Steve from OH – its cool to disagree with me -I don’t scream back-the few times I have seen both I just like Medlen. Right now he is dealing with a lot of nerves that he will outgrow. Also do you have another person with a name close to yours? Their posts didn’t sound like you.

reading these blogs after the game reminds me of rocky balboa fighting the russian. every body hated his guts until he started winning. same with medlen. the haters just melted into the wood works by the sixth inning. the kid has lots of talent. he pissed his pants the first time out, got better after the second inning of the second. he will only get better and better with time. any body missing josh anderson yet. he should be our fourth outfielder. right now he would be great in right field, a good leadoff hitter with speed. something we havent had in years. every time i read the paper i look up texas to see how the boys are doing that we gave up for tex. sad. now he tells everybody in new york that his present manager is the best he ever had.

Yep, CB. Don’t know what that dude is thinking, or if he’s trying to be close to my name or what.

I agree that Medlen will be a lot better, but I don’t see him as a no. 1. starter like I do Hanson.

cabravesfan – I would never hurt a spider unless forced to by another person (who normally fall into a particular gender). On the other hand, several nights ago I was sitting here at the computer and felt something scampering across my foot, and quickly chased a roach under the screen door with a blast of Raid (he is still outside the door as a warning – kind of like a head on a pike).

I think JJ will be …..if he isn’t already…the ace of the rotation.

On a side note…Bradley is the Cubs Garret or should I say…Garrett is the Braves Bradley. Bradley’s starting to heat up with his bat as well.

Steve from Ohio, thanks! My progress has the entire baseball world buzzing and Steve is only a very small portion. I K’d SIX…SIX hitters and not even at full strength yet! I gotta tell you, I’m almost as thrilled with my rehab outing as I am about the AJC and tons od other papers in on my monumental rehab! When will I pitch in MLB? We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. In the meantime, stay tuned….

Vinings Jim-

After i was forced to fight off a giant spider hanging in front of my front door (and by “fight off” I mean “get my neighbor to come kill it for me”) my dad bought me some of that Spider Shot spray stuff, but the only problem is that it is inside my house. If i ever have to battle giant spiders at my door (and we get some huge ones in the fall) I will have to resort to drastic measures once again…but typically if they stay outside, I leave them alone

Medlen’s performance was a good one today. Honestly, one good start for every three is about normal for a young rookie pitcher. The strike-em-out throw-em-out DP in the first was the real pivotal play of the game. Changed Medlen’s entire demeanor after that.

Yes, all the signs point to a trade being in the works… All those smoke signal coming out from the Atlanta paper about the possibility of Francoeur leaving have some merit. Having Kershin pinch hit was very telling.

yeah I think they would like to see him(TH) have more command in keeping his pitches low.As long as they don’t feel it is an absolute necessity to bring him up, they are likely hoping for some more refinement and continued confidence building.. I agree with you that TommyH projects as a better pitcher than Medlen, likely Morton does too partly cause little guys always are looked upon with some skepticism. That doesn’t mean that he can’t beat the odds and be a good MLB pitcher. Too early to know yet obviously.

They also reduce the numbers of truly dangerous insects, like mosquitoes.

Roman Gal – no, but Robert Pattinson has won two awards (and I can’t tell you how disturbing it is that I know that). I will say, in defense of watching (maybe being in the same room with would be more appropriate) it, they did show the preview of Transformers 2 – I was way ahead of the curve on Megan Fox – I used to watch (and I’m not totally proud of this) Faith and Hope just to see Megan Fox for a few minutes.

A little stats action:

Schafer & McCann are tied with 34 hits each.

Norton & Lowe are tied with 4 hits each.

Yunel is leading the team in hits with 49.

4 Players tied with 5 HR’s each: Yunel, KJ, Gimper, McCann. (Side note: Salty also has 5 HR’s.. I figured a few of you would really appreciate that tidbit!)

RBI Leaders: Yunel 26, Kotchman 24.

