Paul Lentz, I seriously think Frenchy has it in his mind that he’s aggressive, will ambush the pitcher, you just wait, kinda attitude. Remember, he came up doing the same thing, but pitchers aren’t stupid…they’re 2 or 10 steps ahead of him.
The draft and the minors is my thing as well. I prefer not to draft Wheeler if we could, I’ve seen this kid pitch in person and I was not impressed. He has a very nice FB with tons of movement but could not throw it for a strike luckily he was facing HS hitters that were swinging at everything. Two kid swung at three staight FBs that were literally 10 ft. outside and in the dirt. Wheeler rarely threw his CB and when he did is was nowhere close to being a strike although it did have a nice break and he didn’t throw a change.
Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Warren Spahn, Phil Nikero, Cy Young, Lefty Grove (sp?), Kid Nichols, Charles Radborn (sp?), and Jon Clarkson. (PWH)

However I wouldnt do that. I’d bat him 8th.
Well, today’s start for Kawakami has been as if it were a 6 man rotation due to the rain out with Cubs. He pitched well when he had that rest against Toronto. Not trying to jinx here, but could there be something to that?

Green tea Coca Cola to debut in Japan, while Pepsi Cola tries basil
By Associated Press
8:03 AM CDT, June 4, 2009
TOKYO (AP) — Forget “Classic” or “New” Coke. In Japan, you can soon have your cola flavored with green tea or basil.
Green tea-flavored Coca-Cola will hit Japanese stores June 8, Coca Cola (Japan) Co. spokesman Katsuya Sato said Thursday. It contains tea antioxidants called catechins, leaves a slight green tea aftertaste and is mainly targeted at health-conscious women in their 20s and 30s, Sato said.
“We wanted to cater to people who are looking for something that tastes good but is also good for health and beauty,” he said…
Rival Pepsi Cola is countering with another exotic cola — Japanese basil-flavored “Pepsi Shiso,” which hits stores in late June.
Lew, if you’re around? Did you do a painting of McCann and give it to him or his parents? I saw a painting that looks like one of yours in the background on the preview of Spotlight on McCann. It’s in a shot where his dad is talking.
A fielder’s choice counts as an out made, so yes it lowers your batting average. An exception might be Kelly Johnson or Jeff Francoeur as their average is already so low that an additional out sometimes does not lower the average by a full .001.
TnBrian………..my point exactly. Players who have long term success in the Majors are the ones who can make adjustments. Franceour shot like a flame when he first came up because pitchers didnt know how to pitch him. However, that time has long passed. Not only has Franceour failed to make the adjustments……….he cant hit the pitcher’s mistakes.
Look at McClouth. You can tell by the way he swings and turns on a pitch that he “belongs”. The Braves got an absolute STEAL in the trade. Yet many of you would rather see Glavine out there. PATHETIC, but not surprising.
nolie,
I didn’t have to look any of them up. I can name all 24 (yes, I’m a f’n dork). But I think I got it wrong, since Gaylord Perry is one of them. And I can’t remember which of Cy Young, Kid Nichols, Lefty Grove (again, sp?), or Charles Radborn (again, sp?) didn’t play for the Boston (Atlanta) club but played for the Boston (Boston) club. I know John Clarkson played for the Boston franchise that turned into the Braves because I did a research paper on him for my freshmen English class.
On-base percentage is calculated by adding hits, walks and hit-by-pitches and dividing that number by the sum of all at-bats, walks, hit-by-pitches and sacrifice flies.
I learned my lesson yesterday to draw conclusions from three innings work. But I wonder if another solid performance from KK will finally get Bowman to open his eyes and realize this is a guy who keeps us in games almost every start.
And as far as the baseball analysts(sp), I have for the longest time…have repected everything and trusted what he bring to the table as far as rumors, gossip, etc…and that’s Peter Gammons.
I remember back when the 14 year run started, I used to make sure not to miss his *Diamond Notes* on ESPN to hear who might get traded, etc. I know he still talks about who might go where, etc on Baseball Tonight……but his edition of *Diamond Notes* every few days or weeks (can’t remember what it was) back then was always something I looked forward to.
