abwright: Whatever happened to diving catches in the outfield?

That went out the door when Andruw left. You can’t ask these wussies to lay out for a ball. They might get hurt.

Javy’s day ended when he tried to get the out at second on a sac bunt in the 5th. He should have thrown to 1st. You can’t blame Bobby for Javy’s ill-advised throw.

MFin04 What the heck is this ump looking at today!?!

I’ve been wondering that…pretty much through this whole game.

How do you not call interference on Uribe for hopping in front of McCann? I’ll give Molina the benefit of the doubt on his (very hard…but I’m gonna do it) and say he fell…but Uribe hopped…he so hopped…

And that first play at the plate? He was out…

bravos2249

Seriously Javy made a bad throw but other players are suppose to tell him what base to throw to, if they said 1st then it is his fault if they said throw it to 2nd…then.

McFann,

McCann very easily could have decided to “trip” over Uribe on that play. He didn’t do it. You can’t rely on the ump to give you an interference call. You have to make him give it to you.

Vazquez had a bad outing but everyone is due one everyone now and then. Schafer is out there because this is San Francisco and there is no defensive replacement for him. His struggles wouldn’t seem as bad if we had a better offense but we don’t. Not having two of your best hitters hurt so it was nice to get that sweep against the Blue Jays but I knew it would be hard to keep it up without those two guys. Tough assignment tomorrow with Lincecum. Hopefully we can get something off of him.

abwright

I hate to blame a loss (if this does in fact become a loss) on the umpire.

After the first interference non-call, which led to a run, B. Mac had some words for the home plate umpire. Perhaps that interference could have been missed, but the second one was so blatant that it wasn’t funny.

Now, we have a close call at the plate (which doesn’t get called…ultimately leads to two runs). Then, a ball 4 to KJ which ultimately leads to an out.

On occasion a bad call affects a game (non-call at third to Beltran). But, over 162, those rarely affect a campaign. This home plate ump, however, seems to be going out of his way to make his point to the Braves (don’t question my calls).

I suspect that BMac is wisely “shutting up” so that, hopefully, this does not carry over into the rest of the series.

Yep….Braves have won 12 of 17 and also scored 4 runs or more in 12 of 17. They’re 11-1 when doing so and 1-4 when they score less than 4 with the lone win Friday against Halladay.

Well I’m waiting for somebody besides DOB to point out that our all-star catcher was at fault for both of those plays at home. The announcers were begging us to vote for Brian for the ASG. Well I refuse to vote for a catcher that refuses to make even the slightest effort to block the plate. Shoot, he wouldn’t really have had to block it, even if he’d just get his damn leg across the line it would have made the difference. Maybe the ump missed the first call, but if Brian had been in better position there wouldn’t have been any doubt about the tag. Sure he may get run over and he may get hurt and we could lose a key bat, but that’s the reason you get a tough guy as a catcher and Brian’s not tough.

Even earlier in the game Brian should have been calling for Vazquez to make the throw to first on that bunt – the replay didn’t show McCann saying anything and the announcers didn’t either. And while I’m at it, they make a big deal about his blocking a ball in the left-hand batters box – hell, he was already out there calling for the breaking pitch in the dirt, he didn’t even have to move to his right. I guess you might say that I’m not a big fan of McCann’s defensive abilities. Give him another position to play cause he’s going to be a liability behind the plate and we need his bat.

Still doesn’t explain why Frenchy is out there. If a teams going to have a CF hitting around and below .250 you can’t have that same type of hitter in RF, with let’s be honest sub-par defense. If you can’t dive or jump against the wall to catch a ball in the big leagues that’s just sad.
