If the rumor is true, it has to be Escobar. The Braves have no other SS’s of value…who are healthy. Hernandez or Hicks? Give me a break.

They wanted Furcal to play 2nd not SS genius.

Regardless of numbers, they didn’t want to get rid of Yunel and sign Raffy. That deal was after the Peavy one feel through.

Maybe the Sox know they can make a run at a Holliday type player and are willing to trade Bay? Of course, I seriously doubt it, and we don’t really have a replacement now that Elvis has left the building, but you never know.

That McCutcheon cat can scoot, folks. Serious speed….

Extensive research (thanks Adam Liberman, Braves PR) has revealed that this is the latest that Bobby Cox has gone without an ejection in a season since 1996, when he got his first ejection on … yes, June 8.

He’s not been tossed from a game this season, after averaging nine ejections the past three seasons. His career-leading total sits at 143.

I would be very upset if Escobar was dealt, I think he’s very underrated, has great range, will sacrifice his body to make the play and man, what an arm…but after everything we’ve seen the past week, nothing would surprise me.

ottom line. Tom Glavine and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a contract that paid him 1 million dollars regardless (call it rehab pay). It called for him to receive another 1 million IF he made the roster.

At the time that this decision was needed to be made. They decided that Tommy Hanson was the better pitcher and had proved all he had to prove in AAA. It doesn’t matter if it was 1 million or 10 million owed to Glavine upon “making” the roster. (N8)

Thats what I said, the scouts prove that it was not just financial, Nate. It matters if it goes to a grievance. It will be the proof that they had a legitimate reason for releasing him other than financial, which is not an acceptable reason per union/mgmt agreement. You are right, the amount owed doesn’t matter, but they can’t cut him for that reason

Dogsbrekky, the BoSox are indeed looking at a Braves shortstop, although the writer who called me from up there asking didn’t know which one. I told him probably Diory, who’s looked pretty solid in his first stint in bigs.

Just imagine if we had Swisher and his 11 homers this year standings would look alot different. Play all outfield spots and 1b too. Switch hitter as well.
But back to the Shortstop and Red Sox, I cant imagine us dealing Yunel. He will be future gold glover and hit 290.-300. every year. and we dont have another quality SS in my opinion lol. What would they give us??

I dont think that anyone is saying that Tommy Hanson had a “great” outing yesterday. However, he SHOWED flashes of why he is going to be a STUD in the pitching rotation for years to come. He made some mistakes, that the Brewers jumped all over. However he also blew some strikes by them as well. Just like Medlen got rocked his first start, he improved in both his next 2 starts. I see no reason why Hanson cant do the same thing.

Regardless of the 6 runs he gave up, he made it through 6 innings. The way the Brewers are hitting, there is no way that Glavine makes it out of the 4th inning. Glavine may have given up 6 runs as well. However he gets yanked much earlier and the bullpen gets taxed.

Sure, I want to win today. However what I look for during a loss is “does he have it in him to make adjustments to do better”. Even though a lot of you were all over Medlen after that first start………I posted that I liked the kid’s stuff, that his pitches have movement. He just couldnt locate his pitches that night. I rightfully predicted that he would make the adjustments and he did.

Hanson had great movement and could locate his pitches very well. He just made a couple of mistakes that got tattooed. He’ll learn from it.

What the Braves really need right now is a right handed power hitting right fielder. The Braves get that, you guys will see the Braves go on a serious run.

I just dont get the “a player cant be cut for financial reasons” clause in the collective bargaining agreement. In the NFL, players get cut all the time for “financial reasons”. I know, the NFL does not have guarantee contracts. However most contracts are guaranteed in baseball. So if a player gets cut, he gets his money no matter what.

However, the Braves were wise to not guarantee Glavine’s contract. When the Braves signed Glavine, they were counting on him being ready by April 18th (the first time that the 5th spot in the rotation would be needed to start). However he had hurt his shoulder and had to temporarily put his rehab on hold.

If Glavine had come back when the Braves had expected him to, then he would have gotten a chance to pitch. However he didnt. So the Braves had to make adjustments. That gave Hanson and Medlen a chance to prove themselves at Triple A. So Glavine being slow to come back gave the Braves every right to cut him when it became apparent that he would no longer be needed.

Yet many of you Glavine supporters conveniently forget that.

Kind of odd for two teams that are trying to “add pieces” to be trade partners…both wants the other’s strengths usually. If there is a major deal between the RedSox and the Braves, would have to guess it would be a minor deal…unless there is a 3rd team involved.

Saw that MLBTradeRumor post about the shortstop and the Braves. My first thought was Diory. Then I read the “speculation” about Escobar and laughed. I can’t fathom Yunel being traded… the question is, what would the Braves acquire from the BoSox. I’m not terribly familiar with that teams minor league system, but I am rather familiar with what the Braves need, a bat. Going off of depth charts alone the BoSox have pitching to deal. So I have no idea what they are looking to do. I know they want a better SS than what they have but that’s their own doing for trading the best SS in the majors. I’d like to see them never get a good one back.

As it stands right now, it would NOT be wise to pick up the option on Hudson’s contract. Paying $12 mil (the Braves are already on the hook for $1 mil because that is the buyout price…so $13 mil minus $1 mil equals the $12 mil additional cost to the Braves if they picked up the option) to a starting pitcher coming off elbow surgery is NOT the wisest of investments……..particularly when the Braves already have a starting 5 who are healthy (6 if you count Medlen). I’m not saying that Hudson is done or cant contribute. I’m saying that setbacks are common with pitchers coming back from elbow surgery. Picking up the $13 mil option on Tim Hudson would be a BIG gamble.

However, circumstances can always change. If Hudson comes back in August and shows that he is back to his old self……..then that would give the Braves the option to make expendable one of their starters, should the right trade cross their path.

My hope is that……………..DAMN, WAY TO HIT THE LONG BALL…..OFF A LEFT HANDER….TO THE OPPOSITE FIELD MCLOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
