Oh yeah. First homer at Turner Field this year for him, too! As a matter of fact, it’s his first HR outside of Filly…and first one that wasn’t a two-runner.
May 24th, 20092:03 pm
Hey New Guy! I don’t care if you’re filling in for O’Brien. New guys sit in the back row. Now bring me some nachos!!
Come on Jeff, increase that trade value, errrr… I mean get a hit.
As he strikes out (no surprise since he was in his favorite count: 1-2).
How many times has Joe been asked about interleague play? Is it three? Oh, the joys of Joe working with three different play-by-play guys in the last three days!
(Actually, I think Boog may have already asked Joe about it. You know, between Facebook mentions.)
May 24th, 20092:05 pm
Now that I think about it, am I the only one who realizes that Chip and Boog have a hard time remembering what they’ve talked with Joe about?
Braves Paisan -
Pretty simple really Paisan, it’s all about the $$$$$$$$$.

Shafer looking lost at the plate
Coach (2010 or Bust)
In response to Braveheart’s post at 12:30, You’re wrong my friend.
The Braves don’t have a bunch number five starters in Tom Glavine and the kids. Neither Tommy Hanson or Charlie Morton are projectable as such. Hanson is a future ace, Morton is a solid three or four starter.
Everybody and his kid sister can agree that our Braves need offense, not more pitching. If Frank Wren pulls the trigger in trade, it will be our pitching for offense.
May 24th, 20092:07 pm
It is still just hard for me to fathom the number of swing-and-miss’s that come from Mr. Schafer. Man they have got to do something with him. Gotta get that kid going.
Bout the only time I’ll cheer for Yankees here. Good double Damon!
May 24th, 20092:08 pm
Yanks get a run back….2-1 now in the 3rd.
Come on Tex!
I can’t believe that the team homerun leader on May 24th in at five.
I also can’t believe it’ Kelly Johnson with all the sitting he was doing, especially against lefties of whom he has hit 3 homeruns in 36 at-bat againt.

May 24th, 20092:09 pm
OK, now the Yanks started their offense.
May 24th, 20092:10 pm
I wonder if DOB or Ms Rodgers can do a story as to whether or not Anderson’s level of effort on defense is an issue on the team.
May 24th, 20092:11 pm
Good play Kotchman though
May 24th, 20092:12 pm
Kelly flashing the leather!!!!
May 24th, 20092:13 pm
“Ok…..Ow” That’s some hard hitting journalism right there.
TnBrian(taking DOB's spot today)
May 24th, 20092:14 pm
Can’t believe there is actually sun that arrives in Atlanta at least once a year.
"Chef" Tim Dix
May 24th, 20092:15 pm
Hi yall are, what did I miss….
May 24th, 20092:16 pm
Overbay with the steal.
May 24th, 20092:17 pm
wow KJ just got robbed of a double there…he’s swinging very well right now
Robbed KJ of a double.
May 24th, 20092:18 pm
Chipper is rubbing off on Escobar now. It seems when Chipper finds some way to sit out Escobar does too. I would guess that Elvis Andrus would have loved to stay in Atlanta and play shortstop like he is doing so good in Texas. The former braves that they gave to Texas has the team playing excellent baseball. If they win the world series the braves ought to have a share in the revenue since several giveaway braves helped them win. Poor Chipper. It is a shame he does not qualify for medicare.
Seriously, the big music buff that I am and even I’m not into Kelly’s intro music…Outfield with “Your Love” from 1985? They say I have bad taste in music??
May 24th, 20092:20 pm
Ha Loaf…Loves Some Old Keith Sweat and R. Kelly, Ha! I would’ve guessed that Loaf loves the Chillax music
May 24th, 20092:21 pm
Does anyone know how many home runs the entire braves team has? How does that rate with other teams. I know the outfield doesn’t have hardly any. Just curious?
May 24th, 20092:23 pm
Speaking of bad Music intros. That Garbage They Play For When K-Fer Comes up Hurts My ears…
May 24th, 20092:24 pm
Coach, Hanson, Glavine, Morton, Medlin, Reyes are all fifth starters right now. That’s the point that was being made within the context of the conversation being conducted about THIS YEAR’S TEAM. Please try to follow along……
May 24th, 20092:26 pm
Braveheart, nobody in their right mind is buying your stupidity. NOBODY.
Damn, If Only we had a player with that type of speed!
May 24th, 20092:28 pm
I’m feeling good today. KJ is about to go on a tear. I can see it. What is with that guy? He got to be the streakiest hitter I’ve ever seen. I also was able to correctly guess the music on the phone segment, and I have a good idea on the Aflac trivia question. Plus the Braves lead early. Anyone know what the record is when they score first?
