As far as I’m concerned with mcclouth we stick jordan in left next year
Rob (from SC)
Morton and Schafer for McLouth seem fair?
June 3rd, 20097:12 pm
I wonder if schafer is involved in that deal?
Is there moves happening?
Is this Heaven?
DOB please tell us that we are not trading Heyward or
I can’t count how many times I have read “we have released another future hall of famer”, I don’t care if he is a future president of the USA. Right now I find it very hard to believe that anybody will make a solid argument that Glavine is the best arm we can throw out there on the fifth day. We have hanson waiting and hudson rehabing. I know the situation sucks, but one day we are all fed up that we are losing and Wren is not doing everything possible to field the best team, and the next day we have everyone whining because we didn’t let him pitch one game so that we would have the liberty of paying him a million dollars. I am a Glavine fan, and I am a Smoltz fan, but at the end of the day I am a BRAVES fan and that is what is important to me, FIELD THE BEST TEAM!!! That is what this is about, anything less would be not doing their job. The GM has to make tough decisions and as long as he is making these decisions for the best of the team then he is doing his job. Glavine did the best thing for himself and his family when he went to the METS, and Wren did the right thing today for the Braves, lets all move on and enjoy be BRAVES fans.
I hope DOB’s messing around….It would be classic. DOB rules…
Hey, its about time this team started trying to compete! I LOVE IT!
I was there. At the meeting. The meeting with Tommy, JS, Wren and Stempy.
In my heart, I feel bad about the Glavine situation — fond memories of lots of great Braves’ moments. But….my head says that it was unlikely that he was going to have much left and that other pitching options are better. One thing to remember is that Hudson’s rehab is going fairly well and might be available in mid-August. If the youngsters (Hanson, Medlin, etc.) don’t do well, then Hudson can be in the rotation down the stretch.
It would only make sense if schafer went i guess

Braves get McLouth
Brian Jordan is ticked at how the Braves handled the Glavine thing (TNBRIAN)
Brian Jordan is an idiot, why expect anything else?
McLouth is a BRAVE!!!!! http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09154/974921-100.stm
McLouth’s number are not great, but much better than what we have
Yunel's Frosted Tip's
June 3rd, 20097:14 pm
Wren’s been drinking, we gone make several deals, may resign Avery and Charlie Leibrandt just so we can cut ‘em again
The deal is for three prospects, according to the Post-Gazette. Hanson is not in it(obviously).
TBF(n)K as Billy
I knew soon as I herd the the glavine stuff something else was up
The Mclouth story
Steve from OH
If I had to guess, it would be Morton/G. Hernandez/Richard Sullivan
Remember people – get excited when the ink is on the paper!
surely we dont release glavine and then send medlen and morton away 10 minutse later
The Pirates’ top prospect is CF Andrew McCutchen. The Pirates don’t need Schafer, so I’m guessing they’re getting a couple of pitchers and, oh, how about Freeman?
Schafer and/or Gorkys is sure to be in the deal, IMO….
June 3rd, 20097:15 pm
I didn’t think Glavine had anything left, but I am appalled by how they handled this. He deserved better. Much better.
Who is going to the burg?
My guess is Morton and Gorkys are included
Yes!! Braves are back in the thick of things!! Mcloouuutthhhh!!
McLouth is signed through 2011 with a $10.65 million team option for 2012.
we better not trade Heyward or Hanson. I am afraid because Heyward has not played in days. Is he really injured
Nate in Maine
The Braves Acquire Nate Mclouth (sp?) from Pitt just now wonder what they gave up???? Look at mlbtraderumors.com
Finally, a move that makes baseball sense! Hanson and Medlen and Morton have all performed way better than Glavine this year. Therefore there is no reason to bring in Glavine. Sorry, but you get no sentimental credit after leaving for the Mets and your maximum paycheck. What goes around comes around.
And McLouth is great, could be interesting.
Good point, Chop Chop. I forgot about that.
June 3rd, 20097:16 pm
This is a business, and Glavine knows it. Any current loyalty he may have otherwise deserved from the fans and the Braves organization was negated back when he left for the Mets.
McLouth has big time range in CF…remember last year in Pit? Not exactly thrilled about the way he did Glavine at the last minute, but gotta give him credit for getting an All-Star CF.
I cannot believe you folks……You are all talking of trading Schafer – he was our winter ICON……Patience IS a virtue….Jesus H.
Savannah Guy: “Some of you people that see Tom Glavine as a traitor because he betrayed the team and left to play for the Mets for a few more pieces of silver are living in some kind of myopic, naive, alternate universe. Did you Glavine bashers ever bother to look at the facts of the story or are you just that shallow? Glavine couldn’t work out a deal with John Schuerholz and Glavine took the rap.”
BS like you said he went for a relatively few more $ but nothing significant. He basically bowed down to the union who insisted he take the better deal cause it would “look bad” if he didnt (TG was a union rep back then), and put his family through hell with all the commuting etc. just so he could stick it to the Braves.
Good riddance…loyalty works both ways.
Can’t say I disagree with letting Glavine go, but NOW??? It is simply unprofessional! I have been a lifelong Braves fan and can’t understand many moves the front office has made through the years. However, no one could ever say Schurholtz was unprofessional in his approach. Wren should be ashamed of letting Tommy fully rehab, declare he was ready to start this weekend and THEN let him go. It really makes me sick. A sad day for us as we will have egg on our face all over the National Media for the immediate future. Also, realize that potential free agents will look at this situation and question joining our club down the road because of it. Just sorry, UNPROFESSIONAL TIMING!!
Nate would lead our team in homers.
