DOB:
Is there some little controversy or misunderstanding going on between the Braves and TommyG.

First Carroll said that Wren wasnt ready to commit to Tommy starting on this homestand. I understand that if Medlen were to start this Saturday, Glavine could take his spot next time around and that be on this homestand(Thurs against Pit).

Glavine wanted to stat at Atlanta after his previous rehab start and they sent him back to Rome for another one. Now this.“I don’t know what else I can do,” said Glavine,…..I’d love to get to Atlanta and help the team”.Thats what he said after his Rome game. I might be reading a little too much between the lines, but he seems to be unsure of the Braves’ plans.
Any thoughts…

Wasn’t there a big comeback in a game against Baltimore in 04 or 05 that helped the team really get on a roll?

Surprised that Bobby hasn’t found a start or two for Norton at 1st or OF as he did in past years to try to get him seeing the ball. Guess he feels the defense is not worth it.

II Cattivo: I believe there has been talk of him taking Kawakami’s next start. KK would then just miss this time through the rotation and that would give 5 more days until something else had to be done.

After Medlen’s last start I can’t imagine Braves brass not seeing him go out and try to build off of it.

I thought KK pitched well again last night, he just got victimized by some shotty defense and Wells’s attempted no hit bid. Frenchy was clutch and Loaf was doing what he normally does, professionally hitting.

The story was the dominance of the Bullpen! Moylan, Gonzo and Soriano were just dominant.

Given the lack of Chipper, Kotch, and Anderson, wouldn’t this be a great night to bat Kelly lower in the order? It seems like Blanco could give an equal possibility for success in the leadoff spot, whereas KJ could give more potential to drive in runs lower in the order.

Agreed, but sprained wrists can linger. Especially when used like he does everyday. While not totally incapacitating, it certainly could impact Jordan’s ability to hit fastballs.

In terms of today’s lineup, Anderson’s been swinging a hot bat and has hit lefties well over the course of his career. Why not keep him in the lineup, start Diaz at 1B, and Prado at 3B. I’d rather have Anderson’s bat in the lineup than Hernandez’s.

I was at the KJ pop-up game last year and it SURELY seemed like a 3 month long HANG-OVER followed. Many of us on this blog felt that it WAS the beginning of the end for the Bravos last year. Not QUITE ready to say this is the beginning of a BEAUTIFUL thing, but we are CERTAINLY better off for that THRILLING win.

Was VERY happy with Frenchie, both in the field and at the plate. I LOVED Escobar’s steal of second. Not sure if we would have won otherwise. Soriano BLEW the cubbies away. Chipper came through and it was HILARIOUS watching the post-game celebration. Frenchie looked so happy and ENTHUSIASTIC. Brought back GREAT memories. I am excited about this team again and HOPE it can carry over into the season.

Thanks DOB for the blog. Look forward to it EVERY day!

DOB-Get any sense what the Braves are looking to do with their first pick?

Obviously it depends on who is available, but this pick is important. They have a chance to get an impact player.

If you were a betting man, do they select a HS pitcher?

TnBrian

Shane, what did they say Escobar do last night besides be a smart player and fake getting hit because the pitcher was throwing a no-hitter? You gotta get on base to score runs, sometimes whatever it takes to get on base.

How about Soriano throwing his bat towards the Braves dugout after admiring his leadoff HR? Should he get knowcked on his a** for that?

I still think that KK or Javier could get moved especially if the Braves fall out of contention. We have way too much money tied up in our staff, especially if Huddie comes back healthy. Medlen and Hanson will be ready next year, even Morton. There are way too many teams that could use quality arms like JV and for the most part KK. JV would be the ace on the Nationals staff today. Both would crack any teams 5 man rotation

MiltonDawg,

Today is not the day to wish Frenchy to AAA. He just had a gigantic 9th inning game tying homerun.

As DOB questions in the blog, which direction will last nights’ win catapult the Braves?, likewise, what effect will Frenchy’s heroics have on the rest of his season?

I’m hoping that it’s an awakening for him, and that he goes on a hot streak where he becomes the player that everyone expects him to be.

Go Bravos!!!

Did I miss something or is there suddenly a law invoked in MLB that a switch hitter has to hit right handed against a left handed pitcher. If the poor baby Chipper’s toe is still bothering him when he swings right handed then bat lefty against the lefty instead of wimping out and not playing. Finding a way to play at all costs is what a true team leader does, but I guess not Chipper.

For those of you who think asking Chipper to turn around and hit lefty just too stay in the lineup is such a stupid idea, there have been plenty of switch hitters that have done it. I remember on more than one occassion, switch hitters batting lefthanded against Tom Glavine just to take his change up away and there have been other examples of switch hitters hitting on the opposite side for various reasons. So it can be done and I find it hard to believe that at no point in Chipper’s life has he hit lefthanded against a lefty.
