Coach (Moon Pie, anyone?)
June 1st, 200912:02 am
Carl Pavano is about to be traded. Don’t be surprised if he lands in Philly.
Dude is 5-4 with an ERA of 5.29 for the season and 5-1 in May while sporting a 3.60 ERA this month. His 09 contract is all of 1.5 million. The Indians made a wise invest and are about to reap the dividends.
June 1st, 200912:03 am
I don’t know. I actually think he was being mature about it. He said he realized he was being an idiot.
Eric – I really hope we don’t trade him. Like I’ve said before, his potential greatly outweighs his trade value. He has the potential to be a superstar, but trade value will only get a decent prospect or average major leaguer at best.
June 1st, 200912:06 am
Damn,Florida State Baseball put up 37 on Ohio State today in the NCAA playoffs
Frank from KS
June 1st, 200912:07 am
I hope your right.
Frenchy’s had his chance to turn it around. That time has come and passed.
I hope he’s traded…if not tomorrow…then sometime soon this season.
June 1st, 200912:08 am
I was hoping Paramore (with theit Twilight song)would beat Miley Cyrus for best song RHR
Aww…I really wanted Paramore to win, too. Dang…
June 1st, 200912:09 am
COACH – why do you feel the need to rehash news from other sites for us. Believe it or not we don’t sit here on the blog all day waiting for you to tell us what is happening elsewhere in the sports world. We all have Explorer/Firefox browsers too and can read all the news we want for ourselves.
Funny that on a day when the Braves kicked a$$ all you can do is try to talk about other teams players. Why don’t you say something nice about Medlen’s performance today?
B/c you’re basically just a negative nellie who only pretends to be a fan when in reality you only wish for the bad things to happen.
Your life must truly be pathetic.
June 1st, 200912:14 am
thought they were neat as heck. And handy. Random
It sure is. I use it all the time during the summer. I actually enjoy going outside and killing wasps…it makes my day.
RHR – I have not read the books, but the series is great (and it returns in two weeks). (Vinings Jim)
yes it was pretty good. weeds and Burn Notice return soon too.
BTW I Hate your screen name. My ex-wife’s last name was Vining and and I did not get along with her parents(especially father) at all.
June 1st, 200912:15 am
The CAPT. goes OFF on the COACH. I can’t wait for a retort.
June 1st, 200912:18 am
Burn Notice…great show
June 1st, 200912:19 am
Burn Notice return soon too. nolie
I love Burn Notice.
June 1st, 200912:20 am
I guess that would include me too. I’m mentioned stuff about my home state Royals…as well as stuff like Oswalt just a few minutes ago.
I apoligize then.
June 1st, 200912:21 am
I still love ya, though. A little payback, perhaps? After all, you were dissing on Schafer a few days ago. That’s right. I never forget. Never.
June 1st, 200912:23 am
I just got done watching Star Wars. I’m trying to decide whether or not I should wait until tomorrow to watch the second one…
June 1st, 200912:24 am
“I’ve mentioned stuff about my home state Royals….”
Hey CBF, you’re a sci-fi gal right? Do you like Fringe? I think it’s pretty decent. Sanctuary isn’t too bad either but I like Fringe better. Also hyped for another season of Dexter
June 1st, 200912:25 am
Brian McCann develops an IQ of 1450 becomes a Yale nerd and makes a serious fashion statement.
June 1st, 200912:26 am
Is that what you think teams do during off days? Go shopping? As if Frank Wren had been meaning to head to the store, but has been too busy? But now that he has that whole day, look out for a blockbuster!
JD, this made me laugh out loud for a good minute straight. My eyes even got watery lol good stuff.
June 1st, 200912:27 am
Episode 5 is actually my favorite- if you’ve got no plans tomorrow I’d stay up and watch it
Love, love, love Fringe and Sanctuary! I actually just started watching Sanctuary last season and really like it (BBC America has some great shows…check out Primeval if you like that sort of thing). I also enjoyed Dexter but I don’t get Showtime anymore and the watered down version has no appeal to me
June 1st, 200912:29 am
The original first three movies of the trilogy…*A New Hope*, *Empire Strikes Back*, *Return of the Jedi* are the best of the whole trilogy.
It pains me to hear about Smoltz doing so well in his rehabs. This is exactly why my eyes welted up when he went to Boston. The guy is a tough competitor and he’ll prove it over the next few years. The good news is: it appears we have some young impact arms either coming up or waiting in the wings.
Caveat: Don’t be surprised if we get a Frenchy trade announcement tomorrow.
