You’re lucky ~_~
It’s gonna be a wet one here today. I just hope I am able to watch the game. When it storms here, power lines get a little sensitive
Forgot to mention, both teams wearing red caps today (as are all major league teams, I think).
Braves has a blue and white-trimmed “A” with little white stars on the letter.
Again, the LINEUP
1. KJ, 2B
2. Prado, 3B
3. Diaz, LF
4. McCann, C
5. Francoeur, RF
6. Kotchman, 1B
7. D. Hernandez, SS
8. Schafer, CF
9. Vazquez, RJ
May 25th, 20093:25 pm
Thanks DOB for sharing that story.
May 25th, 20093:26 pm
DOB-GREAT Story. Thanks!
Rob from SC
May 25th, 20093:28 pm
Hopefully Vazquez avoids that troubling inning.
May 25th, 20093:31 pm
I like the idea of all the Red Caps for today.
I heard from someone that they are likely to do it for 4th of July. Is it true?
May 25th, 20093:34 pm
Let’s hope the Braves can keep this going. Take care of Sanchez and the Giants today!
With the Mets in a little tailspin personnel wise and the Phillies only 1.5 games up, do you think it is important for the Braves to make a move into first in the next week?? Or do you think that just staying close thru the halfway point will be good enough??
Personally I think they need to get into first place as soon as possible to ignite some of the younger guys on the team and maybe get a few more bats going. Something about being in first place always adds a little bit of an edge to a teams play.
Could be a good spark, even if they didn’t stay in first very long. What do you think??
“CY” Jones (2:46 pm): “Wren didn’t address the outfield production problem in the offseason. He knew he didn’t. “
I don’t see how you can hold this position while at the same time acknowledging that Wren decided to go with Schafer and that he did acquire GAnderson, and according to you:
“GA is actually playing below expectations and so is Shafer.”
If these two were playing up to expectations, there would be no OF production problem.
So Wren did do something to address the outfield production problem — it just hasn’t worked out as reasonably expected (yet).

From the Last Blog…, But Does Anyone Like The KotchMeister Hitting 3rd instead of sixth, since he’s on a Roll…? Matty-D has been Good lately too, But I like The Kotchmeister’s tendency to work the counts better….
Cant mention it enough today and like DOB said Thanks to our veterans and God Bless America ! Being a native New Yorker I saw America rally on Sept 12th and we are still and always will be behind our military folks so if you see one thank them. Thanks DOB for that nice story
May 25th, 20093:41 pm
DOB:“the Braves play three at Phoenix”
You had me panicked DOB. I’m headed out to AZ for this series and I was planning for a four game set. Then you start typing and a game is dropped… I checked though, the schedule on both the D-Backs and Atlanta page calls for a four game series.
Matt Harrison getting lit up today 5IP 7ER. His season ERA now up to 5.43 ( Thats Jo Jo Territory folks)
May 25th, 20093:42 pm
Good story David! Hat off to ‘em all.
Diggin’ the headline too ….Surging…
May 25th, 20093:44 pm
Wow, SF has the worst offense in MLB but their lineup looks much better than ours today. Let’s hope Javy brings his A game.
Steve from OH
Dave, have you heard any whispers that the Braves are in the market for a bat, or are the stories on CBS a bit speculatory?
What channel is the game on today? Gotta get in as much of it as I can before all the family comes over.
May 25th, 20093:45 pm
That’s right, Shane. The Tex trade was a success. Eat it, haters.
I really enjoyed your story about the Vietnam vet as well, Dave.
May 25th, 20093:49 pm
I do not understand the injury to Chipper ! Yesterday when he got his hit, He begged Bobby Cox not to take him out ! He motion to Cox that he was fine ! Watch the replay, He told Cox he was fine ! So why did he say he was fine running the bases yesterday ?!!!
We should all thank our service men and women today as well as thank them on some idol Tuesday in March. I think it means more to them when its not a holiday. Just a thought………
May 25th, 20093:51 pm
Anyone else see this? Milton Bradley seems to think there is a conspiracy against him.
