Here is the Shanks piece chip is referring to above. If not okay to copy here then by all means, delete (RHR)

Thanks No disrespect meant to you, but it's hard for me to express politely how little respect I have for Bill Shanks after reading and responding to his posts on other blogs for years. And even if true, the Yanks and As won many a game with teams where the players fought all the time. Pretty meaningless one way or the other. Just more blather for the emotional fans.

Schafer was released after a braves front-office meeting. The cost of a tank of gas to Gwinnet was cost prohibitive.

Schafer was taken out behind Turner Field and shot. The front office decided the tank of gas required to send him to Gwinnet was too great.

Hanson will be a trivia question. Wren is a moron for waiving Glavine.

Jackie Treehorn

Francoeur and JoJo.

RHR

Nice story from Shanks.

I would imagine Mr. Schuerholz has pulled some crap in his day as GM in Atlanta and when he was here as GM of the Royals but I bet all situations...(Glavine, Smotlz, Furcal, etc, etc, etc) would've been handled better if he were still GM than Wren.

Frank....actually Wakefield as we know is only around because he can throw that knuckler. Doesn't matter if it is 60MPH.

AGTFan.....4 pitchers that haven't proven they are better yet? OK, they aren't in the HOF but I will take any from among Hanson, Medlen, Morton (was there during all these comparisons), or Campillo. Hell probably others too. Would you really take Glavine for the year over any of those. Moot point now but Hanson will be fine as a #5 after a few starts.

I think what some of you guys that keep talking about Glavine and Maddux "in their primes" not throwing hard or being a power pitcher, need to realize. THEY WERE SPECIAL. Somebody last night stated that we (the Braves) have had 3 300 game winners and none of them threw hard.

You guys realize that there are only 24 players in the 300 win club ALL TIME, right? I'm not disputing that it CAN'T be done. It obviously can.

But the fact that Glavine and Maddux had great careers by NOT having a dominating fastball, or devastating "stuff" (with when discussing these two is a joke - because both of their change-ups and PINPOINT control on their fast ball - is GREAT "stuff", imo), is a testament to their consistency and willingness to throw strikes and put the ball where they want. Pitching to batters' weaknesses and playing to the strengths of their own defenses.

History is littered with MANY pitchers who were dominant/successful due to overpowering fastballs and devastating breaking ("out") pitches.

Outside of knuckleballers (Gaylord, Niekro, Wakefield), there has not been many guys that could frustrate hitters the way Maddux and Glavine did, while pitching to contact, and being efficiant.

How many times have you heard the term "poor-man's" Greg Maddux? Maddux and Glavine were both unique and very special. There is a reason that scouts worried about Maddux being too small, not throwing hard enough, et...

It's because those guys USUALLY don't last long. He and Glavine found a way to make it work. Make it work for a LONG time. Adjust, and ultimately be HOF bound.

The odds of Hanson becoming the next John Smoltz, is more likely than Medlen becoming the next Greg Maddux, imo.

Soriano over Gonzo and it's not even close. Gonzo has been nothing but inconsistent for the Braves for almost a year now. He just isn't a true, shutdown, game-is-over closer.

N8 and RHP - I have always been a Glavine defender, not because I have an axe to grind but because he just knows how to baffle great hitters, he knows how to win and when healthy is the true bulldog in MLB..

Now he pitched in ST very effectively (as far as stats go) and again in 3 rehab starts, I think he had 1 questionabl outing, so if after all of that FW and his scouts are happy to give JoJO, Medlen and Hanson what 8-9 starts between them for 1 win and say GLAV cannot win (when all he does is WIN), it just reaks of idiocy, hypocrisy and JS sticking the knife to GLAV (yet again)...

I will take GLAVINE for a 1/2 season until he PROVES that he cannot get mlb hitters out