June 1st, 200912:31 am
Hey Roman Gal, I agree with the thing you quoted at 12:08 but that was Jim with the Twilight knowledge and Jim watching the MTV movie awards. I didn’t even know they were on and I have 2 teenagers in the house lol.
June 1st, 200912:32 am
But I do know my Twilight! I will grudgingly cop to that in this public forum.
June 1st, 200912:33 am
Maybe theres an obvious reason I’m missing but if Jeff was indeed traded why would they keep it under wraps until tomorrow?
June 1st, 200912:36 am
The original first three movies of the trilogy are the best of the whole trilogy.
Are the first the other 3 good, though? I’m still going to watch them, so I don’t know why I’m asking…
June 1st, 200912:37 am
I do know my Twilight! I will grudgingly cop to that in this public forum. RHR
I also saw you reference Gossip Girl a few weeks ago. That’s ok…you won’t get any grief from me. I absolutely love both of those. By the way, I did find the New Moon trailer online.
June 1st, 200912:38 am
Look at the way the Mets let Willie Randolph go. Long after a night game of theirs…and it was announced the next day..(if memory serves correctly).
Not saying this is how the Braves would go about a Frenchy trade tho.
Just using that as an example of what has happened or could be happening.
June 1st, 200912:42 am
I also enjoyed Dexter but I don’t get Showtime anymore and the watered down version has no appeal to me (CBF)
many channels now have it set up that you can watch episodes free on your computer if that doesn’t bother you. I’m not sure about showtime, you might check it out. There are also P2P sites like ThePiratesBay where you can download every TV show around, though those sites are technically illegal. Not sure what the difference is between copying one on your DVR and downloading one??
June 1st, 200912:43 am
if Jeff was indeed traded why would they keep it under wraps until tomorrow?
Maybe they’re trying to see how long the front office can keep stuff a secret. You know…kinda like a drill. They failed pretty miserably with it during the offseason. I’ll bet they have a new approach to their secrecy and are trying to see how long it can last.
Yeah, the NEW three movies kinda gets ya up to the point of the original three and how Darth Vader comes about, how Luke and Leila are separated and don’t figure out their brother/sister until Return of the Jedi…among other things that are told in the new first three.
June 1st, 200912:47 am
how Luke and Leila are separated and don’t figure out their brother/sister until Return of the Jedi…
WHAT?! They’re brother and sister?!?
June 1st, 200912:49 am
Yes they are.
Okay, I’ll shuddup. Don’t want to give away too much more.
that’s a good point- I’ll look into it. Thanks!
June 1st, 200912:50 am
Mind you all speculation, but, my reasoning for it is: The kids several thousand miles from home and 2 – it would be best to break that news on an off day. Again, I don’t know, but Bowman’s blog was written with such certainty ( for Bowman ) that it makes one wonder.
Ed Westwick and Chace Craw…err I mean Gossip Girl is good stuff..I mean, a good show.
Is the trailer that 14 second clip that surfaced online a few days ago? I mean, not that I’ve seen that or anything…just wondering.
Alright that’s enough embarrassing admissions from me for one day. Night yall..
June 1st, 200912:51 am
Aww, man! I was wondering at the end of the movie which one she was going to choose…
Everyone that’s left on the ole blog, that is.
June 1st, 200912:53 am
No, it’s a little over a minute and a half. It certainly makes this movie seem better than the first. AND, before I leave, I heard that Chace Crawford is going to be in footloose! I have a hard time imagining that…
June 1st, 200912:56 am
Because I know I’m not the only one…
June 1st, 200912:57 am
That Braves team that played today can flat out hit, the problem is every 3 out of 4 days imposters show up pretending to be actual Braves hitters.
June 1st, 200912:58 am
Ohio State is lucky that the Seminoles have a classy baseball coach in Mike Martin, otherwise I believe we woulda cracked 50…the bench was emptied in the 5th inning with pitchers playing the field, in some cases for the first time in their college career, and we still scored 5 more runs, and after 7 martin pleaded with the umpires to just call the game…thats just sad when you think about it
June 1st, 20091:02 am
If anybody is a Supernatural fan, this might be the last season, both the boys are talking about wanting to leave. Course it might just be negotiation talk. I don’t think it is as good as it was the first 3 years. Also Chuch is coming back, but they are cutting costs. Less scenes with the BuyMore guys, which I will miss.
Ok, time for me to go…Roman Gal- enjoy Star Wars!
June 1st, 20091:30 am
“…you’re basically just a negative nellie who only pretends to be a fan when in reality you only wish for the bad things to happen.”
Woah! Wait just a minute Mr. Caveman! There is only room for one person like that on the blog. I staked my claim to that title….er….never mind.
Coach can have it.
