Well 2 blockable WP, and 2 plays where he came out in front of the plate garners that little criticism. Especially with KK pitching.lol
I also like how DOB added a heart to his last paragraph. We heart you too, DOB. <3
My God. The team of Hank, Justice, McGriff, Gant, the Big Cat etc. has Martin Prado batting clean-up tonight. Good little ballplayer but the frigging clean-up hitter?
We have issues.
Eric from MO
Doc go be a Yankees fan.
May 27th, 20098:57 pm
McCann hasn’t faced Johnson for a reason; very few lefties get a chance to face Johnson.
And of course Eric, you think that the Braves have a shot at 90 wins? Now, who is a dumb blogger? That is as stupid a comment as you can make. The Braves will have a successful season if they win more than they lose. The last time the Braves won more than lost was 2007 and they had 4 players who drove in more than 90 runs that year. Who on this current team do you see driving in 90 or better? I doubt that Chipper will get the chance to with his injuries and the way pitchers pitch around him.
May 27th, 20098:58 pm
Eric from MO
To elaborate, he’s proven he can’t hit without Arod in the lineup. Which means he gets more fastballs. Anyone that can’t carry a team by himself, at least while hitting 3rd, ain’t worth no darn 20 million per.
So when did 0-4 become a trend. Sounds like a bad game to me.
I don’t think he’ll do too bad, either. And Ross playing give me less to think about when the game’s goin’ on and I’m trying to sleep.
May 27th, 20099:00 pm
Amen…lol. I still can’t believe the game started at 9 pm (here) last night and ended before midnight (here)
Eric from MO
Jerry no, I picked them to finish 3rd. I picked the Phillies to win 90. Difference I at least dont over react about everything.
Exactly Bravos, how was he doing when Arod was out?
bravos2249 Well 2 blockable WP, and 2 plays where he came out in front of the plate garners that little criticism.
Yeah yeah…He blocked that one pitch as best he could, and Fred Lewis was SO freaking out…
May 27th, 20099:01 pm
Omar Infante vs. Johan Santana is what ownage looks like. David Ross was a different man back then, and he didn’t have the formidable combination of Jordan Schafer and Kenshin Kawakami hitting behind him back then either.
It is great to have Chipper back, no doubt, even slowed with pain… but the holes seem so significant without Escobar in the lineup…. seems like when Kelly bats lower and Escobar leads off we have a completely different level of offensive potency. For me a completely different level of hope even before the game begins
So the question now Jerry who is the dumber bloggger? hmmmmmmmmmmm
May 27th, 20099:02 pm
RHR, could’ve been worse – MFin04 and Jerry could have been talking back to you!
Got a guess, Lew? I still haven’t gotten any.
Tex was hitting .198 with 3 homers before Arod got back. Now he’s hitting .280 with 15 jacks.
May 27th, 20099:03 pm
Yeah, Ross has done well this year, with all of his .263 average. Dumb!
Good perspective @ 8:58
ps where are the guidelines on how to bold or do other special character stuff…
gonna watch a movie for a bit here….
It started at 10:15 here…yeah, it really stinks.
May 27th, 20099:04 pm
Still he has to be scared to recieve a catch at the plate. After Brynes and Victorino. He needs to realize not everyone is going to knock him out. No pun intended.
Jamie Foxx on the George Strait isn’t dead yet but he’s getting pretty old tribute special? Huh.
Steve from OH
Yeah, he has. .382 OPB and .492 SLG. Dumb!
May 27th, 20099:05 pm
Ross lead the team/was tied with the lead in homers for awhile. He’s got 3 homers buddy. He ain’t no Corky or Pratt. Get OVER it. Mac can’t play 162.
Oh Jerry, you keep making such nice friends like McFann and Eric from MO, your making your mother so happy!
May 27th, 20099:06 pm
I was thinking it was something like that Bravos.
Jerry he has a .380 OBP and 3 homeruns in 57 at bats. If take that with a normal amount of plate appearances,600, he would hit 35. The BA is an overated statistic, which is greatly outweighed by his OBP. OBP has much more to do with winning than BA. Once again you show why you are a moron.
May 27th, 20099:07 pm
Roman Gal – What? Picture like this?
9:01 = good stuff too!
May 27th, 20099:08 pm
Eric from MO,
Are you a lissencephalic patient?
