Carl Pavano is about to be traded. Don’t be surprised if he lands in Philly.

Dude is 5-4 with an ERA of 5.29 for the season and 5-1 in May while sporting a 3.60 ERA this month. His 09 contract is all of 1.5 million. The Indians made a wise invest and are about to reap the dividends.

Eric – I really hope we don’t trade him. Like I’ve said before, his potential greatly outweighs his trade value. He has the potential to be a superstar, but trade value will only get a decent prospect or average major leaguer at best.

COACH – why do you feel the need to rehash news from other sites for us. Believe it or not we don’t sit here on the blog all day waiting for you to tell us what is happening elsewhere in the sports world. We all have Explorer/Firefox browsers too and can read all the news we want for ourselves.

Funny that on a day when the Braves kicked a$$ all you can do is try to talk about other teams players. Why don’t you say something nice about Medlen’s performance today?
B/c you’re basically just a negative nellie who only pretends to be a fan when in reality you only wish for the bad things to happen.

It pains me to hear about Smoltz doing so well in his rehabs. This is exactly why my eyes welted up when he went to Boston. The guy is a tough competitor and he’ll prove it over the next few years. Ohio State is lucky that the Seminoles have a classy baseball coach in Mike Martin, otherwise I believe we woulda cracked 50…the bench was emptied in the 5th inning with pitchers playing the field, in some cases for the first time in their college career, and we still scored 5 more runs, and after 7 martin pleaded with the umpires to just call the game…thats just sad when you think about it

Entertaining humor and banter on the blogorama tonight. Just fired up the fading PowerBook here at aeroporte, got an 11:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. EDT) flight.

Went to see a very good movie, Rudo y Cursi, at a theatre in downtown Phoenix after the game. Highly recomnend it to anyone who liked Y Tu Mama Tambien. Same guys are in it, and it’s also set in Mexico. It’s about a couple of poor brothers who get discovered by a sleezy, well-connected scout/agent while playing soccer on a dirt field out in the boonies. He takes them both to the big city, gets them contracts with pro teams, they become big stars on competing teams in that soccer-mad country, and both get caught up in various pursuits (women, cocaine, gambling) that leads to their downfall, etc.

Great story, and there’s a beautiful Latin actress in it.

I know this is blasphemy ’round here, but PLEASE Frank, do NOT trade any young pitching for a bat at this time… Its a young season folks…(kinda makes me want to whistle peter bjorn..) but anywho, its early, and the Bravos have IMO a solid lineup when the top produces…Say what u want about Jeff, or any of the OF, but with our pitching our D will win enough games to keep us in this. If what I have learned about baseball over my few years is that pitching will ALWAYS prevail in the long run…

So to the people freaking out so soon in the season, smoke one or two, sit back , and enjoy the game of baseball….It is WAAAAYYYY to early to stress yourself out!! The Braves WILL be in the thick come Sept..even with a so called weak outfield..(Which I disagree with, but is a whole other peach)

I caught the Star Wars talk and thought ya’ll should know, George Lucas is a sell out. He changed the script after the first Flick in 77 after Harrison Ford stole the spotlight. Luke and Leia were not originally brother and sister in the first film as evidenced by the kiss they shared.

Lucas changed everything because of the popularity of Ford. Originally, Luke was supposed to the love interest of Leia. Lucas rewrote their characters to be brother and sister for the second film in 1980 (Return of the Jedi). Han Solo became Leia’s paramour and the rest as they say is history.

In the past couple of weeks you’ve been talking about signs of Anderson coming around. His stats with the Angels show a similar pattern to his time with the Braves…takes a while to warm up and gets hotter as the season moves on.

Bravos only 4 games back. I still like their chances. The Phils and Mets have taken some hits with significant injuries, which is going to eventually tell on their other players who are holding the fort. Yeah, we got swept by the Giants…but that may not be as bad as it first seems…I think bloggers underestimated them…they have a better record than the Braves and just knocked off the Cards in a three game series.

DOWN ON THE FARM:

Since last report cracks have appeared in GERARDO RODRIGUEZ’ game. The 21 year old first baseman for ROME was sailing along with a .300+ BA and some extremely good looking power numbers. However, in early May, his BA fell to the mid-.250’s. He has begun to recover slowly over the past week or so, and currently has a .266 average with 173 AB for the season. His power numbers have dropped off as well and SO’s have climbed. Still, GERARDO’s 7 2B, 5 3B, 9 HR, .309 OBP, .520 SLG, and .829 OPS are promising. It’s too soon to indicate whether the hole or holes in his hitting are being remedied. Hopefully we’ll see him move up sometime next year to MYRTLE.