Those hats are fugly
May 25th, 20093:52 pm
Hey Random, aren’t you forgetting about a certain huge, gaping hole in that other outfield spot not occupied by Anderson, Diaz or Schafer?
May 25th, 20093:54 pm
Great blog, DOG.
I thank our service men and women every day and keep them in my thoughts and prayers. I’ll admit, doing that is not my thing, but I respect them for doing what they do, so I can do what I do.
May 25th, 20093:55 pm
Thanks for that catch TennPaul. Fixed now. Yes, four in ‘Zona.
May 25th, 20093:56 pm
Matt Harrison for ya….5IP 11 H 7 ER 1 BB 2 SO
any news on trying to get a right hand bat. DB
Eric from MO
May 25th, 20093:57 pm
“GA is actually playing below expectations and so is Shafer.”
Yeah but if Anderson and Schafer were playing up to expectations Francouer wouldnt matter that much. You could afford to have one bad outfielder but not 3.
First time all year I have seen both the home and away feeds available for the braves on mlb extra innings. (indemand/cable version) I hardly ever get to hear Joe and Chip stink it up as often as people on here suggest. 95% of the time they show the opposing teams feed not sure why?
May 25th, 20093:58 pm
NO matter how Mauer hits, I’ll still say Mac is the best ML catcher. Mac doesn’t get to DH, doesn’t play indoors, and plays half his games in the Southern heat/humidity.
I am gonna watch Braves feed today.
May 25th, 20093:59 pm
McCann should unquestionably start the All Star Game this year.
Might be cause the Holiday, they probably want people to be able to view which one they want?…IDK
My brother returned home from Iraq yesterday. Best Memorial Day Weekend ever!
And I agree, Bravos2249. Those hats are NOT cute.
May 25th, 20094:00 pm
so dob have you heard anything about the rumors that sourround jeff failcoure
May 25th, 20094:02 pm
Congrats on your brother coming home. And the hats like those last year that where dark blue where ok, but red? no
You think if Schafer can hit it into one of the caroms of the field that he could get a triple or inside the parker?
May 25th, 20094:03 pm
Kris Benson gave up three runs in the sixth for the Rangers, so it looks like Matt Harrison isn’t the only one getting smoked by the Yanks today.
Steve From OH,
Your point about Gorkys needing polishing was mine exactly.
May 25th, 20094:04 pm
Now the Rangers look ok in those red hats, it matches their “red” in their other red dominant unis.
The Nats may look ok with the hats too, but everyone else, especially the Giants will look tacky. Why can’t they just put the stars and stripes in the emblem on the hat and let the hat stay the color it is, it would look better.
May 25th, 20094:05 pm
Mark (3:52 pm): “aren’t you forgetting about a certain huge, gaping hole in that other outfield spot not occupied by Anderson, Diaz or Schafer?”
Number one, Francoeur has improved from last year, which is all most of us ever asked for.
Number two, “two out of three ain’t bad” — if Schafer and GAnderson had been playing as reasonably expected (and had remained uninjured), Braves would be in 1st in the NL East. That would be good enough for most here.
Capt Caveman: No, it’s not important they make a move by next week. First of all, how many moves do you really think will be made by next week? It’s way too early for most teams to start moving impact-type players, and the Braves need to get a real bat, not just some marginal player a team is ready to dump.
To get someone like that, it’s most likely going to be deeper into the season. There are exceptions, sure, but Braves aren’t only team looking for a bat. Sabean, the Giants’ GM, is openly saying he is pursuing one.
Yes, Braves are, by the way, for those wondering if rumors are true. They’re looking, but they have been for most of the season. Just gotta be patient and hope they can find a trade partner that won’t demand a king’s ransom.
I think if they do make a move, it’ll come well before trade deadline this time around.
Mauer is probably the better player just because of his defense. But if he continues hitting like he did in May he’ll win the MVP.
Yeah since Harrison’s 2 CG he’s gone a combined 10 innings giving up 12 runs in 2 starts.
