Is there any way we can petition PTV to replace Chip Caray with Mark Fein? If announcing was pitching, it’s like Bob Wickman vs. Johan Santana here…
There he goes, Jeff swinging at the first pitch again.
Wait a minute.
May 23rd, 20098:14 pm
Bravesphanatic, no he wouldn’t “lose a year,” not necessarily. Not unless he stayed up the rest of the season, in which case he’d probably be a Super Two arb-eligible guy after the 2011 season.
If he comes up, makes a start or two and goes back down, then only the time up goes on his service time. Once he goes back down to minors, if he went back, he wouldn’t accumulate more service time until he was brought back up to majors.
It may be time to sit Schafer or send him down he looks clueless out there.
I’m in Lawrenceville now and it looks like it’s about to pour
I like that Hernandez showed some patience, more patience than Schafer. You’d think he’d be anxious and up there hacking, but he was clam.
May 23rd, 20098:15 pm
Sweet Lowe 2 for 2 lol
There We Go D-Lo….! Hee-Haw…!
D Lowe helping himself out there..nice!
There’s our cleanup hitter
A couple hits already for Lowe.
Derek Lowe for our new claenup hitter!
D-Lowe hitting it where they ain’t
Lowe’s gonna win this game by himself! Come on rain!
D. Lowe puts himself ahead with an RBI single through the right side.
Get the outs in the top of the fifth and you’ve got a possible win if the rains come.
this game is about to be rained out…. we need to 3 quick outs in the top of the fifth or we could be playing a double header tomorrow. the radar looks nasty. once it starts raining its not quiting for a while….
May 23rd, 20098:16 pm
Half Man, Half Amazing. Derek Lowe.
Is there a more automatic out in baseball than Jordan Schafer? I think not.
D. Lowe – professional hitter!
"Chef" Tim Dix
AndyC- Hanson’s NOT going to be a fifth starter, they want him pitching every fifth day. A card will have to be played or heaven help us injury to starting four to break into rotation.
May 23rd, 20098:17 pm
LOWE! KJ may be streaky, but he’s a smart ballplayer and he showed it by swinging early considering rain coming.
May 23rd, 20098:18 pm
DOB: Wow, a Fick reference the the beginning of the last blog! I thought I’d seen the last juxtaposition of “Fick” and “baseball” ever. Wonder what he’s doing now? I’ve google a couple of times and nothing new comes up.
Fear the Fick? Not even a slight tremble from anyone these days.
Lowe reminds me of old days with Phil Niekro doing the pitching and getting the big hits in the same game.
May 23rd, 20098:19 pm
If the sky opens up while the Braves are batting in the 5th and they still have the league, is it still considered an official game? It hasn’t been 5 full innings, but it’s not 9 full innings when the home team is ahead in regular games.
Coach (2010 or Bust)
I voted for Mark Redman
LOL with TNBrian
May 23rd, 20098:20 pm
Is there a more automatic out in baseball than Schafer? I think not.
if the braves are leading after the top half of the 5th it’s an offical game
Mark in PA
…and they do in fact finish the fourth inning. Maybe I am a weatherman!
Per the radio call, they must only get through the top half of the fifth for an official game. That was a very important RBI by D. Lowe, indeed!
Dang Lidge blew another save today.
May 23rd, 20098:21 pm
Thanks cabraves…your wording was a lot better and easier than mine.
May 23rd, 20098:22 pm
D. Lowe…2000 career innings pitched.
2 outs in the 5th.
Chef Tim, If Glavine doesn’t make it as the 5th starter then who gets the job if not Hanson? Medlen? I don’t think so.
May 23rd, 20098:23 pm
what happened to the game?
Prado is making some fine defensive plays
Come on Lowe, get the 3rd (with the lead ~_~ ) out to make it an official game
Come Lowe! One more out!
