Write a story on Pat Venditte. I promise a ton of people will read it. Make a case for trading for him or write something about how he went undrafted for 19 rounds (yet throws with both hands).
Jim………..I totally agree with your assessment that the Braves have a strength in starting pitching. However, if you are going to drastically improve the lack of right handed power in the line-up….you basically have two choices. No team is going to give up a big right handed bat UNLESS you do one of two things. 1. give up a premium starting pitcher. 2. give up premium prospects (meaning the Braves are going to have to give up a lot more than they gave up to get McLouth from the Pirates).
You have to give up quality to get quality. No team is going to want our garbage (kelly, garrett, norton, franceour, etc.) in return for their stud players. So the choice is either giving up our best prospects or a starting pitcher to get that elusive right handed power bat that will help put the Braves over the hump.
ANTI(ironic?)-NEGATIVE GUY, you got the wrong end of the stick. It was a copy-paste that I absent-mindedly stuck in the box and hit submit before I caught it. Sorry to rob you of a chance to feel self-righteous, though.
David O’Brien……….I totally agree with what you found out about Jordan Schafer. Making the jump from Double-A to the Majors was too difficult for him right now. If he works hard in Triple A and makes the adjusments that he needs to make, I see no reason why he cant be a very good Major League player. I like his swing, he has speed, and he will draw walks. He just had a problem making contact for Atlanta. However I am not down on him like I am on Franceour.
There is a difference between a player who is struggling, yet has “it” (Jordan Schafer) and a player who is struggling and doesnt have “it” (Jeff Franceour)
faninva……….I never said that you cant disagree with Braves management in order to be a “true Braves fan”. I have been critical of Braves management myself on a number of occasions. However, what I have been harping on is so-called Braves fans ripping Braves management because they dont like to see their favorite players let go. Being more loyal to past their prime players than to the team is not an indication that one is a true Braves fan.
That inning right there is why Jair Jurrjens is a better Game 7 pitcher than Derek Lowe. JJ seems to get himself out of jams without allowing any runs.
Hi all…slow night here on call at Kosairs Childrens Hospital in Louisville…all kinds of firewall activity preventing my mlb.com player from keeping me up to date…any updates would be appreciated…and to pass the time Ive been reading the posts-I respect that there seems to be a current of opinion against this Paul Lentz fellow being a nimrod, but he does make some good points about being a good fan…he’s not all bad
How come the Chip Carey bashers out there didn’t notice his “wardrobe malfunction” just minutes before the game?
While chatting with Joe, the little green Peachtree TV signpost logo fell off of his white shirt… and they didn’t miss a beat. It gave me a good laugh. I had to reverse the TiVo to see what the heck that was that fell down!
When they came back from the commercial, the logo was still detached. Joe’s logo was still attached to his lime green shirt.
The Braves are historically bad when facing a pitcher for the first time. They are also historically good when facing a former teammate. So something has to give tonight.
Andy laRoche got hit with a pitch and he had his bat right up above Mac’s head…cause he was going to swing…and he just dropped it and it hit Mac in the face mask….it was no accident….he could have dropped it somewhere else.
