Hmm…maybe I’ll have to give that a whirl…
No, Animal Collective don’t really sound like Radiohead at all.
Animal Collective is similar to Radiohead in the sense that you can’t place either band in a convenient genre box – both bands are too crafty to fall into any one grouping.
Daniel – WOW. Veckatimest over Yellow House? Honestly, I don’t even listen to Veckatimest anymore other than the hit (the 2nd song). I think most of the album is nice (but boring).
Where is the equivalent song for “On a Neck on a Spit” or “Colorado” on Veckatimest? Oh yeah, thats right – they don’t exist.
Still a great album, and I respect your choice of Grizzly Bear over Animal Collective, but I disagree.

didn’t know Merriweather Post Pavillion was an album title, but I do know that it’s a great concert venue bravesgrl4life
Yep! They named the album after that venue.
Daniel/Salamander: Thanks, i’ll go check them out.
June 12th, 20091:50 pm
Cheerleader and Souther Point are better songs. But, I do prefer Animal Collective’s album this year.
June 12th, 20091:53 pm
to me, your evidence is inconclusive…you think he doesnt want to be here because two guys scored from first on a double to left off of him?
and as far as being a loner in the clubhouse, that could be, but how much is your source in the clubhouse? and if someone is a loner does it always mean they wish they werent there?
ive got to take the evidence that garrett anderson chose to come to atlanta and play baseball of his own free will, that he does…or at least DID want to be here.
June 12th, 20091:54 pm
I think thats accurate on it being between Lowe and the power hitting outfielder. KK was already signed. Wren was not really interested in Lowe because of the price tage unless he could get him around 12 mil. He was waiting on Lowe price tage to come down and all hell broke loose with Smoltz. Then he had to have his “ace”. Afetr 15 mil for lowe he had about 3 mil to spend on a LF and lefthanded reliever.
June 12th, 20091:55 pm
You probably want to start with their latest album Merriweather Post Pavillion (which personally is not my favorite), but is the most accessible.
My favorite Animal Collective Album is either ‘Sung Tongs’ or ‘Feels.’ Their early stuff (before Sung Tongs) is a total mind fu-k with tribal-sounding noise experiments galore. Great stuff but kinda hard to get into initially.
June 12th, 20091:59 pm
Gentlemen, you had me at “foos”
June 12th, 20092:01 pm
And since we’re talking about music
I really like the new “Oh Sees” album called Help.
Its kinda cute punk rock with surf/garage rock elements. Its not mind blowing or anything, but its catchy.
Also, I guess the new Phoenix is good or whatever, since I hear it fu-king everywhere. Leave it to a french band to make a perfect American pop album. They are going to be hot this year – look for Phoenix to make the jump from indie band to mainstream (ala Shins or Arcade Fire).
June 12th, 20092:02 pm
If Hanson goes six strong tonight and again in his next start, I think Frank starts fielding offers for Vazquez in exchange for the power RF bat.
Swisher, for instance.
June 12th, 20092:05 pm
I obviously don’t know if GA wants to be here. I said he plays like he does not want to be here. Maybe he loves it here and is just inherently lazy. I don’t know. I just wish he would run down to first hard on a potential infield hit and that he would take more than five quick steps in either direction in the outfield. He can hate every day of his life in Atlanta and I don’t care. I do care that I buy a ticket to watch a guy play half a$$ed.
June 12th, 20092:06 pm
glord, you’re explaining things that’ve been discussed for months. We know, it’s nothing new. KK’s money coulda been used for a power bat… gotcha!
June 12th, 20092:15 pm
thanks for the rec salamander….
I have been enjoying the new eels album and the deerhunter ep
and yes on Phoenix… but it is usually the Swedes who do that.
June 12th, 20092:17 pm
DAP- you know that I really appreciate your opinions, but I am going to have to side with glord on this one.
glordI just wish he would run down to first hard on a potential infield hit
what if he hustles to first on a dropped strike 3 and makes it? cause hes already done that, and thanks to that play, we ended up winning the game.
June 12th, 20092:18 pm
Ah, posting copyrighted lyrics, stealing photos from the web. Keep up the good work Dave.
