Yeah, that’s for sure.

Back from the dark shadows of “No Braves Baseball Land!”

Wow, if true, the Heyward news would seem to be a set back. Has he been playing poorly lately?

I like DeRo, but he is not the fix for our offense. Only if he is one of a couple of deals would he really work out, though he would be a better replacement for Chipper than Prado when Hoss goes down, as he tends to do on occasion.

Kentavo – I don’t see how that can be true. Danville is for Rookies, Rome is where he would go if he was demoted, which I can’t see since he was tearing it up with MB.

The deeper this season goes, the less I like our chances.

The way I see it, the Phils and Mets are doing a hell of a job of keeping their heads above water through crappy pitching (the Phils) and injuries (the Mets). Did anyone here think that the Mets would have four starting pitchers with ERAs 4.21 and under at this point of the season? Probably not. They only have 33 HRs. Anyone expect that? That team is really showing some guts. They’ll probably choke again at the end, but they’re not choking right now.

The Phils’ pitching has been absolute garbage, but one figures that Blanton and Hamels will get their numbers down. J.A. Happ is a good addition to the rotation. They’ll go out and add another arm, I’m sure. Rollins has been awful, but he looks like he’s starting to come around. Ibanez has cooled off with the long balls, but his insane first couple of months helped keep the Phillies from falling apart.

You…you v-v-voted for…Fillies??

Oh…oh man…this one hurts…

I’m not sure how many times I’ve voted for Escobar and Chipper…heh heh, the only one I’ve kept on ballot consistently is McCann. I’ve voted for some Cincy players off and on…voted for Braun a few times (not sure why, other than the fact that I can’t bring myself to vote for a Filly…I’m so bad…I need to get over it.)

Yeah I know, it disgusted me too. I absolutely cannot bring myself to vote for any Mets…but that’s OK because I don’t think they have a “best at that position in the NL” player on their team anyway. :D As much as I dislike the Phillies, Ibanez is having an all star season and Utley with his slicked back hair is hands down the best 2B in the NL. And I voted for Gonzalez just because I like him and I knew the whole world would vote for Albert. All 25 of my votes are always the same. It’s easier just to keep hitting submit than to change the votes each time. For some reason I get the feeling McCann is the only person you voted for. Don’t worry grasshopper, he’ll get in.

Trying to get back to a normal schedule these days….work, keeping track of the teen, braves baseball, etc.

The last 2 weeks were pretty hectic/tough. Wife’s sis passed away and we had her services on Saturday. Last of the relatives left today. All is much better now. Her last couple of weeks were hard on all around here, as much physically as emotionally.

Not much Braves time in the mix…..

All-Star Voting

If there is a Brave that is deserving, or close to deserving, I vote for them, and then for all others who are worthy, leaning heavily towards the underdogs, and the small market players.

I wouldn’t vote for a Met or Phillie unless there was just nobody else close to deserving.

BTW, haven’t voted yet, so I am open to suggestions (beyond our guys).

I haven’t voted for any Mets, either. And no Diamondbacks! Upton might be having a good year, but do not vote D-Back.

Ibanez is having a good year, sure, but I just can’t click on a Filly name…elgth! Just couldn’t do it. I don’t remember who I vote for at 2B…I think it’s Brandon Phillips…?

I usually just change my vote for a certain position (if need-be) when I change my e-mail address. But I’ve gone back-and-fourth at 1B a lot (but yeah, no votes for Pujols…everybody votes for Pujols!).

For some reason I get the feeling McCann is the only person you voted for.

Aw, now…I vote for a couple other guys…sometimes… ;)

Don’t worry grasshopper, he’ll get in.

He better…or someone’s going to pay…

David O’Brien: Astonishing Stat of the Day: Jeff Francoeur hit a home run on May 1, and Garret Anderson hit one on May 31. Can you guess how many homers were hit by Braves outfielders between those dates?

Zero.

The Braves had two outfield homers in the entire month, one apiece on the first and last days of the month.

…Guess it was my immagination, but I thought I saw Chipper hit one an inning or so before Garret yesterday, which would make it 3 in a month.

Yeah, we need a lot of things, don’t we. And we don’t get everything we want, or need. And a new blog, I can assure you, is not something you’ll be getting here today.

cphizzle, since you’re concerned about my whereabouts. I took a redeye from Phoenix and got in at 6 a.m. today. Slept a little, watched Breaking Bad, did an expense report, rode motorcycle to gym.

Team’s off, and we were just on the road for seven days. Do you think my bosses want me to work every day? That’d be a whole lot of comp time accrued, and with the way that baseball offseasons go now, not much time to use it. After an 85-90 hour work week, my man, this would seem a logical day to take off, barring any news that needs to be covered.

Carroll’s not back from vacation yet, so try to make do without a new blog.

Lew: I read earlier that you pretty much said you think the Braves will be fine offensively without dealing for anything. Seriously? C’mon, man, I know you’re the eternal optimist when it comes to the Braves but this lineup isn’t gonna be swinging come October as currently constructed.

On another note, I noticed that Buster Olney said that he figures Matt Holiday will get about $10-11+ million per year in his next contract. IF the Braves could sign an extension for 3 years/$33 million for Holliday, would you do it? (pending a successful deal, of course)

And for the Holliday detractors, his road splits the past couple of years while a Rockies player were pretty dang good. And he’s been raking the past month after his slow start in Oakland.

Just not sure how much Beane would want in a deal. But with him coming at that salary, it would make sense to deal Vasquez and his salary to fit it in. Probably work best as a 3-team deal.

I don’t think anyone is really arguing that he is the answer. Our interest is for him to be a super-sub and to fill in for Chipper.

Like Jeff R said before though, I am interested in the prospect of us signing DeRosa to make room for a trade involving Kelly. It makes a lot of sense. Even better is that Kelly is heating up right now and that will make his stock rise.

After all, Infante isn’t done forever and he should be able to come back and serve the same pre-injury role(s). I can’t imagine that we would throw away prospects for a 33 year old super-sub player that we would only need for about 3 months.

I gotta call FOUL on this one.

You artfully framed his stats there, but here’s the thing… Derosa had never been given more than 309 at-bats in a season until 2006, when he hit 13 HR’s.

He hit 10 HR’s in 2007, and 21 in 2008. This year, he is on pace to hit 24 HR’s, 90 RBI, and about 30 doubles. Not saying those will be his year-end numbers… but the fact that he’s on pace for that shows you what he’s done so far.

He’s not a big power bat. But he’s got double-digit HR power, and he’ll hit .285-.295 with 30-40 doubles. And his OBP has been in the .370’s each of the past 2 seasons.

To say that Mark DeRosa can be nothing more than a utility player is to ignore what he’s done over the past 3 seasons, and what he’s done so far this year. He’s no all-star, but he can be -and has been- a solid everyday player.

Thanks, DOB.

So you’re not of the opinion that he’d be a KJ replacement?

Lesson # 211:

When you want to go to the movies with your family, buy out all the tickets for the theater.

That way you and your family won’t have to sit near any “common” people.
