I also don’t see why it’s unfathomable to bat Ross 4th when he plays…I mean he has as many homers as Jeff and Kelly and when was the last time he played.
Rock On — No one answered my question on page 2. I’m really curious to know if that counts as 2 PH at bats. I’m thinking not since the pitcher couldn’t hit the 2nd time around so so how could it considered a PH at bat?
As you may recall, looking at my post, I never promised to proof what I wrote, just that is serves me right that I made a mistake because I didn’t proof it…if I had promised to proof it, I (probably) would have and then I would not have made the 2nd mistake in the first place! (did you get all that?)
Would the national audience consider us the most boring team to watch? Teams like BAL and KC at least have players to watch now…our offense is pathetic!
Where’d was that audio of my boy (George Brett) calling out the media in K.C. for trashing Trey Hillman?
I’ve watch some of the TV news sportscasters from the K.C. market also trashing Hillman and some of his moves.
The Royals are headed in the right direction under Dayton Moore. They’re playing some good ball for the first time in a long damn time….and it’s actually been nice to see them win a game here…..win a game there.
I said this before….the Royals are playing this season like the Braves SHOULD be playing.
Trade Francuer? you would have to pay someone to take him. trade Francuer , Shafer and Norton for a dozen used base balls. at least you would have the balls and save on meal money. If Shafer is a 5 tool player. it would be in Tee ball. What a JOKE
How much of the game is mental, and how much of it affects our hitters? This about Michael Bourn.:
Bourn attributes his success thus far this season to improved mental discipline, the Houston Chronicle reports. “I can’t really explain it to you, but it was in my mind,” Bourn said. “[This season] I don’t really try to look past this game; I don’t dwell on the game before.”
Last night was hard to watch. Lowe pitched a good game. to good to lose. The Braves just didn’t look like a MLB team offensively. KJ, don’t know what to say. If his career is screwed up, it’s all on BC for continuously running him out as the leadoff hitter. Francouer is a spoiled A$$ rich boy who always got by on looks and talent. He ought to take a page out of his boy McCann’s book on how to be a competent MLB player. Learn what a freaking work ethic is all about.
Poor attendance has nothing to do with the attitude of the players. This team play unbelievably boring baseball.
No power + no speed = boring/unexciting product
People aren’t stupid. We get down by 2 runs the game is over. We need 3 hits in an inning to score and sometimes that’s not even enough thanks to shoddy baserunning.
I am sure it has been said, but frenchy can’t hit because he has zero pitch recognition skills. It does not matter if he opens his stance, can see the ball out of the pitchers hand with both eyes, keeps himself from flying open, and keeps his swing flatter through the strike zone. it doesn’t matter, because he has no idea what he is looking at.
All of those adjustments can make him look better in spring training and now in batting practice. In the game, they can help him hit a flat fastball in the middle of the strike zone or a hanging breaking ball harder. But major league pitchers know what is going on. And if you can recognize a slider with any amount of late break, that is all you will see close to thr strike zone. Check back in June or July or 2010… that will not change.
Ch4C…only counts as one pinch hit at bat as from then on out he is in the lineup unless removed for pinch hitter/pinch runner. Can’t have two pinch hit at bats in the same game regardless of whether or not it is the same inning.
No Way! The fact of the Matter is that all the people who were on here after the first week have left…As for the veterans of this blog we remain live and go all out weather the team wins or loses (Or at least I’m speaking for myself)…
The fault that I have with tonight’s lineup is there are still some people in it that should be on the bench!
That being said, if the personnel on the lineup card are who will be playing,(obviously they are) I like this batting order much better than the one Cox has been running out there.
Still a shame the best leadoff hitter is sitting though.
“Poor attendance has nothing to do with the attitude of the players. This team play unbelievably boring baseball.