June 12th, 20092:22 pm
I apologize for repeating something on this blog. I know that does not happen here very often and I don’t want to offend anyone. With that said I would like to bring up a new topic. Man has anyone noticed Francouers OBP this year. It really sucks.
June 12th, 20092:23 pm
Hey DOB – When Tommy P’s journalist buddy says “New Bloggage” well there’s new bloggage.
June 12th, 20092:24 pm
I didn’t know the Eels had a new album out — how is it?
June 12th, 20092:26 pm
im failing to find the new bloggage.
Whoops, I meant Daniel — I’m sorry!
Happy birthday, Hall of Fame!!
What are you, the resident do-chebag for the day?
Anders – I’m guessing you are suggesting that you don’t see a new blog? It takes upwards for 30 minutes for a new blog to show up on my machine after Dave announces that its up. Dunno why.
June 12th, 20092:27 pm
I think we just got duped DAP.
Yes, the Eels have a new album called Hombre Lobo and it is very good. I would give it 3.5 out of 5
June 12th, 20092:28 pm
We, Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda Swept the Pirates, Nuff Said!!! We Better Take 2 of 3 from the Orioles!
I’m So Tired Of This Team Slacking Off Against the Jubroni teams of the League, expecting them to hand the games to them like opposing garbage teams did in the late 90’s…
Our Offense Comes Correct against the Good Pichers (Santana, B. Myers) But We Hit like an AAA team against The Jubroni Pitchers of the league….
Other Than McLouth Who Has come with a fire persona to this team, I Hate This Bobby-Ball Style Off Offense, even though The Team Made a good Effort to play ABC Offensive baseball yesterday
I knew That This Awfense would Get Too Homer Happy after the first 2 games of the Series, and Wholllah!!! They have swung for the fences the last two games and therefore having undisciplined At-Bats Resulting in Garbage Results!!!
I’m guessing that was not DOB posting about the new blog. Unless he forgot to color inside the lines.
I haven’t heard either of those releases yet. I keep meaning to get the new Deerhunter EP…
June 12th, 20092:30 pm
haha, boy am i stupid. i didnt even notice it wasnt in gray…plus isnt carroll rogers doing this series?
Thank God Carroll is here….
DOB – keep smarting off to people! Seems like that is the only way any of us can get a response out of you! Funny how you still haven’t asked Cox why he keeps putting Frenchy in the lineup. But you’d rather dog Escobar for leaving the game without speaking to you…..
Something has to be said for Hudson trying to get at you last year doesn’t it? Probably that smart@$$ mouth!
Welcome back Carroll….now please stay!
Burned . Nice play. Plus I read that Carroll was gonna post a new blog. TGIF.
June 12th, 20092:32 pm
Other new stuff that I have been enjoying….
Here we go magic, Mos Def, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and the Lemonheads… yes, the Lemonheads have a covers album coming out, you can get a couple of their new songs on their myspace page. I also reccomend you check out the Sparklehorse/Danger Mouse album Dark was the Night. You can only hear it on NPR. I put a link up on the last page.
Salamander, can you find AC on Itunes? Big fan of TVOTR as well. Should be a great show, especially at the Tabernacle. Need to go to a good concert soon, last one was Radiohead @ Lakewood last year. Trying to see Kings of Leon 10/9 @ Phillips.
That was pretty funny
June 12th, 20092:33 pm
It’s JABRONI, not jubroni. Although it and you are one and the same.
Cool, thanks Daniel. I need to go get that album soon.
June 12th, 20092:34 pm
Actually, CARROLL said SHE was posting a new blog shortly, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some knucklehead is posing as DOB to (why, I don’t know) get a rise out of the regulars here.
BTW, last night’s back-and-forths with DOB and his detractors is MUST-READ material. Dave was on his ‘A’ game last night, guys. Worth checking out if you wanna scan back a few pages.
June 12th, 20092:35 pm
DAP- Earlier I said Swisher was horrible. Maybe a little strong on my part. But I have to tell you I’ve seen a lot of him this year with the Yanks and he’s nothing special. Plus he gets pitched to in that overwhelming line up. I think if he was on the Braves he’d have to deal with a little more selective pitch offers.
