RHR, there was a strong wind in KC and Brodie fell over. Just kidding. He seperated his shoulder in September. Which was, if I’m not mistaking, his 3rd “leave the game” injury, in his 7 NFL starts at that point.
Dude’s skinny body, just can’t take the punishment of the NFL. He’ll probably make a nice journeyman/backup QB for somebody. But doubt he’ll ever be able to stand up to the beating that NFL QB’s take week in and week out.
On Chiefs message boards, he’s referred to as “Brokie Croyle”. I like him. I wish he’d hold up better. CANNON of an arm, and he’s pretty mobile. But unfortunately, when your QB rolls out, and runs, he’s eventually gonna get hit. Which is fine if your QB is Jamarcus Russell, or Daunte Culpepper. But not Brodie “bones” Croyle.
N8,
I have NEVER, on this thread or others, stated that it was a given that Vazquez will have better numbers than Lowe at the year’s end. I stated that it is possible that Lowe will be the worst of the 5. Which is possible. But I never said, nor do I think, that it’s a given.
Um Mfin did you see him his last 11 batters. While I overreacted and said to send him down, I guess we can give him one more start. He earned it with the way he recovored.
I think if you leave out the “/” in the 2nd “strong” at the end of what you’re trying to make bold, it just assumes that there is no end to the bold. I seem to do it once every other day.
If Lincecum strikes out 19 do the Giants have to pay you a dollar to come watch his next performance??? Maybe that’s why they have such a high attendance… just joshin ya crazy bloggers.
You are ready to write off Medlen as a flop after walking the pitcher in his second big league outing. Especially after he came back and retired the last 11 baters? I sure am glad you aren’t the Braves GM.
First Arizona, then the Rockies, and now the Giants
Based on this wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the braves sweep the dodgers when they play on.
A Jekyll and Hyde team if I’ve ever seen one. Sweep the former first place Blue Jays, sure!! Lose 2-3 (maybe even swept, we don’t know yet) to the Giants … why not!!
PWHjort, sorry. Wasn’t trying to nitpick. I just assumed that since you said it was possible that Lowe could be the worst pitcher on the team, that that meant you were saying that Vazquez would be better.
I realize you used the word “possible”. Didn’t mean to accuse you of saying it was a given. It’s just the way it read without actually saying it.
Similar to me saying, that if Francoeur steps it up, it’s possible that Jermaine Dye could be our worst LF at the end of the year.
Sure, Dye isn’t on the team. But it’s possible that he might be. Had I stated the above sentence, one would assume that I think it’s a given that Dye will be on the team.
Again. Not that big of a deal. I just read it wrong, and assumed what you meant by it. My bad.
Well apart from that bad inning by Medlen he was outstanding. And understandably the offense had trouble getting runs of one of the best pitchers in baseball. Can say I’m surprised by today’s result so far, but yesterday they should have won.
Smoltz (2-7, 5.48 ERA, 10 HR in 64 IP) and Glavine (2-4, 5.54 ERA, 5 HR in 50 1/3 IP) didn’t exactly set the world on fire in their first stints in the majors. I think Medlen will be OK, given time.
I hate to say it but I think BMAC is coming out in front of the plate so much because he is afraid to take a hit from the runner. We have seen him do this several times this year and it is costing us runs.
KJ’s leading off cause Escobar put his pants on wrong again and hurt himself which is typical….. Anyone that cares… Tommy Hanson was dominate again tonight.
Tomahawkin I dont think you can really blame Bobby on the lineups. You look at the team and I see 4 positions that cant hit. All the outfields and pitcher. No manager can put out a good lineup with those holes.
It seems that Medlen can’t retire the opposing pitcher, well at least that’s the story on his two major league starts. If he gets one more outing I think he’ll do pretty good, he really seemed to settle down after Renteria’s single.