Braveheart, somehow I’m feeling a little “sense”-less these days, but, I’ll try to do better, LOL.

Too much readiness to trade near-ready pitching on here. Morton and Hanson are a two-headed AAA monster, yet Morton’s name gets dropped a lot by posters here as trade bait, while Hanson is sacrosanct in the same eyes. All that “depth” that bloggers hail is more a reflecting pool, if one starts moving Reyes/Morton/Medlen in trades. The rest of the better pitching prospects are too far away.

Me, personally? I’d like to see Hanson and Morton stay in AAA all year, and maintain their current results (naturally). Then, start ‘em both at the back of the 2010 rotation, where expectations are lower. With Lowe, Hudson, and Jurrjens fronting. Sign Hudson to a three-year, buy out Jurrjens’ arb years, and wait for some of those lower-level prospects to push somebody out.

Steve from OH, it’s over. I’ve never seen more breaks go one team’s way. I’m pretty suprised at how many of the Wings players are actually admitting that. Melrose, Barnaby, Lebrun, Burnside and every other ESPN analyst are killing the Pens, but I think they are just mad because it is going to be a short series. They wanted a Game 7 and they aren’t going to get it. The NBC guys have been a lot more realistic. The Pens have outshot the Wings and haven’t received many bounces. The Wings will beat them in 5 games. Just too deep and experienced. The question is, will the Red Wings lose again, like, ever?

Or is there a name already, like the golden sombrero for four strikeouts? Seems like there should be a name for it maybe related to fear by the pitcher or intimidation by the hitter. If there is no name… you should come up with one… maybe name it for Brian?

Wes,

Is Corey Hart still writing those bad 80’s songs like “Sunglasses at Night?” Just don’t see what the Braves could do with another crappy songwriter in Atlanta. We already have plenty :)

ATTENTION AJC,

Actually Random’s posts have been about premeditated murder of a doctor in a church, not abortion.

Um…on the downside, McCann’s 0 for his last five-ish with RISP. On the plus-side, he raised his OBP 15 points to .422 yesterday. Good lookin’ OBP…

And, OK, anybody look at CBS Sports’ projected All-Star Roster? That’s just wrong–Y. Molina and Russell Martin?? Russell Martin?? What has he done this year? This is what he’s done this year! No freaking homers. Oh, but I get it–he’s got nine doubles! And he’s caught 31% of would-be base-stealers. I bet the umpires give him the calls!

Dangit…I do not care for Russell Martin…never have.

Yeah, I’m not sure what they call four walks in a game…they should have something–it’s prob’ly somewhat rare. I think Chipper did it once this year…

“Golden Spikes” is pretty good–walks, spikes…good connection there. I never have gotten why a four strikeout game is called a “Golden Sombrero”.

If there is no name… you should come up with one… maybe name it for Brian?

Hmm…I’ll get to work on that! ;)

McFann, it is great to know that you are definitely with McCann good times or bad! Get him in the All Star Game. Keep going!

Do you think he will be upset if his pal Frenchy is traded?

Thanks. It gets kinda hard sometimes, what with the dropped balls at the plate and the fact that he’s only hit 3 doubles since hitting 3 in one game on April 10th. But he still keeps getting base, has thrown out more runners than he’s given credit for, calls a fantastic game, and gives you his all everyday–kinda hard to stay mad at him for too long.

Do you think he will be upset if his pal Frenchy is traded?

You mean like Escobar when they dumped Pena? :P No seriously…um, I don’t know. I’m sure it he’ll say something to the effect of, “Jeff’s a good player. He’ll get through this and have a good year. It’s part of the game. You don’t like to lose guys like Jeff, but it’s something you can’t control. It could be a good break for him.”

Ya know…I don’t think it will put a damper on McCann’s relationship with the team or anything…

VOTE McCANN 2009!!!!

On another note, Knobler spoke to a “scout familiar with the Braves” who suggests that Atlanta could consider dealing Javier Vazquez, who makes $11.5MM this year and next, for a big bat to help out the struggling Braves offense.
