Garland just pulled a Chuck “New Kids On Knoblauch” error…
We got to take advantage…
Yeah, Delucci would be a very cheap imitation of Edmonds on the Braves just like Delucci’s ex Gina Lee Nolin was a very cheap imitation of Pamela Anderson on Baywatch
May 29th, 20099:45 pm
Uh. Yunel is clearly not ready to play.
Jim Edmonds would be a cheap option, really don’t think it would work, but he’d be cheap. But like I said before this team can’t afford to add more lefties to the lineup, unless Bobby platoons with Frenchy. But that would also mean the Braves need to send someone down to make room. And right now it would be either a pitcher or Greg Norton.

Phils are outhitting the Nats 15 to 6, but winning by one run. Gotta be some teeth gritting in Philly tonight….
May 29th, 20099:47 pm
That’s a grown man move right there.
That AB by Chip was definitely double pits to chesty.
Seriously, if Escobar can’t run any better than that, he has no business being on the field.
May 29th, 20099:48 pm
DOB, are you a Jamey Johnson fan? Going to hear him, Luke Bryan and Brantley Gilbert tomorrow in Rome. Should be good times. What say you.
Let’s give Jimmy Baseball a shot to get some time with the squad in CF and helping out Frenchy and then reevaluate around the break if we are still around the top.
Carrabba's Italian Grill
That Chipper hit was just that good.
Yunel would have scored if he had taken 2nd on the error. Hope nothing’s wrong with him.
B Mac could help Chipper by hitting one out to eliminate the need to run.
May 29th, 20099:49 pm
cricket he’s clearly not ready to be out there…I mean, he’s jogging to base. I know we need him but…not good.

“oh yeah, we’ve had such success by rushing Schafer up through the minors, a guy similar to Gorkys who has been rated as the better prospect for the most part. Lacking much sense to me dude.” nolie
Hmmm. Per 162 minor league games played (Schafer only has 63 more minor league games played than Gorkys (so in about 2 months they will have played about the same amount of minor leage games), Schafer averaged 15 HR per 162 games played. Gorkys has averaged about 7. Schafer averaged about 26 SB (while averaging being caught 14 times – not a great ratio). Gorkys meanwhile, has averaged 52 SB’s per 162 games played and gets caught about 12 times every 162 games).
Batting average in minors was .270 for Schafer with an OBP of .339 compared to Gorkys batting .290 with a .352 OBP. Not much difference.
But clearly, the speed is on Gorky’s side.
Last year, in 84 games at AA, Schafer hit .269 with an OBP of .378 (clearly he had plate discipline in the minors), with 10 HR and 51 RBI. (which “pro-rates” to about 20/100 in the HR/RBI dept.) Not bad at all.
Gorkys, in AA, is currently hitting .324 with an OBP of .375. But here’s the kicker.
In 320 minor league games, Gorkys has struck out 220 times (.68 times per game). In 383 minor league games, Schafer struck out 358 times (.93 times per game). So every 3 games, Schafer is gonna have about 3 K’s. Gorkys would have around 2.
Tell me that Schafer “putting the ball in play” 15-20 more times in the season’s first 47 games, wouldn’t have made a difference somewhere along the line?
Oh yeah. According to Shaun, an out is an out, right? Schafer (just like Francoeur) doesn’t have the power output to justify the K’s. Adam Dunn does. Ryan Howard does. Gorman Thomas did. Mike Schmidt did. Dale Murphy did.
I stand by what I stated. IMO, though a month or two worth of games behind Jordan’s “resume” of minor league games, Gorkys appears to be better prepared to not fail as badly as Schafer has so far.
Another Fcking DP!!!
That ump just about punched McCann with his out call.
Wish Brian Jordan were 20 again, and playing safety for the Falcons.
Wish Brian Jordan would retire from broadcasting.
May 29th, 20099:51 pm
Roman Gal – Your post about Disney Classics and the moniker McCannabis reminded of my college days and seeing this…
Say hello to my little… DP.
That double play was just that good.
May 29th, 20099:52 pm
That would be cool if an ump punches a player calling an out.
Get Escobar out of there. Geez, one of the few things you can count on Bobby for is protecting injuries. What the?
May 29th, 20099:53 pm
Ate an entire order of three crispy-shrimp tacos while watching that Chipper at-bat from the suites level here. Kid you not. That was a long at-bat. (Plus, the shrimp tacos are small. Good, but small.)
Oy, looks like the bottom of the lineup is scooting itslef up towards the top. DP’s, some sort of contagious disease.
May 29th, 20099:55 pm
“Jeff Francoeur, you couldn’t go 4 for 4 playing Guitar Hero with Helen Keller.”
To quote Ron Burgandy:
“I don’t know what it means. I’ll be honest, I don’t think anyone knows what it means…. That doesn’t even make sense.”
Either way. I laughed, so it must be funny, right?
May 29th, 20099:56 pm
Musta been funny in the middle of the woods N8….
Francoeur 3,Schafer 2, Anderson O Homeruns, Fulltime players
ANDREW JONES 5 HR Part time player
May 29th, 20099:57 pm
N8, yeah, I gotta little over-extended on that anecdote.
May 29th, 20099:58 pm
DOB, you should’a had the Johnny: it’s three of our founder’s favorites on the same plate. Why pick when you can have it all?
May 29th, 20099:59 pm
Crap, Derek’s back
May 29th, 200910:00 pm
ARF ARF pant pant slobber
You might be right about Edmunds, but almost a thrid of the season is gone, how long would you try Jim before deciding is time to dump him too? 1 month? That could be risky. I like your observation, but I think braves have waited too long and cant take anymore risks, the next move has to be a good move, not another risk, IMO.
Well, looks like GA is starting to heat up.
GA stung that ball.
