What’s the definition of insanity again?

Seriously, the way we keep running Francoeur out there game after game expecting different results is becoming a cruel, cruel joke.

Bad baserunning cost us a run again. I think all those pitchers parks in our minor system don’t allow our hitters to get on base enough to learn how they should do it. 8)

To Hanson’s defense, he is throwing some good pitches and people are fouling them off. He has to locate better on the first pitch though no question.

Interesting turn of events there in the top half of the inning. I missed the McCann play. Sounded like he might have been safe.

I was fortunate however to see Jeff’s at-bat with one out. Isn’t that what they always say: you make a big play to end the inning and then you come up to swing at one waaaay outside?

Yeah baby.

I thought he really might get it done. Pretty pathetic.

“IF (and that’s a big if, he really isn’t) Pendleton was a good hitting coach, he’d go over and talk to Jeff about his at bat.

But he’s not and he won’t do that, that would mean he’d have to do some work.”

You don’t think they have talked about what he does seemingly everytime in that position before. How many times do you have to tell someone? Joe Simpson says it, Bobby’s probably said it, Chipper’s said it, Rudy has said it,this blog has said it, your t-ball coach has said it. Jeff Francoeur is in his 4th full season, you shouldn’t have to say it anymore.

Hanson needs to put the HBP into these hitters heads. Then pitch inside more. Once he plunks a few hitters, the won’t be too excited to lean over the plate too hit the outside fastball. Wen know from SP he has a mean streak, he needs to start showing it.

He is so used to dominating hitters that he will learn how to “pitch” with more attitude

Just got back from seeing Smoltz pitch in Syracuse. He took the loss- 6 IP, 6 H, 4 runs-all earned, 1 HR given up. The radar gun was pretty messed up, he was throwing a changeup that was registering between 55-62. His fastball hit 90 only once, mostly between 84-86. His slider was working well, got a few guys on that, that was around 82 most of the time. He was dealing the first three innings, but lost it towards the end. A few hard hit balls including the homer, certainly not vintage Smoltzie, interesting to see how he comes back.

I believe Heyward spends the second half of the season in Mississippi. He will then go play in the Arizona Fall League. If he dominates the he could be in RF on Opening Day.

Heyward has a great approach already. He says he could care less about homeruns, that he cares about average and driving in runs. He won’t hack at everything like Francoeur. Every young player must be judge differently.

There is no reason you should have to get out of the way of a pitch if it is going to hit you. That’s the pitchers fault for throwing inside.

The stat about Francoeur facing an 0-1 count in 69% of his plate appearances isn’t correct (at least not based on Baseball-reference.com for 2009). The correct stat is 47.6%. (By comparison, BMac is 41.3% and Chipper is 30.2 — Chipper takes a lot of first pitch balls.) He does swing at lots of first pitches — but when he puts the ball in play on the first pitch, his stats are really good. I’m not defending JF — I just don’t like misinformation.

It takes physical and mental maturity, and the subsequent development of both in terms of baseball ability. Never hurts to give a kid extra time to get that.
