Lowe did spend all but 3 of his seasons in the vastly tougher AL as a reliever and has spent the past 4 seasons in a pitcher’s park while Vazquez has spent the past 4 in hitters parks and 3 of them in the AL. Just a point. ERA without context isn’t comparable. But I agree with you that it is more likely that Lowe will have the better ERA. However, I really like what Vazquez has done so far and it wouldn’t SURPRISE me if he had a better ERA than Lowe.
Why’d they take Medlen out with only 85 pitches thrown and having punched out 11 straight?
Ball 1. I bet that kid is starting to get tired.
Im going to finish this game. Im going to finish you. I dont need any help
Medlen just needs to settle down…I believe in a couple more starts he will be good…Doesn’t walk many and he is not hitting his spots…Will be solid
May 26th, 200911:52 pm
Lincecum looks kind of like a horse!
Straight up gas to you jeff. I hoped you liked it
Eric from MO
So why was Medlen allowed to pitch that last third of an inning? The only thing I can figure is so his ERA would be under 10. That one batter made the difference.
May 26th, 200911:53 pm
I think we see Medlen Sunday against the D’backs.
Jeff just had the best at bat for the Braves in this game. Good job Jeffy boy!
May 26th, 200911:54 pm
Francoer let’s keep him now. no trade. That was the greatest broken bat hit i’ve ever seen. Wow!!!
Frenchy took 6 pitches! That’s usually the number he takes to get 5 outs. Take notice, other teams.
Stop the presses. Frenchie got a hit of Lincecum. As important as a UFO sighting.
Come On, We Need a Rally, We Need To start here!

schafer easy K
Not better than Chipper’s double, Brian. Don’t go all Joe Simpson on us please. lol
Lets chip away guys!
ok Jordan, now is your time to shine.
Medlen has good stuff. I see so much potential in him. I’m comfortable with Medlen getting more starts. He had a meltdown in the 2nd, however made adjustments and retired the last 12 batters he faced.
What did I say about Franceour, at most, getting a single when he tries to get a hit to right? He just proved me right once again. Looping single to right. That sums up the capability of Franceour to hit. No power.

another runner, then a gramd salami..that would be real nice!
Hey there – I’m new to the blog but wanted to know if it’s always this negative and if I’m just wasting my time? I am a Braves fan through good or bad and it’s a shame to read some of the comments on here… Sure, our offense needs some help. We have a kid out there being embarrassed on a national stage but what if we got him some runs? And we have an all star catcher who is so important to our offense that he can’t afford to take a much needed day off – but hey, they are playing a Cy winner at his home field after a time zone change with no off day – not making excuses but it’s not an easy game situation fir this team – so just cheer them on – no need to be haters – the NL East race is very much alive
Im fine with Medlen staying on the team, but in the pen.
If we call up Hanson right now and don’t ever send him down again, he likely won’t achieve super 2 status. He’ll still be a free agent after 2015, but we save a butt load of money from not having to pay him an extra arbitration year.
May 26th, 200911:57 pm
Norton….in this spot? Hmmm…
dammit..grand salami..can’t spell..
NOT TONIGHT BRAVES!!!!
May 26th, 200911:58 pm
Well At least Linecum didn’t pull a CG on us…Looks like
Rob in Mobile
Eric from MO, I really don’t think Medlen’s numbers, particularly in his limited big league experience, are going to be that big of an issue for a team looking to acquire him. They’re looking more at his stuff, his makeup, and his ability to handle pressure. He had a setback in the second, but looked great after. I believe teams look at the potential more so than the numbers….if a prospective team thinks it sees a flaw in a player and still believes that flaw can be worked out, it won’t keep a team from trying to acquire him.
Couch Tater, perhaps he picked the wrong sport, huh?
It’s too bad for Brodie, and for Chiefs fans. Because I think with better Health, he would have been a fine NFL QB (especially in a Herm Edwards kind of run first system). But being on the field on Sundays is kinda important.
Lincecum = a great pitcher
May 26th, 200911:59 pm
Greg Norton..wow…good clutch guy..
Chop Chop = very observant.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA You struck out on my changeup. HAHAHAHAH
Frank from KS
If Lowe keeps pitching as good as he has been….he could conceivably win 20, IMO.
AND yes, that is with the Not-So-Great Offense.
All weather Fan, yeah you probably need to leave. I wasnt here on the blog in 95 but Im pretty sure Mfin was complaining because Glavine gave up two hits and Coach was complaing because we only managed to score one run.
Is this what the Fran-fans have been reduced to? Going ballistic when he gets a single?
May 27th, 200912:00 am
So, ya, legalbuzz. You’re off base in application, but your theory is correct.
RHR = you’re damn right
we coming back !!
stormy weather fan
all weather fan – welcome to the blog. but first, go jump in the lake you namby-pamby little moron.
Maybe the Braves will be able to score 5 runs just because Lincecum is out of the game…

Paul — Francoeur finally puts up a good at-bat, works the count and gets a pitch he can hit, and all you can say is “see? no power”? Against Lincecum??
Damn man, I’m pulling for the Braves to get rid of Francoeur as much as anyone else here, but that at-bat that he put up was one of his best in recent games, even if it was just a soft single.
Coach (2010 or Bust)
Snort’en Norton getting it done again. Whiff, strike three. Inning over.
May 27th, 200912:01 am
N8 – what happened with Brodie?
You know what I feel pity on you guys. Im going to take a shower and go home. I got better things to do on my time than keep stiking you out
…assuming he comes out of the game.
they shouldn’t put Randy Johnson up on the tv right now…there still might be little kids up!
Can we please drop Norton and his 100 something batting average now? Congrats Norton. You WERE a good bat off the bench for us at one point. This year, we might as well run the pitcher up there.
CUT GREG NORTON’S SORRY A$$
Coach you’re such a bowl of sunshine, you know it?
You’re the guy who cursed us with Norton. Thanks a lot, amateur.
May 27th, 200912:02 am
2morrow is a must Win, Nuff Said…I’m calling both the Mets and the Philles to win their games, since they are playing sub .500 teams…
Randy Johnson is beatable if and only if we work the counts against him…And hit like we did in the Jays series
Frank from KS

