ESPN doesn’t give a damn about the Braves. Why should they? The Braves aren’t on nationally anymore. They’re not very good.

ESPN doesn’t hate the Braves. The Braves are not interesting to most people.

Vinings Jim-

I have learned that when guys are sick they respond one of two ways:
1. Claim they are ‘fine’ even if they are coughing up blood -OR-
2. Claim they are ‘dying’ and insist that they are incapable of functioning at all
you seem to fall into the first category…take care of yourself!

OK common sense == now you need to get some “learnin” !!

In the minors every player has multiple positions b/c nobody wants to be blocked from the majors by having his position occupied by a star player. Therefore most players will play different positions that fit their skill set.

As a catcher I also played 3b and 1b, but not b/c of legs or any of that crap. It’s b/c as a catcher you have developed the ability to scoop balls quickly. Constantly picking balls out of the dirt from the pitcher makes picking a ball at third or scooping a ball at first seem much easier. But you still have to practice that position to be able to “play” it correctly.

Putting your worst player on first is a softball team move, not a MLB one. First base is the linchpin position in your infield, the majority of outs in a game happen there. Fielding, Positioning, and learning how to make a proper cut-off play are essential to a team winning. Also being able to talk smack for a full nine innings with any runner that gets on base is a major plus. Nothing distracts a runner more than a verbal smackdown while he’s trying to pay attention.

The reason why Casey doesn’t compare to the best offensively is b/c there are currently some of the best hitters in the game at his position, not b/c he is inadequate.

As far a Tomahawkin’s Little League coaching experience, I would say that would make him way more of an expert than you, who is probably still IN Little League.

I wonder is the A’s wouldn’t mind having Frenchy since he’s not expensive, young, once a future superstar, and can maybe see that a change of scenery could turn him back around? Is it ok to gush about Kris Medlen? We may have seen a career started today. I’m not sure how good he can be, but he has enough talent to be at least a 3 starter in this league. So the Braves have some tough decisions to make over the next few weeks. This is what I would hope they would do- release Norton, callup B. Jones- platoon Jones and Frenchy-continue to seek a young under contract outfielder via trade using Vazquez or KK and Frenchy as trade bait. There are too many young pitching who need a chance. This team still has a chance to make playoffs if these moves can be made.

Medlen said Lowe talked to him for about an hour on Thursday, the day Lowe pitched against the D’backs. Lowe explained to him about slowing down, how a young guy who’s energetic and a fast worker to begin with, is going to be twice as fast in his first games. So he told him to literally try to work as slow as he could, among other stuff he talked to him about…

Medlen said after he walked the leadoff guy in first inning today, Chipper “got in my face” and told him to throw strikes, to get ahead of hitters, because if he didn’t they were going to hit him hard. Medlen said he needed to hear that. “Maybe Chipper should get in my face more often,” he joked.

Just curious if anyone knows why Kawakami was pinch hitting.

Did it have something to do with his contract to give him at bats and exposure or something? This is really odd.

Norton did pinch hit and Ross didn’t because he is the backup catcher and you don’t blow through them for fear of (McCann) injury and having no one to be catcher then.
