Ok I sick and tired of seeing this stuff about not facing Smoltz….that’s NEXT WEEK. They need o be thinking about this week. It’s not like they are on a 10 game winning streak and want it haulted by Smoltz!!!

Oh and I know Chipper is trying to be positive…but a team that can only get it in gear against good teams does NOT deserve to win…IMO….you have to beat who your suppose to beat…and if you can’t beat them you still need to play them just as hard and do things right.

No one would be mad if the Braves tried to squeeze last night and it didn’t work, with kelly OR Javy….no one would be mad if Jeff and Kelly didn’t leave a whole baseball team on base tuesday night…

I didn’t want to pound down Prozac to handle all the post-game depression from the last blog. But the way this road trip has opened, I wonder if the Braves brain trust is going to wait until the All-Star break to decide if they want to be buyers or sellers. It’s one thing to deal away a diminishing number of prospects to add a bat if you legitimately have a chance to win (even the wild card) this year.

But if the team falls 8-10 games out of the division lead and trails 8-10 teams in the wild card race in early July, perhaps it’s time to seriously look at 2010.

I know I was saying exactly the opposite when the McLouth deal was made, but the club has only headed south since then. And as Steve from OH and others have noted, we’re starting to run out of position players in the minors who can provide the depth this team will some day need.

If we sell, I can see Vazquez and Soriano dealt for prospects. Maybe Ross or Kotchman, too. Kelly and Franceour are at this point throw-ins as part of larger trades.

Unless Wren can get a steal in the trade market, there’s a legitimate chance that the Braves could mortgage the future and not see any benefits in the present, either.

OK, that’s my bowl of sad for the day.

GAMEDAY live gametracker on MLB.COM is the WORST! It still says it’s a 2-2 count on Chipper with 2 outs, meanwhile the little scoreboard at the top is already updated. It finally catches up with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning. Some “live gametracker” this turns out to be.

Gosh Joe…

OR Prado should be getting plenty of time at 2b because Johnson sucks! Just like Diaz should be getting time in RF because Francoeur sucks!

Yes, he did just get a hit, but where’s the power at? Oh yeah, it’s never coming back w/ the way he’s leaning on his front foot and just simply using his hands!

Oh, and once again can I state just how much I absolutely HATE McCann sitting every single day game after a night game…I know they are trying to keep him fresh, BUT sitting him in day games like we have on multiple occasions when we’ve had days off the next day is just plain stupid!

BTW

Kelly Johnson dosen’t get the run home from 3rd with no outs. just terrible. We rip Yuni justly, but KJ should get the same treatment. At least Yuni has talent and cares, I think KJ is just horrible. He sucks defensively and he hits like a “Mary”. Nate, Chipper, and B-Mac have to step up or they should make the All-star break a permanent vacation.

BJE

I’m wondering if we can temporarily suspend the Francoeur criticism for now. He is hitting the ball very well currently and just had a base hit with a runner in scoring position. He is batting above .250 and is hitting it to the opposite field. He isn’t great, but he certainly isn’t awful either.

BJE

It is a small sample, but…here is Jeff’s most recent performances coming into today:

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
6 23 0 8 1 0 0 5 1 2 1 0 .348 .375 .391 .766

And, today, start 1-1 with a SB

Not a lot of power, but making consistent contact is the first step. Now, I’m not going to the casino to bet any money that he’ll be putting up big numbers the rest of the season or anything, but I will temporarily suspend my negativity towards JF and focus it squarely on KJ… Sorry Kelly : )

Jukeandjive is right. Frenchy is playing better.

However, the AJC realizes that “Trade Frenchy” columns and articles about his struggles get web hits and drive advertising. That is why we ALWAYS see these articles.

The same is true for talk radio. Kelly is far worse, but you don’t see the volume of articles or segments. We are being led around like a bunch of sheep. If you actually look at the numbers, Frenchy has made some improvement from a year ago and is swinging a hot bat. This is a nightmare for those “selling” his struggles. I have been very harsh toward Frenchy, Loaf, and KJ. I would be more than happy to see Frenchy return to the skill set that he showed in his first two years, and the last few days he seems to be playing a bit better, but I wish he was not always the guy coming to the plate with the bases loaded. Can we figure out a spot in the order where this would not always seem to happen. As for Loaf, get rid of him. And then put KJ in left and tell him he has to produce. Then Diaz can play left or right depending on whether Frenchy or KJ is hot. Prado and Infante are both much much better than KJ or Frenchy.