May 24th, 20092:29 pm
tomahawk I’d rather have some more power hitters
May 24th, 20092:30 pm
Really…just ’cause the guy’s on second doesn’t mean you cann ignore him. Grrr…having that CS% in the 30’s was EXTREMELY fun…29% now. And that guy got a couple of BIG LEADS. No chance to throw him out.
I’m buying it, Coach.
Think about it. The Braves have Lowe, Jurrjens, Vazquez and Kawakami as the top four starters. The fifth spot is the only one that is open. Therefore, all of those guys are fighting for the fifth spot in the rotation. Otherwise, they are relegated to bullpen duty in the bigs or Gwinnett.
I’m going to buy your stupidity, bottle it up, and sell it to people to make them stupider.
Explain the stupidity Coach. This’ll be fun
May 24th, 20092:31 pm
McCann is the new Mike Piazza. Great hitter, below average thrower.
May 24th, 20092:33 pm
both of Mac’s throws were pretty much spot on…it’s really hard to throw out runners when they are half was to 2nd (or 3rd) before you even get the ball, and JJ is terrible at holding runners on- I’d venture to say both stolen bases were on JJ, not Mac
Our 2009 Braves have two big needs, in this order:
Big bat , preferably right handed.
Lead off type hitter who can run, get on base, play defense.
The pitching is just fine thank you very much. In fact, it’s playoff caliber just as it is.
May 24th, 20092:34 pm
Braveheart explained the stupidity at 12:31 p.m.
May 24th, 20092:36 pm
That run wasn’t Mccain fought for that run ! it was jj !!!
Run Heap Run!…Man This Has to be the slowest team I’ve seen in years
Dammnittt!!! Francoeur WTF
How could they hold the speed demon?
May 24th, 20092:37 pm
Haha! Beat the shift again!
Those were accurate throws. The guy got a huge lead on JJ.
I’m with you all the way…and that’s not just ’cause I’m totally Mac-bias.
Martin!!! D**m it French
This Spot in the Game is Huge…!!!
Come On Diory he is due
May 24th, 20092:38 pm
Ok, it’s time for something to give with Francoeur. This first pitch nonsense needs to stop. He just single-handedly cost us that rally, again.
Dang…..Frenchy back to his old ways that AB.
Oh, and BMac AVG is .299 now!! Another hit and it’ll be .307!!
May 24th, 20092:39 pm
Francoeur BOOOOOOO! The Dude is a singles hitter who can come though when it matters, other than a sac fly once in a blue Moon
That was a big missed Oppurtunity, and might mean the difference in the game!
Francour always finds a way to fuc something up. WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG TO GET RID OF THIS CLOWN. NOBODY CARES ABOUT A BASES EMPTY DOUBLE, HOW ABOUT DRIVING IN A RUN MORON. OR MAYBE TAKING A PITCH WHEN YOU HAVE TO SCRAPE THE FIRST ONE OFF THE GROUND. DAMN I HATE WATHCING HIM PLAY!!
That was some ‘08 Francoeuresk’ in that at bat…trying to pull a slider on the outside part of the plate. FIRST pitch nonetheless.
Hope we don’t see much more of that Jeffrey.
Little leaguers are taught not to swing at benders on the first pitch idk maybe jeff was so good he skipped that. I’m a defender of jeff but there was NO excuse for that crap.
May 24th, 20092:40 pm
I meant to say is that Frenchy can’t come through when it matters
May 24th, 20092:41 pm
Oh, and continuing from my last post and forgot to end it with… Ouch!
HE FUCIN SUCKS. TRADE THE BUM.
May 24th, 20092:42 pm
Francouer needs to go f*** somewhere else. Moth** fu****
May 24th, 20092:43 pm
A leopard doesn’t change his spots and Frenchy doesn’t change his swing. Back to his old ways on that one.
Joe’s right about Bobby Dews as an author. If you haven’t read it, check out his collection of short stories “Legends, Demons and Dreams”. Baseball stories and some good Southern Horror and ghost stories. Great stuff-and he just asked me to paint the cover for his novel.
May 24th, 20092:44 pm
Yeah….cause we all know Frenchy hasn’t driven in any runs this year. Idiot.
Apparently you did not know that Frenchy coleads the team with 21 RBI after yesterday’s game.
May 24th, 20092:45 pm
Anyone wish this Frenchy ass goes on the DL
We arguably need someone like Cain more than we need a big bat. Is whatever big bat we might add really gonna make enough of a difference that he takes a team scoring 4.5 runs a game to 5 runs a game?
Frank Wren, Chipper Jones, David O’Brien, and every single professional baseball analyst alive is laughing.
Our pitching is playoff caliber.
Our offense is NOT.
Stupidity is stupidity and defending it is the definition of insanity.