May 27th, 20099:09 pm
It seems to me that the market dictates a player’s value rather than our opinions of that player. I think 20 million is way too much to pay for anything, but I don’t have that kind of money to throw around. A few mlb teams do. I do not think that Teixeira’s lack of performance in the early season is indicative of anything other than his career norm. Tex has always been a slow starter and given time he likely would have produced with or without A-Roid in the lineup.
May 27th, 20099:10 pm
Oooh, big word from Doc. We’re all impressed..
Rob (from SC)
Any news on wether Medlen will get the ball on Sunday
May 27th, 20099:11 pm
I also like how DOB addressed every one of the recent comments in today’s blog and yet…the same tired crap is still being hashed, rehashed, backed up and ran over again.
Danga while market shows the value of a player doesnt mean much to me. Look last year at the Rays. The Rays werent making much more than Arod. Now would you rather have the whole Rays team or just Arod?
Urban Braves Fan is a shmuck
May 27th, 20099:12 pm
AJC – must we be subjected to this racist crap. It’s not funny or clever in any way.
Or does the AJC wish to drive away all african american bloggers?
so DOB what are the braves options for patchwork til july? with bobby’s patience is frenchy really gonna get playing everyday until then? I don’t mind schafer struggling as much cause his defense is plus and he has those good ABs sometimes. love the blog! thanks!
May 27th, 20099:13 pm
Roman Gal “David Ross was a different man back then, and he didn’t have the formidable combination of Jordan Schafer and Kenshin Kawakami hitting behind him back then either.”
May 27th, 20099:14 pm
You mean that stuff at the top of the page? You think we should really be bothered to read that stuff? Hah! You’re losing it, I tell ya!
May 27th, 20099:16 pm
Just got home and saw you on the board, hope all went well and they gave you some good meds!
May 27th, 20099:19 pm
The whole Rays team any day. No doubt they developed a team the right way, but it took a lot of painful seasons to get them to that point. There is certainly no way that team stays together without some serious cash being sunk into it at some point. Who doubts that Longoria won’t one day make A-Roid kind of money? That is the challenge smaller market teams face. They have to be great at identifying and developing talent in order to keep putting competitive teams on the field because they’ll never be able to keep that kind of talent together.
May 27th, 20099:20 pm
RHR – similar thought on Jamie Foxx (not a huge country fan, but I’d be happy to look as good as George at his age (is 57 really that old?) – which is closer than I’d like to admit).
You’re right, Roman Gal. First talking to myself and then thinking people read. Next thing you know I’ll probably turn into a Frenchy fan. Oh how I weep for my lost youth.
Speaking of youth, nscoots, your comment about park adjusted age on the last blog made me choke on my drink. Funniest comment I’ve read today.
Lew, hope everything went well today.
Never thought I would say this but why not trade for Andruw Jones for now then closer to the deadline pick up one of the big time bats that are going to be available.
May 27th, 20099:22 pm
…But I’m not saying anything that everyone doesn’t already know.
May 27th, 20099:23 pm
man, I really hate these games out west. So bored waiting for the game.
Does anyone else hate the taste of all beer? Friggin’ nasty.
May 27th, 20099:24 pm
Now 5-2 Marlins
Hey Jim, George is hot for an older man. I don’t think he’s old really, I mean, he’s younger than my dad, (which, by the way, is my qualifier for how old is too old) and he’s a country music legend. I just don’t get this tribute thing, it’s like he’s dead or 95 or something. Which is why I called it whatever I did.
Surprisingly, Jamie Foxx ain’t half bad of a singer.
Well, there’s 2 markets. The market for players and the market for players that the Yankees make offers to. The latter is a much steeper market.
Who’s overreacting Eric? I’ve consistantly pointed out what I think are the flaws to this team. You haven’t see me once jump on the bandwagon when we win a few games, and then follow that up with b!tching when we lose a few. That is overreacting. In fact, I bet you and I see more eye-to-eye on this team than you are willing to admit. Probably the biggest difference is that I think it’s funny as hell how many ways this team can find to lose games. Just goes to show that life is a cycle of events. The Braves are well on their way to those oh so lonesome days of the 70s & 80s. Outside of their top 3 pitchers, they are already there. And the only thing that gives any hope of avoiding such a collapse is their minor league system.
May 27th, 20099:25 pm
did anyone see the Mets F-Mart not running out a pop up to the catcher in fair territory. Note the catcher didn’t catch it and he was out at 1st.
