No, Animal Collective don’t really sound like Radiohead at all.
Animal Collective is similar to Radiohead in the sense that you can’t place either band in a convenient genre box – both bands are too crafty to fall into any one grouping.
Daniel – WOW. Veckatimest over Yellow House? Honestly, I don’t even listen to Veckatimest anymore other than the hit (the 2nd song). I think most of the album is nice (but boring).
Where is the equivalent song for “On a Neck on a Spit” or “Colorado” on Veckatimest? Oh yeah, thats right – they don’t exist.
Still a great album, and I respect your choice of Grizzly Bear over Animal Collective, but I disagree.

and as far as being a loner in the clubhouse, that could be, but how much is your source in the clubhouse? and if someone is a loner does it always mean they wish they werent there?
ive got to take the evidence that garrett anderson chose to come to atlanta and play baseball of his own free will, that he does…or at least DID want to be here.

I think thats accurate on it being between Lowe and the power hitting outfielder. KK was already signed. Wren was not really interested in Lowe because of the price tage unless he could get him around 12 mil. He was waiting on Lowe price tage to come down and all hell broke loose with Smoltz. Then he had to have his “ace”. Afetr 15 mil for lowe he had about 3 mil to spend on a LF and lefthanded reliever.

You probably want to start with their latest album Merriweather Post Pavillion (which personally is not my favorite), but is the most accessible.
My favorite Animal Collective Album is either ‘Sung Tongs’ or ‘Feels.’ Their early stuff (before Sung Tongs) is a total mind fu-k with tribal-sounding noise experiments galore. Great stuff but kinda hard to get into initially.

I really like the new “Oh Sees” album called Help.
Its kinda cute punk rock with surf/garage rock elements. Its not mind blowing or anything, but its catchy.
Also, I guess the new Phoenix is good or whatever, since I hear it fu-king everywhere. Leave it to a french band to make a perfect American pop album. They are going to be hot this year – look for Phoenix to make the jump from indie band to mainstream (ala Shins or Arcade Fire).

I obviously don’t know if GA wants to be here. I said he plays like he does not want to be here. Maybe he loves it here and is just inherently lazy. I don’t know. I just wish he would run down to first hard on a potential infield hit and that he would take more than five quick steps in either direction in the outfield. He can hate every day of his life in Atlanta and I don’t care. I do care that I buy a ticket to watch a guy play half a$$ed.

I’m So Tired Of This Team Slacking Off Against the Jubroni teams of the League, expecting them to hand the games to them like opposing garbage teams did in the late 90’s…
Our Offense Comes Correct against the Good Pichers (Santana, B. Myers) But We Hit like an AAA team against The Jubroni Pitchers of the league….
Other Than McLouth Who Has come with a fire persona to this team, I Hate This Bobby-Ball Style Off Offense, even though The Team Made a good Effort to play ABC Offensive baseball yesterday
I knew That This Awfense would Get Too Homer Happy after the first 2 games of the Series, and Wholllah!!! They have swung for the fences the last two games and therefore having undisciplined At-Bats Resulting in Garbage Results!!!

Other new stuff that I have been enjoying….
Here we go magic, Mos Def, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and the Lemonheads… yes, the Lemonheads have a covers album coming out, you can get a couple of their new songs on their myspace page. I also reccomend you check out the Sparklehorse/Danger Mouse album Dark was the Night. You can only hear it on NPR. I put a link up on the last page.

Salamander, can you find AC on Itunes? Big fan of TVOTR as well. Should be a great show, especially at the Tabernacle. Need to go to a good concert soon, last one was Radiohead @ Lakewood last year. Trying to see Kings of Leon 10/9 @ Phillips.

Actually, CARROLL said SHE was posting a new blog shortly, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some knucklehead is posing as DOB to (why, I don’t know) get a rise out of the regulars here.
BTW, last night’s back-and-forths with DOB and his detractors is MUST-READ material. Dave was on his ‘A’ game last night, guys. Worth checking out if you wanna scan back a few pages.

DAP- Earlier I said Swisher was horrible. Maybe a little strong on my part. But I have to tell you I’ve seen a lot of him this year with the Yanks and he’s nothing special. Plus he gets pitched to in that overwhelming line up. I think if he was on the Braves he’d have to deal with a little more selective pitch offers.
Overall I just think Melky is much more athletic and would be more of what the Braves need. The Braves have been down the Swisher route with Kotchman and Kotsay. Do you really want to go that route again?
BTW- This is the Braves weekend to make hay. The Mets are limping into the lions den in the Bronx and the Phillies are hosting the red hot Red Sox.

OK, yeah I’ll have to check some of those out… at the moment I’m kinda going through a metal phase, so I’ve exploring Enslaved’s back catalog along with other bands’ new releases.
FYI, the latest Intronaut album called “Prehistorisms” (2008) kicks butt (assuming you dig metal). Been on my playlist permanently for the past 7 months or so.
The new Isis record is totally boring… sounds like Lateralus to me (Tool album from 2001).

The temp has risen about 15 degrees here in NY in the last few hours.Mid 80’s. If you have a seat in the right field stands in Yankee stadium tonight you’re pretty much gauranteed a ball. This feels like the first real warm day/night this year up here. Now lets see what that launching pad really has to offer.

the radiohead show was awesome. they played “paranoid android” towards the end of the show and it started to rain a little bit just as the chorus was kickin in “rain down, rain down, c’mon rain down..” would love to see them again.

If Swisher is getting pitched to in the Yankee lineup then he has one heck of an eye for the strike zone. Guy is hitting .255 AVG with a .394 OBP…… .394! He’s drawn 42 BB’s in about 226 AB’s. The Braves could definitely use the guy. Not saying he would be my first choice, but depending the trade cost and who else is even available, Swisher wouldn’t be a bad pickup at all.

that is in no way backed up by his performance this season, or in his career.
swisher’s .932 OPS this year is 100 points higher than kotchman or kotsay have ever totaled, so im not sure where that comparison fits.
he is getting on base at a chipper jonesian rate, has good power, and plays several positions (from what i can tell, he plays a + LF)
swisher is a good player, and no evidence i can find about him says anything else. if by watching him, youve decided he is nothing special, but melky is, then youd be smart not to trust your observations.

Daniel: Thanks for reminder on Mos Def, heard it’s his best work in a decade. Gotta get that one.
Phoenix: The CD is good, but not as nearly as good as some reviews proclaim, at least in my opinion. Pretty lightweight.
You guys want to hear a great, rockin’ album, the The Thermals’ Now We Can See. Everything they’ve done is great, but the new one … tasty. Very strong.
