Norton has the same injury that landed Perez of the Mets, and Wang of the Yankees on the DL.

Let’s hope that Norton gets his swing straighten out while on his rehab assignment, if not, this could spell release for him. Especially if Canizares plays well.

Canizares only has 4 errors. Does he not play in the field a lot at Gwinnett? Otherwise, I don’t understand the butcher comments.

Efrim–Oakland is always pretty savvy when it comes to the draft. Heck, I dunno if a hard slot would’ve save us this year, anyway. It seems like we’re taking guys that would sign for below slot.

If Canizares can hit and hits well today he might be a good addition for the interleague games that are coming up. He can DH and stay far away from fielding.

Big game today. If they want to stay in contention, Braves have to take this series in addition to the next two. We have a gift in missing Cueto when the Braves play the Reds. But I’ll be happy if we go 3/4 here, 2/3 against B-More and 2/3 in Cincy.

Here’s my lineup for Bravos today, if they hadn’t traded Anderson but still traded for McLouth:
1. Josh Anderson, RF (14 SBs for Tigers)
2. Escobar, SS
3. McLouth, CF
4. Chipper, 3B
5. Barbaro 1B
6. Diaz, LF
7. Ross, C
8. Johnson, 2B
9. Vazquez

And with McCann starting and the boys healthy:
1. Josh Anderson, LF
2. Escobar, SS
3. McLouth, CF
4. Chipper, 3B
5. McCann, C
6. Infante, RF
7. Prado, 2B
8. Kotchman, 1B
9. Pitcher

Say what you will about Barbaro, but with interleague games he does not have to field. And there are AL teams that will be happy to find a great DH if he can show his stuff. Who knows, has anyone ever listed Big Papi as anything other than a bat? And if he does not improve significantly, even Red Sox might be in the market for him.

For those that were saying that we were ‘doing a number’ on Yunel here today, I say it started with the wise-ass announcers – Chip or the other one – that blurted out that ‘he went to sleep’ on that play. The kid had his back to the infield trying to make the force…turned and pumped to see if he had a play at first…and only then realized that the runner at third hadn’t stopped. Just who the hell was asleep? I say everybody else on the infield that wasn’t calling for the play to be turned to home. Just like a pitcher fielding a bunt, somebody’s got to tell him where the throw needs to go before it’s too late.

As for Norton, before this DL thing, I was about to predict that he would get a coupla’ hits today. Looked to me that he was finally getting some wood on the ball. The guy’s timing obviously isn’t there. I just hope he’s given another shot at it before they toss him onto the junk-heap.

The best thing KJ can do right now is attempt to drag-bunt a coupla’ times a game. The guy’s as good at it as anybody I’ve ever seen. He doesn’t give it away…he lays it down perfectly…and he runs his ass off. I really would like to see it. McClouth looks as if he can as well – even when his went, virtually, straight back to the pitcher, he almost beat it out. Get some base runners and maybe somebody’ll get ‘em in.

Steve from OH

Again folks, Anderson has a .641 OPS and a whopping .239 EqA this season (which factors in stolen bases; .260 is set as average). He is not a good hitter, will never be a good hitter, and we need good hitters, not Josh Anderson.

Burdell

choozer, if McLouth and J.Anderson were on the same team, McLouth would play LF.

McLouth’s range has been decreasing over the years (as it tends to do), so I think he’s slated more as an above average corner OF in the future, with Schafer or someone else taking over in CF. Meanwhile, McLouth is serviceable out there for now.

Lew,

That’s easier said than done. Everyone of us has 100% back vision. You might want to give a little credit to Morton who had the speed and the talent to make the play. I wish the Braves had that speed and talent. If they did, they would be in first place. They need some BURNERS on this team. They are boring as hell. Maybe McClouth can pick this team up

Steve from OH, Colorado had an excellent draft. In regards to the Braves, it will be very interesting to see how much they spend on the International front. July 2nd is the signing date. If they went low budget for the Rule 4 draft, I’d assume they would spend more on the International front.

2 starts and Norton gets injured. Pretty bad start to his season, with an average under 100, but to his credit he has hit some serious bullets that either go foul or are hit right at somebody, and he has a high OBP, considering his average.

