Let me say again. I like Kotchman.
Lets find an agreeable point…
I guess you guys think frenchy is great too.
May 31st, 20096:21 pm
“capt caveman… you are asking someone their age??? Have you looked at your name lately?”
What’s wrong with it?
So is frenchy being traded or what. The insider guy earlier said it was happening. But nobody questioned him.
May 31st, 20096:22 pm
Game @ gwinnett is ongoing. Forgotto add”so far” to the stat line.
Oh and he has a PC of 63. Not bad.
I’m grateful Rally Turtle went to that party with McFann. Otherwise, we surely would’ve lost this game.
May 31st, 20096:23 pm
Boy, did I make a mistake benching Medlen oday on my fantasy team. Now I need McCann or Yunel to score atleast one more time otherwise my the Atlanta Braves of fantasy will fall behind even more
I wonder how mad Rally was that he wasn’t in the lineup today? I bet he’s giving McFann hell.
Rob (from SC)
May 31st, 20096:24 pm
I wonder if Medlen’s great start today gives him a lock for a bullpen spot once Glavine returns.
May 31st, 20096:25 pm
Lets put Mccann at first. That way we can have his bat in there daily.
We cant continue to have him sit when he is the only power bat on the team.
THat did not take Bennett long, but he has pitched a lot on this trip. Why not let your long man pitch.
Bennett has given up more hits in 1/3 inning than Medlen gave up in 6 innings.
Who was it that suggested Bennett could be the prospect for the Tejada trade? I don’t think it’s going to happen.
Oh let me count the ways I hate Cox’s man crush on Bennett
May 31st, 20096:26 pm
Common Sense, shhhhhhhhh. You are making a fool of yourself.
Frank from KS
The most HR’s Bream hit was 16 in 1986 in Pittsburgh. He hit 15 in 1990 in Pittsburgh and then…11 in 1991 and 10 in 1992 as a Brave.
Can we please release Jeff Bennett already? The kid sucks. LET HIM GO!!!!
May 31st, 20096:27 pm
I honestly do not understand how we can continue to compete when we have chipper hurt and already out and escobar out and then we sit Mccann because he needs a day off. When guys are hurt then other guys have to step it up. We have got to find some power or find a way to keep Mccann in the lineup.
May 31st, 20096:28 pm
do you think that when glavine comes back that medlen could take bennett spots in the pen?
May 31st, 20096:29 pm
“I agree Kotchman is just average. Good D. Average pop. But bottom of the league in comparison to other first basemen.”
So what? We have a catcher who is at the TOP of the league in Brian McCann, not many teams get the offense out of their catcher that we do. So isn’t it a wash?
Anybody who says Kotchman is one of the problems on this team is stupid.
That’s right. I said it. Respond if you must.
Is Camp o Pillow still on the team. Good time to rest Base on Balls Bennet and get Campo some work.. Much like other suggested with Norton, but then again there’s Bobby. winning in spite of Bobby
May 31st, 20096:30 pm
Bobby Cox to Roger McDowell: “Get Bennett up in the bullpen”
McDowell to Eddie Perez: “Bobby wants you to get Acosta up in the bullpen”
i love this job.
Problem would be that I think Kotchman is one of the best defensive players on the team, so you would be taking some defense away from our already weak defensive team. Then on the upside, Ross might have more power than Kotchman, so by doing that, we might be gaining power, and finally, I have not checked on this one, but I think CK is a better OBP and BA guy than Ross, so you would be sacrificing that also….. But is a good point though, because Ross might be good enough to play every day and then we could bring sammons to back him up and use CK as trade bait, so CK and JF as part of a package might bring us a very very good bat back.
Don’t Get mad because you know that I’m right…I will continue to call this inconsistant offense until it shows some consistancy or a move is made, and If You ain’t down with that Then I’ve got 2 words for ya….!
And BTW I’am enjoying this
I just want to see One of Our relievers throw at one of the D-Backs hitters in the 9th…
Let the league know that we are not gonna put up with our batters being him and us taking it!
Andres Thomas … once NOT traded for young Pirates’ outfielder Barry Bonds.
What did that Bonds kid ever wind up doing?
May 31st, 20096:31 pm
Common Sense –
Well that’s nice. You make a stupid comment, get called out on it, and then choose to deny ever making the dumb comment. Quotes are a funny thing, huh? Sometimes it’s better to be quiet and thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
May 31st, 20096:32 pm
Nobody said Kotchman was the problem. That is some of these people just popping in and not knowing how the conversation started.
I said at the beginning that he was not a top of the line firstbaseman.
But he is performing and that is much more than can be said for 2 outfielders that I know of.
FSU 29, Ohio State 0… 5th inning
N8, I fully acknowledge that you are a giant and a genius … but … we need MORE POWER out of first base.
