What’s the definition of insanity again?
Seriously, the way we keep running Francoeur out there game after game expecting different results is becoming a cruel, cruel joke.
Bottom of the fourth……..
Get ready for another 40 pitch inning folks.
Oh wait….30 more and he’ll be at 100 or so.
KJ, Frenchy and Escobar.
All three have livermush for brains! Only Escobar should be forcing the team to accept it.
Bad baserunning cost us a run again. I think all those pitchers parks in our minor system don’t allow our hitters to get on base enough to learn how they should do it.
francouer and kelly back to back might be worse than lowe and jurrjens i think the latter would have atleast driven one of those runs in
June 12th, 20098:20 pm
Joe Simpson is letting Jeff Francoeur have it !!! I hope Jeff hear it !!!
rob from sc
Bobby is the best nose picker in the business
To Hanson’s defense, he is throwing some good pitches and people are fouling them off. He has to locate better on the first pitch though no question.
Interesting turn of events there in the top half of the inning. I missed the McCann play. Sounded like he might have been safe.
I was fortunate however to see Jeff’s at-bat with one out. Isn’t that what they always say: you make a big play to end the inning and then you come up to swing at one waaaay outside?
I thought he really might get it done. Pretty pathetic.
who the heck is the camera guy????
When they said other people were just as guilty they showed Escobar….he’s Mr. Clutch.
Steve from OH
choozer–might that be because you can never hide a bad hitter anywhere in a major league lineup?
Wayne (Wyane) in Utah
Who would you think to be the first out of the pen tonight, when Hanson runs out of gas? Medlen, I hope.
I will gladly pay someone, anyone in the Baltimore area to jump Francoeur and Johnson in the parking lot and make sure they have to go back to Atlanta…
Can’t we just send them out for “sucking”…I mean in reality, that is in fact what we did to Norton!
he needs to throw the fastball in to get the hitters off the plate
June 12th, 20098:21 pm
TV crew giving JF hell!
JF and KJ at their best…………..any doubt they are the root of all our pains?
good play kelly, that ball took a bad hop on him.
June 12th, 20098:22 pm
Francouer and KJ should NEVER be allowed to play in the same game. And that’s until we can get rid of both of them.
there’s a 10-pitch inning and a DP ball on a curve….that’s more like it.
and do all the over-reactors on Hanson realize the score is 2-2? just wondering.
A couple more 10 pitch innings would be nice.
“IF (and that’s a big if, he really isn’t) Pendleton was a good hitting coach, he’d go over and talk to Jeff about his at bat.
But he’s not and he won’t do that, that would mean he’d have to do some work.”
You don’t think they have talked about what he does seemingly everytime in that position before. How many times do you have to tell someone? Joe Simpson says it, Bobby’s probably said it, Chipper’s said it, Rudy has said it,this blog has said it, your t-ball coach has said it. Jeff Francoeur is in his 4th full season, you shouldn’t have to say it anymore.
I agree with everything Joe Simpson is saying about Franceour.
Joe better watch it. He doesn’t want to get kicked off the charter again….lol
June 12th, 20098:23 pm
I wouldn’t call Mac being thrown out “bad baserunning.” I think it was more a result of a 318 foot right field wall and a very poor call by the ump.
Thanks. Yeah, I was (am) very ticked about that call.
Meanwhile, way to hold on to the lead, Tommy! 3-1 Braves!
Finally, Joe Simpson & Boog are taking Franceour to task for his lame approach during that at bat…what an idiot!!! I can’t stand his stupid-ass over aggressiveness
Pitcher’s parks are ideal for learning base-running. It spreads the defense and minimizes dingers. Don’t blame the parks
Hanson needs to put the HBP into these hitters heads. Then pitch inside more. Once he plunks a few hitters, the won’t be too excited to lean over the plate too hit the outside fastball. Wen know from SP he has a mean streak, he needs to start showing it.
He is so used to dominating hitters that he will learn how to “pitch” with more attitude
i LOVE how they are picking Francine apart on tv. 10000% deserved and way overdue.
