My Bad. I might not have worded that correctly, I meant the Braves moving into first place in the division while they were riding their current hot streak and the Mets and Phils were not exactly playing their best. I wasn’t talking about a trade move. Although I do agree that if they do it will be sooner than the deadline.
What I was referring to was the emotional and psychological lift that players feel, especially younger ones, when their team takes over first place. Adding a little more confidence and so called “swagger” to their play. I think it is important that the Braves get into first place now, even if it is only temporary, while the division is wide open. It would add a little vigor to the team and the fans. In a way sort of rekindle the winning attitude of the Braves franchise. First place could have that affect and help the team in the second half knowing that they were already there and are close in contention.
Chasing the lead from second or third place all year adds an extra level of grind to the season. It’s good to be out front a little too.
DOB — I believe that Capt Caveman was asking about the importance of the Braves making a move in the standings (ie, into 1st place in the NL East), rather than a player personnel move.
I was watching, and listening to that at bat, and Sutton called the remainder of the pitch sequence perfectly when the count was 0-2 (although he did not foresee the one that got away).

I saw Delmon Young when he was playing for the … (wait for it) … AA Montgomery Biscuits, a few years ago. No doubt about his talent, some questions about his attitude — and, more importantly, his power. He doesn’t walk or hit the ball over the fence. Two MAJOR drawbacks.
have a day brian mcann….. jesus you would think they would practice throws to second base but i guess not. and one would also think they would practice balls in the dirt but i guess not….
Grilling in the back yard this afternoon, throwing b.p. to my one year old nephew who doesn’t realize that he should swing when I throw it to him. He waits for the ball to stop rolling, then races over to it, and starts getting all caveman on the ball, beating the ever living hell out of it with his bat while the ball lays helplessly on the ground, and while he yells “Bat! Ball!” over and over. Crazy lil’ bugger. Also listening to the broadcast, and have gotta say, this Powell guy is outstanding. Don and Jim seem to have good chemistry already. Maybe the Braves somehow swing two deals…one for DeRosa and one for Dye. I still can’t understand why the Cubs dealt DeRosa to begin with. I know why the cut ties with Kerry Wood….but DeRosa….it just didn’t make sense to me.
