about stuff you’re not interested in prevent you from talking about stuff you do care about? I never really understood why people get so mad about having the blog not do exactly what they want it to do.
The Georgia Theater on fire? That kinda breaks my heart.
I didn’t abandon the facebook group, Roman Gal! My son doesn’t have a facebook account so I had him use his email address and make a dummy account to take over the administrative ownership so it wouldn’t have my name and pic up there because some weirdo was sending me creepy messages. I mean, my name and pic is in the fans list or whatever but it’s not like RIGHT THERE for everyone who clicks on the group to see, that’s all.
Number of former Braves STARTING for the Red Sox… three, Nick Green, Mark Kotsay and J.D. Drew.
But would you really want any of them back? Nick Green = Kelly Johnson, Mark Kotsay = Garret Anderson, and J.D. Drew = Jeff Francoeur, no?
How about the Marlins won after the game was called in Boston after 6 innings last night, the Nat’inals have taken a series from the Yankees, the Orioles have taken a series from the Mets, and the Blue Jays have taken a series from the Phillies.
siskel_god, we talked about that Chipper interview last night, read back a few pages for DOB’s comments on it. I don’t think anyone has rolled their eyes at Chipper at the one meeting he called, he just said he doesn’t want that so he’s not going to call meetings and tell these grown men the same thing over and over again.
I hate that I missed the whats on your ipod discussion, I only use my ipod for running so I probably have the most eclectic mix of songs ever. Oh well, one less music post for poor wittle DirtyDawg to have to suffer through.
Hey, ‘Tell it…’, thank you for picking up on my point. It wasn’t really so much Dave’s music as it was the Braves announcers, that set me off. But, please don’t put Milo and John Sterling in there as announcers that we look back on with fond memories. Those two were the slime-balls of the first order – even if they’re still working.
If you don’t like what some people are talking about on the blog then don’t read their posts. You gotta know that when the “night crew” takes over they often don’t talk baseball. I normally just skip it (no offense intended to the night crew). Like DOB says at the top of this page:
We talk Braves, baseball in general, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever else (except politics).
Mama, There Goes That Man … To Minnesota
“Multiple sources have told Pro Basketball News that Mark Jackson has emerged as the leading candidate for the Timberwolves position and will wind up with his first coaching gig.” Some would call this a grown-man move.
But…if he takes a coaching job, no more broadcasting!
So can we now pencil Kawakami in the 5 slot? I don’t want Hanson missing any starts because of an off day. And I have tickets to games next week on Tuesday (Yankees) and Sunday (Red Sox). Since the Braves have no off days, as long as a game isn’t postponed due to weather, I should be seeing Hanson pitch in both those games. Sweet.
Just wanted to give props to N8 for mentioning the great Ty Tabor from the even greater King’s X. That band should’ve been huge… – Daslied
Dang, I must have missed that post by N8.
Ty Tabor is one of my favorite “modern day” players. Tone of the Gods!
King’s X = also one of my faves. They’re bigger than you think too. Huge musician/cult following.

For a country song to be true country (not these girly man country singers of today), it’s gotta have a catchy line.

Sorry RG. I thought ya might been like a few girls I went to school with during my elementary/middle school years, especially middle school or like a bunch of those girls in those VH-1 *I LOVE THE 80’s* specials from concert clips, etc.
A bunch of girls I went to school with were huge Michaels fans.

money. he’s gonna be cheaper than any of the others they could have picked, and he’s kinda safe in that he will likely at least get to the show even though he has little upside compared to others .

It would be great, though….

Nolie, you are correct. money is tight.

The Braves dont need a $200 mil payroll. They just need more flexibility.