I will Co-Sign To that post…You have been on Point today as regarding the Braves play boring baseball at home
Let me further clarify…I omitted the fact that he could bat twice in the same inning without actually playing the field but can only PH once. After he is announced he is in the lineup and can obviously continue defensively or not. Happens in double switches a lot.
cabravesfan – hope all is well – I did encounter a very minor earthquake out there 12 years ago – it took a few minutes to decipher what was happening. And I understood that there was no promise in your earlier post, but there was still some humor there as I read it.
Hmm…at least Bobby is trying to tweak the lineup. Not a fan of Escobar at leadoff – that experiment didn’t work last year, we’ll see. I’ll reserve judgment on int until after the game. Basically, if they win tonight and look sharp doing so it’s the best lineup ever! Bobby’s a genius! If the lose and/or look flat, Worst lineup ever! Bobby’s an idiot!
No More DPS tonight….! I’m gonna lose my mind if we hit into more than 2 tonight
Oh No Jason Hammel Starting for the Rockies…Have We faced him before…? If Not Then I might take back what I said earlier about the offense breaking out of it since Bobby C. Changed the lineup…
Not sure if there is a link on the sight to listen to it. But I listen to that station all day (until later in the day when Buck and Kincade come on), and they’ve been playing soundbites from it all day, and at 2:00 played it in it’s entirety. I think it’s from yesterday. Because they followed that up with a clip of him apologizing to the media guys he called out.
Please sit Francoeur. Does nobody else out there think he needs to sit? He cost us big-time last night with the nonchalance on a sharply hit single by allowing the runner on first to decoy him and go to third. Not only with his bat but he is hurting us with his defense. No excuse for that; you may have bad days at the plate but you can always bring the hustle! His swing and plate discipline is terrible.
Anderson is a bust. His defense is nonexistent.
Kelly has never been consistent. Whatever.
Schafer can be given a pass for now with his defense and his slight trend in a positive direction. Give him a chance. At least the kid appears to be hustling.
Tomahawkin, JJ is pitching. ATL sure ain’t going to score no runs for him. Another one who has pitched lights out with nothing to show for it. Well at least they score like 10 runs a game for Lowe on the road.
Hey I don’t know is this contributes to low attendance rates now…..cause the team hasn’t been good regardless. BUT 2 yrs ago didn’t the games start an hour later…or 30 minutes later than they do now?
In 346 career plate appearances in the lineup’s first spot, Escobar has hit .317 with a .378 on-base percentage. In the 72 plate appearances he’s recorded while serving as the game’s first hitter, the Cuban shortstop has .429 with a .444 on-base percentage.
Just saw the lineup and not sure what you people are excited about. KJ and Francouer are in the game and batting back to back. Both Infante and Prado are relegated to Carroll status. In other words—part time bench players. Cox is “and idiot”. Grab a beer….let’s see how this one unfolds. Head bashing against the wall, again and again and again.
Used to ride over to a friend’s house in Rockmart every weekend during Summer. By used to, I mean 25-years ago. Played wiffle ball pretty much all day Sat and Sun.
I know it’s MUCH lighter than a baseball, but the arm motion is exactly the same. I’d estimate we each pitched between 40-60 innings on a given weekend, sometimes in the rain. We’d do that ALL summer long. Our arms would be killing us, but it was so much fun we’d do it anyway.
After around 300-pitches and a 12-pack of beer, our arms would be loose as a goose and pain free. We’d go till it was too dark to see. Why didn’t somebody else pitch at times? Cause WE were the only players! Our catchers were the backdoor steps. lol
I read Neyer’s story, and he’s right. Francoeur hasn’t really been what the Braves envisioned, outside of those three “magical months” in 2005.
And ever since last summer, I’ve heard these constant rumors of Frenchy going to KC, and now more scuttlebutt today. Who would we get in return? KC is looking for offense right now. Frenchy doesn’t quite fit that bill.
