May 27th, 2009
8:14 pm

Eric from Mo. Have you cast an all-star ballot yet? If not, go and cast one. When you get to the NL catchers, click the compare stats link and compare each NL catcher. Even though Mac was on the DL he still has better numbers than the other guys on the ballot!

Other than Ozzie Smith and a few others whose names are forgettable, when has the best defensive player been named to that all-star team based on being the best defensive guy at his position?

Last year the Cubs fans stuffed the boxes for their guy at catcher (and Fukodome). The year before that it was Martin. McCann has been the most consistent guy at his position in his league going on 4 years now. Ask any manager if they would rather have Yadier Molina or B Mac and unless you’re talking to LaRussa, I would say the vast majority would choose Mac. Molina is a good defensive catcher, without a doubt better than Mac in that department, but McCann should be the choice going away for the all-star game!

I like Prado and love when he is in the lineup, but him batting cleanup shows a pretty weak lineup, but then again there is not much of a better option. Hes probably the best hitter this side of Chipper on the team. He’s probably the best clutch hitter in the lineup as well.

One things for sure, that bottom part of the lineup needed to be broken up. 6. Francouer, 7. Hernandez, 8. Schafer. 9. Pitcher. Talk about a black hole.

A Francoeur trade to Boston would almost require the Braves to have another trade in place, wouldn’t it? It doesn’t seem that Boston would have any available OF — Ellsbury’s too affordable for too long, and he’s not a power bat anyway. Jason Bay is too productive and will be a free agent after this season, so it’d be another Teixeira/JD Drew trade and one that Wren probably wants to avoid. Balldelli and Drew are both injury risks. So who would we get in return from them? Doesn’t seem like they’d be a good match.

The glass is half full people! Take any team in baseball and take away the 2,3,4,5 hitters away for significant time and then take 3 more hitters hitting .250 or less and guess where they would be in the standings! This team and management has found a way to be two and a half games out of first with all kind of things going wrong. If they can stay close like this, get and stay healthy and have some guys turn the corner. Well this could be a very good season after all. I just find it amazing this team is this close in a very tough division and people are jumping off bridges around here!

There’s a lot of ridiculous stuff posted here, but the Wren-bashing takes the cake. Do those of you bashing him not realize that in the past 18 months he’s brought in your excellent 1-4 starters, your best utility guy, resigned your living legend, held fast to keep your brilliant shortstop and top prospects, brought in a very good backup catcher, salvaged the Teixeira trade by getting a good, young first baseman, effectively replaced an expensive, overrated LOOGY with a waiver claim and brought a Japanese fanbase to Atlanta?

You say “Smoltz!” Well, looks like he is done. You say “Dunn!”, but if he was here you’d bitch about his defense, strikeouts, price tag and lefthandedness. Josh Anderson? Come on. Get over it already.

For everyone who is overreacting about Prado batting cleanup remember last time we were all whining about him hitting cleanup? We scored like 7 or 8 runs…Besides do we really have a good option? No we dont, stop blaming Bobby for a bad lineup when we have a bad team.

Interesting Decision

May 27th, 2009
8:42 pm

So Ross is not just 0-4 against Johnson but 0-4 with 4 k’s!

Your team is struggling to score runs and you take perhaps your best current hitter out of the lineup and replace him with a guy who is O’fer and all strikeouts against tonights starter?

Mac needs a day off I’m sure, but at least give him the off day when his replacement is not a guaranteed out! So not only do we not have our best hitter in the lineup, we got O’fers in the 6-7-8-9 spots in the order!

And that is what drives me nuts about this organization!

Ok this really needs to stop. The NL EAST is one of the weakest division in baseball. There is not one complete team. That is why you can be 2.5 games while being .500 The Mets have bad starting pitching. The Phillies have horrible pitching.
