Jerald – I said I do not 100% disagree but who has deteriorated under TP that otherwise would not have gone down apart from maybe KJ ?? I have had problems with our “clutch” hitting or hitting against quality pitching going back to the late 1990s……. but if we dump TP and bring in anyone, does KJ get more consistent, does Francouer become a smart player and power bat, does Yunel stop hitting more GB than any other MLB player ?

If so, then I am all for it… I just suspect we have some very mediocre guys as measured over the course of a season..

I can see what you mean about not caring about actors/musicians’ politics, DOB, but what about those like Mel Gibson, whose political beliefs seem intermixed with racism and sexism and other negative traits? When I learn that an artist is a bad person, I just have a hard time supporting them – i.e., paying to see their movies, buying their albums…

Are the brewers considering moving Corey Hart for starting pitching? Nick Cafardo (Boston Globe) says that teams have discussed him with starting pitching as a possible return. Right fielder, hits RH, who has hit 20 HRs or more the last 2 years. Avg isnt great but under team control for another year. Wonder if he would be a possible option. He’s paid $3.25 mil this year. Frenchie+starting pitching perhaps.

DOB, I seldom agree on the music discussion with you, but you’re spot on there. I enjoy music at any level in which the artist is passionate, regardless of the subject. I don’t have to agree with anything to enjoy the art. It brings up another point about Wal-Mart editing the content of a CD not to include curse words, yet across the aisle they have R rated movies like The Big Lebowski for sale. It doesn’t make sense. The artists are what they are, and I can appreciate it for what it is, art. It’s also similar to a comedian when they say stuff that’s offensive to race or religion, you’ve got to take it as comedy, not a personal belief or opinion of the comedian. They make people laugh for a living, and stereotypes are funny. Anyways….

Tomahawkin, no sh**! Derosa is a fine utility guy, but like you say, if Wren is going for a few month rental, might as well go all out with Holliday. I sure as heck wouldn’t trade good pitchers for a part time player…I know I know, he hit 21 HR’s last year, but Holliday is just better.

I think the braves main interest in Derosa is that he can fill in for Chipper or play the outfield…He can play all positions except catcher and CF

Interesting to see Diaz in RF. Wonder why it has taken so long to consistently try Diaz out there? Especially with Frenchy struggling for such a long stretch this season.

And Derosa is not the answer for the Braves. He really is not a power hitter, and his bat isn’t big enough to make a huge difference in this lineup. If Derosa was one of two pieces the Braves acquire than I’m all for it.

Just to clarify, “Oh god of the arts and entertainment”, if you would have actually read the post (which apperently you didn’t), I stated that I USUALLY LIKE 3 or 4 tracks on U2’s albums. ALL OF THEM.

NEVER stated that I boycott them. Have MANY TIMES stated that political views in actors may rub me the wrong way, yet I still support them.

Alec Baldwin comes to mind. Couldn’t care less about his political vies, but find him to be one of the funniest men alive. ALWAYS enjoy his work. I have a buddy that refuses to “enjoy” him BECAUSE OF his politics. I’ve always found that silly. And have stated it many times on the blog.

All I stated was that Bono “the person on the news spouting his views” bugs me on occasion. Believe me. He’s still gotten PLENTY of my money, regardless of what I think of his politics.

As for integrity? What does politics and musical integrity have to do with one another? Please…. do tell. I can’t wait.

I totally agree with DOB’s 2:06 post. I could care less about the political views of entertainers. An entertainer’s political views are not going to impact my opinion/enjoyment of their work. I’ve always been amused by folks who let things like that bother them or impact their views on a particular entertainer’s work. Just as many of us “ordinary folk” express our political views on blogs, message boards, talk radio, etc., entertainers are bound to express their political views from time to time. We’re all human. We’re all going to have opinions on things.

Didn’t mean to get snippy. Actually I did, when I thought you were telling me to shut up.

But it appears that that post should have been directed at Lew, who obviously DOES have issues with U2’s politics, and lets it get in the way of him enjoying the music.

You stated:

“I care not about any musicians’ or actors’ politics, in terms of how it affects what I think about their work. Seriously, I just don’t have a problem with it.”

I couldn’t agree more. Which I think is now clear.

Tomahawkin, Dye is perfect, but I bet it’ll be awhile before Chi. decides to unload and become sellers. That’s only if they fall out of it, and from everything I’ve read on that team, they’re looking to build up this year.

Back to Derosa, he’s just not going to make much of a difference, he’s just not. Teams aren’t going to say to themselves, “UH OH, gotta pitch to Chipper because looky who’s on deck!” I haven’t looked at Mac’s #’s in the 4th-5th spot, but I’ve heard J.Simpson say it and some on this blog that his #’s are better hitting 5th. I worry about a trade for DeRosa and not being able to hold on to him after the 09 season. But quite frankly something needs to be done and soon. Our offence is so inconsistant. Love the pitching and that gives us a shot to win every night, but we gotta back it up with runs. Something needs to change, whether that means someone needs to be sent down or traded for. If DeRosa can be aquired and held on to and maybe another piece for the power-struggling OF is attained then things could change quick. The Braves are going to soon face a very difficult situation where they have too many pitchers. Based on Morton’s performance lately he and obviously Hanson are ready for the majors. We will see how Medlen pitches today but I have a good feeling that he has taken care of his nerves and will pitch well. You add these three to Glavine who will soon be ready assuming there is no set back in his last rehab start and our current starting 4, gives us 8 major league ready starters.

I have not been a fan of trading Vazquez but it may be the best move. I think a package including Vazquez, one of the younger pitchers, maybe Morton, and Frenchy could net us the hitter we need. This move also clears payroll. Move Hanson in the starting rotation and move Medlen to the bullpen. I think the Braves want to wait a few weeks to see how Glavine is going to do in his first few starts. Assuming he pitches well, I think we will see a trade.