May 25th, 20094:06 pm
As I said earlier…Man If We can get one of Our Other Regulars to carry the Team While Chipper is out, Like A. Jones did in 2005 in his Career Year…This Team can make a Push…
I think The Kotchmeister Goes Yard Today With the Short Dimensions from the Right field line to Right Center (To Hit anything Out of the Park left of Right Center is only Restricted to Barroid Bonds Only, They Need to name it the Barroid Alley, Nook ETC, because I have seen few people other than him tho it one in the area OF Ctr/Rt,Ctr where the angle gets drastic)…
May 25th, 20094:08 pm
Iwamura out for the year they need a 2nd baseman??????????? pick up the phone wren………………
sso guys who would be a better pickup dye or holliday
I agree That Dud Selig and The MLB Marketing team has taken it too far with the red hats…
I agree on that, but I’m just saying catchers like Mac, GULP Martin and even frickin Soto, don’t have the luxury of DH’ing every couple of days. Joe has played in 13 straight games but only 9 behind the plate. I think having to go out there and squat every inning and then being able to hit is more impressive then sitting on the bench and hitting.
May 25th, 20094:10 pm
Well, there’s an abrupt alarm clock for the Braves, who appear to be dragging a bit after flying out last night, eh?
Diaz as the 3rd hitter? I mean I know he can rake lefties BUT you gotta have a more patient batter in that spot.
May 25th, 20094:11 pm
Whose the tard that made this a day game. I mean the dang White Sox who are in a sense a little closer to Cali than the Braves don’t play until like 10:00.
Good God, DOB, thanks for the story on your seatmate…chilling. No lie, I’m tearing up as I think about you, him and look across the room at the flag from dad’s (WW II) coffin. God bless you, the guy, my father, and everybody else who has served on our behalf and respects and appreciates those who have.
May 25th, 20094:12 pm
Definitely looks like a beautiful day. Wish I was there
Sanchez might give the Braves hitters a LONG day…dude looked nasty in that 1st inning. Javy is gonna have to be on his game and stay away from that famous “bad inning”.
Interesting stat for Javy. Undefeated on the road and in day games.
Nice catch Diaz!
May 25th, 20094:13 pm
Uggghhh Oh, This offense Looks Flat, Maybe it was Jet-Lag or something the offense suffered in the top of the 1st….! I’m still calling it that that the Braves Only show up to play against the Good Teams Of MLB…
Nice play Matt Diaz in left — GA doesn’t catch that ball.
Adam Dunn could have caught that just by sticking his glove up (with his eyes closed).
May 25th, 20094:14 pm
Heckuva catch Matty!
Man I thought Dud Selig Was gonna Address the weak bat issue in Mlb? Edgar didn’t even get jammed and he broke his bat…
Sun is shining and the scenery from this perfectly located pressbox perch (low, practically right in the stands), the scenery is remarkable…. And the water and boats beyond the outfield don’t look bad, either.
May 25th, 20094:15 pm
A nice 1 2 3 inning.
Yeah There we Go Javy, 7 pitches, Nice!
You just had to go there, didn’t you?
May 25th, 20094:16 pm
Is a breeze blowing or anything? Or is the temp just good and humidity down?
May 25th, 20094:17 pm
Thanks for the new Blog, Chief! Great numbers on my mann!
BravesFanChris24 @ 3:59–
Yep;that’s what we all said last year, too…
the only park that even comes close in terms of setting, at least in my opinion, is San Diego. AT&T is just beautiful and the location cannot be topped
Oh man, imagine jet lag on top of bad plate discipline for Frenchy. Woah, it might get REAL ugly up there for Jeff today…we’ll see.
Ok DOB…keep rubbin it in
Would’ve been a heckuva play there.
offense needs to get goin
Glad your scenery is nice, DOB. Wish I could say the same for the non-HD Sportsouth telecast. I can hardly tell whats what without HD.
May 25th, 20094:18 pm
never been to San Francisco I take it? Humidity is pretty much non-existant and the wind is always blowing
May 25th, 20094:19 pm
I only had to work 4 hours (half a day) today, so I am able to watch the game live
Mac flashin’ the wheels again!
