I sure hope the braves front office has learned their lesson the last couple of years and decide not to trade the farm (at least none of the top 5 prospects in the system) to try and get an outfield bat. As bad as we need one, I don’t want to have to watch the prospects the send out turn it to great players for other teams like the package of players with the rangers that were sent there in the tex trade.
“I’ll be treading lightly, but I felt like I could go out there and, you know, play,” he said.
Look, I know Chipper is from Deland — even if he went to, ahem, The Bolles School — but what else could he do if he, you know, went out there to play? Stand there and let the pigeons crap on him?
Nice AB, Schafer. Let that be the start of something.
I received a copy of the phone conversation transcript between Ken Rosenthal and the unnamed GM which prompted him to write that the Red Sox are eyeing Francoeur:
Rosenthal: Hi there, Mr. GM. What can you tell me about the market for Francoeur?
GM: Well, Ken, as you most probably know, there isn’t much of one. For some reason, Dayton Moore still loves him. I don’t know why.
Rosenthal: Come on, Mr. GM. Tell me something everyone doesn’t already know.
GM: That’s pretty much all I know, Ken. No team in their right mind really wants him.
Rosenthal: Can’t you give me ANYTHING?
GM: Well, this isn’t real news, but you might find it entertaining. At one point, the Red Sox actually looked at bringing Francoeur in. Can you imagine? I mean, talk about a player completely opposite their philosophy.
Rosenthal: I’ll go with that.
As bad as Schafer has been, B.J. Upton has arguably been even worse. And considering how good Upton was last season and in the postseason, that’s just shocking to me. I thought he was ready to burst on the scene as the next superstar, the way he looked in the postseason.
Before today, Upton was hitting .197 with two homers, nine RBI, a .291 OBP and a .291 slugging percentage, with 52 strikeouts in 165 at-bats. Only thing he was doing better than Schafer was stealing bases (Upton had 14).
PWHjort, I don’t think it’s so much that Jeff is struggling why people gag at the thoguht of Frenchy as much as it’s people’s perception that the kid is so dang stubborn. He’s obviously giving that off to more than just us Braves fans. That whining he did last year after having to go to the minors definitely didn’t help.
You are just mad because everyone in the league says braves pitchers are living up to the hype !! And guess what ?!! That’s without Hudson, Hanson and Glavine !! They are coming baby to a show near you !!!

Much better first inning than his last start… you can still see the nerves and adrenaline though, but a tiny bit more controlled this time out.
Would like to see the Braves give him a run or two to maybe take a little pressure off and let the kid throw.