June 1st, 20091:48 am
Entertaining humor and banter on the blogorama tonight. Just fired up the fading PowerBook here at aeroporte, got an 11:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. EDT) flight.
Went to see a very good movie, Rudo y Cursi, at a theatre in downtown Phoenix after the game. Highly recomnend it to anyone who liked Y Tu Mama Tambien. Same guys are in it, and it’s also set in Mexico. It’s about a couple of poor brothers who get discovered by a sleezy, well-connected scout/agent while playing soccer on a dirt field out in the boonies. He takes them both to the big city, gets them contracts with pro teams, they become big stars on competing teams in that soccer-mad country, and both get caught up in various pursuits (women, cocaine, gambling) that leads to their downfall, etc.
Great story, and there’s a beautiful Latin actress in it.

It wasn’t Paz Vega was it Dave? She’s smokin hot.
June 1st, 20092:14 am
I know this is blasphemy ’round here, but PLEASE Frank, do NOT trade any young pitching for a bat at this time… Its a young season folks…(kinda makes me want to whistle peter bjorn..) but anywho, its early, and the Bravos have IMO a solid lineup when the top produces…Say what u want about Jeff, or any of the OF, but with our pitching our D will win enough games to keep us in this. If what I have learned about baseball over my few years is that pitching will ALWAYS prevail in the long run…
So to the people freaking out so soon in the season, smoke one or two, sit back , and enjoy the game of baseball….It is WAAAAYYYY to early to stress yourself out!! The Braves WILL be in the thick come Sept..even with a so called weak outfield..(Which I disagree with, but is a whole other peach)
June 1st, 20092:27 am
I caught the Star Wars talk and thought ya’ll should know, George Lucas is a sell out. He changed the script after the first Flick in 77 after Harrison Ford stole the spotlight. Luke and Leia were not originally brother and sister in the first film as evidenced by the kiss they shared.
Lucas changed everything because of the popularity of Ford. Originally, Luke was supposed to the love interest of Leia. Lucas rewrote their characters to be brother and sister for the second film in 1980 (Return of the Jedi). Han Solo became Leia’s paramour and the rest as they say is history.
June 1st, 20093:08 am
Ok, I’m thinking it was a bad idea to watch The Empire Strikes Back tonight because now I have to watch the NEXT one!
You must unlearn what you have learned. Well, Yoda, it’s too late for that now, isn’t it! And of course now I know Luke and Leia are brother and sister…
June 1st, 20093:11 am
I know this is blasphemy ’round here, but PLEASE Frank, do NOT trade any young pitching for a bat at this time…
Alvin, I don’t think that would be considered blasphemy. In fact, I think many here want the same things you want.
June 1st, 20093:12 am
He changed the script after the first Flick in 77 after Harrison Ford stole the spotlight. Coach
Who knew Harrison Ford was such a hottie back in the day?

I don’t even know where the closest one to me is. I’m thinking at least an hour and a half. I remember getting it when we went to the new one that opened in Macon a few years ago. (I’m sure you know where that is…) It’s really big.
I wonder if there’s a limit to the number of times a person can post something in a row?

No Politics, is it so hard to understand?
June 1st, 20096:01 am
I, for one, vote to permanently IP ban Random and A-Ville Ranger for inserting an uncomfortable amount of politics and religion on this Braves blog. Both have shown themselves to be extremists: A-Ville Ranger for bring the subject up and Random for being so riled by the comment he just had to reply.
Kick both these bums out.
June 1st, 20096:10 am
Random– Good work calling A-ville’s buddies the terrorists they are. No difference in these religious fundamentalists whatever religion they call themselves. The various groups like “Operation Rescue” are disgraceful and this is not the first time they have engaged in such double talk when their supporters commit murder.
June 1st, 20096:13 am
In the past couple of weeks you’ve been talking about signs of Anderson coming around. His stats with the Angels show a similar pattern to his time with the Braves…takes a while to warm up and gets hotter as the season moves on.
Bravos only 4 games back. I still like their chances. The Phils and Mets have taken some hits with significant injuries, which is going to eventually tell on their other players who are holding the fort. Yeah, we got swept by the Giants…but that may not be as bad as it first seems…I think bloggers underestimated them…they have a better record than the Braves and just knocked off the Cards in a three game series.
June 1st, 20096:29 am
No Politics, is it so hard to understand? (June 1st, 2009 6:01 am) –
Hey, I didn’t start it, and I did try to “go by the book” (”Report this comment “) in having the initial comment removed.
That didn’t work. So I did respond, after sleeping on it.