Man, common sense is taking a beating this evening. I guess I kinda started it with him. He had it coming. Regarding the game today, regardless of whether Medlen continues to start, moves to the bullpen, or is traded, this was an important outing for him to build confidence. If he is traded, he increased his trade value greatly by proving he can be dominate in a major league game. I kinda hope he doesn’t get traded. I like the little guy.

And I see Braveheart and Roman Gal were having fun ripping us apart behind our backs…

And hey, is it just me, or do our announcers seem to be putting special emphases on players’ doubles lately? I mean it’s like they’re punching the word every time they say it: “So-and-so hit a double his last time up”, “So-and-so has 3 doubles today…”

Kelly Johnson has 22 more total bases and a lot higher slugging and OPS+. than Jordan and is batting 30 ponts higher. 22 may not sound like a great amount but multiply that out x3 and you get a better picture. We don’t know what Schafer is going to do the rest of the year, but we know without a doubt that KJ (potentially)is one of the best hitting 2nd basemen in the game. When he is on a roll like now he is a sight to behold. Here’s hoping he doesn’t have another extended slump this year.

I recently got one from an ACE hardware store — it looked pretty much the same (yellow and black), but had three metal screens. Only the middle one was “hot” when you pushed the button. I guess the other two are safety screens.

The ones I got in NZ have only the “hot” screen, and it’s not a mesh. More like a harp.

Lets see. Casey Kotchman is out for at least four to five games. Omar Infante won’t be back until after the All-Star break. Chipper, in spite of his big day today is walking wounded. Diory Hernandez is a slick rookie glove at SS and not much else.

Leaving KJ, Escobar and Prado with the main bulk of the work load at 2B, SS and 1B. Or Escobar could slide over to 3B if Chipper can’t go leaving Hernandez to play SS. If Cox put Norton at 1B, he should be committed to a psych ward, immediately.

At any rate rate, the bench is depleted. Something has to be done, right now.

Tomorrow is an off day, don’t be surprised if the Braves go shopping for another veteran infielder. Jamey Carroll gets the nod from me. Cheap (about 1.7 million), 35 year old utility man can play 3B, SS, 2B and both corner outfield spots. The Indians are about to have a fire sale anyway, all Frank Wren need do is pick up the phone and start dialing.

MOSTLY FOR CARROLL ROGERS:

I guess your significant other has kept you apprised of the on-going machinations of all things relating to professional baseball in the capitol of the OLD DOMINION. In less than 25 minutes the original dead-line for purchase of the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS’ AA franchise will be defunct. Once the word leaked out that city obligation bonds would not be forthcoming to back the purchase of the franchise and the resultant $320 million development plan in SHOCKOE BOTTOM, monied supporters of the venture bailed and the deal fell through. The EASTERN LEAGUE steadfastly insists however, that a AA team will play in the “DIAMOND” in 2010. If the league doesn’t place a franchise here by August 1, then independent leagues may get a foot in the door, and the EASTERN would lose out in the future purchase of the territory by a ML owner buying the territorial rights for a AAA franchise to be put in place( read LERNER, as in WASHINGTON NATIONALS ). This has been my supposition all along, and I suspect the LERNER family has been behind a development proposal at the BOULEVARD location where the existing facility recently vacated by the BRAVES remains empty except for the VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY baseball team’s home games.

So the saga of RICHMOND professional baseball grinds on, slowly, but finely with no resolution in sight. Meanwhile, the BRAVES are happily liberated from the local malaise which permeates all sports professional in this town other than NASCAR.

Yeah Frank, but he can also make it to where he goes to which team he wants. As the trade deadline gets closer more teams will try for him.

YO DOB — i did post that I was mistaken on the article being from you, if I had seen it was the AP I wouldn’t have been so shocked by the mistake. They always get stuff wrong like that.

It’s good to see the COACH at least referencing his cut-and-paste remarks now. Let’s see, I pretty much think he has mentioned just about every possible player that has been talked about. Does that mean he is going to claim to be “right” again when/if we make a trade??

If we’re lucky the supposed train that is coming will take COACH with it when it leaves.

JD I cant believe anyone would trade for him, but it sure appears like he is on his way somewhere else.