May 25th, 20094:20 pm
To be honest, I haven’t even been anywhere much less west coast ~_~
I’ve been to Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee and Florida (live in FL).
May 25th, 20094:21 pm
Just some interesting stats on some of the guys that have been in trade rumors that the braves might go after, all from over the past 3 years.
Matt Holliday: in 29 AB’s at Turner Field, Holliday has .379 AVG, 2 HR’s, 4 doubles, 2 SB’s and 8 K’s. He also has a .439 AVG with 9 HR’s, 21 runs and RBI’s, 2 SB and 15 K’s against the Marlins over 82 AB’s, a .305 AVG with 3 HR’s, 9 RBI’s, 2 SB’s and 16 K’s against the Mets in 82 AB’s, a .250 AVG with 7 HR’s 19 RBI’s and 9 K’s in 68 AB’s against the Phillies, and a .364 AVG with 6 HR’s, 27 RBI’s, 6 SB’s and 19 K’s against the Nats. He also hits .302 with RISP and .378 with bases loaded
Mark Derosa: Has a .361 AVG in 32 AB’s at Turner Field. A .158 AVG against FLA in 38 AB’s, a .286 AVG in 35 AB’s against the Mets, A .237 AVG in 38 AB’s against the Phillies, and a .326 AVG in 43 AB’s against the Nats. He’s a .305 hitter with RISP and .440 with bases loaded. His AVG is also 20 points lower post allstar, when we might see him come in a trade.
Magglio Ordonez: 4-12 with a SB at Turner Field. He’s 2-6 with a double against the Mets, 5-11 with 4 RBI’s against the Phillies, and 7-10 against the Nats. Has not played the Marlins in the last 3 years. .352 with RISP and .306 with bases loaded. Traditionally hits in the #4 spot.
Out of these 3 I really think we should try hard to get Holliday. Yes, it’s a 2-3 month rental, but he could really keep the offense going as the season progresses.
Used to live in GA for a time period, which is when I became a Braves fan.
cabravesfan – I’m just glad that my remark was caught by someone who understands the difference between cogent commentary and being a smart aleck.
we need a win today. good chance the phils lose tonight against marlins with moyer on the hill. had 5 bad outings in a row.
May 25th, 20094:23 pm
What do you think about the article bowman wrote about trading Jeff?
OMG That Wendy’s Commercial is AWFUL, Sounds Like that Pop-Tart, T-Pain/Gay-Kon Garbage that is overplayed on the radio nowadays
May 25th, 20094:25 pm
It doesn’t get better than the war games scene in “The Dirty Dozen” (unless the Braves could score a few runs).
Let’s just say San Francisco is one of the few places that, when the tempature hits 60 at the end of May, it’s called “warm” The first time i went to AT&T for a game, in july, it was about 55 degrees and the flags on top of the right field wall, well, the one on the right was blowing straight to the right. The one on the left was blowing straight left. And the one in the middle was dead. They are perhaps 10 feet from eachother. Swirling doesn’t even begin to describe the wind there, although it seems fairly calm today…
Geez, is red bul on the banned substance list? lol
May 25th, 20094:26 pm
Well before this game The Braves are 13-7 against teams that are over .500 this year…
While They are 11-12 against teams that have played less than .500 baseball this year, letting their guard down against the Jubroni teams
Proof that this team comes correct when the play the good teams of the league, and W emight drop 2 of three of three to the giants
I’m sure someone out there thought you were serious
May 25th, 20094:28 pm
Does it look to anyone else that Vazquez’s stuff looks better than normal? Knock on wood, but it just looks like he is peppering the bottem of the zone at the corners. He looks good, hopefully we can give him some runs to work with.
So far so good for Javy.
Ok stupid girl question…what is the umpire looking for when he is looking over the ball after it hit the ground and Mac gives it to him to throw to the dugout? Is he just looking for where it hit?
May 25th, 20094:29 pm
I’d love that weather daily. I’m in Pensacola, FL and it changes constantly.
What we had there was a failure to communicate. And some bad sun. But mostly a failure to communicate.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
