As hapless as the Braves offense has been, let’s keep this in mind, guys: the Cubs scored 5 runs in 5 games last week. Fontenot, Lee, Soto, and Bradley are batting .223, .242, .216, and .200 respectively.
Dempster, Zombrano, and Harden all have ERA’s above 4.00. Can you imagine how much vitriol would circulate this blog if those were our stats?

I take it back no one on this team deserves to be on the all star team that plays offense. McCann does but like you said he’s been out for awhile. Lowe and Jurrjens deserve to be on the all star team and it would be a crime if they don’t make it. Especially Jurrjens who has had no run support.

I’m embarrassed to have a guy hitting .246 with 2 homers and 7 RBIs “protecting” Chipper. That’d be like having Dan Kolb or Bob Wickman as your closer.

Very disappointed in Kawakami. Thought he was on track, but thought wrong. I think this is going to be a team of extreme highs and lows until they start doing those little things consistantly. I hate saying this, but the Mets are a better team right now. Oh, and the Phillies are two steps better right now.

Phillies pitching is still a MAJOR issue for them though. There is no doubt that they have the top offense in the division, but they’ve still got some issues on that pitching staff. After 2-3 encouraging outings, Brett Myers had another rough one tonight before leaving w/hip inflammation. Brad Lidge has been extremely shaky. Jamie Moyer has been awful and possibly giving us a preview of what we’re in store for with Glavine next month. Blanton has struggled aside from last night’s start.

I think that if we added one decent bat, that we would see some real improvement. The games missed so far with nagging injuries and Mac’s eye issues have be problematic.
I really think a clean up hitter makes all the other players better in their true spots.

I wish the Braves would play with a little more pride, here.
Seems like if the Braves win a few games and get 3 or 4 games over .500, they lose 3 or 4 and get at or below .500.
This is frustrating beyond comprehension.

Lets see…………most HR from KJ in a season……..16
How many times Ryan Sandberg hit less than that from 1984 to 1992………..just once.
How many 2b hit at least the same amount of HR he hit last season? 7…………thats half the leagues 2b, not to mention Belliard (Nats) and Barnes(Col) hit 11 HR and had at least 150 less AB than he did. That makes it 9 2b with more at least the same amount of HR he hit in his best season.
He is tied for 5th in HR this season, but we all know he will hit 15 at best……….and he might not finish the season in Atl.
So if KJ is not the power guy you like to think Boo, and he is not a guy that hits for AVG and he is not a great guy with the glove and he is not a base stealer………… what is he? just a mediocre 2b.
Thats all he is……….some power, but not near the power of the elite 2b in the majors……….no base stealing treath———–no high average and horrible mistakes with the glove………….what do we have?

a643dp, this is “twilight zone” kind of stuff going on. Jim Powell just remarked this is the “worst four innings the Braves have played this season, and yet they’re only down 2-0.”
Powell just commented with a hint of disgust about Francoeur swinging at the first pitch, too, by the way.

Randy Johnson had an ERA over 6.00 before this game started. If Frank Wren has too much patience, then his 96 million dollar team is not going to break 80 wins this year. As good as this team is at preventing runs, the trio of Lowe/Jurrjens/Vasquez won’t be this good all year long. So that means you need to score more runs. Also, the 4th and 5th spots in this rotation suck.

So let me get this straight…Francoeur is number 68 out 69 as far as MLB OF’s making outs and Bobby Cox continues to play this guy EVERY single game? I’m lost, and Joe S. is trying his darndest to make Frenchy not look so bad to the world, but the numbers don’t lie. Of course, he knows Jeff is young and doesn’t want to bash him like 98% of others do. But man, that’s just sad.

I know this game isn’t over but they seem like they are just trying to get to the off day. I don’t boo when I go to games but I Would if I was at the game tonight. It’s one thing to get shut down by great pitching but it’s another to don’t care about getting Punk’d by the Jubroni teams of the league

Amazing that the Atlanta Hawks drafted all those big white dudes (Adam Keefe, Cal Bowdler, etc.) in the 90s and early ’00s and they all sucked. The one exception was Pau Gasol and of course he’s the one they traded immediately after drafting him.

KJ is 10th in the majors in HR among 2b.
23……..count them…………23 guys that play 2b have more SB than him.
18………….count them……18 2b have a better batting avg than him in the majors.
20 second baseman have more RBI than him
11 second baseman have a better F% than him