June 3rd, 20097:17 pm
Momentum has carried over into tonight…Kelly with a double…
bowman says locke, gorkys, and maybe morton
Can’t go to the game on Saturday…we’re booked…
Nate McLouth??? Who would we be giving up for him??
Sorry, meant to put Wren in that last post. Kinda sounded like I meant McLouth.
We need to bring the fences in about 20 feet.
Braves on their Toes
Kelly with a lead-off. Look for a stoic, ass-kickin’ performance from Los Bravos.
McLouth strikes out only 17% of the time. Better than 40%
Hell yes……i was already happy to be going to Saturday’s game but now this is gonna be awesome
good riddance, overpaid, under worked union boy. Old meat doesn’t have a place. Don’t come back tommyG
June 3rd, 20097:18 pm
geez kelly… man if he can ever average out the streakiness… he would be one hell of a player. i think he already is personally
Funny how Glavine is ALREADY getting to be old news….
We shouldn’t have signed him in the first place, but now we’re covering our tracks and wasting 1 million dollars by releasing him? PWHjort
do you ever know anything about what you post about? They aren’t wasting 1mill , he doesn’t get paid unless he makes the 25 roster which he now won’t. They are saving 1 mill. . please learn something about baseball other that that theoretical crap you are always spouting.
Morton, Locke, Gorkys
McLouth > Nady >>>>>>>>>> Swisher > Greg White
Morton, Locke, and Gorkys
Morton/Locke/Gorkys for Mclouth
Confirmed for those three
McLouth! I was just thinking that as excited as I am about Hanson, pitching is not our problem! It’s hitting! I hope we are going after even another bat. I really do.
And I agree with you guys. I don’t feel sorry for Glav. I appreciate all he’s done, but we want to WIN!
June 3rd, 20097:19 pm
Nate McLouth? The one with the .256 batting average this year, lifetime a few points higher?
And we’re doing cartwheels? Hmmm…
locke morton and G hernandez….good trade
glavine=old junk. Overpaid, underworked, paid too much. bye.
Braves get McLouth for Charlie Morton, minor-league outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, and minor-league pitcher Jeff Locke.
Locke and Hernandez is ok, I wouldn’t trade Morton
You guys are gonna love McLouth. Leadoff speed, hits for average, decent power, Gold Glove, he’s the real deal. Now, tell this Pirates fan about the prospects you think are heading to the Iron City…..
We’re going to win some games, peoples.
Braves get Nate McLouth according to MLB
Those are the three prospects according to Bowman.
If true, that’s a steal.
Braves ACQUIRED Nate McClouth!
It’s Morton, Gorkys and Locke
Charlie Morton, Jeff Locke, Gorkys Hernandez for McLouth.
that was a lot to give up imo
Bowman says, “Charlie Morton, left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez” for McLouth
Seems pretty much of a coincidence that rumors of McClouth fly the same day they do the Glavine deal. Smoke and mirrors maybe to deflect the criticism?
And agreeing with many here who say the Braves shouldn’t have signed Glavine in the first place. The mistake was to sign him, then let him rehab before cutting his throat.
June 3rd, 20097:20 pm
I’m doing cartwheels over his 25+ homers last year, and he IS a young player alos don’t forget that
Sh1t – ive been reading WAY too much Chuck Palahniuk….
The Braves are making it very difficult for me to throw together the very simple meal I’m trying to prepare – I can’t stay away from the blog.
WREN’S WRETCHED MOVE
I just heard the news as I tuned into the Braves game tonight on MLB internet radio.
First Smoltz! Now Glavine!
This GM is cutthroat! Where’s the loyalty? You just don’t treat people this way!
This move makes me sick to my stomach. Frank makes me sick to my stomach. It’s the same kind of feeling I had when I first heard that Smoltz was traded.
This GM doesn’t deserve our support. I would really like to see Frank now told that he’s no longer a part of the Braves organization. The man has lost all my respect.
Tom deserved to return! Tom deserved BETTER!
Thanks for your great career as a Brave Tom! Sign on with the Phillies — and show Frank up.
McLouth and Medlan, Hanson, Heyward and Freeman still here. Nice Wren!
June 3rd, 20097:21 pm
As long as McLouth is good, that’s a good deal for the Braves. If not, we’ll have roast Wren for dinner.
wow, great move by Wren, completely changes our outlook on the season
Did we give up too much??? I thought Locke and Gorkeys were supposed to be special?
McClouth plays like an Atlanta Braves would ya know…he fits the Braves mold
NEWS Braves get Nate McLouth…. for Morton, Gorkys and minor league pitcher
where does this leave Schafer
morton hernandez, locke it was just announced.
We just got Nate McClouth from Pittsburgh!
DOB I TOLD YOU SO.
THEY TRADED GORKYS…but we got a good player
June 3rd, 20097:22 pm
Morton I think is a decent 3/4 type starter. G. Hernadez is a good but not elitee CF prospect with speed. Locke no clue
We got ourselves a 25/25 guy folks
“As long as McLouth is good, that’s a good deal for the Braves. If not, we’ll have roast Wren for dinner.”
Can’t have our cake and eat it too…
Savannah Guy, Glavine was maxing out at 84 MPH two years ago with the Mets. What part of 43 years old and coming off of elbow and shoulder surgery don’t you understand?
I like Nate McClouth!
How long before McLouth m,akes everyone forget about ever having Glavine?
Gorkys Hernandez, Jeff Locke, Charlie Morton for Nate McLouth (according to Braves site)
So what does this mean for Schaefer? Who do we trade him to now and what could we get for him?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
