“I couldnt stand Skip either.” Eric from MO

Well, you pretty much just summed up how serious I need to take your opinion. Any Braves fan that didn’t like Skip, really isn’t a Braves fan.

On a side note, if the question is who are our backup CF’s and the answer includes the names Diaz, Franceour (best options), Prado and KJ, then this team is in serious defensive trouble if Schafer goes down.

So let me get this straight. Management didn’t want guys like Abreu or Dunn in LF because their defense was weak, yet Cox is willing to have THOSE four guys be the backup CF while Infante is out? Wow.

I think we get an idea of why Medlin got sent down in the first place. It would be nice if the bullpen could stop the Rockies dead in their tracks because with all the offense the last couple of days, we could be at the cusp of a .500 homestand against two really crappy teams.

Braves Paisan

Pauling Paul — of course we can’t see into the future, but we can analyze data and draw inferences about what it might be. It’s been what, over 40 years, since pitchers have been expected to finish games they pitch. Situational relievers and closers have been the unanimous approach of every team for a long time now. Especially given the value of preserving the arms of starting pitchers, the best arms on the team.

That said, what would it take for the game to change — to regress so much that a pitcher would throw 749 complete games?

Seriously think about this a second, if Schafer goes down you will need these guys to covor CF for only a couple of innings, 9 tops. The very next day they would call someone up if Schafer is in doubt.

Eric, my point is that I would think that finding a backup CF would be more important than a backup infielder at this point. Why would it only be a couple of innings? What if Schafer gets hurt in the first inning of a game?

For a team that isn’t gonna run away with this division (or the wild card race), every game counts. I would had to lose a game somewhere down the road because we had no viable option to catch the ball in CF. Say what you want about Schafer’s hitting ability, but his defense has been above average.

I think Francoeur is the best option.

By your theory, there isn’t much reason to carry a backup catcher. If McCann went down just call somebody up the next day. After all Diaz is the backup catcher anyhow, right?