May 23rd, 20098:24 pm
There we go. Official game now
i have direct tv and they went to commercial and havent come back…..its damn infomercial. anyone else getting this crap?? channel 651?
it’s an official game
Rain can come now ~_~
May 23rd, 20098:26 pm
Blake seems like a good guy for giving away shoes, but I would like to pop him if I see that commercial again lol.
I’m 40 minutes west of atl and the satelite just went out. If you get what i mean
funny thing is i dont remember there being any commercials on this channel….just changed the channel and changed it back and it appears to be fixed. so was it 3 up and 3 down?
We could always go back to Jorge Campillo for a fifth starter. He did o.k. for a stretch last year.
bravesphanatic – I have the game on dtv right now..
May 23rd, 20098:27 pm
I’d rather the rain not come because Lowe wouldn’t be pitching after the game resumes. Keep it outta the bullpen’s hands.
May 23rd, 20098:28 pm
Would they really call a 3-2 game in the 5th? I’d be pretty pissed if I was the Blue Jays.
I have dirctv too with peachtree on 651 and all is good
I like that GA has 2Pacs “California” as his batting song…that song is tight…and he gets a hit as I’m typing this
Yanks beat Phillies. One of the few weekends I pull for the Yankees.
May 23rd, 20098:29 pm
Dang its raining keep me posted.
May 23rd, 20098:30 pm
Are the same people who are whining because some have “jumped the gun” on Frenchy after last season the same people who have allowed Loaf 20 games and decided he’s a bust? Just wondering..
Dark, ominous clouds moving over us quickly. Looks pretty cool, actually.
JD, 8:19 pm, “Question -If the sky opens up while the Braves are batting in the 5th and they still have the league, is it still considered an official game?”
If the home team is ahead in the bottom of the inning after the fourth, and the game is called, the home team wins.
If the away team takes the lead in the top of the inning and the game is called before the home team completes the bottom of the inning, then the game reverts to the last completed inning. If that inning is the fourth, then the game is not official.
So, if the Braves go through the bottom of the fifth and then, in the top of the sixth, the Blue Jays score 100 runs, and the game gets called before the bottom of the sixth can be completed, the Braves would still win the game.
May 23rd, 20098:32 pm
Dish Network and their no Peachtree sux, y’all.
May 23rd, 20098:34 pm
Hernandez looks pretty comfortable at short.
Diory’s SS defense has been solid tonight, better than I expected.
May 23rd, 20098:36 pm
I really don’t like those flat billed caps that Medlen and Schafer wear. I think it looks kinda stupid.
Glavine getting creamed in the third
Glavine isn’t exactly dominating in Gwinnett. He just gave up a walk, triple, and home run.
I don’t know whether anyone mentioned it but Kenshin’s great performance last night came after having 5 days of rest between his last two starts. It might have felt like being in a six man rotation.
May 23rd, 20098:38 pm
Glavine is getting roughed up a little now. 3 earned runs in 2 and a third.
I love good pitching. Makes the game so much more enjoyable to watch…at least for your team. Lowe cruises through the sixth.
Glavine had a couple of good innings, but has now given up almost a full cycle in the 3rd. A walk, a triple, a bomb of a home run, a single, and a stolen base so far for the Mud Hens in the 3rd. 3 runs allowed, still only 1 out. On a positive note, no visible sign of pain or discomfort.
May 23rd, 20098:39 pm
Awesome, I come back to see us winning. But what is amazing is that I pitcher appears to be the best bat so far. Atleast Frenchy is hitting also, maybe its opposites night or something.
Speaking of oddities, who is the commentator tonight on PTV, I don’t recognize the voice?
May 23rd, 20098:40 pm
Hey if we keep hurrying we may get this game in.
May 23rd, 20098:41 pm

“You Can’t Stop The Reign” By Shaq And The Notorious B.I.G. ( R.I.P Biggie) Needs To Be the Song of the Night…Its a Very Chillax Old School Jam with a dope Beat and IT Needs To Pour NOW!