Granted, Casey Kotchman was out last night due to injury but this was Braves lineup: 1)Nate McLouth(Good), 2)Yunel Escobar(Good), 3) Chipper Jones(Great), 4) Brian McCann(Great), 5) Garrett Anderson(Average) 6)Kotchman(Below Avg), 7) Jeff Francouer(Way Below Avg), 8) Kelly Johnson (Average). That lineup is just not a lineup good enough to get to postseason. 50% of our lineup is average to below and Jeff Francouer needs to go…..I hate “selling low” but this guy just does not “get it”. Hard to believe. I’m frustrated because the Braves need to go out and get a couple of bats in free agency and quit making trades all the time. The great teams make a few trades but add a piece or two via free agency every year. Until the cheap ownership prescribes to this theory the Braves will never be elite again. Besides, the last few years we are losing as many trades as we win. Clearly we “won” the Renteira/Jurjjens trade but we lost the JD Drew/Adam Wainwright trade and we lost the Texiarra/Salty/Andrus trade – our GM is not smart enough to build a winner without adding some free agents. Braves need two more bats in their lineup – they could have gotten Adam Dunn who has power galore but Frank Wren said he did not like Dunn’s defense. Well, by God I would sacrifice the 1-2 runs a month we would give up with Dunn in left field to gain the 6-7 extra runs a month Dunn would produce over our corner outfield guys we have on the roster now. Sure we have good starting pitching but we have to have a lead to protect for the pitchers to actually win…….C’mon Frankie Wren!!!!! McLouth was a decent start but we need to do more.

The rays are in desperate need of an everyday catcher, and the braves have Ross who has proven to be more than a back-up. I actually like Zobrist much more than DeRosa. first of all willy wally – is there any reason to name call? Really mature

as far as trading escobar, i threw that out there for many reasons. Everyone is screaming for a trade for a bat for at least one OF if not 2 OF, and many people also want a 1B upgrade as well. No one wants to trade Heyward or Freeman, so what does that leave? We cannot just throw together our castoffs in a package and get a significant upgrade. Frenchy and JoJo will not net us an impact bat. If we were to make a trade we would have to give up something significant in high demand. I see 2 possiblities in my amateur opinion.

One is Escobar. No one wants to get him out of our lineup. He may very well become a star. He is cheap and under our control for years. There are concerns, however, about his attitude and if he is hurting club house chemistry (which he may not be) then the Braves, I assume would at least think about trading him. Boston, who is rich with pitching prospects and a near ML ready top 1B prospect, needs a SS to compete in the highly competitive AL East (they also need OF depth and DH depth). Epstein would probably say no if the Braves asked for Clay Buchholz and/or Lars Anderson in a package for Escobar but what they will give up will depend on how much they want a SS. The reason why I said that if this were to happen the Braves need to do it soon is the more reports, accurate or not, that come out that Escobar has a bad attitude the more it decreases his trade value. Combined with a bone headed play last night and then skipping the press questions while dumping these on his teammates does generate more questions about Escobar.

The other current Brave that is a trade option in my opinion would be Vazquez. He has pitched brilliantly for the most part for the Braves. A great trade by Frank Wren. Teams need pitching – Texas, Toronto, LA Dodgers, etc, and these teams have some attractive OF bats – Ethier, Cruz, Rios. Vazquez could be replaced by Medlen in the rotation or if in the highly unlikely case Escobar is dealt for someone like Buchholz they could be inserted in the rotation. As far as short stop if Diory can continue to play good defense and hit 8th until Infante returns, I could live with that if we upgraded OF spots or 1B.

I would doubt the Cardinals would want Kelly now but a change of scenery may do him good. A trade for Ankiel would be what the cardinals would go for. Even though Boras is his agent Ankiel may go for a 1 year deal in the $5-10 million range since he is coming off a down year with injury in a bad economy.

If the Yankees get desparate enough for pitching would they trade Swisher to the Braves for Kawakami??

No way it would happen but I could deal with an OF of Cruz/Ethier, McLouth, and Ankiel and a rotation of Lowe, Jurrjens, Kawakami, Hanson, Medlen (or Buchholz???)

Hey Guys,

No matter what lineup you post, these guys cannot score runs on a consistent basis. They need another big bopper at first base and in the outfield to help Chipper and some speed at 1,2 and 3 to set the table. McLouth is the the number 3 guy. The Boppers(Freeman and Heywood) are at least two years away. We need to trade for some speed at second base. KJ needs to go. Put Branden in left field and platoon Frenchy and Anderson and Diaz in right. Anderson has more pop in his stick, so maybe he should start more. By the way, he was not brought in for his glove and hustle. He was brought in for his stick. The Braves need sticks and speed.

Didn’t take Simpson long to crawl Yunel’s case again today. Dammit, I still say the kid was making a play and nobody, I mean nobody, was giving him a clue as to where the play needed to go. Lay off him jerk…I mean, just what did you do in your career that gave you the creds to make bad observations and not realize that you just might be wrong. And while I’m at it, these two, Simpson and Boog(er) go off on tangents all the time, to the point that they miss a hellofalot of baseball which is what they pay ‘em for. They miss calls, reactions, entire plays, yappin’ about their facebook, or some other meaningless pap.

One other observation, hopefully, the new guy at first, being from Cuba, will help Yunel a bit. We got rid of his best bud at the beginning of the season which I think hurt the kid more than people have acknowledged.
