Let’s get one thing straight. Don’t EVER mention Jo-Jo, Hanson and the word “stuff” in the same sentence again. Two of those words belong toether and one (like the old Sesamie Street song said), “doesn’t belong”.
If you think Jo-Jo EVER had stuff like Hanson, somebody’s been lyin’ to you.
Somebody take Francoeur out back and put him out of our misery. He’s gotta go! Now. Yesterday. He’s HORRIBLE.
Has Jeff Franceour every had a day like in the Majors like Chipper has had today (4-4, 2 homers, a triple, a single, 5 RBI’s)?
Runners on first and second, one out…..OH NO, JEFF FRANCEOUR IS UP.
Wow, what a shock! Double play from Jeff Franceour. 0-4 today. And he is batting 5th.
I’ve been saying this for months. When Franceour tries to pull the ball, it is either a grounder to short or a strikeout. If he tries to go the other way, it is either a grounder to second, a weak popout, or…if he is lucky…..a poke to right field for a single.
Other than that homer he hit off Kevin Gregg (who hasnt hit one off him), what has Franceour done in the past 6 weeks?
In this critical executive meeting at Braves HQ, Mr. Scheurholz returns to the conference room with Mr. Cox, who looks sleepy and Mr. Wren, who looks nervous. Mr. Trump begins…
DONALD: Gentlemen, I have just one more question I’d like to ask each of you before we finish our show, uh, meeting. I’ll ask you to keep your answer to one short sentence. Think about your answer very carefully. Your job will depend on the right answer here, and then I’ll make my final decision on who stays and who goes. Understand?
FRANK: What is this? John? Are we being taped for a show? Is this a joke? Are we going to be on TV? How does my hair look?
BOBBY: Uh, what? That’s fine. Any sunflower seeds around?
DONALD: Mr. Wren, as we’ve discussed, this team is losing games and the franchise is losing money. You blamed it all on Bobby. You threw him under the bus, even though he has nothing to do with profitability. Tell me briefly why it’s Bobby’s fault.
FRANK: If we would win games we would make money and I’d look smart.
DONALD: Mr. Cox, why can’t we seem to win more games than we lose?
BOBBY: Game of inches. Hitting it hard right at’em. Good lookin’ kids.
DONALD: Which one of you should I fire?
FRANK: Bobby is responsible for losing. It’s his fault. Fire him.
DONALD: Bobby, Mr. Wren has thrown you under the bus, much like he did with John Smoltz and Tom Glavine. What’s your reply to this charge?
BOBBY: Tommy is a good kid. John’s great., miss him. I’ve been here longer than anyone and won more games than anyone. You can’t fire me because this is all I want to do. What else will I do?
DONALD: Each of you please tell me why you need to be a part of this franchise.
FRANK: Well, expense account is nice. Name brand suits are paid for and the haircuts are free for top execs. Great perks and the TV cameras show me sitting in the booth looking sharp and busy during games. Sometimes my hairdresser comes up there and cuts my hair while I watch golf.
BOBBY: What was the question? Oh, uh, I don’t really like being at the farm. Nothing to do there. The dugout is where I want to be. I like yelling encouragements to the kids at bat.
DONALD: Last question and please keep your answer under four words. Why should I not fire you?
FRANK: Nice suits, good hair.
BOBBY: I like to watch.
DONALD: John, I’ve made my decision but you’ll have to excuse me. I need to take a call.
As John and Terry look on in amazement, Mr. Trump leaves the room to return a call from Arthur Blank.>/em>
At least Francouer puts the ball in play. They cant become hits if he don’t put it in play. I say we need to fire Pendleton and hire Don Baylor or Rudy Jaramillo to replace him.
But you, my friend, are most definitely a coward. Show yourself and stand up for slamming me, or just shut the heck up. Coward.
HAHAHAHAHA! Now if that ain’t the pot calling the kettle black! Add hypocrite liar to panty soaker. Wayne you are not the one to be calling someone out for using a different name and you know it! You’re one of the biggest offenders here.OMG!
I just don’t understand why he was batting fifth today. I mean, come on. I know he is better against left handers, but he just isn’t right and really hasn’t been for something like 2 years. I know he is 25, but again, there is A LOT of players his age doing so much more. I’m sure the Braves are trying to trade him and get what they feel is fair value, but if you want to field the best team possible, well then that’s one with Jeff Francoeur not on it.
Whats funny is every time we have a rain delay we watch 3 hours of the Jeff Francoeur story. The PR department is really making this a bad situation for when we have to trade him. They continue to make him out to be the next murphy or whoever but the frenchy show at every rain delay has got to go too.
Blog favorite Nelson Cruz just hit his 15th homer against Boston. Hard to believe he was put on waivers after spring training last year. Imagine Cruz with Braves instead of Frenchy, the rally killer.
OK , i’m done defending Frenchy, trade him , idc anymore but hell who would want his a$$, he hits into so many double plays and leaves so many runners on i rather have a pitcher hit for him.
Then why don’t we go to a tryout camp and show the scouts our talent on the baseball field and try to get signed so we can take over the spot these guys are in, and start enjoying their salaries? I mean, WE fans get paid for what we do (whatever it is) and we’re probably better at it than any of the Braves players. The fact is that they get paid to play baseball (whether they’re good or bad) until they can’t perform anymore.
Jerry Holcomb, I beleive McLouth has more homeruns than anyone on the Braves roster and his RBI are no less than equal to everybodys. He did this while playing for the Pirates!!!!!!!!! Although the Pirates will probably sweep the Braves in the series.
Hate to break in to the drama…but this game can still be won. The Braves just this week came back late from a much larger deficit. Winning the game..that’s what we counts the most.
…just got in… I guess Chipper should be in the 3-hole, huh? : ) Who would have though we’d get swept by the Brewers with JJ, Javy and Hanson pitching? Should we start selling now?