.. but lets look at the facts or stats: his line was 6 innings-6 hits, 3 of those hits left the yard, one was a double by the opposing pitcher. 2 singles,(16 total bases in 6 innings) and all he gets is one compliment after another and don’t you dare criticize his performance, if you critcize you weren’t “watching the game.” Thats crazy, I watched everyone of those HR’s leave the park. By listening to reporters and bloggers I don’t think the guy could have done anything wrong in most peoples eyes once he struck out the side that one time.
You aren’t alone. What you saw in results yesterday was not good. Apparently it is about ,em>stuff not results. You are brave sir to bring this up on this blog. Tommy Hanson can do no wrong…when’s the last time one player was the subject of back to back blogs. If anyone says anything they’ll be savaged liked what went on here yesterday when some poor souls had the audacity to not be impressed they couldn’t even use their normal names. You aren’t alone, many in my office today were scratching their heads too.
You know, the more I think about it the more I realize what a horrifically horrible trade that was for the Pirates to make.
Charlie Morton? Wow. That’s a bad trade. Those other guys haven’t even played in the majors yet. I mean, I understand that that is common but Gorkys isn’t even close to being ready.
All Charlie Morton ever says is how little confidence he has. That’s not something I would really look for in a player if I were a gm. Bad trade for those Pirates. I kind of feel bad for them. My dad was born there, I’ve always kind of liked them in one way or another. Lotta great history. It’s getting more and more historyish by the day.
The future does not look good for Pittsburg. I almost want them to win tonight.
Knowing that pitchers are not going to throw very many strikes to Franceour, it would be a good idea if Bobby Cox told Franceour to not swing at ANY pitches in this next at-bat and see if he can draw a walk.
Yet, when he went to SD, he became a fine hitter against both lefties and righties. (N8)
gonna disagree with that N8. he had a couple of ok years(723 & 753 OPS), a couple of good years(863 & 840 OPS0 and a couple of really crappy years (564 & 609 OPS). Each good year was followed immediately by a crappy year which just means he was still no more that OK just the distribution was skewed. basically he was a 250/330/430 at best hitter even then. certainly not good enough to demand that he play all the time. In Atl “Ice” Williams had three seasons that were all much better than those, r. Big K was pretty much the definition of a successful platoon player. When combined with a good RHer they produced very well.
I just found a program from opening night. Good game that one. Odd to see Glavine on the cover with the other starters.
It’s kind of a rip-off if you ask me. It looked like he was never going to come back after that game last year against the lowly Cubbies. I wanted to see him pitch again. I don’t care if it was the right move or the wrong move, I expected to see him start again and it ain’t happenin’.
Jay, I really don’t know what to say. I haven’t seen him in person but have seen video of him. Scouts like him a lot, obviously. Personally, Matzek would be #1 on my draft board were I the Braves.
Just read on MLBtraderumors.com that the redsox are inquiring mystery Shortstop from the Braves???? it doesnt go into much detail. I know the Braves wont trade Yunel……
I can’t forsee a situation in which they would move Esco, especially with no depth in the minor league system. His overall value (offense and defense) would be very hard to replace.
Trading Yunel would be idiotic. But then again, this is the same team that wanted to bring Furcal back here. Funny, I haven’t read any follow up questions to the Braves brass about his numbers this year, eh?

Starting to see why Garret and Griffey were still available in Spring Training. And that it was more than just the economy.

Now if the Braves wouldn’t give Escobar for Peavy they sure won’t give him up for anyone the BoSox have.

I can’t forsee a situation in which they would move Esco, especially with no depth in the minor league system. His overall value (offense and defense) would be very hard to replace.

he won the Yanks at least 4 games earlier this year and has battled on very well.. he seems like a riot as well

Games against the Pirates should count only as exhibition games. Like if the Braves played Valdosta State.

Trading Yunel would be idiotic. But then again, this is the same team that wanted to bring Furcal back here. Funny, I haven’t read any follow up questions to the Braves brass about his numbers this year, eh?