For all you Matt Holiday bashers out there, I’m watching the A’s play the Mariners right now while flipping back and forth between that game and the Braves game…..before coming to the plate in the bottom of the 7th, Holiday was batting .267 with 6 homers and 27 RBI’s, while playing in a ballpark that is even more of a pitcher’s park than Turner Field. Still, he has those numbers while missing the first 2 weeks of the season and getting off to a slow start.
Anyway, he comes to the plate, 2 outs, bottom of the 7th, bases loaded, A’s down 3-1. He proceeds to take 4 balls to walk in a run. Giambi then hits a first pitch fastball for a 2 run single. Point is, if it was Franceour, he would have swung at ball 1 that Holliday laid off and probably hit a weak grounder to short The A’s arent going anywhere this year. Billy Beane will take a decent package for Holliday. Trading for Holliday would allow Bobby to hit Chipper 3rd, Holliday 4th, and McCann 5th. I’d put Kotchman in the 7th spot.
When Escobar comes back, I hope that Bobby Cox considers putting Prado in right field. Prado can hit. I’d send Franceour down to Triple A, and let Hernandez be the back up infielder. I’d bring up Blanco to replace Franceour.
Orioles are bringing up Matt Wieters this week, Rays brought up Price yesterday, Mets bring up Fernando Martinez today when they DL’ed Ryan Church. Braves bring up…….Campillo.
Listen, the Mets brought up FMart out of necessity, not to showcase, not to do anything except play right field until Church comes back from injury. No one said, wait, it might start his clock, or what ever BS reasoning the folks around throw out. 4 years from now, Martinez will be doing one of two things, playing under an extension that will be very similar to the ones Wright and Reyes signed, or he will be with another team. Period. End of Story. Either he’s so good he will be locked up through arbitration and his first couple years of free agency, or he’s not good enough so he will be traded away. That’s how REAL teams operate.
Even the Nationals know how to operate. They drafted Zimmerman, and two months later, he’s in the majors. A year and a half later, they know he’s for real, and so he gets signed to a contract that takes him through his arbitration years and his first couple years of free agency. Done.
So either one of two things is happening here with Hansen: either the Braves front office is a joke because they know they aren’t even as smart as the Nationals, or they are holding on to Hansen in the minors because they know his stock is going to be its highest right now, and they are planning on trading him.
But know this, if they thought he could help them right now, he would have been pitching tonight. So they obviously don’t think he can.
Garrett Anderson swinging at the first dang pitch when we need baserunners. THIS IS PATHETIC!!!! Bobby cox is awful, he will never bench a player for bad decisions. This is why I can’t stand Bobby
Matt Holliday be exactly whut dis anemic Braves offense needs. De outfield be de wo’st I’ve seen in mah’ eleven years in way downtown Atlanta. Get help, dig dis: Holliday be de best.
Walking the pitcher with 2 outs is unacceptable. Th kid tenses up under pressure. It has happened in both games he has pitched? You think that will go away with more starts? I dont necessarily think so. When you get behind the pitcher 1-0 you throw fastball after fastball around the plate for strikes. You absolutely do not want to pitch to Aaron Rowand who is a better run producer than your typical leadoff hitter. Unacceptable to even get to a 3-ball count with the pitcher.
So what if he retired 11 in a row when the game was over. That doesn’t really count for much. 4-0 will be too much for the Braves to overcome all year long. Someone check and tell me how many times they have come back from being down 3 or more runs.
I think it’s time for some Garret bashing, cause dude does not give a flippin fu*! about helping us win ballgames. It can’t be any more obvious than what Joe said just then. Times like these where I miss a guy like Kotsay.
I don’t ever remember the Braves being hesitant to bring up a young player. Joey Devine, anyone? Look, Hanson’s had some things he’s needed to work out at AAA. Medlen was having a better season. I don’t think there’s anything fancy about bringing up the kid who was having the better season.
I wish we had Kotsay. He was a real pro-gave it his all every at bat and in the field. GA is an embarassment. Let’s trade Francoer straight up for Kotsay-any takers?
