Guess I can go finish the lawn while we’re in a delay.

June 18th, 200912:42 pm
Think I’ll hang out then!
Thanks for the blog Carroll.
They just announced 1:10 p.m. start time and the tarp is coming off……most excellent!
June 18th, 200912:43 pm
at least hanson’s pitching. something to look fwd to
After looking at ESPN, and FOX for something unrelated to baseball”
Ok I sick and tired of seeing this stuff about not facing Smoltz….that’s NEXT WEEK. They need o be thinking about this week. It’s not like they are on a 10 game winning streak and want it haulted by Smoltz!!!
June 18th, 200912:45 pm
1:10 start not-a so bad
June 18th, 200912:47 pm
Oh and I know Chipper is trying to be positive…but a team that can only get it in gear against good teams does NOT deserve to win…IMO….you have to beat who your suppose to beat…and if you can’t beat them you still need to play them just as hard and do things right.
No one would be mad if the Braves tried to squeeze last night and it didn’t work, with kelly OR Javy….no one would be mad if Jeff and Kelly didn’t leave a whole baseball team on base tuesday night…
Chuck James was Solid Until the 6th!!!

I didn’t want to pound down Prozac to handle all the post-game depression from the last blog. But the way this road trip has opened, I wonder if the Braves brain trust is going to wait until the All-Star break to decide if they want to be buyers or sellers. It’s one thing to deal away a diminishing number of prospects to add a bat if you legitimately have a chance to win (even the wild card) this year.
But if the team falls 8-10 games out of the division lead and trails 8-10 teams in the wild card race in early July, perhaps it’s time to seriously look at 2010.
I know I was saying exactly the opposite when the McLouth deal was made, but the club has only headed south since then. And as Steve from OH and others have noted, we’re starting to run out of position players in the minors who can provide the depth this team will some day need.
If we sell, I can see Vazquez and Soriano dealt for prospects. Maybe Ross or Kotchman, too. Kelly and Franceour are at this point throw-ins as part of larger trades.
Unless Wren can get a steal in the trade market, there’s a legitimate chance that the Braves could mortgage the future and not see any benefits in the present, either.
OK, that’s my bowl of sad for the day.
June 18th, 200912:53 pm
Oh well, just delaying another Braves loss by 30 minutes to an hour.. They look hopeless these days, so its no fun to watch them anyways..
June 18th, 200912:54 pm
I usually shy away from the line up thing, but why not try this one against the lefty:
Tommy Gunn P
June 18th, 200912:55 pm
Chuck James…are you channeling Trent Reznor?
why not just bat frenchy ninth? Larussa would.
June 18th, 200912:57 pm
Diaz to go off today
June 18th, 200912:58 pm
Could we get the Braves to play a game in South Georgia? We really need the rain. Still do.
Buffalo NY Braves Fan
June 18th, 200912:59 pm
Larussa would bat Frenchy as a pinch hitter, after he runs out of releivers and guys from the pro shop.
That’s the problem….Bobby won’t.
June 18th, 20091:00 pm
How many people would bet their house every time people see the Spolight: Frenchy they wish the guy would’ve went to Clemson…
I bet he’s the only 1st round pick in a long time to be playing contract to contract…lol
The Braves didn’t strike out last night and still lost? That’s trying to take a girl home from a bar and getting stranded with a flat tire on the way back. Not even a sloppy make out session will make things better…
I would like to see a Hanson/Joba Chamberlain pitching matchup, but I think Hanson is going to miss the Yankees.
June 18th, 20091:01 pm
As a “form of punishment” we are forced to watch the Jeff in the spotlight piece yet again! Like watching this team the last 10 days or so isn’t bad enough.
What difference does it make what our pitchers do? We have the offense of a high school team. I’m out for the season, maybe I’ll follow Tampa Bay, they don’t have any fans, so I can get in on the ground floor.