I’d be tickled pink if all three comments were removed — A-ville Ranger’s 11:35 pm, Eric from MO’s 11:58 pm and my 5:42 am response.
But premeditated murder isn’t “politics” OR “religion”. The celebration of premeditated murder is inappropriate in any civilized forum.
June 1st, 20096:34 am
Random, my apology was for bringing a serious subject to an escapist blog, not for my opinion. As for ”celebrating premeditated murder”, that’s a bit overstated.I’ll repeat though, I don’t feel his death is a negative thing.
June 1st, 20096:49 am
Oh, wow, now this is some light conversation for 6 a.m. Can we at least do what the talk radio stations do, and wait ’til the morning drive is over before we delve into murder, abortion, and terrorism? At 6 a.m., I kinda prefer to hear the wacky morning zoo deejay ….. or to read Scoots making sense of it all.
June 1st, 20097:32 am
So Philly wants Peavy but he’s all set to turn them down too. At this point, I’d say he’s a fan of the west coast and is probably going to turn down everything until he gets a call from the Dodgers. And I had no idea until reading that that the Phils increased their payroll 30 million from last year.
June 1st, 20097:40 am
DOWN ON THE FARM:
Since last report cracks have appeared in GERARDO RODRIGUEZ’ game. The 21 year old first baseman for ROME was sailing along with a .300+ BA and some extremely good looking power numbers. However, in early May, his BA fell to the mid-.250’s. He has begun to recover slowly over the past week or so, and currently has a .266 average with 173 AB for the season. His power numbers have dropped off as well and SO’s have climbed. Still, GERARDO’s 7 2B, 5 3B, 9 HR, .309 OBP, .520 SLG, and .829 OPS are promising. It’s too soon to indicate whether the hole or holes in his hitting are being remedied. Hopefully we’ll see him move up sometime next year to MYRTLE.
June 1st, 20098:01 am
Hell, if I was either Peavy or Oswalt…..I’d be open to going to the Rangers.
Even with their loss yesterday, the Rangers are still leading the AL West and are 10 games over .500.

Bit of a spirited debate last evening and this morning-about spiders.
Monty at 12:57-Really!!!
June 1st, 20098:57 am
Braveheart, somehow I’m feeling a little “sense”-less these days, but, I’ll try to do better, LOL.
Too much readiness to trade near-ready pitching on here. Morton and Hanson are a two-headed AAA monster, yet Morton’s name gets dropped a lot by posters here as trade bait, while Hanson is sacrosanct in the same eyes. All that “depth” that bloggers hail is more a reflecting pool, if one starts moving Reyes/Morton/Medlen in trades. The rest of the better pitching prospects are too far away.
Me, personally? I’d like to see Hanson and Morton stay in AAA all year, and maintain their current results (naturally). Then, start ‘em both at the back of the 2010 rotation, where expectations are lower. With Lowe, Hudson, and Jurrjens fronting. Sign Hudson to a three-year, buy out Jurrjens’ arb years, and wait for some of those lower-level prospects to push somebody out.
June 1st, 20099:02 am
JJ – yep, we should be buying him out as long term as possible while he is still semi-ripe fruit
June 1st, 20099:18 am
Dang man, you are talking sense at 8:57? No fire him, or bench him? Just rational baseball talk?
Frankly, I agree with you! Thanks for posting something that is contrary to he “me now” generation and makes baseball sense…..
Steve from OH
June 1st, 20099:20 am
Scoots–I agree! I’d like to keep Morton in the rotation as well. Loved the kid’s stuff when I saw him and he keeps producing at AAA. However, what do you think we should do about KK, and do you think Boras will be willing to work out an extension for JJ?
Eric from MO
Scoots why would you keep Hanson down all year? Once it is past the point where this wont count as his first year why would leave him down? He has already accomplished everything you can in the minors. Also he isnt a kid, he is 22 almost 23. There is no reason to leave him down all year.
June 1st, 20099:29 am
However, what do you think we should do about KK, and do you think Boras will be willing to work out an extension for JJ?
Steve-OH, no idea and no idea, LOL. Frank has to work out the details, I’m just a strategic overview guy.
Patron Saint of the Lost Art
June 1st, 20099:43 am
The Ballpark at Arlington plays much like the Coors Field of Texas. This could be a potential drawback.
Scoots, not bad at 8:57. I sure hope Huddy is throwing well enough to where we want to hand him a three year extension.
Steve from OH, it’s over. I’ve never seen more breaks go one team’s way. I’m pretty suprised at how many of the Wings players are actually admitting that. Melrose, Barnaby, Lebrun, Burnside and every other ESPN analyst are killing the Pens, but I think they are just mad because it is going to be a short series. They wanted a Game 7 and they aren’t going to get it. The NBC guys have been a lot more realistic. The Pens have outshot the Wings and haven’t received many bounces. The Wings will beat them in 5 games. Just too deep and experienced. The question is, will the Red Wings lose again, like, ever?
