Bravesphanatic, no he wouldn’t “lose a year,” not necessarily. Not unless he stayed up the rest of the season, in which case he’d probably be a Super Two arb-eligible guy after the 2011 season.
If he comes up, makes a start or two and goes back down, then only the time up goes on his service time. Once he goes back down to minors, if he went back, he wouldn’t accumulate more service time until he was brought back up to majors.

DOB: Wow, a Fick reference the the beginning of the last blog! I thought I’d seen the last juxtaposition of “Fick” and “baseball” ever. Wonder what he’s doing now? I’ve google a couple of times and nothing new comes up.

Question –
If the sky opens up while the Braves are batting in the 5th and they still have the league, is it still considered an official game? It hasn’t been 5 full innings, but it’s not 9 full innings when the home team is ahead in regular games.

If the home team is ahead in the bottom of the inning after the fourth, and the game is called, the home team wins.
If the away team takes the lead in the top of the inning and the game is called before the home team completes the bottom of the inning, then the game reverts to the last completed inning. If that inning is the fourth, then the game is not official.
So, if the Braves go through the bottom of the fifth and then, in the top of the sixth, the Blue Jays score 100 runs, and the game gets called before the bottom of the sixth can be completed, the Braves would still win the game.

Glavine isn’t exactly dominating in Gwinnett. He just gave up a walk, triple, and home run.
I don’t know whether anyone mentioned it but Kenshin’s great performance last night came after having 5 days of rest between his last two starts. It might have felt like being in a six man rotation.

Glavine had a couple of good innings, but has now given up almost a full cycle in the 3rd. A walk, a triple, a bomb of a home run, a single, and a stolen base so far for the Mud Hens in the 3rd. 3 runs allowed, still only 1 out. On a positive note, no visible sign of pain or discomfort.

Awesome, I come back to see us winning. But what is amazing is that I pitcher appears to be the best bat so far. Atleast Frenchy is hitting also, maybe its opposites night or something.
Speaking of oddities, who is the commentator tonight on PTV, I don’t recognize the voice?

Panic? Are you f-ing serious? The “panic” is the people declaring he’s back because he is 2-3 tonight. Law has rightfully said Francoeur sucks from the beginning.
This is a guy who’s been making outs and been the worst everyday corner outfielder for years.

They just showed some of Glavine pitching tonight at Gwinnett on the video board here. He gave up three runs and five hits in three innings so far, don’t know yet if he’s out of game. we’ve got someone there covering.

Baseball is a funny game. And batting average sucks.
Schafer was 29-for-135 coming into tonight, for a .215 batting average. But his 25 walks brings his OBP up to a respectable .335 mark…league average and perfectly fine for a rookie center fielder playing good defense and hitting eighth.
Replace ten of Schafer’s walks with singles. He’d be 39-for-135 with 15 walks…for the exact same OBP of .335.
But because his batting average would then be .289, most people here then would like him and say he was doing good even though he’d really being doing exactly the same.