June 18th, 20091:02 pm
I was looking forward to a couple hours of Carroll dazzling and entertaining us, but for the sake of her flight and, to a lesser degree Atlanta Braves baseball, I say PLAY BALL
June 18th, 20091:03 pm
THanks for the new Blog/game update, Ms. Rogers.
They’re seriously showing Spotlight: Jeff Francoeur? Dangit…Thank goodness the Hallmark Channel shows I Love Lucy at this time…
June 18th, 20091:04 pm
I would have Ross hitting 4th today, Diaz 7, and CK 8.
June 18th, 20091:06 pm
Carol, you are fighting at 8 PM?
June 18th, 20091:07 pm
Did this Matt Maloney convert from basketball? Former starting point guard for the Houston Rockets during the Barkley, Drexler, Hakeem era?
June 18th, 20091:08 pm
game’s on..like it matters…lol
June 18th, 20091:09 pm
Chipper just sits there like a frickin Wax dummy….I know it’s his thing but sheesh…these guys need to loosen up.
Chipper looks grouchy. Musta not slept good or
June 18th, 20091:10 pm
Chipper Jones wouldn’t go that far, saying it was a shot for the Braves to test themselves against some of the best pitching in the game. – CR
Um, Chipper, your team has faced some of the worst and mediocre pitching in the game and failed so how do you think you are going to do against the best pitching?
No Ibanez, No Lidge, no Problem, That is what champions do
bravos2249, HAHA, the internet is awesome, ain’t it? We pick up on everything and post it.
June 18th, 20091:11 pm
call it..another loss. how many runs do we think braves will score today? 2-4 runs?
June 18th, 20091:13 pm
the dugout last night looked pathetic after Yunel’s HR. lots of comments made about it. our team has zero personality.

June 18th, 20091:15 pm
What happened to my MLB Audio? Anybody else having issues?
Wait…you tv people have the game now and I still have Rush?!
June 18th, 20091:16 pm
Maybe Chipper should take all these guys out to Hooters after the game. They need to loosen up a bit, and act like friends.
June 18th, 20091:17 pm
great 1rst inning..this will set the tone for the rest of the game.
Rush might be better this afternoon!
jeffrey d (JD)
The Portland Trailblazers hold the sports record for most consecutive sellouts? How many people did their arena hold? 10?
What is the Turner Field record for consecutive sellouts? 3,4 games maybe(not trying to be a smata$$)?
You are in AL, right? I am listening on WXSM…not sure where in AL that is located but…
June 18th, 20091:18 pm
Free Audio: http://www.broadcastradiostream.com/WFIS.asx
This team can’t seem to score first innings runnings and help the starting pitcher out.
pete- i would say the first month of turner field opening was probably it.
June 18th, 20091:19 pm
Oh, I understand…Hanigan cann still play…
That was an ugly swing by Chipper, BTW.
June 18th, 20091:21 pm
“No Ibanez, No Lidge, no Problem, That is what champions do”
You’re probably right. Which is kind of scary.
I’ll let DOB take the South Georgia swing….aha.
I can’t listen online because our IT people apparently don’t want us wasting bandwidth on such things so I have to listen to a local station on a real radio, and local station always has the braves day games instead of Rush. Except today.
June 18th, 20091:23 pm
concerning sellouts- what about football? both college and pro. i would say Packers hold the record..you have to wait 30 years if your lucky to get season tickets.
RHR – LOL you can’t listen online, but you can listen to the real radio and blog. Lol, funny.
Steve in NC
June 18th, 20091:24 pm
GAMEDAY live gametracker on MLB.COM is the WORST! It still says it’s a 2-2 count on Chipper with 2 outs, meanwhile the little scoreboard at the top is already updated. It finally catches up with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning. Some “live gametracker” this turns out to be.
Nova Scotia Steve
June 18th, 20091:25 pm
Man Poor Vazquez…3-run homer by the Reds pitcher yesterday…tough loss…ya know things are going bad when ya know!
the dugout last night looked pathetic after Yunel’s HR. lots of comments made about it. our team has zero personality. – MiltonDawg
Kinda glad I missed that “celebration.”