The only scenario I could envision would be if KC traded David DeJesus straight up for Frenchy, as it would be a case of one slumping player being traded for another. Their salaries are similar (forget getting Jose Guillen for this reason), and the trade would be made in hopes that a change of scenery would benefit both players. But DeJesus isn’t the big bat the Braves need, even though his career OBP is far better than Jeff’s. I wouldn’t be looking for Frenchy to KC anytime soon…..
“Basically, if they win tonight and look sharp doing so it’s the best lineup ever! Bobby’s a genius! If the lose and/or look flat, Worst lineup ever! Bobby’s an idiot!”
I don’t base my judgment on a per game basis. I wasn’t sold even after the road trip. The offense just wasn’t even consistent on the road. The Braves have had a run of terrible luck but they had some good luck on the road.
I don’t care if the Braves score 12 tonight, they are going to have to convince me because usually after the score double digits, they only score 6 over the next week!
BTW…..Yunel did a great job leading off huh? One pitch? Geez! Whats up with these guys? Do ANY of them have a baseball IQ over 60?
tell me Cox wasn’t on the blog last night. here’s what he said when I asked him about the lineup shuffle: “Switch it up a little,” Cox said. “The last few days we haven’t done much, why not?”
Of the move with Johnson, who started 0-for-8 this homestand, is hitting .225 on the season and has been platooning with Omar Infante.
“Maybe this will help him,” Cox said. “We’ll get Infante in tomorrow and get other guys in too like (Martin) Prado.”
I gotta say, my notes today were on the softer side…..maybe it was all the hard core lineup blogging i’ve been doing the last 24 hours. but especially the ladies should check them out. Guess they’ll be posted before long
I like that Bobby has shaken up the lineup. Something needs to be done. Let’s see if KJ has a good night at the bottom of the lineup. It really says something about Frenchy when he is hitting lower in the order than KJ.
Is it just me or does Garret Anderson seem disinterested. I’m sure he isn’t but that just means his skills have all but gone away… There are many holes in the offense and he is one. At least in the 4 spot he is. His defense is at least below average. He reminds me of an ex-catcher trying to learn the outfield…and NO, not like Dale Murphy. More in the line of Jody Davis… Hopefully he’s just a sloew starter or still trying to get up to speed from starting the year late…. Someone say something good about him for me…please. Besides ,”He seems like a nice guy”.
Shamus…sounds like you are a good baseball man and know your stuff. You are correct sir about MLB pitchers. They are coddled to death and can’t answer an inning after 100 pitches. Especially if they are playing for some manager named Cox.
there’s a run, hey it’s not that hard….and bmac trying to take it a little too far, but can’t fault the aggression too much the way things have gone lately for the offense. dig in and get dirty, i say
There We Go B-Macc, But You Know Damn Well that You couldn’t turn that into a double…Another Baserunning Blunder that might mean the difference in the game…
Carroll, would you mind asking FW if anything is up with Freddie Freeman if you get the chance? He was pulled from a game several days ago and hasn’t played since. Thanks!

Do ANY of them have a baseball IQ over 60?

hey, an extra-base hit…..
tell me Cox wasn’t on the blog last night. here’s what he said when I asked him about the lineup shuffle: “Switch it up a little,” Cox said.

Besides ,”He seems like a nice guy”.

when the Braves screw up with Chip, it’s always the greatness of the other team and never the suckness of the Braves.

Shamus…sounds like you are a good baseball man and know your stuff. You are correct sir about MLB pitchers. They are coddled to death and can’t answer an inning after 100 pitches. Especially if they are playing for some manager named Cox.

Who is the dude in the Braves’ dugout (wearing the red shirt tonight), with the bald head and the eyebrows?
He looks like Ray’s brother from “Everybody loves Raymond”.
He seems to have replaced Chino Cadahia as the “goofy looking guy that the cameraman finds too much”

Perhaps I’ve hit my quota for the day on slamming Bobby, and the AJC “governor” kicked in?