Doesnt he get more run support than anyone in baseball?
May 27th, 200912:03 am
Mr. Ugly, Jr. up at bat..
Another lovely shut out for this bunch of bums. Who would have actually thought they could have a decent road trip after a sweep?
Oh good they’re keeping him in. He looked a little tired last inning maybe we can get something going.
Damnit, Joe and Boog you guys played with my emotions think he was done…
All in all I think that was a decent outing by Medlen. He had one bad inning but when things started to go bad in the second he recovered and pitched very well after. It would have been easy for him to have a complete meltdown like he did in his first outing. Assuming that Glavine is not ready to make his next start, I would like to see Medlen get another start.
A single and the Fran-fans go ballistic. I’ve never seen bigger apologists than Frenchy’s hardcore fans.
RHR he lost his job when the got Matt Cassell.

Really interested to see how Kawakami responds tomorrow on 4 days rest after pitching 8 innings. He looked great on 5 days rest last start. If his control is good he should be sharp.
May 27th, 200912:05 am
IM BACK. Sorry to burst yall bubble hahaha
Jeff Bennett looks like Popeye…
Wieters is being called up by the Orioles on Friday.
PWHjort, I agree with you. Y’all know how much I was down on the Vazquez trade at the time, and thought we could have spent the money better. But the guy has done a MORE THAN fine job, and for now I’m drinking the kool-aid.
As for Lowe being a reliver? Good point. But on the flip side, it’s often tough for a reliever to have a lower ERA because one bad outing skews it a whole bunch.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if Vazquez has a lower ERA. He’s shown through basically 2 months of baseball that he’s come to pitch this year. But I expect Lowe to have the lower ERA at year’s end.
But let me put it this way. I expect Lowe to have an ERA around 3.50 at year’s end. If Vazquez happens to be in that neigborhood (either higher or lower – but close), we will have had a very nice trio of starters in our rotation, because I don’t see JJJ falling apart unless those innings last year, and the ones he’s piling up this year, come back to haunt his young arm.
I was just giving you crap before, because you stated it as though it was a given that Vazquez would have better numbers than Lowe when the season is through. It’s certainly possible, but not a given.
Why do the Giants average 34,000 fans a game, but not the Braves?
May 27th, 200912:06 am
Where are all the Bennett haters?
Does anyone know why Gorkys Hernandez in not stealing alot this season
Why didnt we use Martin Prado off the bench or Derek Lowe instead of Norton?
Man Bennett Has looked good! Lets get his A..s In gear for the later months
Lincecum looks like the kid from Dazed & Confused.
Why didnt we pinch hit with Martin Prado or Derek Lowe, Greg Norton sucks.
May 27th, 200912:07 am
N8 why did you just bold your last post?
I wonder how you say ugly in Japanese?
I’m sure that’s what KK is going to be thinking tomorrow when he faces Senor Feo.
Bennett has definitely performed considerably better the last half dozen or so appearances. He just seems like a guy that has to start out his own inning.
Urban Braves Fan
I kin’t recon’ de Braves are goin’ t’lose yet again t’de Giants. So much fo’ de momentum comin’ off dat Blue Jays sweep.
Lowe is the best pitcher we have. There is no doubt in my mind about that.
Its cuz they come to me pitch. hahaha
May 27th, 200912:08 am
Well, the Indians came from what …..10 down yesterday to win?
Wee can do eeet!
May 27th, 2009
Why do the Giants average 34,000 fans a game, but not the Braves?
Because fans in Atlanta suck…
Chop Chop = fearless blogger by day, Captain Obvious by night.
We should be taking pitches dang it-we need baserunners!!!!!
Man this kelly Johnson fellow is the same as francoeur. Swing at the first pitch and make my job easier
Did KJ just pop out on the first pitch of the inning?
KJ, Come On….First Pitch again?
I better Not See him leading off tomorrow night or I will be in a P’d off mood even before the game starts
May 27th, 200912:09 am
I just can not understand why KJ would swing at the first pitch in the 8th inning from a guy that was delivering his 109th pitch. I just can not wrap my mind around it.
That led off at bat was horrible-bench him for that.
Wouldnt it be smart of KJ to take a pitch work the count or something, the dude has thrown 109 pitches before this inning. Stupid Baseball.
Medlen probably gets another start on Sunday unless they decide to bring up Morton for a spot start or trot out Campillo (doubtful since he just got off DL). After that, I suspect that the Braves are hoping to trot Glavline out during the next homestand when they need a 5th starter (Saturday against the Brewers perhaps?) This is assuming he survives his next rehab assigment.
Bout time to call Kris Medlen a flop. Kid has no balls. Tenses up when he is under pressure. Can’t pitch at the big league level. Walking the pitcher to load the bases with 2-outs is absolutely unacceptable.
Good AB by Kotchman…draws a walk.
May 27th, 200912:10 am
KJ should be benched for that crap. Slumping is one thing but that was not a team attitude.
God-frickin’-Damn whut be wid dis team and da damn fust pitch outs? Ban swin’in’ at da damn fust pitch always fo’ everyone.
Wait a minute, Eric from MO. Shouldn’t you qualify that some…you know, like “Because some fans in Atlanta suck (not including Roman Gal)…”