Kinda says it all about this team’s chemistry.
June 18th, 20091:26 pm
Gets ahead 1-2 then 3 straight curves for balls? Hmm, might want to throw something for a strike?
June 18th, 20091:27 pm
MFin, I know, right?
I’m about to call the radio station lol they don’t want none of me today.
June 18th, 20091:29 pm
Mixxo, yeah it was pathetic. It looked as if the players were only standing up to offer high-fives out of habit, not because they were pumped for Esco’s homer at all.
I knew it! Boog was a catcher at some point! He said he’d have a hard time wearing the hockey-style mask–too claustrophobic…
June 18th, 20091:30 pm
Thanks for the link.
June 18th, 20091:32 pm
These radio announcers suck. You can’t tell what is going on in the game. Prado doubles and it sounds like he struck out. They need a lot of work on their announcing.
How come Bobby doesn’t play KJ against Lefties? Does he not know that he hits lefties better than righties and is hitting over .300?
June 18th, 20091:33 pm
Mixxo- yeah, looked uncomfortable in there. the team has lost all passion for the game. the proverbial “white towel” may have already been tossed by the players.
June 18th, 2009
No Ibanez, No Lidge, no Problem, That is what champions do
Funny…coming from a fan of a team that has lost 7 of 10 games and also lost 4 of 6 against the Braves this year.
June 18th, 20091:34 pm
500 consecutive sell-outs! Wow! Hard to imagine all 73 seats at Fenway get purchased for every home game.
June 18th, 20091:35 pm
I think Prado should be our everyday 2B right now. He is far worse of a player than JF…less offensive potential and way worse defensively.
OR Prado should be getting plenty of time at 2b because Johnson sucks! Just like Diaz should be getting time in RF because Francoeur sucks!
Yes, he did just get a hit, but where’s the power at? Oh yeah, it’s never coming back w/ the way he’s leaning on his front foot and just simply using his hands!
Oh, and once again can I state just how much I absolutely HATE McCann sitting every single day game after a night game…I know they are trying to keep him fresh, BUT sitting him in day games like we have on multiple occasions when we’ve had days off the next day is just plain stupid!
…It looked as if the players were only standing up to offer high-fives out of habit, not because they were pumped for Esco’s homer at all. – CLE
Wow! Sad indeed. Is he really that hated on this team? Sure, he’s made some boneheaded plays, but w/o his bat, we’d be in even worse shape than we’re in.
You’d think this floundering team would be excited after a jack. I dunno.
Brooklyn Braves Brawler
June 18th, 20091:36 pm
At some point a team is going to have try Micah Owings in the field, the guy hits a ton.
Kelly Johnson dosen’t get the run home from 3rd with no outs. just terrible. We rip Yuni justly, but KJ should get the same treatment. At least Yuni has talent and cares, I think KJ is just horrible. He sucks defensively and he hits like a “Mary”. Nate, Chipper, and B-Mac have to step up or they should make the All-star break a permanent vacation.
KJ just plain sucks, at least Frenchy is showing some signs
June 18th, 20091:37 pm
What’s goin on? at work.. hows hanson look
A point! Woo!
Nice job there Casey Kotchman!!!!
I think Frenchy is starting to come around. Last several games he’s been swinging a lot better. Kelly needs to be benched in favor of Prado for a while. Give me some hungry players that are tough-nosed and I think we’ll see better results…
I’m wondering if we can temporarily suspend the Francoeur criticism for now. He is hitting the ball very well currently and just had a base hit with a runner in scoring position. He is batting above .250 and is hitting it to the opposite field. He isn’t great, but he certainly isn’t awful either.
June 18th, 20091:39 pm
I am, however, guessing that stopping the Frenchy criticism would take a lot of the fun out of these boards. At this point, it is pure sport. He just stole a base as well. He is 4 of 5 ins stolen bases too.
Someone won the stolen base inning!!!!!
Guy won $3,000 in gas cards!!!!!
