I knew Chino was giving him crap, but I didn’t see him say it. Kudos to Chino. I now heartily endorse him to succeed Bobby. He has a sense of humor. That’s good enough for me. I don’t care about baseball knowledge.
common sense: Gary carter played first late in his career and so did Joe Torre.
Gary Carter played a total of 74 games at 1B throughout his career, but he also played outfield and 3B. He never made a move to playing just 1B. He was a catcher primarily til the end of his career. As for Torre, he ceased being a catcher in 1970 and made the move to 3B, not 1B. He was primarily a 3rd baseman for the next 5 years. His final year before he became player/mgr of the Mets, he was both a 3B and 1b. I’ll ask you once again Mr. Common Sense, where is the list of MOST catchers that are moved to 1B to finish out their careers? Give me that, or admit that you were mistaken.
I guess that guy on the bench who looks exactly like him is just a deak to throw us off.
Don’t be dumb. Teams trade players all the time and still have them around until official. Betemit was traded in 2006 minutes after he got done playing third base in a game.
Chop, on the other hand, what does it say about the communication between manager and bench coach (who, of all people, should be in tune with the manager’s decisions) that said bench coach was surprised by a PH move?
Funny, though, agreed. Points to Chino for that, LOL.
Good showing by Medlen today AND by Moylan. Big jump in his fastball today— 92mph vs previous outings of 88-89. Could be good things to come from Moylan.
Good game today. 3 doubles by kelly, and homers by Garret and Chipper. Looks like Peter’s velocity is finally back, he was hitting 93mph on the gun today.
Kris Medlen was great, I think that’s his last start, Tommy Glavine will return next time out.
Want my honest assessment? It’s BS. That’s one reason why the Braves aren’t as good as they used to be. The organizational talent, from ownership on down, just isn’t the same.
capt caveman. hahaha
jerald you are an idiott. go to wickipedia on catchers and you will find the list of all the catchers that moved positions to save their legs. Its a coaching philosophy. something you know nothing about.
its been done since the beginning and believe me i know.
I was a ground crew guy for the mariners back in the 1920s.
haha
common sense:NO. someone stated earlier that there were no other catchers that moved late in their career. I have now named 3.
And all 3 you named either moved to 3B (Torre), Piazza (stayed at catcher until he went to AL), and Carter (played several positions, least of which was 1B). You still made the claim that MOST catchers move to 1B late in their careers. Where are MOST of these catchers?
I think a couple years back they moved the fences in some. (Jay21)
that’s what I was asking a while ago. I thought I had read about some park changes, and the numbers the last couple of years have been much higher for some of the hitters. It used to be one of the 2 or 3 toughest parks in baseball. It no longer seems to be quite that bad.
So if I can sum up, KJ can’t bat leadoff, Chipper is too old and injured, Anderson can’t hit, Kotchman can’t field, Bobby is too stuborn to shake up the batting order, Cox won’t bench Frenchy, Medlin isn’t ready for the Bigs… did I miss anything??
they moved and played first. I didnt say they didnt play other positions either. but the bottom line was they moved to save their legs and first is easier to move to seeing as how it is the easiest position to fill. Anybody can play first.
once again. note andrew jones is playing first base and has never done it in his life.
Chop Chop, that or the organization doesn’t have Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz/Justice/Chipper(healthy all year) and Turner’s money could be another reason why.
common sense: I was a ground crew guy for the mariners back in the 1920s
Is this all a joke? Must be because the Mariners didn’t come into existance until 1977. And I guess I know nothing of coaching philosophy since I used to manage Little League when my boys were growing up. I was pretty good too, but that’s neither here nor there. You probably coached back in the 1700s, right? What a goober you are.

Don’t get started on me Eric. I made you look like sheot the other night to point that you haven’t been seen for the last couple of days. You remember don’t you? You were talking all that crap about how good KK is and then he proceeds to get his ass kicked. Then you tried to tell me that our bullpen was good and then your boy EOF got his ass handed to him in just a 1/3 of an inning. Then, you wanted to compare Smoltz as a closer to Gonzo. That didn’t even warrant response. So, let well enough alone Eric. You started crap that you shouldn’t have.
Jerald you didnt make me look like sh!t. Unlike you I have a life and its the weekend and I dont sit around on the blog. If this is all you have to do then I feel sorry for you.
common sense: I coached Little League. Any youth coach can tell you that 1st base is a primary position for one of your better players. That’s because in youth ball, most young kids aren’t that proficient at catching the ball well.
The problem is that Bobby is like a Doctor who waits until the patient is about to die before prescribing the right medicine!!!!, today’s line-up, I mean seating Francouer or Shafer (61 SO in 161 at bat, Holly Caw!!!!!!!!!) , both can’t play together because with the pitcher all ads three free outs to the oposite team. God have Mercy of the Braves!!!
Nope, I actually work about 47 hours a week on a 4-day schedule, so I am not on here most of the time. And as I recall, you attacked me. I never fired the first volley at you.
How come for the past few days the Hardee’s commercial has not been the one with the frighteningly ugly young lady promising to call the handsome young gentleman?

Interesting thought there. I wonder if that’s why they sat Frenchie.
Something in the works maybe?

common sense: I coached Little League. Any youth coach can tell you that 1st base is a primary position for one of your better players. That’s because in youth ball, most young kids aren’t that proficient at catching the ball well.

Rodney Derrick – Yup, pretty typical from them. I’m not at all surprised. They really hate Braves baseball…..always have.

Chuck James was Solid until the 6th!!!

Who cares about Francoeur not PH’ing? Kawakami did what Jeff would have done regardless, only in style.

If Bobby would have put Frenchy in to PH –
it would have only encouraged Frenchy.

Correction. Medlen gets a later mention on ESPN where they show three winning starters today. They cite his first pitch strikes.