Overall I just think Melky is much more athletic and would be more of what the Braves need. The Braves have been down the Swisher route with Kotchman and Kotsay. Do you really want to go that route again?
BTW- This is the Braves weekend to make hay. The Mets are limping into the lions den in the Bronx and the Phillies are hosting the red hot Red Sox.
June 12th, 20092:37 pm
OK, yeah I’ll have to check some of those out… at the moment I’m kinda going through a metal phase, so I’ve exploring Enslaved’s back catalog along with other bands’ new releases.
FYI, the latest Intronaut album called “Prehistorisms” (2008) kicks butt (assuming you dig metal). Been on my playlist permanently for the past 7 months or so.
The new Isis record is totally boring… sounds like Lateralus to me (Tool album from 2001).
Careful with that last post. You almost sounded like a reasonable person. And we know that is not possible with a Mets fan.
June 12th, 20092:38 pm
Jon do you need a tissue?
The temp has risen about 15 degrees here in NY in the last few hours.Mid 80’s. If you have a seat in the right field stands in Yankee stadium tonight you’re pretty much gauranteed a ball. This feels like the first real warm day/night this year up here. Now lets see what that launching pad really has to offer.
June 12th, 20092:39 pm
DAP must be the rose colored glasses you have on that makes it hard to see the gray in life:)
new blog should be up. sorry for delay!
June 12th, 20092:40 pm
Never used Itunes, but I’m going to guess yes, AC should be on there.
Oh man! I wanted to go to that Radiohead show so bad… Couldn’t afford it (hooray being a broke grad. student).
June 12th, 20092:41 pm
Lateralus was boring. I go through metal phases as well…hatebreed, despised icon, all shall perish, lamb of god. even like the old sepultura, pantera, fear factory..etc etc
June 12th, 20092:42 pm
Carroll, can you post a link for the new blog? Seems to take forever to show up on the AJC Braves page.
June 12th, 20092:43 pm
same for me too bravesgrl4life
the radiohead show was awesome. they played “paranoid android” towards the end of the show and it started to rain a little bit just as the chorus was kickin in “rain down, rain down, c’mon rain down..” would love to see them again.
June 12th, 20092:45 pm
Drives me crazy as well…when you two say…NEW BLOG….but it shows up 20-30 mintues later….a link would help.
Macon Braves (RIP)
If Swisher is getting pitched to in the Yankee lineup then he has one heck of an eye for the strike zone. Guy is hitting .255 AVG with a .394 OBP…… .394! He’s drawn 42 BB’s in about 226 AB’s. The Braves could definitely use the guy. Not saying he would be my first choice, but depending the trade cost and who else is even available, Swisher wouldn’t be a bad pickup at all.
June 12th, 20092:46 pm
If you look over at the right hand side of this page in “Recent Posts” you can see the new blog well before it shows up on the sports home page.
June 12th, 20092:47 pm
andersI have to tell you I’ve seen a lot of him this year with the Yanks and he’s nothing special.
that is in no way backed up by his performance this season, or in his career.
swisher’s .932 OPS this year is 100 points higher than kotchman or kotsay have ever totaled, so im not sure where that comparison fits.
he is getting on base at a chipper jonesian rate, has good power, and plays several positions (from what i can tell, he plays a + LF)
swisher is a good player, and no evidence i can find about him says anything else. if by watching him, youve decided he is nothing special, but melky is, then youd be smart not to trust your observations.
June 12th, 20092:52 pm
Well if you like some of those bands MiltonDawg, I bet you would like Intronaut. They have their sh-t together.
So do you prefer the new Mastodon or the old stuff (i.e. before Blood Mountain)?
June 12th, 20092:54 pm
June 12th, 20093:12 pm
Daniel: Thanks for reminder on Mos Def, heard it’s his best work in a decade. Gotta get that one.
Phoenix: The CD is good, but not as nearly as good as some reviews proclaim, at least in my opinion. Pretty lightweight.
You guys want to hear a great, rockin’ album, the The Thermals’ Now We Can See. Everything they’ve done is great, but the new one … tasty. Very strong.
Jon (no Original Jon): The thing with Huddy was this spring, not last year. Bowl of bitterness to go?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