June 12th, 20098:24 pm
No doubt Escobar has a good arm…proof on that play.
did Joe really get kicked off the plane before.
Francouer didnt even see a single strike in that at bat and he still struck out…what a douche!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, I hate the way KJ and Francoeur (and GA for that matter) are playing, but who you gonna play there??? Matt Diaz could use a few more AB’s, but you really don’t want Anderson and Diaz on the corners together too often. That could be painful in the field.
But not to worry, Canizares is here to save the day!
Boston 2-1 over Philly
Yanks 3-2 over MEts
Way to call folks out Carroll. Seriously, I wonder what people were expecting from Hanson? Dude’s a young guy who will make some mistakes. And he’s pitching with a lot of pressure I would think, given the Braves offense.
Guy’s doing just fine.
June 12th, 20098:25 pm
Jeff Francoeour sitting alone by hiself in the dugout !! Hm !!!!!!!!!!
cant believe cox JF & KJ back to back in the lineup! now, THAT is stupid.
I heard………….they are tired of being kind…….patience is over for him…………..when TV talks bad that loud about you………..you are toasted.
Take all the shots at Frenchy’s on the field (rather, in the batter’s box) play you want; it’s merited. Don’t call him a “douche,” as I’ve heard nothing that would make me use that word to describe him as a person. Perspective, folks.
Hopefully Heyward tears it up when he gets healthy. THen gets called up to Mississippi and hits the cover off the ball and we see him in RF for good on September 1st.
Come on Esco…follow that nice double play with a double here baby
does anyone know what the angels 1st base situation is? Maybe our stick is over there
June 12th, 20098:26 pm
You crack me up!
rob from sc
I think he was part of the TBS crew that got kicked off with the Javy Lopez incident….when Javy set up outside the catcher’s box…Ump called Javy on it, and the guys on TBS showed it on tv…and got onto him.
Folks, Francoeur is here until Heyward gets the call.
rob–not a chance in heck that happens. Maybe next September, if EVERYTHING goes well.
June 12th, 20098:27 pm
Excellent idea on the chin music.
You should be able to call out a player when he sucks. SOmetimes players are so touchy
Wow, not again
June 12th, 20098:28 pm
Ouch! Poor Escobar.
why can’t they ever hit Francoeur in a painful spot other than the head.
wouldn’t call Mac being thrown out “bad baserunning.” I think it was more a result of a 318 foot right field wall and a very poor call by the ump. (CBF)
it fit in better with my joke about the minor league parks, but I still think it was a poor decision to go for it in that park
Ha…just after I mention getting hit…
Hanson is going to peg someone
It’d be a good time for Chipper to break out of his mini funk…
Another Pitcher Throwing At Our Hitters, Yet We Won’t Retialiate!
Well Maybe We Will Hanson is on the mound and he has retialated before
June 12th, 20098:29 pm
oh I know…I was just making a joke…lol
Great…you think our offense sucks now…remember the giants series w/out yunel
Will Heyward get the call this year ?!!
Before you start, folks, it wasn’t intentional. Does a pitcher want to put two men on for Chipper?
June 12th, 20098:30 pm
If Chipper hits a DP…I think I’ll blow something up!
Chipper needs to deliver here…
maybe it was- I don’t think so but hey, moot point now right? (and in fairness, he was safe )
i think the over reactors realize its still 2-2, but that doesn’t mean they are blind.. just about everybody has been hitting hanson hard..real hard.
June 12th, 20098:31 pm
Do you think that everytime someone gets hit by a pitch that it’s on purpose? Yunel crowds the plate that’s the reason he gets hit a lot.
Just got back from seeing Smoltz pitch in Syracuse. He took the loss- 6 IP, 6 H, 4 runs-all earned, 1 HR given up. The radar gun was pretty messed up, he was throwing a changeup that was registering between 55-62. His fastball hit 90 only once, mostly between 84-86. His slider was working well, got a few guys on that, that was around 82 most of the time. He was dealing the first three innings, but lost it towards the end. A few hard hit balls including the homer, certainly not vintage Smoltzie, interesting to see how he comes back.