Obviously of course ~_~
i cant take it anymore
Who said that you can’t trust a guy with two first names??
it make have been the espresso oak aged imperial yeti stout…
Boog: He needs more extra base hits
Let’s see him say something about Francoeur and Schafer now
May 29th, 200910:01 pm
Freshd, no doubt about it that our OF needs some HR’s, but I can’t manage to compare it to Andruw. He is someone that only hits bombs when he gets a hit, and he’s playing in Texas, which is the best HR hitters park outside of the new Yankee Stadium. I would expect nothing less from hhim as a part time player in a park like that.
“ANDREW JONES 5 HR Part time player”
the only possible explanation is that he juicing again … or since he’s away from TP, he’s actually getting help from what we like to call “A Hitting Coach” instead of “that guy over there whose only advice ever has been to keep your eye on the ball” (aka TP)
May 29th, 200910:02 pm
Ate an entire box of $5 pizza and a 25cent check cola…huh?
Hey, hey, hey, the boys from L.A.!
McCann was wearing his glasses to catch in the bottom of the first, if I’m not mistaken.
May 29th, 200910:03 pm
By GA I assume y’all mean GA Bulldogs and that 24-8 ass whuppin they put on the Buckeyes today.
GA has now hit safely in his last 7 games and in 14 of his last 15. But, that is only his second extra base hit in those 15 games (both doubles). Maybe he is warming up, finally.
Not watching the game (listening), are they pushing it with Escobar? Seems kind of silly to not DL him retroactive to the last time he played and roll with it, rather than aggravate it, and the be without him for two full weeks?
Or is he fine?
Does McFann like McDonald’s Big Mac hamburgers?
You know, with McCann’s nicknames and all….
Rally Killer Time!
Annnndddd here comes the 7,8, and 9 hitters aka out 1, 2, and 3.
May 29th, 200910:04 pm
FRENCHY 4 PREZ
Good golly miss molly.
RBI for Frenchy! he has risen again!
Maybe Boog will say Francoeur and Schafer need a Gwinnett vacation.
About Fcking Time Francoeur! Nice
OMG he’s figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
N8, he can’t run. Like…at all.
Way to prove me wrong, Jeff. I’ll take it!
Rob in Mobile
DOB, like your 9:30 post. Edmonds won’t be the same guy who averaged 30 HR all those years, but I’d bet, at major league minimum, his numbers would easily outpace Frenchy’s and Schafer’s. And if he doesn’t work out, no harm, no foul.
May 29th, 200910:05 pm
I’m a chump.
Frenchy teases us occasionally
3 nice ABs – hit it where they pitch it.
Get it through yall heads im not signing with the braves
May 29th, 200910:06 pm
Sitting there watching Frenchy bat, I wasn’t thinking “don’t screw up”. I was thinking “come on Frenchy!”. I’m still pulling for you Frenchy.
Maybe Chipper and Yunel should call Goldberg & Osborne.
If I give up a hit to both Francoeur and Schafer in one inning, I’m taking up golf.
You appear to be correct my dear…went back and checked and Mac was wearing the glasses to catch
May 29th, 200910:07 pm
Nice, About time we get some breaks!!!
I said all the same things y’all are now saying about Edmonds about Andruw in spring training…and yet…
Way to go, K’fer!
Schafer comes through!
That was a cute little barrel role by the 2B
wow, that was almost a great play by the 2B. Good placement from Schafer
Looks like you’re due tonight, boys. I hope you enjoy the victory.
With bases loaded…no stupid bunt! Woo-hoo!
OMG, I think I might have died and gone to fan heaven. They’ve been perfect this inning.
D-backs gonna outsuck us? YES!
May 29th, 200910:08 pm
Who are these players we are seeing? I bet they are body snatchers,
4 straight hits? That’s DP to C for sure.
The air’s really dry in Arizona. Guess McCann’s not worried about them fogging up here?
Scott: Jamey Johnson’s really strong, man. One of the few young guys doing real country, hard country, the “outlaw” kind. Love it. His That Lonesome Song CD was one of my favorites from 2008, listened to it alot driving around during spring training. I went back and got his first CD — it’s good, though not as raw or edgy or whatever as the second one.
No other manager in MLB would keep a rookie batting .200 in the lineup EVERYDAY. I think he has only missed 3-4 innings all season. At least move him around in the batting order. No other manager in MLB would do a lot of things that Bobby does. He is partly to blame for the downfall of A Jones (letting him get away with everything) and a few other players. I am sure he also made the decision about J Anderson. Nothing is going to change until we get new leadership. The Braves are what they are – a 500 team at best. If you think about the whole situation, it is really sad and it looks like the only thing we have to look forward to is the return of T Glavine. Cannot wait until he gets back on board. Bobby will freak out trying to figure out what to do after he pitches his 4-5 innings.
Double J we need a bloop hit…Please
Just swing hard, JJ, a strike out is okay here.
there* not here
Wow….and a few people on this blog mentioned the Braves signing Garland. Not impressed so far.
HAHAHAH! DP TO C!
oh man, triple!
May 29th, 200910:09 pm
Or a double.
There We GO!!!!!!
JJJ has taken matters in his own hands finally
J.J. saying, I’ll make sure I get enough run support tonight, even if I have to do it myself.
Ha, looks like the D-Backs have taken over the Braves crappy defensive play!
What did I tell you?
You look like you’re going to the World Series because of me.
that a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha. They were trying to have Schafer sacrifice ahead of the pitcher until there were two strikes. I’m sure glad they don’t want to ruin his confidence by giving him a day or two off.
Just take the K, Jair. Don’t even mess with that shoulder. Just stand there …. hey wait. LMAO a freakin triple on the error. Wow. Are we playing ourself tonight? Looks like it.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