May 23rd, 20098:43 pm
Monday is gonna be rough for the team with that long flight straight after tomorrow’s game followed by the day game Monday.
We Got Rain Down Here On the SouthSide, Near Stockbridge. So that Rain is on Deck for Turner Field…
Schafer flies out to end the sixth leaving that dangerous hitting threat, Derrick Lowe, in the on-deck circle.
We are just flying along, tonight.
May 23rd, 20098:44 pm
Looks like another tough day
May 23rd, 20098:47 pm
Bowman and Law analysis is panic imo.
Panic? Are you f-ing serious? The “panic” is the people declaring he’s back because he is 2-3 tonight. Law has rightfully said Francoeur sucks from the beginning.
This is a guy who’s been making outs and been the worst everyday corner outfielder for years.
Enough with the out machine.
May 23rd, 20098:48 pm
They just showed some of Glavine pitching tonight at Gwinnett on the video board here. He gave up three runs and five hits in three innings so far, don’t know yet if he’s out of game. we’ve got someone there covering.
May 23rd, 20098:49 pm
2 outs in the top of the seventh. Janssen is out of the game. He pitched a pretty good game.
Inglett (whom KK struck out to end his work) comes to the plate.
Schafer has only struckout 7 times in the last 10 games. That’s an improvement right? As long as he puts that ball in play the hits will come.
May 23rd, 20098:50 pm
Nice 1 2 3 inning. Hopefully can get the game in and over with.
does Bobby pinch hit for DLowe here?
May 23rd, 20098:51 pm
Still watching the radar, with the center “pipper” right over Turner Field- it’s like the solid wall of thunderstorms (from Athens to Gadsden, AL) is parting right exactly over the field. Weird.
Diory definitely does not have Esco’s range.
May 23rd, 20098:52 pm
I would leave him out there. He is only at 85 pitches and he has 2 hits!
Did DOB predict a rainout tonight? I’m going back to look…
May 23rd, 20098:53 pm
BJ Ryan in ~_~
I take it Escobar’s English is improving.
Baseball is a funny game. And batting average sucks.
Schafer was 29-for-135 coming into tonight, for a .215 batting average. But his 25 walks brings his OBP up to a respectable .335 mark…league average and perfectly fine for a rookie center fielder playing good defense and hitting eighth.
Replace ten of Schafer’s walks with singles. He’d be 39-for-135 with 15 walks…for the exact same OBP of .335.
But because his batting average would then be .289, most people here then would like him and say he was doing good even though he’d really being doing exactly the same.
B. J. Ryan on for the Jays.
Lowe leads off the inning, so he will (presumably) go out to pitch the eighth. He’s thrown 94 pitches so far.
SoFL Brave (the artist formerly known as Section 412)
May 23rd, 20098:54 pm
DOB – Glavine out after 3. Down 3 – 2 after Barton (the rocket scientist) makes a great catch in the top of the 3rd and hits a 2 run homer in the bottom.
Ryan is jamming Lowe. Lowe’s fouled 2 balls off the umpire. Hope the guys doesn’t take it personally.
May 23rd, 20098:55 pm
Lowe fouls out to first base. Overbay digs the ball out of the Braves dug-out.
While I agree that people look too much at BA and too little at OBP, the singles could be more valuable than walks since they are more likely to drive in runs.
Glavine for Gwinnett, line is in: 3 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 homer allowed. 56 pitches, 33 strikes.
May 23rd, 20098:56 pm
Holy cow.they finally got Lowe out.
Kelly Johnson off of B.J. Ryan!
KJ! There’s your insurance! Home run to right field.
Hell to the YEAH KJJJJJJJJJ
Gotta get to the club to start working, hope the Braves keep this up. It’s a good time for them to make a move.
And there goes KJ right on cue. Yeah Baby !!!
Go Bravos !!
Nice insurance run right there.
