One big difference between the great pitching staffs of the past and those of recent vintage is giving up runs after the Braves score. I’d love to see a stat about how many times Braves starters have given up runs in the immediate inning after the team scores. I bet it’s too high.

I have no doubt that Norton is nicked up. Pretty much every player at this point of the season is nicked up in some way. While I’m willing to give the Braves the benefit of the doubt that Norton is injured, I would not be surprised if the Braves put him on the disabled list in order to bring up Canizares AND give Norton time to work on his swing in the cage. The thinking could be that if Norton gets his swing turned around, then he can be a valuable pinch hitter later in the season. However, right now, the Braves need SOMEONE who can get a hit playing first base.
Two positions that are known for power (right field and first base) have given the Braves a combined 7 homers all year. That is simply unacceptable. The Braves cannot afford to just give at-bats away.

Tomahawkin – I don’t know if you watch basketball at all, but that Hawks/Cavs series music wise was embarrassing.
The Hawks charge towards their basket with a lonely snare drum playing the same thing 50 times a game. The Cavs have hip hop or hard rock playing.

Are you covering the games in Baltimore this weekend? I will be at Saturday night’s game. Hopefully the weather is good enough to play.
I was in Atlanta during the D-Backs series in mid May and I was only able to see the Friday game as Sunday’s was rained out. We were there walking around and praying for it to clear up. That was my son’s first Turner Field experience. He’s only two so he won’t remember it anyway. In fact he fell asleep during the tour because it was during his normal nap time.
I wish all stadiums would be built with a retractable roof. I know it’s expensive but when you’re talking $200-$300 million, what’s the difference? Of course that would be cheap compared to Yankee Stadium costing $1.5 billion.

I know times are hard and bills don’t pay themselves but some moments in life are not to be missed under any circumstance – the birth of your child would be one of those.

As bad as the Braves’ offense has been lately, Baltimore’s has been worse.
The Orioles hit .218 with a total of 17 runs in their past 10 games (2-8). They have a 4.64 ERA in that stretch and have hit five homers in those 10 games, including no multi-homer games.

DOB and Carroll– Whichever of you is going to Baltimore– Great Afghan restaurants just past Washington Monument owned by brother of President Karzai. This is the brother that some observers claim now controls certain substances produced in that country. Also, great seafood, Greek, and Italian restaurants especially in the area where they produced “The Wire” and one other famous cop show, both written by former Baltimore newspaper writer. Also, the Walters Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art are great. Enjoy! Parks for running too.