May 31st, 20096:33 pm
When the Braves won five of their last six on the homestand and swept Toronto, did anyone imagine they’d be in the position they’re in today? That is, having lost five of six on this trip to San Francisco and Arizona? Yep that’s what 500 teams do.
Chipper not hitting against the lefty Schlereth (I like his dad Mark Schlereth’s analysis on ESPN, by the way. And the kid looks just like his dad, who’s been at these games. Son made his debut couple days ago against the Braves.)
Someday Soon – LOL, funny stuff
May 31st, 20096:34 pm
soooo…i take it Diory can play 3rd base?
JJ what are you talking about?
JJ go back to your closet.
May 31st, 20096:35 pm
I don’t get it. Why pinch-hitting for Chipper now??!
yeah common sense — we know you and “split decision” are the same person. It’s obvious by the way you type your name, MORON.
You really are a little kid. LOLOL
common sense: Somehow I just knew that Mike Piazza’s name would come up on the issue of catchers moving to first base. Out of a 14-year career, Piazza played 1 game at 1b for the Dodgers, 1 game in 2003, and 68 games in 2004. Even in 2004 you cannot say that he moved to 1B because he also played catcher in 50 games that year. Now, where’s the list that has MOST catchers moving to 1B?
May 31st, 20096:36 pm
I think the Bonds cat changed his name to James and number to 007 and went to work for some hi-tech spy fimr—probably owned by Dick Cheney
May 31st, 20096:37 pm
Got me??? what the heck are you talking about
Diory played some 3B in spring training.
Roman Gal, poor McFann can’t block her plate, so Rally Turtle is treating McFann’s food like an all he can eat buffet
Chipper showed some vintage old ballplayer Joe D. or Mickey Mantle on that home run limp-trot.
May 31st, 20096:39 pm
Career-high four walks for McCann
Agreed N8. We have enough players on this team that can double and single the heck out of the ball. Play small ball consistently and we are play-offs bound.
Gimper got yanked because he doesn’t want to hit right handed. (Because of the aforementioned gimpy toe.)
May 31st, 20096:40 pm
Ok, my bad, must be because of the left-handed pitcher on the mound.
Did anyone see Kelly in the dugout after Chipper’s homerun? It looked like he was making fun of Chipper’s homerun trot.
Why? If the Braves have HR’s coming from other spots in the lineup or more importantly…the 4th spot…..they can handle having Kotchman at 1st.
Bobby C. Listened to my earlier ranting of taking Chipper out in a Blow-out game
Nice! We will need his bat for that cubs serious
This isn’t too surprising but at McFann’s party, Frenchy McTurtle keeps trying to eat McFann’s sliders, but McFann’s sliders keep eating up Frenchy McTurtle.
May 31st, 20096:41 pm
Prado will take that ~_~
Mark Reynolds got serious whiffage, Chipper got serious limpage, and the blog got serious idiotage.
What a country.
May 31st, 20096:42 pm
OK folks – step away from the troll on the blog. You’re feeding it.
May 31st, 20096:43 pm
Well, McFann could try to throw Rally out, but she’s really not very good at that.
Paul Lentz – agree with you on Glavine. Put him in there for the diehards, otherwise, they’ll say I’m too negative.
May 31st, 20096:44 pm
“N8, I fully acknowledge that you are a giant and a genius … but … we need MORE POWER out of first base.”
Then maybe we should trade McCann for a power hitting first baseman? That way all the dumbasses bitching about no power at 1B would be happy, right?
For crying out loud. You people think I’m hard to please. Get over yourselves.
We need two new outfielders. Period. End of discussion. Kotchman is better than Bream was, and we went to two WS with him at 1B. Pittsburgh made the playoffs with him at 1B.
Why? Because we/they had good pitching. And MONSTER production in the OF. By the way, those two teams had Tony Pena (and Spanky), along with Greg Olson as catchers. NONE OF WHICH are as good as McCann is at the plate.
Yup. Kotchman is the problem alright. Just keep telling yourself that.
Eric from MO
N8,”Anybody who says Kotchman is one of the problems on this team is stupid.”
Agreed, Kotchman does all the small things. Is he an all-star 1st baseman? The answer is no, but he does the small things that helps a team win.
May 31st, 20096:45 pm
Kelly is the one who said on one of those shows that Chipper does this lean when he rounds the bases after hitting a HR and they all make fun of it.
Frenchy McTurtle keeps trying to eat McFann’s sliders
Rally can’t steal. Haha…
May 31st, 20096:46 pm
Like That They Play old Bone Thugs N Harmony “Notorious Thugs” for Augie Ojeda…The Beat in that song is sick!
May 31st, 20096:47 pm
Roman Gal, wouldn’t matter anyway, McFann forgot her glasses, so she’s too blind to find the door to throw Rally Turtle out of.