May 27th, 20099:26 pm
Two great bands – Pixies and Jesus and Mary Chain. I know them well. I prefer the Jesus and Mary Chain’s version of “Head On”. How about Cody, Gorkys, and the Hey man? Could they
be any worse? I know we’d be rushing them but so what. .
Here are the instructions for making smilies.
And here are the instructions for bolding, italicizing, linking, etc. I’ve updated it with new features such as bold italics and making bold links–that’s why I’m a little late with it.
Enjoy the movie!
Yeah, I’m sure he’s thinking about that a little bit. [sigh]…you don’t know how bad I want him to make a really good, pain-free out at the plate…especially now…
Next thing you know I’ll probably turn into a Frenchy fan. RHR
You’ve got a support group here who will never let that happen.
May 27th, 20099:27 pm
Very true there PWHjort. I just hope the Yankees keep finding ways to spend all that money while continuing not to win WS titles.
May 27th, 20099:28 pm
Whoa….whoa…whoa… ALL BEER??? Now thats the craziest thing said on the blog in a while. Crazier than a Francoeur for Bay trade…
RHR – some kind of Artist of the Decade Award – just another excuse to gather all the stars and get ratings since this is a rare week with no awards show – not that there’s anything wrong with that.
May 27th, 20099:29 pm
Jerry, why on Earth do u call yourself a fan?
Dangit McFann! I was looking forward to finally learning to use bold and italics and you go leading me on with that false link. Shame on you!
May 27th, 20099:30 pm
Doesn’t suprise me at all that Boston has been scouting JF. They are the best organization in baseball. JF, like all FOUR of the great youngsters we sent to Texas, is a byproduct of the Braves Minor League system (also the best in baseball). I’ll bet money JF has a higher BA and more RBI’s (THIS SEPTEMBER) than the guy he is traded for.
RHR, a kind word from you is the sun rising in the east over the pines. Much thanks. You and our other distaff bloggers are very much un-lame, BTW.
OK, with maybe the exception of gayle, but I don’t know if that blogger is female. Sure ain’t no lady, though…more broom and bad monkeys, I’m thinking.
May 27th, 20099:31 pm
Well, to drink or not to drink while watching this one tonight…
Whoa….whoa…whoa… ALL BEER???
Yeah, all beer. It tastes horrible. I think people “make” themselves like it because it is a cheap way to get drunk or something. Nasty, nasty liquid.
May 27th, 20099:32 pm
“He’s got on his McCann jersey.” DOB
Yeah, but does he have a Whitesnake T-Shirt on under it?
May 27th, 20099:34 pm
May 27th, 20099:35 pm
Boo. That is just crazy talk.
May 27th, 20099:36 pm
SoWeGa exactly! A fan doesnt laugh when his team loses. Besides our trio of pitchers is what great teams are built around. I have said since September it would take 2 years(2010) for us to be good again and thats if we built our team right. Which we have. I have no problem being .500 this year and being good next year. We had so many holes at the end of last year you couldnt relistically expect Wren to fix it all in one offseason. There isnt enough time. I just hope we dont trade for Holiday. Lets keep those prospects for a good offseason trade. Also gives us a couple more months to know which prospects to keep.
Pretty crazy that the five pitchers the Royals used today were all Braves prospects or at least once on the team.
We’re like a feeder system of suckiness.
May 27th, 20099:37 pm
Well hell, by all means, we must get Ross into the lineup more often.
May 27th, 20099:38 pm
For everyone who still wants to see Logan in the leadoff spot, he should become a second table setter by batting 9th.
May 27th, 20099:39 pm
Yeah I want Davies with those 8 runs given up today.
Oh Jerry now SoWeGa Fanatic loves you!
May 27th, 20099:41 pm
just look at all the all-star talent the braves have traded in the last 4 years. enough said right there
for really what? 1 year stop-gap fixe’s? Salty,LaRoach, ANDREW(YEAH I’M INCLUDING HIM)
i know some left as free agent’s, but there seem’s to be a pattern here, braves have talent-braves
trade talent,or refuse to pay for talent. rfan’s are going to see through cox’s and js. crap sooner or later hopefully? half the all-star team’s are going to be filled with ex-braves, if playing for cox is so
great why is all of this all-star talent not playing for cox.period
May 27th, 20099:42 pm
“Nasty, Nasty liquid.”