Gameday is a “little” ahead of our radio announcers.
i was thinking about the fact that frenchy is #3 on the team in RBIs…how crazy is that? if kotchman and mccann hadnt missed 2 weeks each, they would be ahead of him…which prompts another thought….
kotchman has missed time, chipper has, mccann has, infante is out…why is our wosrt player over the last two years also our most durable? frenchy has never been injured, as far as i can remember, dangit. thats bad luck.
June 18th, 20091:40 pm
Is it me or is Frenchy playing better in the field, at the plate, and on the bases? Kelly on the other hand has “Frenchy2008-itis”…
wow stolen base?
June 18th, 20091:41 pm
LuisG – if you restart the audio and hit play at the bottom of the screen….on the audio bar…you can get the audio “ahead” of the gameday.
June 18th, 20091:42 pm
bobby pointed out this morning that that bunt last night by Owings was his first of the season…..Boy, that’s when you know a pitcher doesn’t hit like a pitcher.
Where do I bring the hate today? KJis benched,Loaf is benched and Francoer is hitting a lot better-so I can’t bash him. I feel like a kid lost at a mall
June 18th, 20091:43 pm
BJEHe isn’t great, but he certainly isn’t awful either.
wrong. he is awful. he hasnt been quite as awful this month, but he still has been awful.
Frenchy is playing well, jsut so happens that B-Mac, McClouth and Chipper are slumping. Pradi is a spark plug, my favorite player on the team right now!
HUH? If your talking about Ibanez..the story wasn’t posted til 12:10…that was just a bit before I posted
June 18th, 20091:44 pm
Does Sutton usually do the play by play on radio?
Hanson looks good so far. scoreless first, he walked brandon phillips on a 3-2 breaking ball, but there are worse things. he’s a dangerous hitter ….oops right as i say that he walks Hanigan on four pitches to lead off the second
It is a small sample, but…here is Jeff’s most recent performances coming into today:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
6 23 0 8 1 0 0 5 1 2 1 0 .348 .375 .391 .766
And, today, start 1-1 with a SB
Not a lot of power, but making consistent contact is the first step. Now, I’m not going to the casino to bet any money that he’ll be putting up big numbers the rest of the season or anything, but I will temporarily suspend my negativity towards JF and focus it squarely on KJ… Sorry Kelly : )
June 18th, 20091:45 pm
Would Micah Owings be an every day outfielder for the Braves?
Lead off walks are never good!
June 18th, 20091:46 pm
Jukeandjive is right. Frenchy is playing better.
However, the AJC realizes that “Trade Frenchy” columns and articles about his struggles get web hits and drive advertising. That is why we ALWAYS see these articles.
The same is true for talk radio. Kelly is far worse, but you don’t see the volume of articles or segments. We are being led around like a bunch of sheep. If you actually look at the numbers, Frenchy has made some improvement from a year ago and is swinging a hot bat. This is a nightmare for those “selling” his struggles. Try to actually think a little people.
MFin – yes. resoundingly yes
June 18th, 20091:47 pm
Think he (Owings) has more HR’s than the Brave OF right now.
I thought Hanson was pitching…not Medlen?
Frank from KS
As N8 more or less said last night on the last blog..
Francoeur is the Braves version of Terrell *It’s all about me” Owens.
Time to move on. In-fact, past time IMHO.
I have been very harsh toward Frenchy, Loaf, and KJ. I would be more than happy to see Frenchy return to the skill set that he showed in his first two years, and the last few days he seems to be playing a bit better, but I wish he was not always the guy coming to the plate with the bases loaded. Can we figure out a spot in the order where this would not always seem to happen. As for Loaf, get rid of him. And then put KJ in left and tell him he has to produce. Then Diaz can play left or right depending on whether Frenchy or KJ is hot. Prado and Infante are both much much better than KJ or Frenchy.
“Here’s the 0-1… changeup in for a strike, 1-1″. I guess Mr. Sutton is a little lost.
June 18th, 20091:48 pm
“….oops right as i say that he walks Hanigan on four pitches to lead off the second”
And Bruce. Yikes!