Ah, I see that T-hawkin’ got to it. Why am I not surprised. This ain’t rasslin, brah.
Steve from OH
I believe Heyward spends the second half of the season in Mississippi. He will then go play in the Arizona Fall League. If he dominates the he could be in RF on Opening Day.
Heyward has a great approach already. He says he could care less about homeruns, that he cares about average and driving in runs. He won’t hack at everything like Francoeur. Every young player must be judge differently.
Bases Loaded for McCann!
McCann gets a change to “atone” here….
June 12th, 20098:32 pm
There is no reason you should have to get out of the way of a pitch if it is going to hit you. That’s the pitchers fault for throwing inside.
The stat about Francoeur facing an 0-1 count in 69% of his plate appearances isn’t correct (at least not based on Baseball-reference.com for 2009). The correct stat is 47.6%. (By comparison, BMac is 41.3% and Chipper is 30.2 — Chipper takes a lot of first pitch balls.) He does swing at lots of first pitches — but when he puts the ball in play on the first pitch, his stats are really good. I’m not defending JF — I just don’t like misinformation.
Did Yunel get hurt on the HBP? Is he still in the game?
Does Yunel have a shot at Biggio’s career hit by pitch record?
Seems like he gets plunked several times a week.
Rumor is he’ll face us.
Pitcher’s parks are ideal for learning base-running. It spreads the defense and minimizes dingers. Don’t blame the parks (Bit)
boy that one sailed over your head. You can’t learn to run if you can’t get on base, no matter how spread out the D is. Sigh. It was a joke, that’s what the smiley face was- a hint that I wasn’t being serious.
NO, but when teams know we never respond, they will throw inside way more often
Sorry Steve from OH…my bad…letting my emotions get the best of me…by all accounts Frenchy’s a great guy…not a douche…could I rephrase that and say his hitting approach is douchebaggy?
Mac comes clean!
June 12th, 20098:33 pm
Mac Scoring Mac ~_~
I’m a realist NC. His fastball is s-t-r-a-i-g-h-t and hitters are salivating over it.
“Pressure”? These are the bigs….you embrace pressure.
I wish him well… I really do, but so far, I don’t see what all the hoopla is about.
See when you don’t try to hit it out of the ballpark…you get good hits.
Kid can just flat out hit, can’t he?
rob, I agree that Heyward will be in Mississippi before the end of the year barring injury, and AFL after that. But do you want to put him in the majors before he can legally drink? It takes physical and mental maturity, and the subsequent development of both in terms of baseball ability. Never hurts to give a kid extra time to get that. Heck, Schafer is as strong-headed as any prospect I’ve seen in a while, but you saw how it worked for him, not seeing AAA time.
Nice AB…keep it going men!
did Boog just say “Fat Albert is coming in”?
cabravesfan – kind of a Clark Kent/Superman moment last night – I disappear at 11:46, Tom emerges at 11:51.
I have no problem with Hanson. He’s got to take his lumps, just like the 3 other HOF pitchers we use to have.
How smart is Management to keep running Frenchy out there day in and day out.Don’t they have a clue how they’re pissing everyone off. Plus killing the attitude of follow players. Oh hell I’m as DOB said a kneejerk blogger.
June 12th, 20098:34 pm
I’ll say it again..I ripped him earlier…a little. BUT, if he come out and pitches dominant like Medlen did in his 3rd start. Then we ain’t got nothing to complain about.
Wow, short leash for the young Oriole pitcher.
Sucks to have a team that is sooo slow….
L-Ville: Absolutely. You could certainly use stronger words than that to describe his plate discipline!
This is just an extension of what would have continued last inning had Failcouer and KJ not been a speed bump for our rally.
June 12th, 20098:35 pm
Whoo-hoo! 4-1! Score them runs, boys! (A double would have been beautiful, but heck…)
If he shows the team and front office he is mature enough then yes he can make the team out of ST.
And he gets rid of Francoeur which is a added plus
Andruw Jones was 19 when he came up. He didn’t even play at AA !!
and you wonder why I suspect you are actually only one guy?