Mets fan in atlanta,”So either one of two things is happening here with Hansen: either the Braves front office is a joke because they know they aren’t even as smart as the Nationals, or they are holding on to Hansen in the minors because they know his stock is going to be its highest right now, and they are planning on trading him.

You just contradicted yourself. You said they were either not as smart as the nationals or they were going to trade him. Then you said they didnt bring him up because they dont believe he can help them.
Granted, Schafer is struggling. However if the Braves are going to keep a light hitting fielder, it’s a no brainer that it is Schafer. He plays a decent centerfield, plus he has a strong arm. Blanco has a weak arm, and Franceour doesnt have the speed to play center. So keeping Schafer in the 8th hole while working out his hitting woes is the “lesser of 2 evils (weak hitting)”.
Plus even while struggling with the strikeouts, Schafer still shows a willingness to draw a walk. Plus he can bunt and move over runners. And he has speed.
just think, they might have gotten shut out tonight and scored 2 runs yesterday but just think of how bad the offense would be if Mac and Anderson were still on the DL.
*the excuse list is growing shorter and shorter, the only one left now is escobar
While it wouldn’t matter who was on the mound tonight (but gotta give some props to Medlen for hanging tough after a shaky inning), with Lincecum on the mound.
But I’m not gonna say I’m surprised to see us play “to” our competition. It’s been the staple of the Braves the past 3 or so years.
While the Blue Jays were reeling a bit, they were leading the tough AL East when they arrived in Atlanta, and were swept away while having their Ace on the mound for one game. It is NOT surprising to see the Braves fly cross country and get thumped by the Giants.
I know some people want to use the cross country trip as the main culprit. I disagree. In the early 90’s, when the Braves were in the NL West and played a division heavy schedule, it didsn’t seem to cause them to lose many games.
This team just isn’t capable as currently constructed to put a big winning streak together. So while, DOB stated the other day, that they were 10-5 in their past 15 games. They are now 10-7 in their past 17.
Not that big of a deal, but this team just teases us with what it might be capable of.
But always seems to come crashing back to earth after a nice stretch. Not sure why that is, but it’s tough to accept after being the team that knew EXACTLY how to put it’s foot on the throttle, along with the neck of their opponants when they could smell victory. This team seems to be scared of those situations.
it’s only his second start. The more he pitches, I’m sure he’ll come around. Yeah, the offense does indeed blow..but, what if Medlen was the one who had the 4-0 lead?
Other than that meltdown..Medlen did pretty good..he just needs to be given a break.
And if he doesn’t cut the mustard..then on to plan B,or C or whateve plan we’re on, now…
I am asking you because I see that you are on tonight. What is the story on all this outfielder talk (I have been out of the loop for a week, with very infrequent logins)?
Are we getting close to anything, or is this a lot of speculation? It seems to me that Holliday would be another Tex, but worse. Lots of players going over for a half a year.
Not that I am opposed to that if it would truly keep us in the hunt.
Thanks in advance for helping to get me up to speed.
Roman Gal,
That’s my point–they know he’s not ready for prime time. Braves fans are drooling at the mouth to see Hanson pitching in Atlanta, but he must not be ready. My point is, its not the arb clock, super two , or any of that ridiculousness. Plain and simple, he is not ready to pitch in the majors, or he would be pitching tonight. UNLESS, they are getting ready to trade him.
Mfin,”So what if he retired 11 in a row when the game was over. That doesn’t really count for much.”
Yeah it does, it builds confidence. He didnt get to pitch out of his last jam. This time he did and he couldnt do much better than retire 11 batters in a row. Mfin you have to be the biggest moron ever with absolutely no life. This must be the only way you can vent. I feel sorry for you. You are always angry. I also see you post everyday all through the day which tells me you probably dont work and dont get out of your house much. I feel sorry for you.

I don’t ever remember the Braves being hesitant to bring up a young player. Joey Devine, anyone? Look, Hanson’s had some things he’s needed to work out at AAA. Medlen was having a better season. I don’t think there’s anything fancy about bringing up the kid who was having the better season.

Good grief MFin04
it’s only his second start.
