I was shocked to see that you said “butthead”. Young lady, we have to stop that kind of language now, or pretty soon you’ll be swearing worse than RHR. In the words of one of your favorites, and mine, “we have to nip it, nip it in the bud”.–(Mr. Fife)
Am I just being a pessimist, or does anybody else see this production has less to do with the Braves offense and more to do with the Diamondbacks’ screw ups?
DOB, did you ever check out that Kris Krstofferson interview (which was done by Ethan Hawke) that was in Rolling Stone a month or so ago? Dude’s got some interesting takes on life in general.
I know, I mean its not like he’s one of the best hitters in the league with runners in scoring position or something. I think the guy knows what he’s doing.
Texas has a large supply of outfielders. Marlon Byrd, Nelson Cruz, Andruw Jones, Josh Hamilton, and a guy named Murphy. They all hit, maybe they’d be looking to deal one of them(obviously not Hamilton or Cruz).
Minnesota also has a large supply of outfielders. Michael Cuddyer, Carlos Gomez, Denard Span, Delmon Young, and Jason Kubel. Delmon Young is kind of their Jeff Franceour, but he has always had a tremendous power potential, and has hit around 300 the last few years. He also has a cannon comparable to Frenchy’s.
DOB,
Sign Jim Edmonds to do what? I mean, what does he bring to the table? I just don’t see how he upgrades our team. People say he can play center, and I guess he “can” play center, but it’s not like he can play center well. He was horrible in the field at Wrigley last year, barely passable. No way he’d be able to handle center at the Ted. And he doesn’t hit left-handed pitching that well, so you’re basically looking at replacing Garret Anderson with Jim Edmonds. Is that an upgrade? I doubt it. Probably not a downgrade, but I can’t imagine it’d be much of an upgrade. Or he replaces Francoeur in right. And I don’t imagine that’s much of an upgrade either. His range is so limited any additional contribution he makes with the bat he probably gives back in the field. Or maybe we bring him on as a LH-Bench Bat. Which I’m not opposed to. He’d probably be more effective than Greg Norton. But I don’t think Edmonds helps us as a regular. I just don’t see it.
I know we are supposed to be looking for bats to assist the offense, but does anyone think the Braves could and/or should make a run at Cliff Lee? I would love to see us add a lefty to our rotation. What do you all think it would take for a Lee package?
Franceour’s at-bat just proved my point. If he gets a hit, it is a weak single to right. While the RBI hit gives the Braves a 1-0 lead, it doesnt mean that Franceour “has turned it around”. The odds were in Franceour’s favor of eventually getting a hit for an RBI at some point. However, in most cases, when Franceour hits it to right field, he ends up grounding out. The few hits that Franceour has gotten in the last month, have been weak singles to right. No power, no home runs, no hits off the wall…nothing but weak singles to right.
Jair Jurrgens “pulls” the ball down the right field line to knock in two runs. And he has a bad shoulder when it comes to swinging, lol. Take note Franceour.
are they seriously talking about chairs again? i mean, i know the braves have been playing some uninteresting baseball lately but cmon dudes…..yall are better than that.
Tonight would have been a good night to start Martin Prado in right field. With Escobar back at short tonight, Hernandez can be the back up infielder. If someone on the infield got hurt during the game, then Prado could move to the infield and then Franceour could be inserted in right. I feel that having Prado’s bat in the line-up would really help the Braves. Franceour basically is an automatic out.
I also think we need a bonafide leadoff hitter. Someone who is used to and comfortable setting the table for the offense? Do you think we should make a run at Pierre, Bourn or Taveras? I would have suggested Figgins but I feel the Angels are going to make a run now that Vlad is back there. We would move Anderson to the bench and DFA Norton. And go after DeRosa. Thoughts?
“The Arizona defense made the Atlanta Awfense look good”
The offense has been bad but give credit where credit is due. Big Error by Parra I think but GA got a double, Kotchman a hit, Francoeur a hit, and JJ a hit. Schafer put the ball in play instead of striking out which gave him a chance to get on base.
I know the starting pitching has been really good, I agree on that. However, it does help to have a good lefty in our rotation, Imagine putting him between Lowe and Jurrgens or between JJ and Javy. I know you would all agree on this would be a really good move.
Schafer is involved in another running getting nailed at the plate, eh? I wonder if Frenchy is just a tad bit jealous the kid is stealing his thunder..
Getting rid of Franceour’s remaining $2 mil in salary, combined with getting out of paying Glavine the $3.5 mil he would be due if he is added to the roster and plays the rest of the year….would free up $5.5 mil to go towards making a trade for a right handed corner outfield bat. If Glavine, at best, can give you 5-6 innings…..why not continue to throw Medlen out there and if he continues to struggle, call up Tommy Hanson.
Damn, what a relay home. Great throws from both Schafer and Kelly. Nice to see McCann hold on to the throw (just kidding, I’m a big fan of McCann).
First let me make one thing clear, I like and respect Terry Pendleton. He may even make a good manager some day..but.Yes the ”but” rears it’s ugly head ( so to speak ). Bottom line is TP just hasn’t proved to be a good hitting coach for The Bravos. I think it’s time to judge him by results..it’s time for a change.
Why can’t my boys trust me, man? I coulda knocked both them fools in. Why we gotta send a slow-a$$ man to the plate when they got a batting beast of a pitcher waitin’ to pounce?

PWH, the bat will come, like scoots said earlier today (last blog). He’s a rookie guys, don’t forget. He’s gonna struggle, whether it be now or after some seasoning at AAA. How often do you see guys come up and light the world on fire in their first two months? Take Adam Jones, a guy a lot of people want…he’s a stud this year, and was a top prospect for a while, but last year he OPSed .711 in his first full season, after TWO partial seasons before. Patience folks, he’s got the tools. He’ll learn how to use them eventually. And unlike Frenchy, he knows how to take a walk.

Richie
Nellie Cruz in left, Victorino in Center and Heyward in RF
Man I’m living a Fantasy…I might as well be banging Mariah and Erin Andrews…
Anyways back to reality…
It may be a hard pill to swallow but If Heyward and B. Jones are playing well a month from now we need to bring them up…
The F.O. was Cheap addressing the AWFense in the offseason so we need might need to go with the rookies, Much like we did in 2005…
