Changing a triple A lineup will not win games. You guys are fooling yourselves if you think the present team can win. The only reason that the Braves are still in the race is because the Mets and Phillies are just as bad. The whole division has no exciting players outside of Rollins and Howard and they are not playing well. Boring team and boring division.

DOWN ON THE FARM:

A couple of PELICAN hurlers besides LOCKE and ROHRBOUGH have caught my eye.

EDGAR ORSUNA is slowly beginning to put up some good numbers. The 21 year-old MEXICAN lefty has started eight games and holds one complete game to his credit. An ERA of 3.54 and a 1.13 WHIP in 40.2 IP. This is a solid sample of his abilities. 38 H, 16 R all earned, 1 HR allowed, 4 HB. 8 BB, 32 SO for a a nice ratio of 1 BB to 4 SO. In April, he went 4.01 ERA in five starts. In May, that improved to 2.81 in three. He's 2.70 (13.1 IP)against left-handed hitters and 3.95 against right-handers (27.1 IP). Excellent in seven night contests with a sweet 2.95 ERA. His only day start, not good, 9.00. Home, 4.40 ERA in three starts and 3.08 in five away games. Excellent BB/SO ratio however both home and away. Gets the collar as most young pitchers do when the chips are down. 0.92 with the bases empty, but 7.85 ERA with 1.05 GO/AO when men are on. Jumps to 9.26 with runners in scoring position and his ratio of BB/SO drops to 1 BB-2 SO (5-10). He looks to be improving, and might be a factor in a few more minor league seasons. Keep an eye on his results.

CORY GEARRIN:

23 year-old righty reliefer has been in 10 games with 1 hold and 7 saves having finished eight games for the PELICANS. Pretty strong record. 0.75 ERA with a miniscule WHIP of 0.58. He's thrown only 12.0 innings of course as a reliefer, but has allowed only six hits, and one ER. That was a homer, however. 1 BB and 14 SO's - yeah!!!! He's averaging better than a SO an inning. Excellent at home/on the road, or vs. righty/lefty hitters and day or night. It's all good. Now that's relief. But with only one IP in May, I wonder if he's had a call-up, or been shelved for some reason. Anybody got anything on that? And don't lose sight of the fact that this is high "A" competition not ML opposition.

TOM O'HAWKE:

FLASH. Since we last corresponded, CODY JOHNSON has had eight more AB's with another HR (13 total), zero additional walks and five, that's five, added SO's in 134 AB's so far this season for a grand total of 55. 55 SO's in 134 AB's. He may yet set a record. One HR every 10 AB's, one walk every nine AB's(roughly) and 4.2 SO's per 10 AB's. He strikes out roughly 42% of the time and hits a homer roughly 10% of the time. Somebody check my math. I'm serious, that can't be correct. WHEW!!!!

...Just tell me you don’t sound like a NYC boy and we’ll forgive the accent…
Good morning, cabravesfan. I answered this last night, but due to technical difficulties, I was the only one able to read it. No, us "Upstaters" don't have much of an accent to speak of. Definitely not "NYC boy" (no offense, Anders). Nothing strange or abnormal about me. Well, on the third Monday of every month, I dream in Latin. Some may find that a little bit strange.

Good afternoon, McFann. I hope you're feeling a little better today. Funny post about Beltran @ 10:58. :P

CB--
I don't know if anyone answered your question from this morning, about Cody Johnson. richbrave and I were discussing him a few days ago. He does well when he makes contact. But, making contact is his problem. As of Monday, he had struck out 50 times in 126 AB's.

Piedmont Blues - I agree with you that something needs to be done about Jeff's swing. I've never advocated he shouldn't be held responsible for his production. My only point was that when we as fans examine and criticize his reaction to things like being sent down then we need to remember the full story. If TP can't help him with his swing up here or if he's being stubborn about listening then I agree that sending him down is the right approach.

Time to Get Rid of MFin04 (1:25 pm ff): "I give up with the Esco hits into double plays, because everyone on this team is a double play machine if they hit it on the ground with someone on first . . ."

There is a scant handful of players in the NL of whom that is not true.

"When you think about it . . . Maybe this is sheer stupidity."

Truer words were never spoken, genius.

Maybe Blog Ref should’ve added Dunn to his list as well…lol!

Right you are kirkinga!

It is perfectly within the boundaries of vent and blame to constantly bring up The Savior..no no, not the guy on the cross, but the guys on the approved vent and blame list: Dunn,Dye,Freel,Nady, Swisher..anyone that there is a 0-5% of becoming a Braves will do and any kid still in the minor leagues is absolutely allowed to be anointed Of course if you go the minor league route you must be a Certified Tosser, no not of salads, but of the young player you once hyped as the answer. This is the tradition here at the Braves/MIB blog. Jeff Francouer, Kelly Johnson, Blaine Boyer, Jordan Scahafer, Kyle Davies, JoJo Reyes, Charlie Morton,Brandon Jones, et al. were all once claimed to be the answer, only to be abandoned and tossed under the bus at first sign of struggle. Remember also this rule applies for as long as the once-prospect remains on the major league roster. So if the player plays well for two goos years, but has one bad one, you may toss him at your convenience (see: Francouer, Jeff).