June 1st, 20099:44 am
Sorry I missed your post! That’s funny! I like that–thanks for telling me. Braves could use some feistiness. Apparently it does some good, ’cause other times when guys have been feisty the team comes up with a good win.
Seriously? Francoeur only has five walks? Dang…I did not know that.
Uh-oh…I dissed Schafer? Eow…I don’t remember that one! Sorry about that…what did I say?
June 1st, 20099:45 am
A-Ville Ranger (June 1st, 2009 6:34 am) –
As I said, stuff your hypocritical “apologies” and mealy-mouth rationalizations.
You “celebrated” simply by posting your sick and controversial comment in the first place.
And if gunning someone down in a church lobby does not qualify as “premeditated murder”, what would YOU call it?
Coach ( Moon Pie, Anyone?)
June 1st, 20099:46 am
Two wrongs don’t make a right……
but three rights do make a left.
June 1st, 20099:49 am
Corey Hart is apparently on the market. Would not be too bad a fit in Hotlanta……
June 1st, 20099:52 am
ajc, can you ban Random? I don’t think sifting through his abortion posts all day sounds like a very good time.
June 1st, 20099:54 am
I did not get a chance to watch yesterday nor follow the blog in case this was already discussed… So does Brian get something like the “Golden Spikes” for four walks yesterday? Or is there a name already, like the golden sombrero for four strikeouts? Seems like there should be a name for it maybe related to fear by the pitcher or intimidation by the hitter. If there is no name… you should come up with one… maybe name it for Brian?
June 1st, 20099:55 am
Is Corey Hart still writing those bad 80’s songs like “Sunglasses at Night?” Just don’t see what the Braves could do with another crappy songwriter in Atlanta. We already have plenty
June 1st, 20099:57 am
Actually Random’s posts have been about premeditated murder of a doctor in a church, not abortion.
#1 METS TROLL (And Proud Of It)
The braves split with the horrible D-Backs……That’s cute.
Huh. Still no news on the secret Francoeur trade. I wonder what time the secret will be revealed.
June 1st, 20099:58 am
Um…on the downside, McCann’s 0 for his last five-ish with RISP. On the plus-side, he raised his OBP 15 points to .422 yesterday. Good lookin’ OBP…
And, OK, anybody look at CBS Sports’ projected All-Star Roster? That’s just wrong–Y. Molina and Russell Martin?? Russell Martin?? What has he done this year? This is what he’s done this year! No freaking homers. Oh, but I get it–he’s got nine doubles! And he’s caught 31% of would-be base-stealers. I bet the umpires give him the calls!
Dangit…I do not care for Russell Martin…never have.
June 1st, 200910:03 am
Yeah, I’m not sure what they call four walks in a game…they should have something–it’s prob’ly somewhat rare. I think Chipper did it once this year…
“Golden Spikes” is pretty good–walks, spikes…good connection there. I never have gotten why a four strikeout game is called a “Golden Sombrero”.
If there is no name… you should come up with one… maybe name it for Brian?
Hmm…I’ll get to work on that!
June 1st, 200910:04 am
McFann, it is great to know that you are definitely with McCann good times or bad! Get him in the All Star Game. Keep going!
Do you think he will be upset if his pal Frenchy is traded?
June 1st, 200910:14 am
Thanks. It gets kinda hard sometimes, what with the dropped balls at the plate and the fact that he’s only hit 3 doubles since hitting 3 in one game on April 10th. But he still keeps getting base, has thrown out more runners than he’s given credit for, calls a fantastic game, and gives you his all everyday–kinda hard to stay mad at him for too long.
You mean like Escobar when they dumped Pena? No seriously…um, I don’t know. I’m sure it he’ll say something to the effect of, “Jeff’s a good player. He’ll get through this and have a good year. It’s part of the game. You don’t like to lose guys like Jeff, but it’s something you can’t control. It could be a good break for him.”
Ya know…I don’t think it will put a damper on McCann’s relationship with the team or anything…
VOTE McCANN 2009!!!!
June 1st, 200910:17 am
Lol he can write all the crap songs he wants if he produces a run or two extra a game!!
June 1st, 200910:23 am
On another note, Knobler spoke to a “scout familiar with the Braves” who suggests that Atlanta could consider dealing Javier Vazquez, who makes $11.5MM this year and next, for a big bat to help out the struggling Braves offense.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