Efrim, I agree. No excuse for that. Really no excuse to even play him. A lot of work has been done on determining if different lineup combinations can really make that much of a difference, and the results are pretty marginal, but that is a glaring hole in a big spot in our lineup. We have to have someone good hitting fifth.
Pitchers who throw 95 can pitch up in the zone. The key was he threw two pitches up and over the plate to a power hitter. Out of 91 pitches three got hit out. That is probably the most correctable stat there is. Much harder to coax a guy to get it over the plate.
I had typed up a response and it got gobbled up by the blog apparently. Let me sum up exactly what it said. Cox is the least of the problems this team has. In fact, I think you need to look a little more on the surface to the issues with this team. The pitching has been stellar, the hitting has been anything but. What has Bobby done? Mixed up lineups trying to shake this slump. No matter the lineup, the hitting has still been sub par. But people like you need to place the blame elsewhere. Let’s keep it simple. Something NEEDS to spark this offense. I don’t see Bobby getting canned as being that something. Still the same hitters, with the same swings, with the same slumps. What are your credentials again though?
Rob (from SC), good point. Why all of the blame obviously can’t be put on Ross, I thought a couple of the calls for ‘ol #1 were the wrong call…Hanson had just made the hitter look foolish with his slider. I also truly believe Hanson stopped getting the close pitches. I am recording the game and have gone back and watched some pitches from each of the first 5 innings. He was getting pitches in the first couple that he wasn’t getting in the last couple.
someone please invent a time machine and lets go back a decade so we can get warmed up for the world series and make sure you call me up because its gonna be a few more decades before the braves think about the playoffs.
Steve from OH: “We have to have someone good hitting fifth.” Who could we possible get that would change the dynamic of this team? This team is missing a LOT more than a single player.
Like I said, someone has to be blackmailing Braves management. There is no logical reason for Franceour to be playing. He simply cannot hit. Kills pretty much every rally.
I am too much of a Braves fan to be content with Jeff Franceour being thrown out there everyday. I’m going to keep ranting my displeasure until he is either benched, sent down to the minors, traded, or cut.
I can tell you guys why Franceour will be almost impossible to trade. Salary Arbitration. No team wants to pay Jeff Franceour the $5-7 mil that he will be asking for next year. The Braves will end up non tendering him after the season, and another team will probably sign him for the minimum, hoping that they can catch “lightning in a bottle”. However they will soon find out that he is not ever going to hit.
I guess one can call people out all they want (PRYguy) but when the tables are being turned against them, they are going to shut up…..
We all have opinions about certain things, but that’s what makes us different.
I for one, have seen the Braves since 1969. I will always be a Braves fan. However, as fans we have the RIGHT to expect the organization to put the best product available. If we are in a rebuilding mode, then man up and be honest about it. Especially since the bar has been set with 14 straight division titles.
Since PRYguy is unable to come up with my suggestions, I want the rest of the kool-aid drinking, rose-colored glasses wearing Braves never does anything wrong fan to answer the following questions for me…..
Why don’t you tell me what WONDERFUL managerial decisions COX has made this year that has helped this team.
How has his handling of the bullpen HELPED this team?
How has his handling of the lineup HELPED this team?
How has his handling of Franceour HELPED this team?
How has his during game strategy HELPED this team?
At the start of this series with the Brewers, I felt that the Braves would sweep. They had made the trade for Mclouth, released Glavine, and were bringing up Hanson.
I thought surely, this will kick start their run on the division title.
Time for Braves to can frenchy. He cant hit, never could, never will. Time for Braves brass to wake and and get rid of the cancer. Frenchy leads the league in one category – men LOB. Time to bring up someone who cares. Get rid of all who care only about the $$$. First Glavine, next Frenchy. See ya…
the hope of the braves nation rests in your hands mr hanson
June 7th, 2009 3:58 pm
tommy hanson actually pitched well….especially early on. he has a plus fastball and incredible breaking stuff. he is always around the strike zone and that was the problem on a couple of those homeruns. he will learn that he doesnt have to throw strikes on an 0-2 or 1-2 count. i believe two of the homers were hit on those counts. he has the stuff and truly believe he will be special… is he going to help this team this year? i doubt it. roy halladay and johan santan couldnt help this AAA ball club. lets just pray bobby retires after the season and hopefully we can make a run next year. but as far as this team goes, well, there is no other way to put it except to say they are done and we would be extremely lucky to finish fourth in this division…. its a shame.
Chief, I didn’t say anything about what McLouth did with the Pirates. That is old news and in the past. He has had 1 hit this series and all I asked was when will he get his first Atlanta rbi. The question was not meant to spark discussion. Holy sheot!
I thought Hanson did fine today. He showed everyone why he is so highly regarded-his stuff was dynamite. I think he was a little too amped up to start the game-his velocity went from 95-97 to 91-93, and it was those 91 mph fastballs left up over the plate that got whacked. He’ll be fine. As Carroll noted, it’s pretty common for guys to struggle in their first appearance. I’ll judge him after the All Star Break-but I have to say I was encouraged by what I saw.