Wow, you must have had one type of beer in your life. You do realize there are literally thousands of different types and flavors.
May 27th, 20099:43 pm
False link? Shoot…sorry about that. Lemme try again:
(This is for you, too, Bruce):
Dude is more Wu-Tang than Whitesnake, bro.
May 27th, 20099:44 pm
So, Every Brave fan should wait on next year ?!
Jerry H – just curious, since I’ve been in and out – is your point that McCann should play every game all year?
May 27th, 20099:45 pm
Gracias! That one works.
CB, I love everyone, even idiots.
May 27th, 20099:46 pm
Adrian Gonzalez just hits #18.
May 27th, 20099:47 pm
OK, that one works. I was somewhat suspicious when my link showed up in blue letters. Usually when it’s a link that you’ve visited already it shows up in gray letters.
May 27th, 20099:48 pm
You’re welcome! Always happy to be of service!
Since the Braves first announced Medlen was coming up to the majors, Hanson has made three starts and gone 2-0 while allowing one run, eight hits and four walks with 23 strikeouts in 20 innings.
That qualifies for a “Wow.”
May 27th, 20099:49 pm
N8, no he doesn’t have a Whitesnake T-shirt under it. Because he seems like a pretty cool dude, see. And Whitesnake is not cool.
Oh Jerry you are just the center of attention! Maybe you won’t have to that old nasty stuff any more!
May 27th, 20099:50 pm
6-2 going to the bottom of the 9th
Great options to have! Coffee and a pastry will have to do here while I try to get some work done. *SIGH* how nice to be able to watch the games at normal hours….
You know, the sad thing about Frenchy is that a change of scenery might do him wonders. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him put up some excellent numbers and rebuild his career away from his hometown and with the tutelage of a decent hitting instructor. KC or Cleveland, anyone? How about Seattle? An outfield with Frenchy and Ichiro- now that’d cut down on runners taking an extra base! Boston would be a horrible choice- if he’s raked over the coals on this blog, can you imagine the Fenway denizens after a game or two where he’s left a boatload of runners on base?
Regardless, Frenchy needs a fresh start somewhere, and we need to get something of decent value in return, whether that’s now, or later in the season.
Damn Adam Dunn Has 16 Homers…”Can I get a F-You” to the Braves F.O. in that they didn’t pursue him, Knowing damn well our AWFense would look like this after 40+ games
May 27th, 20099:53 pm
The Braves offical is mistake, as the Red Sox have been scouting Francoeur–for clubhouse attendant. You surely cannot imagine that a stupid, undisciplined sack of garbage like Francoeur will ever be allowed the priveledge of donning a Boston uniform.
It is impressive that such a worthless player, is given so many opportunities to fail. Looks like the Braves have become a loser franchise.
May 27th, 20099:54 pm
I don’t think the F.O. thought he would not hit HRs, they did not have $10 million a year to spend on Dunn.
Oh please don’t let that comment start the N8 vs DOB musical taste arguement.
May 27th, 20099:56 pm
When will the blame for our poor offense finally be laid onto the man whose job is supposed to be helping the hitters? Terry Pendleton has no idea how to help a hitter because he just waits for them to come to him. A real hitting instructor sees that there is a problem and immediatle starts working with the player to correct it.
May 27th, 20099:57 pm
I hope Chipper does more than his “early single then take the night off” thing tonight.
May 27th, 20099:58 pm
Have A Tokyo Tea while Your watching this game…
Its Tomahawkin’s Signature drink when he goes out…
Its a Long Island with Midori Liqeuor and Sprite instead of topping it off with Coke (Which I think Is more bitter)
And BTW, It Get’s You F’d Up quick…
May 27th, 20099:59 pm
My bad ! I thought Dunn had 18 ! still outstanding ! Where are you people who said Dunn was a liability in the field ! where are you ?!
Anyone know why on all the photos of the possible Brave trade acquisition candidates, it says “AP” underneath? I’m just curious.
Does that refer to the photos? Or is the stuff DOB writes for the AJC picked up by the AP? It’s slightly confusing for my brittle, feeble mind.
May 27th, 200910:00 pm
Yes they did have the money !! They went and got KK !!
May 27th, 200910:01 pm
Well The Mets are Slapping the Nats…It seems like the Braves are the only team that the Nats can beat, Go Figure?
Phillies are losing which is good