Two On, 1 out, against the meat of the Jays lineup, Not Good
May 24th, 20092:46 pm
Toronto is starting to get more and more guys on base….not liking this trend.
MAN I SEE EVERY OTHER PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL TEAM MAKE PLAYS BEHIND SECOND BASE EXCEPT FOR THE BRAVES. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM, IT WAS A RIGHT HANDED BATTER. KELLY JOHNSON IS ALREADY DAMN NEAR STANDING ON THE BAG AND HE STILL CANT GET THERE. JESUS, CAN WE GET AN ATHELETE SOMEWHERE ON THE TEAM OTHER THAN THE MOUND.
This Week's AJC Braves Headlines
May 24th, 20092:48 pm
Francoeur has two-hit game!
Francoeur catches fly ball for out!
Francoeur makes contact!
Francoeur on one-game hot streak!
Braves win again, Francoeur
Francoeur hits sacrifice fly!
Francoeur gets uniform dirty!
Stop those caps!
May 24th, 20092:49 pm
Good Play By KJ, There was a lot of Traffic at the Bag!
DC BRAVE–ANYONE WHO DEFENDS FRANCOUR IS A MORON. I’LL LEAVE IT AT THAT. OUR SHORTSHOP HAS 21 RBI’S ALSO, SO WHATS YOUR POINT. HE STILL FUCIN SUCKS. HE WOULD HAVE 35 RBI’S IF HE WASNT SUCH A TERRIBLE HITTER.
I forgot to mention this earlier, probably because I was HAPPY, at the time, with the way Jeff had swung the bat the last couple of days. After that nerve wrenching, ONE pitch AB, when all he needed was a fly ball to the OF, or a little ground ball to the RIGHT SIDE, I’ll bring it up.
In the 2002 draft, the Braves selected Frenchy with their first pitck, the 23rd overall selection. The two picks DIRECTLY after, just happened to be Joe Blanton (24th) and MATT CAIN (25th), to the A’s, and Giants, respectively!
May 24th, 20092:50 pm
JJ is laboring a bit today! Not his best stuff, but still only 1 run given up so far.
Way to get through it, Jair!
May 24th, 20092:51 pm
yeah Kotchy !!! You rock !!!
Yea, Good Good Clutch Pitching by Double J…!
Now Lets get some Runs…!
Sweeeeet!!! good job JJ…way to pitch around the leadoff single!!!
May 24th, 20092:52 pm
WAY TO HOLD EM JJ. LORD KNOWS THESE TWO RUNS ALL YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH, THATS YOUR LIMIT FROM THE TEAM I GUESS.
He’s capping because he’s shouting mad !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, but I don’t think I’ll take ANY comment made by someone known as BRAVES HATER seriously. You’re a freaking idiot. And I’m not even a Frenchy supporter.
May 24th, 20092:53 pm
Stop your caps first, MORON!
PWHjort: Here is the abstract to the batting average article in TAS. I misspoke a bit — .334 is the optimal average for a player (not .331), and also on some technical stuff (the prior distribution is multivariate; not the data, stuff like that.) Also, it was two years ago — seems like yesterday. Anyway … I have downloaded it, so if you want, send your email and I can send it as a .pdf file.
I’d really like to see Jordan do that a little more
May 24th, 20092:54 pm
Blog drowning in massive overuse of capitalization.
May 24th, 20092:55 pm
Hope we don’t see much more of that Jeffrey.
*first-pitch swinging* Mixxo
Hopefully soon we just don’t see much of Jeff period – that will get us around watching his first-pitch-swinging tendencies.
May 24th, 20092:56 pm
The Caps Lock key is not cruise control for cool you Sunday afternoon drunk.
May 24th, 20092:58 pm
There you go KJ!! Good to see him coming around even in the Leadoff spot.
Man KJ is Heating Up, but I’d Still rather have him hitting 6th
18 Wheels of Love
May 24th, 20092:59 pm
Why isn’t sending Frenchy to AAA an option? Bowman talked about possibly releasing him if he doesn’t improve. Why take it that far without sending him to AAA for a while? Especially if we don’t trade him.
I thought Sunday alcohol sales are still illegal in Georgia! What is with this drunk and his caps lock key????
Rob from SC
Does anyone see improvement wuth Schafer. I realize his strikeout rate is down, but he isn’t really hitting the ball hard. I was just wondering what other people think.
May 24th, 20093:00 pm
Again, KJ’s entered his unbelievably good streak.
ANd KJ being hot is great but just remember he always cools off…and usually as extreme as his hot streaks.
May 24th, 20093:01 pm
We are soo slow. Did kelly trip? he was out by a mile.
Damn Was that A Botched Hit and Run or What…KJ Looked like “Willie Mayes Hayes Sliding at Second…when the infielder told him to come on”
KJ was out by a Mile
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