just look at those clean dominant first three innings.
dominate first three innings is called “first time through the order.” After they saw him once, he was toast!
Hey Frank Before you go and call up another one of your crack pot prospects how about running down the to the store and picking us up another bottle of Ripple
I for the life of me cant figure out why you sit Mccann on the bench when you are in a losing streak. I can see giving him a break on occasion but when we are in a slump of desperate proportions ???
We are in danger of falling out of the whole race. Now is not the time to be sitting people for a rest. Kotchman is out already and we are already playing subpar… We are in danger of being swept and you sit one of your best players. This doesnt sound like Bobby cox is very smart to me.
All you people bashing Frenchy don’t know squat. He’s one of the best players on this team. He is just in a little slump. That’s all. He has the most speed in the outfield, the best arm in the outfield and he is a natural talent. What other Brave made the cover of Sports Illustrated? Tht should mean something. He just needs to work through this slump. He should be batting in the 5th spot so he can protect Chipper.
Wayne why don’t you STFU! You know what I said was right. Hanson was hyped as being ready right now. If you can go back and find anyone besides me who tried to lower expectations then go ahead. This is another great lesson in why we should never overhype a prospect. If that lesson upsets you, I can live happily with that.
Just like you don’t need credentials to state YOUR opinion.
Too many times, when a change is made, the team catches fire.
Yes I’ll give you the point that Cox continually changes the line-up. However IT ISN’T working, so just because it’s not working, doesn’t mean he’s off the hook. In fact it’s just the opposite.
You are the HEAD PERSON. IT BEGINS AND STOPS WITH YOU.
PEOPLE LOOK UP TO YOU TO LEAD.
IF YOUR LINE-UP ISN’T WORKING, THEN YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG
One doesn’t need to be an “expert” to enjoy something.
I’m certainly no expert on women, but I sure do enjoy being around them.
If anyone wonders why the minor leagues are called MINOR, today’s pitching exhibition should school you. The kid pitched well, excellently for a AAA start, but the difference in the ML’s and AAA is a canyon wide and deep. He’s gonna’ be a great one I believe, but he’s gotta’ get schooled and learn. HANSON will make ML hitters pay one day, but this is not that day.
Hanson got in trouble when AHEAD in the count. Kyle Davies used to do the same thing. Kyle didn’t have an “out pitch” that he could put batters away, when ahead.
By all accounts of his “stuff” (from Bobby, Roger and even DOB this spring), Hanson does NOT lack any “out pitches” to put guys away.
Just going to have to learn when to use which ones, and definitely locate better against major league hitters.
Like I said earlier, judging on his past “adjustments” after slow starts at each level, he appears fully capable of adujusting in the “Show”.
Nice job by McCann. Everybody still remembering the run that didn’t get pushed across after Chipper’s triple?

Oh, and BTW…Jeff sucks.

I over estimated, at least for the short term.

tommy hanson actually pitched well….especially early on. he has a plus fastball and incredible breaking stuff. he is always around the strike zone and that was the problem on a couple of those homeruns. he will learn that he doesnt have to throw strikes on an 0-2 or 1-2 count. i believe two of the homers were hit on those counts. he has the stuff and truly believe he will be special… is he going to help this team this year? i doubt it. roy halladay and johan santan couldnt help this AAA ball club. lets just pray bobby retires after the season and hopefully we can make a run next year. but as far as this team goes, well, there is no other way to put it except to say they are done and we would be extremely lucky to finish fourth in this division…. its a shame.

I’ve never claimed to be an expert.
