2nd, why the heck is Smoltzie’s personal life any of our darn business??? He’s not a Brave anymore, and his personal life is his own. Doesn’t affect us, so why the devil should we be discussing it?

Oh come on now — the Bible is not clear about anything. YOU may be clear as to what YOU think it means, but there are thousands of other people, thinking just as clearly that it means a thousand other different things.

And this is not the venue for theological discussions — we’re not here to discuss the ten thousand possible interpretations of the Bible. We’re here to talk about baseball (etc). Please tell me how what Smoltz may or may not believe, and how faithfully he may or may not adhere to his beliefs, affects baseball.

As KC might say, this is not a blog for All Things Great and Smoltz, from his baseball to his “religiosity”, from his socks to his breakfast cereal. It’s a blog for all things Baseball, which does not including judging players’ by their various denominations.

“Get over myself” — yeah, sure, right after I get over all the mouthbreathers who want to turn the blog into a pulpit.

“You might think you have so much credibility” — I’ve got no idea where this is coming from. One’s credibility is judged by others, not by one’s self.

(Unless you mean that I credulously believe everything that I myself say, which IS true (mostly), but kinda meaningless. Don’t we all?)

As far as Smoltzy’s divorce goes, not one of us knows the circumstances surrounding his divorce, maybe his wife left him…we don’t know. And regardless of what happened it’s none of our business if it falls in line with his religious beliefs or not. That’s for John to worry about, not any of you. Chipper’s private life and subsequent divorce were front and center of this paper for several days when it happened (IMO that was in very poor taste but oh well) so we knew all the details about that but the details of the Smoltz’s divorce weren’t made public here or anywhere else as far as I know and for you, “concerned fan” to suggest that he was having an adulterous affair is just….tacky.

remember, you have to stand for something in the first place to be a hypocrite.

smoltz is outspoken about everything. why would his faith be any different? and, he still has to live his life, and there will be pit falls. it happens.

And I’ll throw in my nickel here until someone tells me to shut up…outside of infidelity, the Bible says that divorce is wrong. Bible also says that we’re all broken and gonna screw up at some point, which is why grace is grace.