Poppa Schlereth lost me when he made like Nancy Grace on the *alleged* video the Patriots of the Rams walkthrough before the Super Bowl and of the other video stuff they had. He’s probably looking for the guy on the grassy knoll, too. Anybody realize how short a football halftime is? There’s like five minutes, really, to do any strategy stuff. There’s five minutes of who’s injured and needs help, five minutes of bee-otching and then five minutes before you take the field again.
Unless you’re Erk Russell and you sneak out at halftime to watch the South Carolina State band perform.
Frank, we are so devoid of having home run power from ANY position we are in desperate need for the long ball from the two traditional spots — 1st base and left. But I think that it is better to wait for the big swings to grow from the farm than to trade good arms for expensive short-term fixes.
May 31st, 20096:48 pm
Gary carter played first late in his career and so did Joe Torre.
RG, LOL, yeah, you’re right, Rally can’t steal.
May 31st, 20096:49 pm
Yeah … notice how he approaches second base in almost a side-saddle manner.
Where Did all the Medlen Haters Go…?
We are gonna have a logjam of starters when Glavine comes back…I actually rather would Go With Hansen and Medlen at the Back end of our Rotation and use Glavine in the Pen as short relief…
Or Maybe use Medlen or Hansen in Short Relief when Glavine comes back…
Now they are playing Ozzy’s “Ironman” for Mark Reynolds…The Music they play at Chase Field Kicks A..s!!!
May 31st, 20096:50 pm
The question is why haven’t we seen any left-handed catcher’s mitts. And I don’t think there’s a good answer to the question. (PWH)
there are no left-handed catcher’s mitts cause there are basically no lefthanded catchers. Simple as that. There have been about a total of 30 LHers who have ever caught in a major league in 130+ years and only one back in the 1870 or so did it for any length of time. A few have caught several hundred games but most all of them have just filled in on a few emergency situations. Since you are such a baseball scholar and expert I’m kinda amazed that you would even bring up such a comment. .
There is a reason for that. It lessens the ability to throw out runners at second(which already is usually less than 40%) and it makes it almost impossible to throw out runners at third. Coaches know this fact even though you do not, so they do not use LHers as catchers in low level leagues. They won’t ever start either. Ergo no need for lefthanded catchers mitts.
Braveheart, you’re right. She probably wouldn’t make a very good throw anyways and he’d end up coming home.
May 31st, 20096:51 pm
Speaking of former Braves catchers…..I wonder whatever has happened to Damon Berryhill and Charlie O’Brien.
McCann boots one at the plate again…
The Union is Dissolved!
McCann dropped the ball again!
Block the plate just once, please.
May 31st, 20096:52 pm
That’s nice. Keep making stupid comments. It’s quite entertaining.
common sense: I said at the beginning that he was not a top of the line firstbaseman
You lying sack of sheot! You started the discussion by saying that Kotchman was not a gold glove calibre first baseman. Big difference
May 31st, 2009
Gary carter played first late in his career
McCann isnt late in his career.
May 31st, 20096:53 pm
Here we go with the bullpen again….
Lotta bad hair on this DBacks team.
What he actually said is that Casey is “Marginal at best”.
Stephen Drew looks terrible up there.
May 31st, 20096:54 pm
NO. someone stated earlier that there were no other catchers that moved late in their career. I have now named 3.
I still say that Kotchman is average. You have your opinion. Opinions are like armpits. we all got them and some stink.
Last lefty catcher in the bigs was the ChiSox Mike Squires, IIRC.
So much anger in an 8th inning 9-3 game.
Thank god your not the Braves manager Tomahawkin’.
Glavine..in the pen? I don’t think so.

You guys wont let it go??? I dont get it. I tried to change the subject to frenchy whom we can all agree sucks and you still want to defend kotchman. who is drinking the coolaide here.
May 31st, 20096:56 pm
Common your right Kotchman is average. Almost all of us would agree with you, but that isnt what you originally said.
The Coalition for firing Jeff Bennett
Hanson through five innings: 0 runs, 2 hits, 7ks.

As Clemons famously said. I have been mis heard.
So did George Brett….albeit after he was a 3rd baseman for the majority of his career.

K.K. doing some PHing
Perfect pinch hitting move!
Kawakami and not Francoeur?
Okay, Francoeur has been traded.
Um..what? LOL KK instead of JF? Way to go, Bobby.
Kawakami pinch hitting?
Mark this down – by August Garret Anderson will be batting 290 – 300 with a few more HR’s added in. the guy is a proffesional hitter and will be glad he’s playing for the Braves.
If Frenchy and Schafer were hitting like Kotchman – this would be a completely different and a lot better team! Those 2 are a BIG hole in our line-up right now.
